Thank you Anthrax. This is great reliving the growth of the band. Brings me right back to trading cassette tapes and finding you. More bands need to do this. Talking to you Overkill.
Dan writing so much of that album.. and then kicked off days before it comes out. Wow. Talk about harsh! Yet they reunited on SOD and produced a gem for the ages.
Great to see Neil Turbin, Danny Lilker and Dan Spitz giving commentary here. I was really disappointed when they replaced Neil - Joey's a great singer, but Neil's voice was more raw and powerful IMO, which fit better with the band's aggressive thrash metal style. And Dan Spitz was like the thrash version of Randy Rhoads - the band was never the same after he left.
My excitement level for these episodes is mirrored by Neil Turbin’s screams that get higher and higher in “Death From Above.” I never heard even Halford touch that. The fact this is being done for each album is great. Thanks guys, this should be a fun series.
Hopefully they remaster Fistful Of Metal, all the remasters from Spreading The Disease through Persistence Of Time sound incredible and would love Fistful Of Metal to get a sonic upgrade too.
I met Danny in Detroit at Harpos he was walking down the street back to the club from a store we were lined up out by the back door cool guy, &a tall MF'r
@@adamschulte4119 I met Hellhammer at a urinal next to me at the same show. Odd thing was there was like 20 open urinals and he walked up right next to me to use it.
This is so amazing. For me personally Anthrax was no1 in my big 5 (Anthrax Metallica Megadeth Slayer Testament). Thank you Anthrax for finally letting us share the journey.
So happy to hear y'all playing the classics in E standard again! Doing the 40th Anniversary special live set in that tuning would be the cherry on top! 🎸
Thank you so much for spending the time to put this together. I really got into the band at Among The Living (give me a break, I was born in '81!), and the early years stuff is so cool.
I've always felt Charlie was 100 years beyond all drummers ...crushed me as a young drummer...to this day I measure all drummers to him...including myself
Only 1 complaint - I wish these episodes were longer - cause they are super interesting! Love all these details about the early early days! Can't wait for the upcoming episodes!!!
I love it, saw them opening for Metallica at the Aardschokdag festival in zwolle The Netherlands in 87, that was a gig, remember that Spreading at the Disease álbum, I think Celtic Frost, Metal Church and Laaz Rockit where on the Bill.👌🤘🤘🤘😈
@@eyeexaggerate7687 cool ! No I didn't visit that place yet. I living at the far end of the peninsula or the mouth of the St-Laurence River . It takes 12 hours for go to Montréal and it sucks. . But for go see Anthrax. .. no problem. :)
ABOUT TIME!!! The need to come back and the time is now!! If they tour people will come !!! Bring rock in the light?? It's not dead!! Just deprived???? Bands come out to play???
Gahd. I remember learning Death Rider... I'd started playing months earlier and had to play it so, f'n, slow, to get my fingers to work and kept inching it faster and faster, having to take a step back in tempo, then creep up again. When I finally got it at speed? You couldn't wipe the smile off my face. ✌🏽🤘🏼
Wow... I first got in touch with Anthrax music through an unauthorized press of Fistful Of Metal made by a record store here in São Paulo in 85. It was the only way to have an Anthrax record in Brazil back then. I fucking loved that album. They had everything I wanted in my dream band. Shortly after that, I got cassette recordings of "Armed and Dangerous", "Spreading the Disease" and that's it: I WAS HOOKED FOREVER. I didn't have any pictures, lyrics, or album covers. All I had was their music and it was more than enough for the musical journey I was after. In 2021 they are still one of my biggest references and sources of inspiration as a band, as musicians, and as composers. To me, since Fistfull 'til this day, they have always been a band who is ALWAYS taking Metal to the next step. Every time a new Anthrax record comes out, it's been like "Shut up, listen, stop drooling, learn, enjoy, improve". So good to see Fistful getting some attention and respect after so many years. I can't wait for the next episodes!!!!!!
My 1st introduction to Anthrax was on the Joe Franklin show-I believe Scott said “put your speakers out the window and turn it up” So I took the black n white tv I had and put it in the window & turned it up.
what they're "not" saying is that a thousand other metal bands were present at that time. anthrax was getting a lot of attention when everyone was struggling to put out demos in nyc. they all had the same dream. anthrax were very lucky to find themselves in that ideal situation
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that anthrax has been a band for FOURTY YEARS?!?! love me some anthrax, gotta admit I didn't like the John Bush area, although I did like the last album he did with them, but worship music and for all Kings are literally two of the best thrash metal albums ever, and to think that they are new albums, well it's just stunning, and I'm so glad joey came back, he sounds better than ever.
Dan Lilker, low key metal genius
i fucking LOVE that Anthrax is doing this series. this is so fucking interesting
Best thing on RUclips right now, 2 episodes in and so far it's brilliant
Lol..
Seen the Enslaved series on Norwegian TV? it's also amazing!
@@onairmastering No I didn't yet, thank you for the recommendation! I will definitely check it out, it sure looks interesting
hard out my bro
Fistful of Metal is a Metal Classic
. Also Dan Spitz rules
Dan Spitz. irreplaceable.
This is priceless metal history being told!
I love hearing Scott Ian talk about music. It doesn't matter what band, you just hear his passion for the music.
can't wait until we hear about Among The Living...late 86 into early 87 was an incredible time for Thrash...glad I was there
This is so cool 🤘🏻
Choppa!
Omg it’s Choppa
Hey man, pls do an Anthrax tone video. One of the classic albums :)
Yo, WTF... Watch the BEAT!!
Not as cool as your covers \m/
This needs to be on dvd with live and unreleased stuff on cd along with it
Yes!
100%
Johnny Z. Godfather of American Metal. MUCH respect.
Very underrated album
And guess whtat? Now I have to listen to the whole Fistful of Metal!
I didn't get into the Rods until decades later, which was a mistake! Totally underrated band.
Thank you Anthrax. This is great reliving the growth of the band. Brings me right back to trading cassette tapes and finding you. More bands need to do this. Talking to you Overkill.
Dan is the Man. FOM stands epic.
Turbin's vocals was a Halford & Paul Stanley love child.
Benante was double kick king in the 80s.
Agreed.
👍🏻
Benante still is double kick king. Fistful is awesome. Blasting it right now !!!!!
Legends. Hope this series gives a mention to S.O.D. too
Thanks for the years of great music keep rocking Anthrax is forever
Oh man, make these episodes longer! I'm loving it!
Fistful of metal is still one of the most powerful thrash metal records. LEGENDS!
I remember buying this tape when I was a kid 🤘🤘
Greatest thrash band ever! And still my favorite band of all time.
These videos are great ! Cool seeing Danny Lilker get his flowers, he’s consistently one of the most underrated musicians in the history is Metal .
Charlie made lockdown bearable. Brilliant history lessons by the way.
40 years congrats and I have been listening to you all at least 30 years if not longer!! This is such a cool series!!
Fistfull of metal is a great album
Dan writing so much of that album.. and then kicked off days before it comes out. Wow. Talk about harsh! Yet they reunited on SOD and produced a gem for the ages.
I love Deathrider, it's still one of my favorite Anthrax songs.
Anthrax needs to release all three demos, and the 7' on CD/vinyl...and maybe a remaster.
The 7 inch is a bonus on the Armed and Dangerous CD. The demos, yes, would make a cool release.
@@metaldams78 Cant even find the demos on bootleg. Dont really need the 7', but that would be so cool.
They don't need to. Only diehard fans buy that crap. Most people aren't interested in buying a compilation of demos lmao.

