Great stuff guys loved york and whitby see you then.
Thanks Scott! Glad you enjoyed the ep! We will see you next week! P.s thanks so much for taking the time to comment, really appreciate it!
Absolutely stunning, those steps so steep, how did Daniels knee go .
They were very steep and it was a struggle for him, but slow and steady gets him in and out! 😍
Gosh this is such an awesome area!! 😍😍
It really is! So stunning! Just have to beat the crowds!
i have been loving following your adventures as I am planning my trip to the uk and was so excited to see in the title the Sycamore Gap Tree as its was on my bucket list...devastated I wont get to see it now a big thank you for showing it! Such beautiful little villages and countryside, as an Aussie its hard to fathom places being so old!
Thank you so much! I am so glad you could see it through our eyes. You should still visit Hadrian's wall if you can, and there's a memorial type area where the tree was too. And you're so try, it's hard to imagine the age and history as Aussie. I hope you have an amazing adventure, anything else we can help you with just ask!
Yeah it wouldn’t have been a problem leaving the car unlocked
In a way yes, but we also carry quite a bit of expensive camera gear that I would have had to leave there unlocked, so didn't feel comfortable. I would have been nervous/stressed the whole time, & it would have taken the joy away, so it wasn't worth it for me. It was a tough call though. Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you enjoyed the episode. 👍🏼
Thanks so much for watching everyone! If you have any questions about hiring a car in the UK drop them in the comments and we will be sure to answer them! What do you think about the way this breakdown was handled?
👏🏻👏🏻👨🏻🌾👍
Thank you! I hope you caught the last of my replies in the chat!
@ yes , might have to catch up on instagram messages one night, use to help with their targets for the algorithm
That sounds good!
Thanks Stewie! Glad we got through that ordeal. 😅
The long canals are like the rivers in Ninh Binh. Narrow boat makes me feel like Halong Bay Cruise. Going thru the long tunnel is like small boats in Trang An going thru the caves. All are World Heritage areas incl 18km long Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal.
There are definitely some similarities between the two!
A very different way of exploring England.
Absolutely! A real experience is what we say! :)
I checked the prices. Some boats can jam pack 6 or8 people, by economy of scale, each person is around or less than £100 for 3 nights.
Yes, depends if you can make the most of all the beds 😂
Loch is Scottish for Lake it's nice that you are respecting our language a lot of people don't.
Thanks! Us Aussie folk are generally respectful beings :)
It is another level up in travelling by controlling navigation locks yourself.
It sure is! A lot to remember and control.
Loch is the Scottish (Gaelic) word for Lake. Regards from Scotland
Thanks Mark! Appreciate the watch, comment and info! P.s. my maiden name is Wilkie and I have family that came from Scotland to Aus.
Fabulous! .. I've abseiled down into the canyon, then 'canyoned' upstream beyond the pulpit in a wetsuit.. some hairy moments and discovered groaning muscles I never knew I had! ..all great fun.. and remember the auld Scottish saying: "Today's rain is Tomorrow's whisky!" .. Slainte'! 🥃*🥃 😃
Wow! What an experience to abseil it and canyon through! I'm sure that would have been exciting and thrilling at once. There were many in the water walking through some of it, we were not well prepared haha. I've not heard that saying, I looked it up & I like it, it's such a great way to look at life. 👍🏼🍻
Why does the British government allow so much of historical Scotland to fall into disrepair? The amount of derelict cathedrals etc like Arbroath Abbey ?
That's a great question! We saw the Whitby Cathedral that is ruins now too, but also a paid experience to visit it and the museum (coming up in a couple of episodes), it makes me think it must be due to the reason that caused damage maybe war damage or something else as to why they are left that way. 🤔🤷🏼♀️
🎉🎉brilliant 👀😅😅👍
Thanks 😆 Glad you think so!
I’m sure you will agree Scotland is magical for adult and child , from Unicorns to Kelpies and loch monsters , castles ruined and functional the history seems endless , some dark and some inspirational ie the Inventions Scotland gave the world that have large impact even until today . Television , Telephone , bicycles , with pedals 😂 , Penicillin , Tar roads invented by McAdam , the Rain Coat the Mac or Macintosh , to name a few 😎❤️🏴.
Scotland just has so much to offer! We sure do love it, if only it was warmer haha! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, we appreciate it! See you next week for part 2?
@@OverlandExposuren If it was warmer it wouldn’t be Scotland.
Very true!
