I think a "for fun" only PvP could work. My thoughts on it would be something like this: Both players (perhaps more?) once joining a lobby together would get to choose either a randomized map or get to pick from a rotating selection of maps (if the players cant decide in time it defaults to randomized). Phase 2: both players select 5-10 ops each that are eliminated from play and cannot be selected for deployment on this map, neither player can see what the other player chose until phase 3 starts. Phase 3: Players select their operators as normal but can now see what ops have been eliminated from the match (note that the eliminated ops are chosen from a master list, players cant see what the other player has so if an op is chosen for elimination that the other player doesn't have it changes nothing) once both players have chosen their ops the map starts. Match begins: this would function the same way a normal map would but each player has mobs and a boss that function as their allies which they want to get into the opposing players blue box while keeping the other players mobs and boss out of their own. As the match continues the number of mobs and their strength continues to grow until one player is overwhelmed. Basically classic tower defense mixed with a bit of sabotage. Should players be able to have their ops attack each other? That I'm less sure of.

The only PvP I see in a tower defense is *Anomaly 2.* In this mode, 2 players face each others, which one side is the attacker ( Using convoy unit to destroy the enemy base) and one side is defender. ( Using tower unit)
