Interesting method of tying the Bibio. Here in Ireland we use a different tying method and I would have to recommend it over your method as it makes a stronger fly and is more toward better practice for someone learning from scratch. Basically tie in rib then dub on the body now tie in hackle feather by the wide end. Wind the hackle down the body and when you get to the end secure it with the ribbing material. Take a turn around the feather and with the rib still tight wind up the body creating the rib while locking in the hackle on place. Good practice for doing neater ties when going smaller.
I'm not really interested in fly fishing but I really enjoy watching these videos. Thing of beauty.
Simon Hopkins agree
Yeah, it's very relaxing just watching this almost like meditation.
I could watch these vids for hours. love to watch rob work. would love to see a video on how to get started fly tying such as gear needed for a beginner, starter flies maybe even a series building up to a More advanced fly bait like how mike was trained to fly fish.
Love any videos with rob, he is such a jolly likeable character and clearly enjoys what he does for a living. As always by far the best fishing channel on RUclips and I honestly believe they could run your vids on tv and they would not be out of place....good stuff guys
I love fly tying great video keep the good work up
Nice making, great article on awsome angler magazine also 👌
Nice tie, Rob!
Cracking fly for the wild trout in Scotland.
Thanks,for good and interesting video.
Hey guys loving the fact more fly fishing videos appearing aswell as tying vids was wondering if any of you have used wotsits/mitten flies to catch trout it seems to be this year's thing have no idea how to fish them though static or moving etc was wondering if you have any tips?
thanks Rob
Yes an extremely effective fly on the bog lakes of the west of Ireland I shall tie a few this evening your version
I'm a total beginner to tying flies. can you advise on where to get the materials for basic trout flies such as the bibio
Check on the internet or better still get in touch with a fishing club that has a fly fishing section,I am sure someone will be pleased to assist you.
do you make flies for pike fishing if so could you show how to make them
cheers Ian
I've only tried fly fishing once low tide at an estrey with my grandad
What does the wax on the thread do?
makes the dubbing stick to the thread better so it doesn't slide off when turning it around the hook
How do you fish this? Dead drift, or strip it like a wet fly?
Generally slow.On the drift,or watching the line tighten from the take.
Thanks. I'll tie some of these up. They look like real winners. If I have good luck with them, I'll introduce them to our fly fishing club at the next meeting.
