@@avanny3915 it’s no problem if you roll your R. South Germany does that too and even I, as a Bavarian, can’t pronounce her R. And a tip if you really struggle with the r sound you can just skip it in most word. Like in Pfirsich. Just say Pfiasich with a very short a. You’ll still sound like a German :)
I keep hearing the "L" sound, or what I thought was the "L". So when making the "r" sound I started pulling my tongue back a little to the roof of my mouth which helped me to form the sound that I needed to make. If anyone is having issues with "R", that is what worked for me; try pulling your tongue back.
) I have actually asked my german teacher back in the gymnasium to explain this "r", cause she literally never have pronounced it aloud, even once... just kinda skipped it or stopped to explain it was ment to be there... sooo I have asked and that sweet lady told me and the rest of the class, that she don't get it right herself, so she will not spoil our first impression and ruin "the german "R" for us for life")))) Double thanks to you both for this vid!)
1:42 exactly what I think. I’m korean, we don’t have R sound either… I try my best but usually most of sound is more like GH, sometimes I’ll make that sound successfully… Just focus on how to increase the rate of success, not to be perfect like native.
I am from India and this sound is very easy to make for any person from India . It is little bit similar to' r ' sound from Hindi language and marathi language
this is not your typical R sound made at the front by most of the Indians. It's German R sound made at the back of the mouth with the help of your throat.
At first i cant do the r, but when you said :"try pronouncing rot" I CAN DO IT AND I GET WHAT U MEAN ABT THE VIBRATION . I need more practice since i still cant pronouce R alone , but, thankyou :")
Dammit, beaten in German 'r' pronouncination by a Wookie. That said, this was a helpful video. I couldn't understand how to say 'Frau' properly without this - or any other German 'r's, for that matter.
Ohhh i keep coming to these videos bcuz i thought german r is different than french’s, im fluent in french but im not native so i cant rlly tell if those r diff, tysm!!
I feel like to accomplish that “r” sound I have to have a lot of saliva in the back of my throat, is it just me?:)) or this is how it should be? Can you (native speakers) make that sound with a dry throat?
i usually can, but on the other hand i dont really pronounce my "r" like it's shown in the video bc i live in the southern part of germany and we tend to roll our "r" much more (almost like the spanish one) and also not in the back of our throat but with the tip of our tongue :D
After having watched this film I thought that the German 'R' sound should be called the Chewbacca sound from now on :-) :-) :-) ... and now about my experience with some of German sounds... [ I had been taught by my mother - she was German and I really liked to know her mother tongue ] ... the thing which was really difficult for me wasn't at all the 'R' sound but the pronounciation of German 'O' ... I always pronounced it like Polish 'O' or 'U' which was incorrect ... I was trying to say the name of my favourite German band - DIE TOTEN HOSEN - but I couldn't do it properly ... it was driving my mum crazy ... and after about 20 years I still cannot pronounce it correctly ... it is a kind of 'trap' on me and I always 'lag' when I have to say the German words with the 'O' sound ... :-) :-) :-)
No no. It doesn’t sound stupid it sounds southern German. South Germany rolls the R as well. I am from Bavaria and I also can’t pronounce her R. I roll it as well. So no Problem, you’re probably doing a great job
Hahahahaha it's so funny. The sound with the sound. Im Danish and my girlfriend is English. Know this. My God the times we've done this. Danish sentience. RØD GRØD MED FLØDE. Hahahahaha
Instructions not clear, I summoned a demon.
The struggle is real 🤣🤣🤣
Oh yeah. It is hahahah my throat hurts
totally accurate, my throat also hurts trying to pronounce it, especially with the word _pfirsich_

U saved me mate 🤣😂🤣😂😂 Finally I got the trick 😘
i'm confused that where should we place the tip of our tongue? Does it touch the upper/lower teeth? Or is it floating in the mouth?
I cant even do that and i'm german :D
Regina.smiles but.. how do you talk words?
Lady H. Wotton she’s trolling you.
Bist du Bayerish?
Same. But people understand me anyways, even if I can't do it so I don't really care about that 🤷🏼♀️
Really?
I think all the r in different languages of Europe are so difficult to pronounce... but it's good to know. And I like this video!
Thank you so very much, I finally understood it. Need a ton of practice, but I can understand the theory.
And you DO sound like Chewbacca.
