I just bought it digitally (I know, I know...) as, to my shame, I realised I didn't actually own a copy and the production sounds kind of muddy to me. Only criticism as the songs are pretty much flawless. What I love about it is the cover art: very minimal, un-metal like (for the time) and open to interpretation. I mean, remove all the wording and most people would have no clue as to what type of music we're dealing with (unlike the first two albums!). Very mature decision for the band. Of course, it's since gone on to be an iconic image and the single one most associated with Anthrax (bit like Metallica's MOP cover).
Spreading the Disease, probably along with the first Metal Church album, strikes that perfect balance between thrash and traditional metal. Phenomenal albums the both of them.
You’re lucky you got to see those tours, that’s awesome. I didn’t discover those albums until the early nineties....and there’s people much younger than me discovering this stuff a lot later than that. Timeless music.
It is what I loved most about Anthrax at the time: They didn't seem to take themselves too seriously, they were fucking fun, and they actually moved around the fucking stage like they meant it
Great stuff! Only small complaint is about Corey Taylor claiming Metallica and Slayer in 85-86 were wearing expensive "costumes" on stage. Metallica in that era made a name for themselves largely for just wearing jeans and tee shirts. Slayer were much the same back then. Most you'd see was a leather jacket here and there (James and Kerry). Corey Taylor s a dork.
I was totally into New Wave in the early 80s. I was born in 1970, so the 80s were my teenage years. By age 15 I started getting into heavier music. Mtv was huge in the 80s, and was my primary source for discovering new music. The first heavy metal song I really got into was “Run To The Hills” by Iron Maiden. I loved it from the first time I saw the video. That got me into watching Headbangers Ball. In 1986 Anthrax hosted Headbangers Ball, and from the second I heard them I was hooked on thrash metal and, especially, Anthrax. They were my favorite band through the 80s. Now, 35 years later, I still love Anthrax and thrash. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long.
This is the best music documentary I’ve ever seen. These episodes are so well constructed, and this one was especially magical. Can’t wait to see more!!! Anthrax rules!!!!! 🤘🏼😆🤘🏼
We all love Anthrax because they are genuine, no fake anything. What you see is what you get and if you don't like them and their music, it's your loss.
"I can't be into the band more than the guys on the stage are into the band", well said mr. Zombie. That's why Anthrax rocks live so hard. They bring the energy with them every time and it's infectious.
I like watching Scott Jam with other famous guitarists. You can see a little kid glowing over his own awe of the situation, not even realizing he is that same metal god in our eyes. A humble god he is.
I'm from Brazil and been a metal head since 1985. I remember the Brazilian metal bands all looked evil, dressed in black and talked about the devil. That's what Sepultura were about in Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions. Then in 1986 they shocked us with Schizophrenia. But not only for the music they started making, but also because the way they were dressing: they started wearing beach shorts and colored t-shirts, backwards baseball caps, looked goofy and smiled a lot on pictures. We didn't understand why, for there were no Anthrax albums released in Brazil yet. We understood it a bit later, when Anthrax got more popular and started appearing on metal magazines. They were a huge influence on Sepultura's attitude at that point.

Proud and fortunate to have witnessed the rise of Thrash out of the underground. 1985 was the year it all broke out and Spreading the Disease is one of those albums that exemplified this era. I still love it to this day!
Got the vinyl of Spreading in 1986 in Rome at this awesome store called Disfunzioni Musicali, and it's still part of my collection. I just love these guys, they're genuine.
