Bishop was an avid critic, rightfully so, of president Bush on issues related to war and etc but he also knew how to take advantage of an opportunity to move the people he served forward, even if it meant stepping over party lines.

Gone are these days when strong church leaders knew how to intellectually and expressively speak for the church without actions that to promote themselves but rather the people they are graced to lead. It wasn't about going viral, it was about getting favorable results for the voiceless.
It helped “the black church” do more for their communities by giving them a means to secure more money… churches started community development corporations by which they did outreach; more money than the already far stretched tithes & offerings.
