  • 🇻🇳 After eating a bowl of chao khoai, a special green porridge, and getting relationship advice from the old men and women of Hai Phong, I was still a bit hungry so I decided to drive my bike on down to a place selling a really unique snack called "bánh đúc tàu". Banh duc is essentially a gelatinous, gooey rice cake which is cut into strips and eaten with various toppings or sauces, but this one is really special as it has roots in China.
I pulled up on my bike and man oh man was this place busy. Locals all crowded around three ladies in front of a small shop on the sidewalk dishing up bowls of the dish. I sat down and ordered a bowl, which the sellers were quite shocked to hear a foreigner speaking Vietnamese. It was a pretty funny reaction.
The actual dish itself was crazy cheap at $0.50 a bowl, topped with tons of different toppings such as braised shrimp, a salty-sweet cashew sauce, and many other things. It was really good.
    Hope you enjoy.
