I needed this discussion. Love the book but jeez theres so much to take in! The fight scenes felt a bit like a Bernard Cornwell fight scene which i enjoy.

I love listening to people do spoiler chat about books. It's just a nice way to close out the book to 'discuss' the book and it's contents. So often I only find spoiler free reviews whnich is not what I'm seeking. Good chat guys..
This is awesome. I just read the book and about to pick up the second one but I wanted a recap since there is so much going on in this series, and I couldn’t find anything like you said! So thank you guys for doing this it helped a ton!
Evnis set it up so that it was just the queen and Edana in the forest. Initially, Brenin was going to be there with them but he managed to manipulate it so that Brenin was absent. Also at that point, they believed they had cleared the Darkwood of the bandits as they had gone into hiding, but they returned with support from Brin's champion.

No spoilers or anything but Kastell was setup for Maquin who's my favorite character in the series... can't wait for the next one
Maquin is awesome so far - much more interesting than Kastell
Pretty sure the girls were just on a ride around the castle when they got attacked from the forest. They wernt actually in the forest
