- This lovely group of contact photographs was part of Vera-Ellen’s estate when she died in 1981. Her cousin, Fred, gave them to me, and they are so beautiful that I wanted to share them. They were taken during one of the happiest times of her life. The premiere of White Christmas took place the same evening, she had recently been married to Victor Rothschild, and life was good for Vera-Ellen. #veraellen #whitechristmas #hollywoodglamour

Thank you for such nice comments! Briefly, I tracked down her cousins, who, amazingly, lived in the Midwest near me, and I asked them if they wanted to see my scrapbooks of V-E. They were amazed that a 22-year-old girl would be interested in her, and so they gave me a lot of photos. It was amazing! That was in 1986. Thanks again for watching my videos!

They were married for 12 years, and unfortunately, their only child died at the age of three months of crib death. V-E was never the same after that. Also, I believe Vic cheated on her at some point. Very sad.
Do you happen to know if Edith Head made this dress for Vera-Ellen?
Hi Nicole, I’m sorry I didn’t answer your other message yet! I don’t know if this was designed by Edith Head or not - it definitely has her look, and it wouldn’t be uncommon for her to design something for Vera-Ellen for the premiere, but I’ve never read anything as such, so I can’t say. I’m sorry! I do feel like if it had been designed by Edith Head, it would have stated this in the back of some of the photographs I have of her wearing it, but again, I could be wrong. Are you studying Edith Head and her relationship to Vera-Ellen, or are you just studying them both separately? I’m happy to help in any way I can! Happy Holidays!
