Ahhh sleep... the best example of "fake it until you make it!" I do try to do the deep breathing exercise to return to sleep in the middle of the night. I also find softly playing, peaceful music helps me drift off to sleep quicker. I have never been the type to lay down and fall asleep in seconds.
Thank you for not saying “be consistent in your sleep” which is impossible for people like me in shift work even though we know it’s important. These are actual tips I can use any time. 👍
Thank you so much for the tips!! It still took me about half an hour to fall asleep, but I haven’t gone to bed without looking at my phone in a long time and I’m proud of myself for trying! I also think I just slept way better in general!! I played the alphabet game with the theme of “camping” and fell asleep on P :)
I shut off thinking about anything else and slowly count backwards while deep breathing from 10 to 1 and repeat until I fall asleep. Thank you for the tips. I’ll test them to see how they work.
Late to the party but figured I'd share the one helpful tip I have for getting me to sleep that is along the lines of Georgia's Alphabet Game. I start with mentally "writing" out a story, starting with line one on page one and just let the words come as they may. Day Two, I start at the beginning of said story and rewrite the story as close as I can to what it was before, making changes only when I don't like how the story itself is going. Day Three: see Day Two. etc, etc. After a few days of me doing this, my brain gets really bored with "rewriting" and "editing" that I usually fall asleep before I get through the first paragraph. I do this kind of thing when I have bouts of insomnia and either I fall asleep quickly OR I get a new story to write down when it's daytime.
This is probably very personal, but maintaining a good sleep habits helps me avoid a lot of stress and negativity during the day. Many of my friends feel stressed a lot, we are all students and most of them have bad sleep habits. It’s probably linked.
Thanks Georgia! I am plagued with fitful sleep and waking up with checklists/to dos and worries. I tried the alphabet exercise with birthday party and got stuck on O. Being the type A that I am, I obsessed on why I couldn’t find an o word LOL. I’ll keep on trying this, though!
Yeah, meditation and reading has helped me a lot with my insomnias, that and turning off every screen one hour before sleeping. And positive thoughts are pretty helpful, I still remember when I was about to face my final match in my civil service exam and I couldn't stop thinking about all that battle stuff... The result: John Wick's action scene soundtrack in my mind until 2 am, goddamnit...
Greetings my Friend...... One thing I've found is listening to the Sounds of Falling Rain and Rivers via "Relax Melodies". By placing a speaker near my Window I fool my Mind into thinking it's actually raining outside....and it's off to Sleepyland for me. :) BTW...... You TRULY are a Treasure.
A Bluetooth Speaker is the way to go........the speaker in a phone is not. A good speaker starts around $75 and goes up to the Klipsch Soundbar for $500. Was I ...AM I worth the $500? I am. :)
No way.. If I heard this constant water sound I'd be worried water was leaking into my home or at least would wake up to goto the washroom!!! I prefer a nice mellow playlist of music....

Do you have any tips or videos about too much sleep? I sleep about 9-12 hours a night, and if I sleep less it ruins my day. My bf is worried it's a sign of a lager health issue, but my psych said with all the beds I'm on it's normal. (And if you can only read this but can't respond, thank you for your videos. I'm really excited that I found your channel!)
@@GeorgiaDow thank you for responding! I've had blood work done and besides my blood sugar everything is normal (and I've cut out sugar to help that) I don't have a lot of energy during the day, but I've always been like that (even when I slept normally) and it used to be a lot worse. I'll probably wait a little bit and make another appt with my PCP. But every doctor I've seen dismisses it once they see I'm on medication.
Huh. That word game one sounds similar in principle to my usual 'tell myself a story' method. Like, I'll make up a story about something random, like being a pokemon trainer or a getting superpowers or something. Something that my brain in no way can interpret as planning or anything like that. And then every time my brain starts to drift I force it back to the story, until my brain eventually just conks out and I sleep. This usually brings my time to get to sleep down to half an hour or so, rather than a couple of hours (yay ASD, ADHD and DSPS)
Very good tips, I really appreciate them! Some I haven't even heard from my Sleep Doctors! I will work the 12 steps to break my iPad Pro addiction and turn it off early! 1 question though: So when I'm wide away stuck on a letter and getting angry at Georgia for recommending this, would you suggest deep breathing? I think I'm too OCD for that! Hah! I will try deep breathing and a Buddhist meditation practice of just counting your breaths up to 20 and down to 1.

With two toddlers at 3 years and almost 2 years, my sleep is interrupted several times per night. I'm gonna try that breathing. It works in other situations, so why not sleep as well?

I didn't even make it half way through and you changed my back mood. I should watch you more.🙂
I use all of these techniques and it has markedly improved my sleep!!!

Your voice is really pleasantly soothing to listen to

The alphabet game worked I'm sort of dumbfounded...I've tried so many things but this was the only one that worked. Thank you!
4:00 problem solving + 6:40 math. My main problems.

Have you checked out your blood work- thyroid iron and B. Too much sleep isn’t good either . How do you feel when you wake ?

"Doing math is not sleeping." Things I shouldn't need to be told but definitely need to be told. rofl
