Thought you might like to hear, galactic criminal just shouted you out on his channel, yes, I watch you both religiously, he said he noticed you checked out wage war and if it was good enough for you, it was good enough for him. I loved to hear that...
Thats awesome man. Love them both, definitely my favorite reactors by far. Truant is just sych a cool chill dude and Galctic adds this.. like, funny, snarky kind of vibe in his videos. 👍
Eluveitie is one of my all time favorite bands. Glad to see you reacting to them. The name is pronounced "El-Vey-Ti". It's hard to pronounce because it's Gaulish (which is an extinct language). They sing in Gaulish sometimes, too. This song was their first without some long time members. The violinist, female singer, and hurdy gurdy (that winding crank instrument you were asking about) player, guitar player, and drummer are all new. Also, the guitar solo thing is kinda new for them. There are 9 band members. The male singer, Chrigel, writes most of the music and plays like 7 or 8 different instruments himself. They play all kinds of instruments like the hurdy gurdy, violin, harp, mandola, pipes, and more. Nothing like them. If you want more, I recommend "The Call of the Mountains" (for something more folky and less metal), "King", "Thousandfold", and "Inis Mona".
El-Ve-Ti ;) Please check out more of their stuff. -> Alesia ( Disgustingly Beautiful, slow Folk Metal) -> Inis Mona ( Most succsessful song) -> King ( The Solo will kill you! ) -> The Day Of Strife ( Heavy Shit, good for moshing) -> Gray Sublime Archon (Black/Speed/Melodic, one of my Fav.) -> The Call Of The Mountains ( Calm, Beautiful Folk Song) They mostly sing about a old group of celtic people ( Helvetier ). That´s also the language they sometimes use. A reconstructed form of "Helvetion Gallic". I think that the singer Chrigel Glanzman put´s a hell lot of time into perfectly speaking the language. Ther´s is a lot of history in this band.
One of my all-time favourite metal bands. King, The Nameless, Quoth the Raven, Thousandfold and Helveitios are some of my favourite songs from them. they are absolutely amazing live. have seen them live 5 times and met a few of the members, Anna, Ivo and Chrigel. so good
The instrument the woman was holding is called a "hurdy-gurdy," really cool sound to it. If you wanna check out the band's old line-up, check out the song "King."
Dude, pretty much anything from this band is amazing. Both Evocation albums are their folk/acoustic only offerings and they are worth listening to. I'm old so I'm partial to anything with Anna Murphy, but this new stuff is killer too.
*blank stare* "I'm not ready for this one..." Haha, classic, perfect reaction to what was to come! I'm glad you were blown away by them, they have stunned me ever since I first heard them. Hope you listen to more of them! King is my other favorite song of theirs!
I watched countless reactions to my favourite band, but yours is probably the best. I reacted the same way when I heard my first song of them 15 years ago (Tegernakô in 2006). Halfway through the song I knew I had a new favourite band. Bands like Iron Maiden, In Flames and Paradise Lost all tumbled down a rank. Keep on rockin' \m/ \m/!
@TruantReacts The instrument you are asking about; "The HURDY-GURDY is a stringed instrument that produces sound by a hand crank-turned, rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to those of a violin. Melodies are played on a keyboard that presses tangents-small wedges, typically made of wood-against one or more of the strings to change their pitch. Like most other acoustic stringed instruments, it has a sound board and hollow cavity to make the vibration of the strings audible." I've seen this band live now 3 times and they sound EXACTLY like their albums live. They are extremely intense live. They are touring England on their current tour btw.
So, yeah... that happened!! LOL. Back 40 years ago, I had the opportunity to play a song with one of the members of the Bothy Band at an open jam in Portland OR. I hate to say it, but I think I'd consider an opportunity to play with this lot to be a bit bigger feather in my cap. 6 string, baritone, mandolin, low flute... name it, I'll be there. ... and sorry you lost that beautiful smokey draw.... someone should have warned you!!
Dear Truant I have following your reaction since March.... Guy you´re amazing!!! Congratulations!!! No doubt, the best Reactions of the Net!!! Please goes on! A great hug, directly from Sao Paulo, Brazil.... Leo
Truant, bro, it is impossible to have a bad day after watching one of your videos. I've had an absolute shit day but your enthusiasm and passion for metal just totally turned my mood around. Keep doing what you do man. It's awesome. And I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the fuck out of this. Eluveitie are easily my favorite folk band around.
If no one else has said it, the 'wind up thing' is called a hurrty gurty. It has a wheel that acts like the bow of a violin when turned against the strings. Had to look it up myself mate. Cheers.
Eluveitie is probably the most stable band i know of when it comes to quality output. some of my favourites are "Inis mona", a heavy classic, "thousandfold" with as much energy you could ever ask for, "King" from the second-to-last album, "Havoc" and "A Rose for Epona". at least these are the ones with music videos.
The "wind up box" is a hurdy gurdy" and if you like this, there's a band that formed from a few members that just left this band called Cellar Darling. Check them out.
Freaking love this band!!! I miss Anna Murphy who was in this band and sang Call of the Mountains. This band still kills it. BTW you should check out Cellar Darling. Real good Folk rock band featuring 3 former Eluvieitie members. Excellent and unique band!!!!
That windly thingy is called a hurdy gurdy. Its a bit like a violine style bagpipe. As it is string instrument using a rotating "bow" to attack the strings having a few melody strings which are tapped like a piano and has a bourdon s tring for background.