17.40 I bet some would think this is CGI or film set if you guys hadn’t shown it for real 👏👏👏❤️🏴 Better than anything Disney could do , the rough and tumble setting would have been more of a thrill I’m sure
Thanks very much, glad you liked it! & that I managed to show it's beauty! :)
How many No Entry , or no Trespassing signs did you find ? . You can basically go where ever you like in the wilds of Scotland as long as you respect the land and any landowners livestock
That is what we love about Scotland (we actually say this in next week's episode haha).
13.00 if you did a bit of research or invited people in real time to suggest destinations that are free you would be surprised at how many things worth visiting are free to enter and enjoy . Churches , cathedrals , museums , historical sites . Most ask for a donation only and that’s up to you to give or not . Looks like you found a few gems though
Thanks Robert. We did post on our FB & Instagram in advance of visiting Scotland for suggestions, however most things suggested are paid. We do manage to find some great free and cheap attractions to mix in with the paid ones, and like you said we found some great gems either way :)
10.00 it’s not just Tartan remember , it’s a beloved clan statement ❤️🏴😃
Very true! :)
£800_ £1000 per night, where?? Balmoral. I normally pay about £300 to £400 for 4 people in 2 rooms.
Crazy prices, honestly. We looked at doing the NC 500 and a bnb room for the three of us was going to be £800 at a few different places in random towns in the North. We were 'peak' time I believe so apparently that was why 🤔🤷🏼♀️ we were so shocked 🤯
@@OverlandExposure Next time try Premier Inn , Greenock or Inverness or Fort William or Forth Bridge. 1 family room, 2 Beds with breakfast under £150. Stay away from Premier Edinburgh ,Crazy price.
Greenock is always the cheapest one. Easy access to Loch Lomond, Glencoe via Erskine free bridge. Also Inverary,Bute and Argyle via Western Ferrys, they charge. Easy drive to Nardini`s ice cream parlour in Largs.
@TheDarkhorse1947 sounds great! Thanks! 👍🏼
@@TheDarkhorse1947There’s a Premier Inn at Balloch on Loch Lomond.
My word a woman that knows how to cook such a rare thing these days I do believe you are an endangered specie 😇😇

Loved this episode ❤ brilliant
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it :)
Thought you would be cooking Haggis 😉🤣
where's the puke emoji?

Incredible how Mother Nature is reclaiming the castle in such a short time
it is amazing isn't it!
God I love that kid… honest as they come
hahaha absolutely!
Loch… bloody autocorrect
I was going to pick you up on that! 🤣
Typical Teacher 🙄
you know you can edit you're comments!?
@@OverlandExposure you’d have no one to pick on then 🤷♂️
true!
Lock is actually the Gaelic word for lake
I figured something like that but why don't they just change it to lake already... 🤣 they call a castle, a castle, and a forest, a forest... etc...
But a Girl is a Lass, a Grandfather is A Grandah, a lord is a Laird…. And the list goes on… There Scottish…. Bit like Tasmanians 😂😂😂😂
hahaha very true!
We call them Lochs because we are not English Why not ask the English to call their lakes Lochs
That's a great suggestion! Which word of the two was the first spoken in the languages based on time? I have so many questions haha (p.s. I hope you know I am joking about Scots calling it a lake, I love the Scottish language and culture).
🙋♂️
Hi guys. I really enjoyed this episode. It’s where I came from man years age. Been back only once. My sone is there tomorrow 11/11/24 on tour. Home now is Bunbury West Australia. Glenn.
Hi Glenn, Thanks so much for watching and commenting, I am so glad you enjoyed it and hope it brought back some awesome memories for you. I hope your son enjoys his time in the area too.
I'm coeliac with other food allergies, so appreciate the Gluten Free info guys! Was thinking it will be difficult and I'll have to be organised! We're getting excited about Castles after this episode! 😂
Hahaha well if castles excite you then you're going to be in the right place, there are soooo many of all ages and restoration levels. & GF is easy to buy in the grocery stores (Warburton's Tiger Loaf is the bomb-diggity!) & easier in the UK than in Aus, but buying it out on the go is hard, so organisation is key!
Just love the beautiful country towns , great that you had some sunny days, and great climbing skills Aria 💕💕💕
Thank you! We are so glad we got a few days of nice weather to explore, it really does help with the mood haha!
I thought they built that wall to keep the Rabbits out 🤦♂️
hahaha oh dear!
At least you never got the Earthquakes like there getting around the Hunter at the moment..
Has there been a few recently?
@ yeah was another one early this week I think it was.. 4. Something magnitude..
😲🤔 interesting!
Hi, Hewe a good life all.
thanks!
Wasn’t that the tree vandals cut down or another one
Yes that's the one. We were there just a few weeks before it happened 😲
There are idiots in every country unfortunately
there sure are!

