I listen to this on the train into work... approaching the big city, happy with my life but sad sad sad that the lady I love is no longer with me. Life is OK. Beautiful music
Great !! I also still own this CS30, but never did something like this with it. Because of the 12 dB/oct filters it sounds a bit "cold" but paired with some chorus and reverb it makes indeed very beautiful sounds. Never tried it before, because most of my synths are software now. and I never had the money for hardware-effects so the CS30 was a little bit forgotten. Thanks for the inspiration !!!
Hi Synth4ever. 'Better late than never'! Just found your track - this is beautiful - reminds why I first fell in love with electronica (too) many years ago. I think you have blended playing with 'working the instrument' to produce a deeply emotive piece - so powerful. I've played around on newer 'budget' Yamaha kit but this has reminded me that 'newer is not always better' and to get back to basics. Love it - keep it going!
Amazin' sound. As soon as I get time, I'm gonna go through my chord book and find the chords that go with this song and do some arpeggios on my Spanish guitar. Keep up the good work!
synth4ever and please check out my latest post. I did another ambient piece on my baritone guitar over the weekend. And please be shure click the bell notification on my channel, this way you'll be notified right away when post somethin' new.
Cool I'll take a look. I'm subscribed to many different channels and often the notifications do not show up in my feed as a result... I never get an email that you've posted a new video either. Strange, no idea why...
synth4ever well, It's kinda technical. But long story short, I'm havin' issues with my computer. So I can only access RUclips through my phone. And on my phone I can only notify ya through video comments.
I had a CS30L Yamaha (I did play my 7 LPS with him in 80's ) ALPHA III Project Brazil!!Great synth!!! I had too a CS-60 Yamaha and a RX5 Drum Machine!!
Hello synth4ever, that is beyond epic. Well done! I just bought my CS-30 from a collector in Japan. No exaggeration, it hardly looks like it was ever played. I was stunned when it arrived, not a nick on the instrument. I would love to replicate this sound! Would you share the settings? (I can make out most of them except some on the far left & right). Cheers :-)
Hi John, thanks for your kind words, glad you liked this piece. That's awesome you got your hands on a CS-30, sounds like it is in mint condition! :) As for this sound, well as you know the CS-30 isn't exactly a preset machine. I would start with setting the knobs and sliders in same positions I have them. You can also see the LFO routing is to "C", which corresponds to destination "C" on VCF1. The LFO is also pushed to audio rate speeds at points in the song. Later in the piece there is MOD VCO2 (cross-mod) to get more gritty. Underneath it all is the sinewave at max (VCO1 knob in VCA1 section). I should also add there is reverb and delay on the mix to blend things together, which gives more depth. Hope that helps for setting you in the right direction... enjoy your CS-30, it is a very deep and complex instrument and makes for lots of experimental possibilities.
Thank you so kindly! When it arrived from Tokyo two days ago I opened the case & just gasped. It looks like it was never touched. It appears totally new. On the amazing piece you did, what were your sequencer knob settings (1-8) I can see some of them but not all. For VCO-1 & VC0-2 do you select keyboard or sequencer? And last, for VCF-1 & VCF-2 I couldn't tell what the switch settings were at. I'm running mine though a Lexicon MPX550 for reverb & an Eventide DSP 4000 for delay. I think you created the nicest sound I've ever heard on a CS-30! Bravo :-). This synth is very different than any analog I've ever owned. Not an easy beast to program! My Jupiter 6 is cake compared to this one :-). Cheers!
Thanks! Sequencer knobs I don't recall exactly but if you go full screen and really look hard, you can make out the positions (I assume you will be creating your own patterns, however :)). VCO1 = sequencer, VCO2 = keyboard, to noodle on top of sequencer. CS-30 is definitely different than many analog monos, it lends itself to happy accidents and mad professor type sounds very well. This page has a lot of interesting info: www.etcetera-music.eu/public/instruments/CS-30/cs30page.htm Enjoy it!
Thank you so much, it's been very helpful. I created a superb bass patch and if you have an email address I can send you a photo of my settings. It's so deep it shakes my studio when I run it through the sequencer. Unbelievable what this thing can do. It's a 'sleeper' synth for sure.
@@synth4ever That is quite unique I think. Or perhaps I'm wrong. You would more likely know how common this feature was with other vintage synths--To be able to program a sequence, and jam over the top of it with another sound signal--On the same synth! It would seem like the perfect personal jam session/dream!
@@blipblip88 It is quite handy to have the sequencer on the CS-30, even though it is only 8 steps and not pitch-quantized. Regardless it helps if you want to sketch out some ideas and jam over them.

Thank you for the lovely comment my friend, I am happy my music gives you a moment of peace and reflection.

Thank you, you're welcome! The CS-30 is still an amazing synth to this day. So much fun and creative possibilities! Effects also help to spice it up.
Wasn’t expecting such an emotive piece of music, very mournful and quite lovely well done. The Cs30 is such a great looking synth!
Thank you! Agreed, it's a huge knob-laden monstrosity! :)

Thank you my friend -- the older gear definitely has its own personality and character, and I tried to showcase that in this demo.

Hey thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed.

Das klingt schon ziemlich geil.
:)
Very relax ambient sounds, good! 🎹😊👍
Thank you brother, I appreciate the kind words.
Most excellent track, thanks!
Great piece of music!
Did you ever have to tune your CS-30? Where did you start from and is there any step-by-step instruction for tuning it?
Never had to tune it. Rock solid.
I had a CS30L Yamaha (I did play my 7 LPS with him in 80's ) ALPHA III Project Brazil!!Great synth!!! I had too a CS-60 Yamaha and a RX5 Drum Machine!!
The CS-30L is also a great synth. That's awesome you also had a CS-60, they are beautiful!
Very nice - pairs well with my F# Native American flute
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this piece.

That's great to hear. Post a demo sometime, would love to hear it!
So you could program a sequence and play over it at the same time?
Yes, that's correct!

Nice!!
Nice
Thank you Don!
Очень понравилось!!!
:)
Awesome track! I want it..but it does not appear to be on the 3 albums? No track called "Dawn" or is it a new track?
Thanks. This has not been released yet, it will be on forthcoming Synthscapes Vol. 4 when released in future. :)
Great! Thanks
Three and two thirds octaves???
Really nice. I remember Kate Bush making the whistling sound that this synth makes famous.
in what song?
