Episode 45: Rita Hayworth: 1930s Style, Part 1 @CRF-ds7ie
As a young starlet in the 1930s, Rita Hayworth spent much of her time in front of the studio photographers modeling both fashions of the day as well as her film costumes. Here is the first part of a series of photos from my collection of Rita modeling fashions from 1935-39 (a few from early 1940 may have snuck in here), some of which are from her films such as The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt and Only Angels Have Wings, among others. A starlet’s work is never done! Thank you for watching! #ritahayworth #1930sfashion #filmcostume

In Episode 11 of my RUclips channel, I shared photos of my visit to the home in which Rita Hayworth lived in 1942. It was a beautiful home, and in 2021, it was up for sale for the first time in decades. Unfortunately, this gorgeous storybook-style home was demolished and replaced. Not shocking but so sad! The home was exactly as it had been in 1942 and a stunning representation of storybook-sty...
Episode 43: Vera-Ellen: Did She Or Did She Not Try to Hide Her Neck? @CRF-ds7ie
Просмотров 8734 месяца назад
As the decades since Vera-Ellen’s stardom have gone by, her spectacular dancing talent has sometimes fallen by the wayside as people speculate about whether she was trying to hide her thin neck in the wake of anorexia rumors. Did she wear high-necked clothing and elaborate chokers in an effort to conceal her neck? I will address the “neck rumors” in this video which features photographs of Vera...

The Easton Drive house in Benedict Canyon owned by Jean Harlow and her husband, Paul Bern, was the gruesome scene of Bern’s 1932 death under mysterious circumstances. This lovely group of contact photographs was part of Vera-Ellen’s estate when she died in 1981. Her cousin, Fred, gave them to me, and they are so beautiful that I wanted to share them. The premiere of White Christmas took place the same evening, she had recently been married to Victor Rothschild, and life was good for Vera-Ellen. #v...

Wonderful collection of stills from the film! Love that you have included candids and wardrobe shots too, along with your fine commentary... this video could not be better to give a feeling of what it was like during the shooting of the film. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your wonderful compliments - they made my day! Thank you so much for watching!
Such a great dialog for this video. These are all movies that I adore & constantly look for on channels like TCM. I watch gor more fabulous videos. Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching!
U wish lol
Hauntingly beautiful.. the Easton Dr. House...
I need to go to this museum. I live less than an hour from it!
A remarkable house and remarkable that it's still standing and with so little change. I find the setting uncomfortable, it's so closed in by the trees and steep hillside and so much of the property is dark rocks and stone and wood. I'm curious if there's a nice view in the other direction. Just yesterday I saw a video about Jean Harlow and learned that she didn't like the house. Being from Kansas, Jean Harlow would have been accustomed to a lot of open space! I'm also curious about the other house where Jean Harlow lived for a while and that is still standing though altered over the years. I did some searching online and found that the house is now so surrounded by trees that it's nearly invisible from the street and an aerial view only shows the roof.
Thank you so much for sharing this lovely video. I am 61 and grew up watching White Christmas. It was my favorite Christmas movie of all time. The costumes that are showcased in your video are exquisite! You're right. You don't get the full details in the movie. They are breathtaking up close with all the beading, lace, and all other intricacies. Edith Head was an amazing designer. I am so glad that they were able to save these valuable outfits from this movie for posterity. Thanks again for sharing. I loved it! 💗💗
Thanks a bunch Caren! Really interesting to see it with your point of view. Fabulous! I am a big Jean Harlow fan and I have many of her movies.
I just read that it's been demolished. Outrageous!
Why was it torn down? A major corporation demolished it? Made out of real quality products without any codes. Tear it down build cheap pile of crap with codes in its place?
I watch White Christmas every year just to see her dance. She was phenomenal.
They were in love, together on an off intimately. I do really know.🤣 Rita was a family friend she spent alot of time with my great aunt and uncle. Its a love story that lasted decades ❤❤❤❤️
Beautiful view
Missing your videos on RUclips. Hope all is well.
Thank you so much for your kind wishes! I’ve been traveling and haven’t been able to get a new video out, but I hope to soon! Thanks so much for your support of my channel!
@@CRF-ds7ie Glad to hear all is well. I will look forward to your future posts. Take care.