I would give up betting if I was you I have been there many a time as I am a Yorkshire man born and bread so time to pay up you lost the bet
hahaha, that's cheating! You don't count then :-P
@@OverlandExposure Just to clarify the UK should be minus 10 15 20 degrees the only reason it is not is because the Gulf Stream runs down the west coast we are only 250 miles off the Arctic cycle But I suppose that is why the UK is so lush and green we get a lot of rain instead of snow
Airbnb and holiday homes are a major problem in some areas in the UK. They often smaller homes bought by people from outside the area who cab afford to pay more. Locals are being forced out small towns and villages as the prices of housing. Local amenities such as schools shops doctors are forced to close as the population of villages drop. Out if season many become ghost towns. Business find it hard to get staff. Some areas are now putting limits on the number of Airbnb and holiday let as they do more harm to communities than the revenue they bring. To be a responsible tourist, you should really consider purpose built accommodation rather than opting for the cheaper former homes of locals
Holiday homes are a problem in areas all around the world, but if they are managed well by owners, councils, guests they can be a fantastic attribution to communities. It is all a balance and management. We travel full time and to a budget, having airbnb with our own kitchen and space for our daughter is much better for us as we couldn't travel full time with only hotels as our accommodation, it wouldn't work. We spend money in the community, share our adventures and bring life to everywhere we visit. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@OverlandExposure unfortunately in many places around the world, they have destroyed communities. The lack of effective measures to stop the tide of Airbnb has made the situation far worse. Many areas are now taking measures to restrict Airbnb heavily as any economic benefits are far outweighed by the harm they cause
When thinking about British weather, you should always remember that UK is roughly at the same lattdute as the Hudson Bay and the Alaskan peninsula
As Aussies, this doesn't mean much to me... I just know it's not known for the best weather! We do compare our latitude distance from the equator in the UK to places in Aus, just obviously north and south of it.
Why would a family of 3 need a dishwasher?!? LOL. (By the way, are you sure there wasn't a washing machine behind one of those cupboard doors in the kitchen??). And too much whining about the weather - just enjoy the countryside. My best walks have been out in atrocious conditions! x
A dishwasher is a nice luxury but as I said in the vid no big deal, lived for many many years without one and still do. And yes, 100% sure there was no washing machine, I always look in every cupboard and behind every door, & double checked the listing. & The weather, it was beyond atrocious for summer and for weeks on end, we thought it was funny how bad it was.
Wow, its really moving through Stainforth Focre, you can hardly see the 3 waterfall steps. And Ribblehead, where the HP train was 'meant' to be in the Film, as Glenfidich is way too far North...!!
Yes, it's crazy! I was going to include a pic of what it was meant to look like so people could see the difference but forgot 🤦♀️ So why didn't they use Ribblehead for HP?
It's Janet's foss not floss - related to the word force - both of Viking descent meaning waterfall..
My bad - typo or speech too?
Love the town of Settle, the flower pot festival is so imaginative and creative, very clever, pity the weather was not the best for you when you were there. The scenery was amazing.💕💕💕
It is such a beautiful place even in the rain :) Glad you enjoyed it!
The Horse hanging over the wall wins it for me 👍 Beautiful place Yorkshire Dales..
They were cool those ones! We loved our time in Yorkshire!
You keep dancing like that.. end up with a lifetime ban from Merry old England 😂
🤣🤣 I'm not sure if I'd be opposed to that or not 🤔
@@OverlandExposure don’t blame you with weather like that, Daniel’s description was the best 🤣
Haha I know right! I was being too optimistic and PC 🤣
I’m late 🤷♂️. The socks 😂😂😂 love em
🤣🦘
What about the starlink mini.
Starlink Mini is a great option for less power and less space, even a little cheaper. We haven't tested it ourselves for effectiveness but we haven't heard any bad reports on it so we think it is another great option.
22:28 Can she get any cuter?? LOL!!!
Haha thank you! But no we don't think so 🤣
@@OverlandExposure Hahaha! :P
You were charged a parking fee of 10K Dong, right? It's not free to park. Most of places, especially tourist attractions do. Lack of local knowledge on your part. Not a scam. 10K Dong is only US$0.60. What a big deal!!!These tourists say they spend a lot of money in Vietnam, but the cost of living is way cheaper than the home country. Convert Dong into your own currency. You will be ashamed for your ignorance.
Actually it is free to park at the main area. It's not the money, it's the scam. Dressed up as police and directing you into their private parking lot like they are an official so you pay them. No lack of local knowledge & no ignorance on our part. IT WAS A SCAMMER PRETENDING TO BE A POLICE OFFICER WHEN HE IS NOT!
