The Liberator is one I'm most excited for; I plan to use it as a supplement to my Vulture for the ability to operate out in say a roid field. With its cargo cap i should be able to operate for hours out in deep space picking RMC.

And if I don't have enough friends by the time of its release, I'd go for a RSI Galaxy for it's ability to work in several gameplay loops that I find interesting. Also the Aegis Vulcan has piqued my interest, especially after this video

This was an amazing thoughtpiece! Talking about potential hardpoints etc is cool and all, but YOU SIR, you just look at the opportunities the ships might offer and that really is the important part. For example: I know there are more sensible choices over a Nomad. But I just love it and it's my favorite and I can't hear you la-la-la! It's what the ship can offer that's important. Always looked at the Liberator like a barge. But you are spot on with the mining venture. Or the Vulcan, not the best repair/rearm to be had, but can be operated solo and perfect for a small squad. Or even eclipse, just stay a bit behind and let the eclipse rearm itself.
I'm changing my answer on the poll: more of this at your convenience please!

An alternative, albeit much more expensive one, to the Merchantman is the Kraken Privateer, as it is also meant to be more of a marketplace/mall/station than its normal version. Both Krakens are not combat ships, and are Industrial Carriers.

  • @travisj2370

the banu merchantman is my most anticipated ship on this list because it does abit of everything the other ships can do
it can be a light carrier and fit small ships in the top bay and the cargo bay if youre skilled enough
my guess would be around 8-10 pisces or razors
its covered in some hefty firepower so it can do bounty hunting and other combat roles
it has a med bay and mall so you could set it up like a hospital ship or a mini city and land planetside often to trade and heal

The Orion is not exactly the next in line after the Mole. There is a RSI large mining ship planned.
And only because we have 3 types of mining fleshed out, doesn't mean that the Orion could be done quickly. Since ship refining isn't in just yet, which the Orion will also have on board as well as material sorting. And the second theory of mine: the Orions mining process will be another type of mining. Like the vehicle munching claw on the Reclaimer, i guess that the Orion will break up large asteroids to munch them internally. Those mining drones could either work like small prospectors, or like remote controlled ROCs to mine of crystals from asteroids in space.

Most of the bigger ships don't really pique my interest simply because their intended gameplay purpose is still so many years away. We won't be seeing the javelin or the orion before dynamic server meshing is fully implemented and the 100 player limit that we currently have is completely gone, till then they're just dreams in the minds of their backers. Personally I'm much more interested in the ships up to the size of the 600i or so as those don't take years to make and offer great gameplay value to basically every player and not just those that can actually gather 80 people to crew a javelin.

  • @Leptospirosi

I have serious concerns about large ships, unless CIG shows it can pull its crap together.
The Liberator is great, but how will ships be managed? who owns them? Will I, when I bed log and come back later, be able to operate the ship, if the owner is not me, and is not present (no party then)? How many of it's own ships and vehicles will the owner be able to spawn an store into the Liberator?
What about an Orion: can the crew operate the ship if the owner is not in game? it takes weeks of gameplay in real world to get a profit for such a massive vessel, same as currently the Reclaimer fares, with a crew of up to 5 members who need some time to fill up the cargo bay completely.
Other ships are problematic, like an Idris or a Javelin for the shear size of their crew, or a Carrak, or a Odyssey, ships that need to stray out into the nothing for a long time.
Even smaller ships can be problematic: an Expanse looks like a fine idea, until you realize it's cargo is not that impressive, and you need real time refining to get the job done. Unless you are working with a lot of mining ships in an Org, and you cargo could fill up pretty fast, finding other miners you don't know is difficult, as miner tend to be sussy about strangers looking for them.
A good combo, if the game allows that, is for a Liberator carrying a Vulcan, an SRV, and a F7C-R for long range scanning and protection. It could also carry a Pisces Red, for the medbed, and a Hull A inside the hangar for retrieving and moving salvaged containers. This seems all nice for a couple of player working in Pyro, "IF" the game allows so many ships to be spawned and kept on the carrier. The lack of a proper respawning bed on many large, multu crew ships is also a point of concern, as it makes persistence hard to keep.
Another concern is about reclaim time of these large ships ans stability of the game: it can take 1H to get back a ship who just collided with an invisibile asteroid, or may be just teleported on the other side of the verse due to a 30K. What about your BMM filled with thousand of cargo boxes you go around and sell as a moving shop, when something happens to the ship?
I think capital ships are currently too vulnerable to be attractive given the shear amount of resources in game (and IRL Money) they take. Risk could be acceptable for a military ship, which play fast and furious scruffs, but much less for industrial and commercial ones, if they are used consistently instead of that "once in a year spin off" for the LOL.

    • @Farrister
      @Farrister  Год назад

I think you're right, although that said, there's a niche for them. One of my least used ships in my hangar is the Hammerhead. One of my favourite ships in my hangar is the Hammerhead. It's rare that I have a full crew together to go out into the 'Verse and blast away at some fighters, but that's one of my favourite things to do. I'm OK with that too, it's a group play use case.

The Orion “IS NOT” the next mining ship to come out. It’s a capital class ship, not a large. They already did a community poll a little bit ago asking which company we would like to see make the next Large Mining ship that will act as an in between of the MOLE and the Orion.

    • @SnuffitLabs

The Orion wouldn't be feature complete until we get resource management and meshing anyways. I own one and am excited for it, but as much as I want it, I'll wait until it actually does what its supposed to rather than have something like the Reclaimer where its barely usable and the arm and drones don't work. (I want Rock'em Sock'em Spaceships!)

I have no interest in owning huge ships but I am looking forward to operating off my Orgs Kraken. I am very interested in the Liberator because technically it is still a solo ship and I can use it to mine solo or just carry cargo as well as supporting others. It even looks as if you can fit an Expanse alongside a Prospector. If it goes on sale again and looks to be ready to release within 12 months I might just melt half my fleet to get one.
The Vulcan looks very interesting but almost all its gameplay looks to rely on other players which makes me nervous as medical beacons and fuel beacons currently suffer a lot from pirates using them as an easy way to rob you.
