I'm gonna have them play this song at my furneral. Not because of the religious lyrics (im not even religious), but this song is my favorite. Its a masterpiece. Im sitting in awe every time I hear it. Rock symphony, so to speak. Simply stunning.
It would have been cool if this song was also chosen as one of the audition pieces in the drummer audition. Imagine the interpretations of those 7 drummers to this song.
Oops I just slipped on my laptop pad thing and accidentally rated this one star. Should probably leave a positive comment to make up for it then! Amazing song, and solid drumming from Mike - even if it's by no means one of his best pieces of work. Can't wait to see it live in November!
It‘s so tasty because of the snare flam (double hits) at the beginning and the two cymbals at the end. It comes together very well with the toms in the middle
in my opinion, mike is not the fastest player, he doesn't have the best technique, but he is indeed the best drummer of all, because of what he composes, look at the way how he fills and his grooves, the way he can play in a musical way even in the most heavy songs, he is the MASTER!.
absolutely! got your back dude :P but anyways, despite the drumset, gotta love from 1:34 to 1:49, the keyboard sound there is awesome and even funny, just imagine if JP used a powerchord (or whatever is it called) instead of just one string on that part...
He has a new set for nearly every album, Originally he was with Mapex. But bottom line is he has a lot of sets. Back when he had the purple monster (SFAM) he had two others permanently stored in Europe and Asia, the green and red monsters I believe. He has probably used 15 sets or more with DT alone.
When I heard this song I really sad that Mike Portnoy Leaves Dream Theater, but from now I really accept that Mike Mangini is incredible drummer, like Portnoy, even in my hearts and Felling is still like in Portnoy drumming style and sound
Dream theaters rhythms on this album aren't to complicated, and pretty easy to learn by heart in a short time.. the the that impresses me on the video is the fluidity of portnoy playing, and the superb timing he display. He might not play the most complicated things, but he's a powerfull and accurate drummer.. as long as he's not playing solo, they kinda suck :P
Mike Portnoy is the god of Drums! His legend! His in Hall of Fame when his about 20+ smting or 30+ i mean.. younger drummer just like Neil Peart I think.. i just cant remember truly~ any who~ Mike influence by Neil Peart that's why 54 seconds said by ElectricClown 1 sounds a like~ ryte? hehe~
everyone has parts that can be tough to them, and other parts that might be impossible to some, may be easy for others. everyone has individual strengths. i dont recall what part of in the name of god you are talking about, but i do think thats a good song for people who wanna learn DT to start at.
If you're looking for speed and presition try Hellhammer originally from the norwegian black metal band Mayhem. He also plays with Dimmu Borgir and other bands.
Holy crap once again, but you can tell this was his first time in the studio in months due to how awkward most of his movements were in the first 30 seconds or so.
I agree with LOLC4T, why can't people just enjoy the music. There are also a lot of people out there in You Tube land who say I can play this, or I can play that better than he can. Or, he can't be that good because that fill was easy. My problem with most of those people is, they're not on You Tube and they have to copy everything, nobody is copying them.None of these people have made it anywhere. Mike Portnoy is among the greatest it always feels right when he plays and he has fucking power.
I TOTALLY agree. If you can play 1 million drums in a minute who cares.. but if you can play slow with rhythm and get the same reaction then you are 110% better than the person who can play a million drums in a minute.
yeah I liked his work on the awake and images & words records most... he´s still a genius, but the sound on the systematic chaos album makes it sound less brilliant. You´re damn right lookin forward to seeing them, I did yesterday and they simply ruled the city! wow and the songs from that album sounded much better live!
Mike Portnoy rocks! Dream Theater Rocks! :D oh yeaa~ btw what is the headset for? i mean his wearing it.. is it the beat or the sound of the songs in it??
I don't agree but it's your opinion and of course I respect it, at least we and most of us listen to this kind of music and not reggaeton xD let's see the good side :P
Even after 13 years, this is still one of the best song of DT
portnoy is so awesome, he can even change clothes while playing and noone does even notice!
I just wanted to tell that this joke never gets old, but then I realized that you were probably one of the guys who invented that joke haha
I don't think an album could possibly start in a better way
I think the best part is from 0:00 to 9:05
Erik Blok you're wrong, the best part is from 0:00 to 25:40
😂comment section is hilarious 😂 on the same page people
I'm gonna have them play this song at my furneral.

WHO THE FUCK dislikes this masterpiece?

Absolutely the worlds best musicians.
I love how Mike Portnoy tackle his drums!
He is AMAZING and a real GENIUS in creating such delicious beats!
@-@
You people need to stop hating on other musicians and just enjoy Mike's God-like drumming.
i hate mike. mike mangini.

these fills are insane.
i loved learning this song on drums.
the fills sound even better live on his acrylic kit!
Drummers looking at Mike's set and playing.
Guitarist me: looking at that mesa all the way in the back John uses.
It would have been cool if this song was also chosen as one of the audition pieces in the drummer audition. Imagine the interpretations of those 7 drummers to this song.
Yeah but apparently if you don't play exactly like the record, you're done (as seen in the videos)
@@murphymoerf I never got that because mangini interprets certain parts differently live
He is, and will always be my favorite drummer!
welcome back Mike !!!! 25.10.2023

one of my favorite drum fills is the one he does at 4:57. I don't know why. It just sounds really good.
Agree
It‘s so tasty because of the snare flam (double hits) at the beginning and the two cymbals at the end. It comes together very well with the toms in the middle

Buddy Rich, the fastest drummer I have ever heard in my life to say the least.
And perhaps one of the best too.
Best progressive drummer ever.
Hail you my freind!
x
in my opinion, mike is not the fastest player, he doesn't have the best technique, but he is indeed the best drummer of all, because of what he composes, look at the way how he fills and his grooves, the way he can play in a musical way even in the most heavy songs, he is the MASTER!.
Wow Mike portray 🤟

Mega😉🤘
MP rules !!!!! just the best in the whole world!!
The Monster of the Drum....! For me Is great
Hope so :)
they couldn't take the awesomeness
Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy... Best drummers in my eyes.
What about Larry Mullen Jr.? He's not such a virtuoso but very originam and precise.... Of course are Neil and Mike genius....
absolutely! got your back dude :P
but anyways, despite the drumset, gotta love from 1:34 to 1:49, the keyboard sound there is awesome and even funny, just imagine if JP used a powerchord (or whatever is it called) instead of just one string on that part...
falling was an awesome album...different to their other stuff but still pretty cool.
keep your minds open
i never knew mike could change shirts so fast.
In 2019 i want that shirt
Seems like he's having so much fun at the part starting at 3:43
Mike's awesome!!! He has a high-hat for both his legs.
At 0:30 he does a magic trick! I think he's my fav. Drummer (all time)!
Haven't seen this one yet.
These videos have all aged well.
oh yes
at 2:05... wow. He goes nuts :D
at 00:50 a cup of coffee appears behind him ahah
When I heard this song I really sad that Mike Portnoy Leaves Dream Theater, but from now I really accept that Mike Mangini is incredible drummer, like Portnoy, even in my hearts and Felling is still like in Portnoy drumming style and sound

everyone has individual strengths.

this solo and the octavarium solo have to have a duel
friend*
i hated falling into infinity but awake was pretty good
Mike Portnoy rocks! Dream Theater Rocks! :D oh yeaa~ btw what is the headset for? i mean his wearing it.. is it the beat or the sound of the songs in it??

Mike is awesome. Oh and on Travis Barker, He's just fast, that is all.
I don't agree but it's your opinion and of course I respect it, at least we and most of us listen to this kind of music and not reggaeton xD let's see the good side :P
