His Live In L.A. "Where The Light Is" dvd is, in my opinion, the best live show ever made. I know.. big statement.. but from your reaction here, you should do yourself a favor and buy it! You can thank me later. Watch the whole show and John will forever be one of your favourite artist. You'll see him play acoustic solo, play with a full band, and play with his Trio (blues) too. He is as versatile as it gets. John is the musician's musician. And that goes for his guitar skills, but also for his vocals and lyrics which are often genuinely in a league of their own too. You're stuck being a fan forever now haha
The thing I really love about this song and the two guitar parts is how it really seems to represent the lyrics well: A couple whose relationship is over and one person starts to recognize it and repeat it, and when the solo is happening it's like the two sides of the argument with different perspectives on the relationship, but then the guitars "Lock in" and harmonize as if to say both sides came to agreement that the relationship is over. Very nice way of expressing the topic of the song through music without words. Just listen to that ending solo again and picture a man and woman arguing and then finally coming to terms.
In a techno/rap generation that we've become, he's an amazing fresh breath of air for those who can appreciate great musicianship. So many good songs; so many great lyrics. And yah, he's popular here in the U.S, but not nearly as some pop stars that can't even play. He's more of a singer/songwriter, and the crowd who follows him are those who appreciate real musicians instead of technology. Glad you found him.
I judged him at first based on Your Body is a Wonderland. I ended up hearing a song of Continuum that I liked. I caved and listened to the album. Phenomenal. Some really great songs. The guitar work is so good.
not just blues and pop, he dabbled into some harder rock, he has a lot of folk/country influence in many of his songs, especially newer work, and also if you go down deep enough, youll also find some jazz work he has done
You give such awesome feedback and reactions!!! It was enjoyable hearing your commentary. Rare to find valuable commentary in a reaction video thank you!
Thanks for that. On guitar forums, people maintain John's the lone guy holding the fort for guitar players, its glory days deemed as being over and all.
Emotionally Bittersweet and Beautiful Blues Sound!!! "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room" is musically and lyrically like a marshmellow on a stick rotating on a stick over a camp fire. Melts in your mouth on its way into your heart. STILL on my top 5 best love lost songs. And you're right; Bruce Hornsby-ish.
Congrats on finding one of the greatest (and possibly most underappreciated) musicians of our time! I was fortunate to have been introduced to John Mayer by an American friend in 2001, so his music has pretty much been the soundtrack to the past 20 years of my life 😎 One of his all time best live performances is his cover of Going Down The Road Feeling Bad, from the Live On Letterman show in 2013. Would love to see you do a reaction video to that masterpiece, the grin on your face by the end of it would be priceless 😁 Have fun catching up with 20+ years worth of incredible music and performances... Steve
He is certainly under appreciated,..........ive watched so much of his music since i made the video and i have a feeling im going to have to edit my top 5 Blues guitarists video soon!!
If you just watch the John Mayer concert "Where the Light Is: Live at Nokia Theatre" that'll give you a taste of a lot of his most popular songs from the first half of his career (it's a mind-blowing concert / the video you just reacted to is from that concert). JCM is one of the best triple threat (songwriting, instrumental, and vocal skill) musicians on earth... Each album is sonicly different, and there are very very few bad songs in his huge catalog. Do You Know Me (live at Red Rocks) is a very unique deep cut everyone should watch/hear.
John is widely considered by many to be one of the best living blues guitarist alive. He's got more "classical" or traditional blues songs he does live and he's amazing.
Love John Mayer! I listen to classic rock more than any other Genre, however, Spotify said JM was my most listened to artist. I gravitate to blues guitar feels more than any other but sometimes don't always enjoy the old blues standards or blues vocals/lyrics. To me, John perfectly incorporates blues style guitar that makes a pop sound not only much more tolerable to listen to but, well, just fantastic. And his lyrics are so relatable.
Please check out more John mayer he's an incredible guitarist. He has plenty of great performances from this concert like 'Gravity' and 'I Don't Need No Doctor'
Everyone’s already mentioned listening to the rest of the Where The Light Is concert, so I don’t need to piggy back on that too strongly. Some of his best live playing that I doubt has been mentioned so far is with Kieth Urban at the Crossroads music festival. Sweet Thing is a full blown guitar show at the end, but Til Summer Comes Around features just about the most tasteful solo I’ve ever seen out of John
As others has said about his live in LA dvd. But if your into the blues, check out anything of his where it’s the John Mayer Trio. Killer blues from a trio. You probably haven’t heard of him because he never gets radio play. Early on his first album was very pop and he got radio play then, but once he started doing blues, the radio stopped playing his songs.
He did a blues trio album which was unbelievably great. You have to check out his song Covered in Rain. Probably his best song and an unbelievable guitar solo.
Dude you gotta check out the version of this song live from the Made In America Festival from 2014. WAAAAY more bluesy. He just tears it up a couple times near the end. Phenomenal. Best live version I've seen by far.
John Mayer is definitely one of my favorite artist of all time. His song writing, production, voice and of course his guitar playing are great. Each album sounds different from the other (genre and all), but it’s for the most part high quality. His voice actually doesn’t sound exactly the same now than he did back then, after he blew his vocal cords and needed surgery. Still has a good, unique voice, though.
John Mayer is my favorite artist, so trying to pick one thing to recommend is DIFFICULT. But in recent days, I've had his album Born and Raised on repeat. Also, his stuff is generally lighter. (Sorry about the double comment, I commented before finishing the video.) Super excited to watch the rest of your videos now.
I would recommend the intro of City Love live in Crossroads Festival, one of the best John Mayer grooves in my opinion. Another one would be John Mayer’s cover of “Crossroads” which is quite unique, commenting as a blues fan.
