Congrats on being able to do RUclips fulltime now! You are consistently one of my favorite photography channels and I can't wait to see what more content you'll be able to make!!!
Congrats on the new (full time) gig, and so stoked to see you put Willem in the video. He's absolutely crushing it. The zine is gorgeous and love the fold out pages he did. Def have to grab it.
as a new sx-70 owner. . . I COULDN'T BE MORE EXCITED!!! polaroid and other camera companies of yesterday need to think outside the box like this. pentax, here's looking at you ... if they re-released a version of their legacy glass on a mirrorless camera system, for example... it's like these companies do not like making money.
Punk Rachmaninoff I would love to see these companies re-release some of these cameras. If Polaroid Originals released a camera with full manual control, no matter the price, I would be all over it.
@@thegreatvanziniphotos5976 yeah, they won't be exactly like the old Polaroid and Fuji ones but still Type 100. They're still in production at the moment
Great video as always. Thanks so much for spreading word of the return of Lomography's DigitaLIZA, I snatched one as soon as I saw your instagram story 😂
Hey Matt! Love this and can't wait to get my hands on one of these! Just a small note: the aperture on the SX-70 is not fixed at f/8, that's the widest it goes. Depending on ambient light, focus distance, and on whether you have a flash attached, the aperture will be closed up to (at least) f/22.
If one reads thru all the OPENSX70.com post....it spells out how the SX-70 has an shutter/aperture all in one which is constantly changing during the shutter open/close. No SX-70 regardless of mods is EVER going to be "fixed f8" unless is fixed to that one and only shutter speed/aperture opening (such as mod's for the flash switching to this mode). Folks like MINT 670 and the like list it as "Fixed F8" just so it is easier to grasp the shutter speed equivalents if it was....which is why opensx70 uses EV. The top speed the shutter can EVER reach on an SX-70 is 1/180th of a second....and as it does that it only opens to F22, such that BINGO... MINT would call that F8 @ 2000. You can read all about it here: opensx70.com/posts/2018/11/sx70-shutter
Anyone of you know about the exposure compensation wheel? Is it equivalent to the (-1, -2, +-0, +1, +2) you would find on a "normal" camera? I've been trying to figure out when and how to best use this. Since it's already auto exposing the image, could I potentially change the shutter speed if I use it in extreme lighting conditions? Appreciate any advice!
Matt, I have a Polaroid SLR 680 with Manual control modifications that allow me to control the shutter speed from bulb, 30s, to 1/8000. How would I use my Sekonic Litemaster Pro L-478D to best meter with this camera? Because the shutter speed and aperture are integral to one another, I'm not sure which mode to meter in. Could you make a video with some examples of how you use your light meter with your Polaroid Cameras?
Looks really awesome! Side note: I think your camera sensor needs a cleaning cuz of that smudged on right corner. Blow out first before cleaning cuz it my just be dust or a hair. 👍🏽
Sort of...this is a DIY (i.e. cost will be dirt cheap) version of the $850 Mint version. I talk to Gary quite a bit and he is totally okay with the is DIY project. Heck opensx70.com even figured out a way to do double exposures...which MINT hasn't.
Nice! I like how you introduce us to other photographers doing cool stuff as well. The zine does look rad and it’s being released on my birthday! I am wondering what kind of film I should start with as my first roll of film on my Pentax K1000, and where I could buy film that is reliable and not expired. Is buying online a good option?
Jessica H.T. Li Nice! Happy early birthday! I buy online pretty regularly! If you’re looking for color film, Portra 400 is a great option for just about any kind of shooting.
@@mattdayphoto Actually I just checked the price for a pack of 5 rolls of Portra 400 and it costs nearly as much as my camera. Because I am working part-time and going to college part time, I think I will go for the Kodak UtraMax 400 for economy. Given that I am new to this camera, I anticipate I will have a steep learning curve to get through, so it's good to make some mistakes on cheap film and save the good ones for later :)
The SX70 is indeed a cool camera, but... I just loathe The Impossible Project's film and as it is - at the moment - the only available film I just keep mine in the exposition cabinet.
Thanks for the heads up on the DigitaLIZA on Instagram! Ordered them right away. Gonna try your scanning method with my 5DSR. Could be interesting with a 50mpx sensor.
Matt I can't thank you enough! Glad you enjoyed the zine

@@mattdayphoto it's a missed opportunity for these companies, they lack the vision to build outside the box...
the opensx70.com is a DIY of what is already available for the most part from MINT mint-camera.com/SLR670/cameras/SLR670-S/
I just ordered 5 packs of film for my Fuji Instax 210. Wide format Monochrome film which I haven’t tried yet so I am very excited .
Wow on the zine & the sx70 & everything! I miss the old Polaroid pack films. Brilliant photo's.
What do you mean? Supersense makes them

MiNT has their own version, the SX70-S.
Joaquin de Prada como no estás vendiendo esto ya? Yo lo compraría tal y como está.
¡Compraría esto también!

JeffDvrx yeah good note. I was just thinking wait a minute the aperture isn’t fixed it would
Be cool if it was though the images look beat wide open.
@@MorbidJayGames haha imo wide open is a huge part of the charm of the pictures you get with the SX-70 💖

It’s pretty far from here...

Awesome product. I would certainly buy it when available 🙂👍
Didn’t mint do this already ???

SX70 on steroids

Would love to shoot film with Willem.
Should I ever get a SX-70, I'll definitely try modifying it. Great Video!
