As a 67 year old former weekend athlete I agree that rucking is excellent exercise. Rather than using a weighted vest I train with my Get Home Bag. Extra gear or more water can be added as needed. I also cycle with my daughter that's less than half my age and a bundle of muscle :)
'Staggering' with swag - cool! Carrying the dumbbells isn't new but very effective! Maybe wear a light warm up jacket or wind breaker to hide the 'tactical'? It's a great system! Hey 'Birdie'! Glad you guys escaped the wrath.
My wife and I hike over (mostly) rough terrain. And I never carry less than 16 lbs. in my pack-- Military gear would be awkward the places we go, so that's a "no go." The gear I DO carry isn't what I rucked with in the service, but then I'm not the soldier I was either... Lol! Two pieces of advice that'll help anybody: (1) work a stretch routine into your day, and (2) carry plenty of water to stay hydrated and provide good muscle elasticity
This is a FABULOUS workout. I have wanted to give it a go for a while now. I try to walk 3-5 miles daily anyway, so why not do it carrying extra weight? Awesome, thank you for sharing this. Assignment accepted ;)
I had to start out from the bottom again, 800 meter walk was where I started, now I'm up to about 4 km with my ruck, hills are still slow going but I just remind myself that I have all day if I need it.

I am older and play ultimate with and against younger guys. I use ankle weights to walk around in. I am going to start using my plate system.
I can't increase my time but I can increase my difficulty. I incrementally increase weight but no where near 52 pounds. Good on you.
it doesnt feel as heavy as you think when balanced.