Barbie doll, eat your heart out!
Rosemary Clooney’s daughter-in-law, Debbie Boone, has the black gown from the night club song/dance scene. Ms. Boone wore it when she was the musical guest at a Cincinnati Pops Christmas program in the early 2010’s.
Oh wow!! I didn’t know that!!! Thank you for the info!!
@@CRF-ds7ie You’re welcome. It was beautiful even from a distance! I can’t remember if it had the white decoration on the back or not.
Was the house for sale or what? How'd you get to visit?
A friend of mine knows the owners of the home. Thanks so much for watching!
go on google maps: they mash up 'de place..........GONE WITH THE WIND (BULLDOZER)!!!
The sexiest dancer and movie star who ever existed on earth🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much for watching!
Una lástima que la derrocaran. Era una casa preciosa.
The house is very creepy looking but the surrounding property is gorgeous. I love how they made the pool to look like a pond….appears very natural.
Thank you so much for watching!
She was still crazy skinny.
Anyone who spots this upload of "Behind the scenes of White Christmas", focusing especially on talented Vera Ellen, will get gob-smacked. This, truly, is a super-rare video with shots from this eternal classic. Dancing - and acting - came naturally to Vera Ellen by the savoir faire she displayed in her various musical films. In the 50's, movies were such pleasurably perfect time capsules, but, then, perfection was a 50's ideal. Looks were secondary and quite of few of these actors - including Vera - didn't have perfect features, but their acting/dancing skills were displayed in overdrive and how! That was the thread of commonality that ran through all of her musical films. No other actress could hold a candle to her style of dancing because Vera knew, deep-down inside, that she was the very best. An extra bonus here are the various glamorous outfits worn by Vera and Rosemary Clooney. Hollywood, at the time, was the pioneer in apparel and fashion and the world followed religiously what the Hollywood stars wore. More behind the scenes of films of the 50's will be more than welcome. How about behind the scenes of Ten Thousand Bedrooms shot in the USA and Rome during 1956-57 starring Dean Martin, Anna Maria Alberghetti, Eva Bartok, Lisa Gaye and Lisa Montell. The summer dresses worn in that film were a high point of interest. Thanks!
Fabulous
Thank you so much for watching!
Just checked Google Maps and this home at 453 Dalehurst, West Los Angeles has been torn down. The map shows the date "Nov 2023" and there's a covered fence all along the street side of the property plus partially up the viewer's left. Caren's video was posted June 22, 2023. So, whoever bought the house bought it for the property and couldn't care less that Rita once lived and was happy there. Such a shame.
I know - check my episode 44 if you get a chance because it deals with this, although I erroneously placed a photo there that I thought was built on the property when it is actually just a rendering. So sad. I’m glad I got to document it before it was torn down. Thanks so much for watching!
@@CRF-ds7ie Thanks for the update. I love "old Los Angeles" architecture in its many variations and would live in any one of them in a heartbeat. For the most part, the homes were well-built and certainly were lovely.
Thank you for these amazing pictures!
Thank you so much for watching!
I love White Christmas, it’s my favorite holiday film. Vera Ellen is a fantastic dancer.
She sure was! Thanks so much for watching!
I JUST now fell upon this video !!!! I Can NOT believe that these costumes are still preserved and so beautifully !!! I am 66 yrs old,, I have been watching this film every year during the holidays from the time I was roughly 5 !!!! my 2 sisters and I used to try to figure out that "pretzel twist" during the scene "the best things happen while you're dancing" we would drag my older brother into the family room and make him try to figure out that "twist" where everyone would change partners............ what wonderful memories. !!!!!!!!!!!!! The Best Things,, happen while you're dancing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Great memories! Thanks so much for watching!
Fred Astaire is not handsome.
Haha! What a funny comment. He’s very debonair. Thanks so much for watching!
White Christmas is my absolute favorite Christmas movie. It might even be my all time favorite movie. Another thing for my bucket list - the Rosemary Clooney House. Thanx for posting this! 👍
Thanks so much for your nice comment and thanks for watching!
One of my favorite actresses ❤ thank u for sharing ❤
Thank you so much for watching!
