- Join us on a family adventure in Tam Coc, Ninh Binh, Vietnam. We catch an overnight train from Hue to Tam Coc and give you our experiences and advice on this! We visit the UNESCO Heritage site of Trang An where we take a boat tour through the limestone casts and marvellous caves, we hike up the Lying Dragon Mountain for stunning views over the area and enjoy scooter riding to a delicious Vietnamese dinner. You'll be amazed by the stunning views and nature aspect of this region.

From Hue to Ninh Binh by train means you actually skipped Phong Nha, where the World Heritage listed caves are much bigger, older, longer, deeper & etc.
We wish we had more time to explore more. We will have to go back again to visit new places and all the places we missed.

& also the food missed such as but not limited to snakes, crocodile, frogs, jellyfish & etc. They are the experts so Gordon Ramsay learnt a lot in his videos.
800,000VND sounds a lot. In 2019, from Phong Nha to Ninh Binh or Hanoi was same USD11/adult on a sleeper bus.

Last year, HCMC to Nha Trang 3 Columns 2 Levels tight Sleeper Bus
was 275,000VND/person. In terms of distance it was still cheap. Luxury Bus was 450,000VND.
In 2019, I went to Trang An & Phong Nha instead of Ha Long Bay due to different directions.

My Vietnamese friend told me parking fee is very common, especially for attractions, restaurants & etc. I do not think you are scammed. 10,000VND is cheaper than a can of beer.
It was normal to pay for parking yes, but at the attraction parking space, not at the locals back yard parking he made up, pretending to be official to make money, that was the scam. It is actually talked about a lot online for this particular attraction.
Hanoi streets, in front of many restaurants, some people collect parking fee even they do NOT own the streets. My Vietnamese friend whose parents work for government told me not to mess those people around because they may behave like Mafia.

Some luxury sleeper buses have 2 columns only so the beds are wider like 1.2m. 3 columns budget sleeper buses have narrower beds but if you are exhausted enough, it is easy to fall into sleep straight no matter what bed.

Vietnamese vodka is very affordable to make you sleep. Coffee & tea can keep you awake in the day.

Australians should know statistically the fatality rate of motorcyclists is around 30 times (not %) higher than car occupants, even no licence is required in Trang An, it is not worth to risk with your family.
