    This works so well for me after trying it out! You have no idea how much I have learned about myself from you and I feel like I am improving myself in so many ways. I find myself constantly telling myself "what would Georgia say" for so many situations I find myself in. You continue to be a comforting presence in my life and make me feel better about everything I am. I really can't thank you enough for what you have done, and I look forward to all your videos.

    For me it's not just a recurring thoughts, I have recurring dreams as well. They usually involve me trying to get away from someone or some situation. But I know now that running isn't the solution. I have to turn around and face my problems because no matter where I go they will still be there! I just recently started journaling but not in the way that you stated. I feel like this is going to turn things around. Thank you!

  • @junkonatsumizaka5149

    I absolutely love how you're explaining the science behind the anxiety, instead of just saying 'yeah that'll cause anxiety, don't ignore it, start a journal', because then I don't see the correlation between the 'solution' and the 'problem'. Why am I even doing this extra work, then? That's another thing I dislike about other channels like this.
    I'm going to try this with one of my cycling thoughts, and I hope it works.
    Thank you for another great video.

    Rumination is a specialized form of personalized anguish filled with “woulda, coulda, shoulda” thoughts...it’s what I imagine Hell must be like except, due to its inherent irreversibility and permanence, entirely lacking in the compartmentalizing and forward looking remedies you recommend. Truly agonizing. Great video!

    This is exactly how I meditate. When I have a negative thought, I'll acknowledge it and then make a plan and move on. It's weird how meditation is therapy for one

    • @schaschia6332
      @schaschia6332 18 дней назад

      therapy, in a lot of ways, is assisted self reflection. Meditation also has a lot of notions of self reflection and coming to terms with your inner workings. I am very glad you found what works for you!

    A Blast from the past. Georgia Dow fans are likely to like zefranks earlier work that sometimes had a psychology focus and were well done. Since they are from 10 years ago worth a small bump.

    As a compulsive thought cycler...yes! This! I will try this technique, I've sort of done it, but not quite like you've explained, so I'm excited to try!
    Something I've done that helps in certain situations, if it's a thought that I've actually managed to acknowledged why the memory bothers me so much - I recreate the memory where I handle things differently or things play out differently. This doesn't work for everything, but for some things I've found it helpful. I got the idea when learning about how the stories we tell ourselves about our own lives shape our self perception and therefore the way we move through life.
    So what happens is I take my revised story, where my needs were met or I said or did something better, then whenever the old crappy memory crops up again, I toss that recreated memory at it, and I consciously decide to move on. That acknowledgement that "this made me feel undervalued/misunderstood/isolated" followed by a sort of fantasy version where I wasn't feeling those things, and felt their positive counterparts instead can let me move on...at least in that moment. it's not about believing the fantasy, it's about allow myself to experience it, and accept the positive things it tells me about myself and my own worth.
    I think this will work way better if I fully employ the method you've laid out first; essentially fully processing the memory, maybe it'll crop up less often.
    I came to your youtube channel for the Arcane reactions, but I'm staying for the thought provoking therapy shorts! :)

    I regret not starting journaling sooner. Multiple people recommended it but I was always too lazy to really start or stick with it.
    But it is incredibly useful. I find that it makes the bad emotion less harsh and the thoughts stop repeating for a while because I can just tell my brain that "we" discussed this at length.

      Yeah, I found her through her Wednesday videos. I'm guessing that when she analyzes popular pieces of media, it's showing up in the fans' feeds, and she DEFINITELY needs more recognition if it took me this long to find her, so I hope it keeps working like that.

    My whole personality as a person is based on my overthinking, I end up being considered a nerd and someone who is almost a fortune teller just because I quote " you seems to aways know what to say ". Anything that happens is motive to me to think atleast 10 times in different ways. I will most likely overthink about this comment so much after posting it 😅.

    Pasé por una situación desagradable por mis problemas de abandono ansioso y respondí reactivamente con violencia, eso me dejó sin otra opción que irme para hacerme responsable del dolor que causé. De eso ya van 3 años y aunque he avanzado en el proceso de sanación, aún tengo ataques de pánico que me llevan a tener pensamientos suicidas, cuando tengo que exponer mi caso frente a grupos de personas que no conocen mi historia.

    I have this journal with a button-clasp and a small holder for a pen that I only use just for this journal. I write down all the whats that are tearing me apart before it gets too bad, to sort of get them out and then I close the journal and mentally say they safe there, so I can think of other things. It's mostly questions about how worthless and stupid I am, does the why still need to be there for those too? Or is it ok that it's just the whats in there?

    • @GeorgiaDow
      @GeorgiaDow  2 года назад +2

      The why is really helpful cause it helps you figure out why you say these mean things to yourself and what pain they are from. That allows you to let them go, That is not my thoughts it was from that childhood bully. then you can write what you would say if your friend said this. Let me know how it goes

      @@GeorgiaDow I tried really hard, I manage to identify a couple of origins for a couple of the thoughts, but a lot of them I can't get past the 'because it's true'-barrier. Is it possible they are thoughts I came up with myself? And if they are, then they are true? I do feel a little lighter from solving the ones I did, I managed to shower today. That felt really nice! But I don't know how to solve the other ones

    What if you *don't* believe you've learned something from the experience?
    I ask cause almost all the things I ruminate over are things that I physically don't have better solutions for that don't involve some sort of time machine and learning or obtaining something that I can't get anymore.