Agree with all of that ^.
These are so good! Like the Mandalorian of metal, I need more!! I've kept Anthrax with me since 1987. Anthrax forever

I agree. The pitch of is notes and tone is totally crazy.
Hopefully they remaster Fistful Of Metal, all the remasters from Spreading The Disease through Persistence Of Time sound incredible and would love Fistful Of Metal to get a sonic upgrade too.

I met him at the urinal next to me at an SOD show in Cleveland. Turned to me, gave the horns with his free hand and simply said “metal!”
@@adamschulte4119 I met Hellhammer at a urinal next to me at the same show. Odd thing was there was like 20 open urinals and he walked up right next to me to use it.
He got my friends and I on the guess list for a full Nuclear Assault tour as we were following it in 89.
So cool to see Ross the Boss. Love Manowar 🤘
This is so amazing. Having Neil Turbin talking, wow! Great album, so underrated! This serie is a must, thanks !

I love to hear the untold stories of my favorite bands!!!
I can’t imagine how cool Anthrax would be if Dan stayed in the band. But we got Nuclear Assault, Brutal Truth and S.O.D. thanks to his awesomeness.
Frank is a great bass player and live performer. Nothing against Dan
@patrickofarrell8758 yeah the anthrax we know is thanks to Frank. Dan is really fuckin cool tho. His bass tone on Handle With Care is so good
I'm so stoked for these videos. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Damn it these episodes are awesome.!
Deathrider is still one of my favorite Anthrax tunes!

These guys always - ALWAYS - came across as honest, even if they were never my favorite.

Give Greg Walls his credit
I really want Charlie's Anthrax hoodie! Killer🤘🤘🤘... I would also like to have his talent.
Such a huge part of my childhood! Awesome!!!
John Z. 🤘
"We're not worthy"! Lol
ANTHRAX RULE THRASH 💜
Great guys, just great!👍🏼
Would like to hear a little more from Dan Spitz
Dan rules! Love his Randy Rhoads-esque lead style.
Congrats boys!!!🤘🤘🤘love me some Anthrax!!
This is the greatest shit I've ever seen on RUclips in the history of the internet.
It would be cool if you guys made a shirt with all those album covers on it! That would rule!
Danny Lilker's VB tray....awesome.
These guys are the only ones to tell us how reliant Metallica was on Dave.
Great idea to do an update to the VH1 - Anthrax - Behind the Music. Enjoying the series!

DEATHRIDER what a amazing song!
Neil's screams are just so great on the album.
This is just getting better and better 🤘
The only problem is that these episodes are too short. Rock on!!