I listened to that the other day and loved it! I’ve been seriously impressed by him! He’s not going to shift Gallagher or ray Vaughn but what an amazing blues player 👍
Music videos off his new 80s inspired album you’ll dig: - Wild Blue (Knophler-esque) - Last train home (very much Toto vibes) - Shot in the dark (you decide ;)
I'm a huge SRV fan and love John Mayor as well. Fun Fact: John Mayor inducted Stevie Ray Vaughan into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Which was very fitting, since he was a mentor to John. I wonder if you've ever heard of "Beth & Joe - I'd Rather Go Blind (Live in Amsterdam)" Joe Bonamassa is another blues guitar G.O.A.T's I enjoyed your reaction and became sub. looking forward to hearing what you think 🤘🔥🔥
I have, I love Bonamassa………I’ve just put out a top 5 blues guitarists video and if you like joe you might like that one 😊 Thank you for subscribing 🤘 Going down live at the Greek Is my fave Bonamassa performance!
I found him late as well when I heard this song I was blown away. If you want to see some insane (and amazing) guitar riffs watch the video with him and Keith Urban "Sweat thing" live crossroads performance. Make a killer reaction video if you haven't seen it,
I wish we heard more John in the UK. He is tremendously talented and all round good guy. I've never reacted to anyone as I react to John's music . Gets you right inside somewhere - so difficult to explain to anyone who hasn't heard him. Try "Helpless" from the Bud light Dive Bar Tour 2017. It's awesome. Actually there's 8 albums of quality and class plus the live albums. Hasn't made a bad song in my opinion. Master of songwriting added to guitar playing and the voice - my favourite.
This is far from his best guitar work, but it’s still a great rendition of the song. He’s a master of the instrument, from jazz, blues, rock, bluegrass- whatever- he can play it and play it well
Listen to him duetting with Keith Urban in "Don't Let Me Down" live and "Gravity" live in L. A. These both highlight his amazing guitar skills. He really gets under my skin. He is skillful and his rich, expressive voice is perfect, too. Check these songs out sometime.
everything, my favorite artist of all time. got me into guitar and have taken off from there ever since. if you want to hear a great acoustic song by him listen to "neon" live in nokia theatre. same concert as is in that video. one of the best concerts of all time
I would recommend checking out the John Mayer trio with Mayer pino Palladino and Steve Jordan. Complete blues and rock live album. Also their set from the where the light is live album is incredible.

'He's not big over here'...... JM filled the o2 twice over and the tickets went like nobody's business. He has a massive following here and pretty much everywhere else. You'll be saying you've not heard of Dave Matthews next. Both are incredibly talented and have amazing musicians supporting them. They are both musician's musicians. The Strat he's using is a reproduction of Jimi Hendrix's Monterey Pop Festival Strat. I loved your video! Thank you for posting. HUGE JM fan. Saw him last nite in Philadelphia and headed to NYC to see him tomorrow nite. Would love to see your reaction to Neon, Why Georgia and his version of Free Falling. ❤❤
Sorry to correct, but credit where credit’s due. That’s not Steve Jordan. He plays with Mayer in the John Mayer Trio and other occasional appearances, but in this video that’s actually J. J. Johnson on drums. Fantastic drummer (as is Jordan), well worth just watching him play on his own.
I'm jealous that you are just now going down the rabbit hole. So many awesome songs and performances to discover. This guy is a legend.
His Live In L.A. "Where The Light Is" dvd is, in my opinion, the best live show ever made. I know.. big statement.. but from your reaction here, you should do yourself a favor and buy it! You can thank me later. Watch the whole show and John will forever be one of your favourite artist.

@@DouglasLaurindo1 yup, where the light is is my favourite live show of all time
Agreed! Bought the CD and DVD of the concert when it came out!
Second this. Does a few covers as well. Most of its HD on RUclips
I couldn’t agree with you more. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better concert - by anyone. I’ve been an avid fan since seeing it. Top top musician.
heck out neon and belief. my two favorite songs of his. also need to watch him i’m dead and company.
👍 "Neon" never fails to blow me away... every time, no matter how many times I've heard it.
I’ve heard this song live sooo many times and it moves me every time. He always puts everything he has into it.
His 2006 album “Continuum” is sort of seen as his magnum opus. It’s a very tasteful collection of poppy blues
I’ll give that a listen, much appreciated 😊
gotta be the live version though
I'm late to the game, but yes Continuum was brilliant. He had a great cover of "Bold as Love" on there as well as many amazing original songs.
That entire concert is a masterpice. I've sen and heard it hundreds of times.
This was a true reaction. John kicks butt both musically and lyrically. Great video man!
Thank you 🤘
He’s great! Check out his cover of “ain’t no sunshine” live at crossroads in 2010. Very SRV style blues
I’ll give that a blast! Thank you, hope you enjoyed the video 🤘
Creo que es bbking xd
John Mayer is very well renowned man, he's really, really good. He has done work on a lot of big bands
Guitar is a Jimi Hendrix Monterey Strat.
Big influence on him as you can tell from some of his covers
I judged him at first based on Your Body is a Wonderland. I ended up hearing a song of Continuum that I liked. I caved and listened to the album. Phenomenal. Some really great songs. The guitar work is so good.
Don‘t you love when the reaction is filmed by somebody who knows music?! The appreciation is so satisfying!!
John is great cos he really carved out his own niche. He mixes blues and pop really well but blues is where his heart truly lies
He is class, I didn’t know what to expect and I certainly didn’t think he would be so awesome!
not just blues and pop, he dabbled into some harder rock, he has a lot of folk/country influence in many of his songs, especially newer work, and also if you go down deep enough, youll also find some jazz work he has done