My ABSOLUTE favorite Christmas Movie. The RED gowms at the end are simply GORGEOUS! I always thought if I was younger and getting married, I would dress exactly like Vera did at the end of the movie. I have watched White Christmas every year since I was little. Ironically, I was born in 1954, so this movie holds a special place in my head. Thanks for posting all the costumes Vera and Rosemary wore. A very special movie indeed!!
Thank you so much for watching! I agree with you that the red gowns are stunning!!
We showed it to the kids last Christmas. They want it to be a new tradition! White Christmas lives on😊
What a fantastic tradition! And it’s great that it was your kids’ idea! Thanks so much for watching and supporting my channel!
Lovely video, thank you! Which song did Vera Ellen sing herself?
She sings, with her own voice, when they are getting off the train, and each of them sings a part of the song “Snow.” Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you so much❗ your photo - videos of the magnificent & very talented Rita Hayworth are masterfully done. These are great tributes to a wonderful lady, dancer and actress legend.🎶💯💎💯🎶
Thank you for such kind words! I really appreciate it!
Just discovered your channel. This was a very interesting and entertaining video for Astaire & Rogers fans. Thank you from a fellow “Caren with a C”. P.S. I’ve always loved the joke about Ginger Rogers doing everything Fred Astaire did but backwards and in high heels.
Thank you so much for your kind comments! And it’s nice to hear from another Caren!! Thanks again for watching!
Wow, I just watched the Sebring story. He loved the house and it seems quite mysterious. Thank you for posting. ☀
Thank you so much for watching!
"Happen While Your Dancing" is my FAVORITE part of the movie
It’s such a beautiful number! Thanks so much for watching!
This house has sence been torn down 😢
I know - so sad. I talk about it in episode 44 if you want to take a look! Thanks so much for supporting my videos!
Everything about Vera-Ellen is amazing! Thanks for the video.
I agree! Thanks so much for watching!
I think a scene in 1950’s Three Little Words is a nod to, and maybe even a light-hearted response to that neck rumor. In a scene a little over an hour into the movie, while she’s getting dressed on a boat, we see her shadow through a pothole. She walks into the shot, acts like she’s looking into a mirror off camera; then lifts her chin and stretches out her neck; turning her head like she’s purposely showing it off with a tiny smile on her face before beginning to place a scarf around her neck and tie it on. 😊
Interesting! You’re very observant! Thanks so much for watching!
Maybe Rita wanted to marry Robert, or at least contemplated the idea. But female hypergamy would not allow her to marry a mere 'makeup artist' i.e., marry down! She had to have famous and rich lovers...she paid a high price for that. Robert may have been the best partner she never had! Hypergamy is a b!tch!
That’s a good point - I’ve often wondered about that. Thanks so much for watching!
I think Ms. Ellen was perhaps the most beautiful and graceful woman to be on the silver screen...period. I am blown away by her athleticism and yes, "Abraham" was a tour de force in dance and fitness. I don''t think we'll ever see her kind again.
I agree wholeheartedly! Thank you so much for watching!
Her figure was lovely with the tiniest waist!
Vera Ellen’s final resting place is at the cemetery in my neighborhood, Kagel Canyon CA. I put a rose on her grave each Día de Muertos. I believe she was the most athletic of the Golden Age dancers. Being a theatre geek, Choreography is one of my all time favorites.
It’s “castle like”
White Christmas is our family annual tradition. Introduced it to our daughters when they were young nearly 37 years ago. A classic.
That’s a great tradition! Thanks so much for watching!
Vera Ellen was a fabulous dancer and had such a stage presence. But my word she was so thin. In today’s world it would have bordered on anorexia. Her waist was so tiny. Wonder if the dancers burned all their calories off by rehearsing so much or if they barely ate anything in order to stay thin?
I think she did both, although she was more obsessed about what she ate rather than anorexia. It was definitely an eating disorder of some type, however. Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you for this video. I have loved White Christmas since I was a little girl and each time I watch it I enjoy it even more. The dance scenes with Vera-Ellen are my favourites. Unfortunately, there’s a version edited for TV that plays each year in Canada and is missing The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing-which is why I bought my own, unedited version!
Oh, that’s terrible that they cut out that number! I’m so glad you have the video! Thanks so much for watching!