El-VAY-ti is pretty much the pronounciation. :) Check out King, Inis Mona, Thousandfold, etc. :D Edit: I fucking love Eluveitie. Been listening to them for so long. If you get everything fixed with Sumerian Records, check out Born of Osiris mate!
Eluveitie is one of my favorites. They have alot of great songs, "Alesia", "Vienna", "King", literally can name all their tracks..they're all fanfuckingtastic! Love your videos and got a new sub!
In addition, every album is different, they have some albums that are completely folk/celtic like, and others have a variety between straight female vocals, straight male, and a mix.
i'm surprised how throughout the months no one has ever suggested dir en grey. make sure to check them out,at least for your own sake, they are the most unique band i've ever listened to. start from song ,,lotus'',then choose from related vids next songs, there is so many different musical styles in their opus, but one thing's for sure, they are truly artists.we don't wan't to scare you with ,,obscure'',don't we?
The crancked box instrument is a hurdy-gurdy. It's a Central European instrument that goes way back to the Middle Ages. It's a cross between a violin and a keyboard. Please react to more of their stuff if you like.
Trivium -- Triple reaction-- A gunshot to the head of trepidation, In Waves, The Sin and the Sentence Ice Nine Kills - Communion of the Cursed The Devil Wears Prada - The Key to Evergreen Miss May I -- triple reaction -- Masses of a Dying Breed, Hey Mister, Lost in the Grey Motionless in white - 570 Okay think that's enough suggestions, good day to anybody reading all if that. Cheers
Oh man, this reaction was priceless! :D I've seen Eluvitie live twice (old lineup) and at one point of their performance, they just went full on "folk-bandjam" and it was absolutely brilliant! Definetly check out more of their music, just be prepared for a different female vocal in the older songs :)
I recently asked you to check out Nevermore. Well, yesterday the vocalist passed away... So maybe it could be something for throwback thursday to pay the man some tribute! I'm still throwing "This Godless Endeavor" out there!
in a label office: - hi, we have a metal band... - nice, what do you play ? guitar ? bass ? drums ? - we play flute, mandolin, violin, hurdy gurdy and harp - wtf - and sometimes, bouzouki and bagpipe - are you serious ??? - and guitar, bass and drums, to - ???
According to the band, it's pronounced "El-Vey-Ti", it wS taken from an inscription in Mantua, in Etruscan, and it allegedly means "The Helvetian", probably in reference to a Helvetian-born immigrant to the area. The instrument you repeat is the hurdy-gurdy.
Their name is pronounced either "El-ve-tee", "El-way-tee", or "Elu-way-tee" depending on how Chrigel feels at the time. It means "(we the) helvetians", which were the Gaulish tribe that lived in Switzerland. They do a lot of work with a university in Switzerland who put together pieces of old Gaulish to try and reconstruct the language, which the band then uses in some of their songs. If you want to check some others check out King, Helvetios and Inis Mona. Love that you've delved into folk metal! Reckon we could get some melodic death metal like Children Of Bodom? Older era like Angels Don't Kill
lololol I LOVED seeing your reaction to the hurdy gurdy. This completely blew me away the first time I saw it too, I didn't know what to do with myself! My other favorite Eluveitie song is King, check it out!
I've never seen a violin and flute go so hard! Holy hell that was epic!! BUT TRUANT As a huge fan of the band ISSUES, I will continue to spam you til you react to "ISSUES - Hooligans"! \m/
I had a feeling you were gonna like this one :). BTW, with those blue eyes and tinge of red in your beard, you *have* to have some Celtic blood in you, so this should indeed have spoken to your soul. This is one of my favorite bands at this point. Their most recent album was an acoustic one, so if you're looking for stuff like this, the most recent album for that is Origins, which is kick ass from start to finish. They did have a little band drama since that album...the female singer, drummer, one of the guitarists (or both, I can never remember lol) and hurdy gurdy player in this vid are all new. You and galacticriminal are my favs, when I see you guys get into a song it enhances my listening experience so much!
Thats awesome man. Love them both, definitely my favorite reactors by far. Truant is just sych a cool chill dude and Galctic adds this.. like, funny, snarky kind of vibe in his videos. 👍
I watch them both as well, mate
Oh man, 1:59, check out Truant face when Nicole appears, it looks a bit like you've just seen a unicorn or maybe love at first sight.
That's actually Fabienne and not Nicole. The face is still priceless tho
He said I’m not ready! Lol that’s exactly how I felt when I seen them live
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Dude that might have been 😍 at first sight! Hahaha

Wait, Nicole, the violinist isn't new member. She played with them before, right? Left and then came back.
Thanks for that explanation man!
Defend The Realm: Yeah. You're right. I forgot she came back.
Chrigel is sick. Also, good song requests! \m/
I love Celtos from ELUVEITIE

-> King ( The Solo will kill you! )
-> The Day Of Strife ( Heavy Shit, good for moshing)
-> Gray Sublime Archon (Black/Speed/Melodic, one of my Fav.)

Saw them at a small venue here in Beijing a couple years ago. It was an awesome show! They are a great band!
that box is called hurdy-gurdy, it is a very ancient instrument and there's a wave to bring it back. Almost every pagan, folk, Celtic band uses it.
So, yeah... that happened!! LOL.

That windly thingy is called a hurdy gurdy. Its a bit like a violine style bagpipe. As it is string instrument using a rotating "bow" to attack the strings having a few melody strings which are tapped like a piano and has a bourdon s tring for background.

Pretty sure it's (el-oo-vey-tee) And they have the new band with the latest album (the one you covered here) and they have many older songs which consisted of a few different members. They definitely have some songs that are way more "folk" and less "metal" but they have a good mix of both most of the time.
