    Angelique: Things seem to have changed.
    Pinhead: Hell is more ordered since your time, princess, and much less amusing.
    This variant of the hell-priest was 'born' in the 1920's, yet it's essence and knowledge are far beyond it's physical age.
    It's soul is perhaps eternal, but it does appear to shift bodies over time.

      I always took that line to mean Cenobites are relatively new creatures.

    No they don't age, they just change actors.

  • @DiscoTimelordASD

    In Hellraiser Bloodline Pinhead tells Angelique that Hell has become more ordered since her time - which was centuries ago (1700's I think).
    Elliot Spencer/Pinhead was from the 1920's so he would be much younger than her, so this would have to be second hand knowledge from their realm.
    In the original Hellraiser movie they are refered to as explorers from another realm.
    As they are from another realm (eventually refered to as Hell) this could imply that the rules of their world are different to ours meaning that time passes differently for the cenobites or perhaps even that they are beings that operate outside of time itself.
    Thank you as always for your fantastic Hellraiser videos 😊👍

    I think they age by experience, not by looks.

    Losing power from not having souls to harvest makes sense, I wouldn't equate it to aging though.

    In scarlet gospels pinhead uses magical to basically obliterate the whole cenobitical order, one high ranking cenobite survives because he prepared his own magical defenses some time prior, the leader of the order of the gash, the "unconsumed" also dies after the hell priest gains lucifers armor and fights him, lucifer however, the ruler of hell attempted to kill himself but only really manages to put himself in a strange limbo, i reccomemd the book to any hellraiser fan as its pretty epic in scale amd goes into many details of the workings of hell

    Yes Mr H happy birthday! Did you do something cool? My opinion is that the cenobites don't age but grow weak without suffering. If they were returned to suffering they would regain their "strength" or former appearance. I look at aging as irreversible. Just my opinion. I look at that more as they are starving not aging. Growing weak not succumbing to time. I really think at this point in their career time has no hold on them.

  • @OMEGATHENIETZCHIAN
    @OMEGATHENIETZCHIAN 6 лет назад +4

    It's really dependent on the definition of age.
    If they physically waste when weakened is that aging?
    If they gain knowledge, experience, perhaps even power over time is that aging?
    For that matter can the cenobite created from a child who, once changed, has the relative height of an adult man be said to have aged? At least to a supposedly ideal physical state?

    I think as far as Heaven and Hell (in the Clive Barker's universe) go that it takes place in a
    dimensional schism between Time and Space. Like to say before I was born when did I exist? or where do your remains go when they decompose or become energy for plants. You can't really say that nothing is left. But you also can't reanimate anything more than an echo of what response it used to give you.

    I'm sorry but anything that Gary Tunnicliffe has added to the Hellraiser lore should be stricken from the record, as that guy has absolutely no authority on the subject and he also doesn't understand the Hellraiser universe (just watch both of his movies as proof of how little he understands the lore).
    He's a SFX Artist, nothing more nothing less, I mean you wouldn't ask your plumber to perform open heart surgery on you.
    I think the only inconsistency with the Cenobites is that as Doug Bradley got fatter Pinhead got fatter, however that's nothing to do with the lore and merely a byproduct of the actor ageing.
    In the only Hellraiser films that count (1&2) the Cenobites explain that they're interdemensional beings and that time for them has no meaning, it's even shown in the film that time in their realm does not correlate with our time.
    Frank seems to be only missing from the real world for a few weeks, maybe months, as the family home that he's squatting in has food and supplies that are rotting and decomposing however the house is not infested with mold and insects ( there are maggots living off discarded food in the kitchen, however the place is not infested with flies and the fact that there's still food there means that it's recent enough).
    However when Frank is resurrected he makes it quite clear that he experienced everything that the Cenobites had to offer, which is pretty obvious that he's spent a considering amount of time (decades maybe even centuries) being tortured by the Cenobites and "tasting their pleasures".
    The Cenobites even reinforce this when they're questioned about Frank they talk about Frank in such a way that implies that they spent a considerable amount of time with him and they also tell Kirtsy that they "Have an eternity to know your flesh".
    If they can spend "an eternity" to torture someone with pain and pleasure, then surely time isn't an issue for them, as they obviously exist in a realm where time has no tangible meaning.

      @TunnelVisionAthletic 6 лет назад

      If you listen to Gary's interviews he has good idea about the Hellriaser lore. He just couldn't put it forth in his films for whatever reason.

    • @SpeedBoost
      @SpeedBoost 6 лет назад +2

      +Alex Sutton
      I listened to both interviews with him (the ones on this channel and Midnights Edge) and he comes across as a nice guy but a terrible writer who's ideas are clichéd and tacky and also stolen from other more talented writers (Seven, Hellraiser 1&2, etc)
      He directly connects the Cenobites to Christianity, which is moronic as they explain in the first movie that they interdemensional sadomasochists with no allegiances to Angels or Demons.
      Then in the 2nd movie we are shown their dimension and it has no relation to a biblical Hell, it's shown as an endless labyrinth with an omnipotent overseer in the Leviathan, and the only allusions to Hell that are ever made is by characters who are describing their situations as Hellish.
      Pinhead mentions how Larry is "in his own Hell and quite unreachable, as are you!" when talking to Kirsty, however it's quite clear that he means a figurative "Hell" thats tailored to each individual, where they are experiencing the Cenobites "pleasures" and can't be reached by one another.
      The Cenobites never overtly declare themselves as being connected to Hell and they only seem to ever reference it as a means to explain to humans what the experiences that awaits them will feel like to them.
      Tunnicliffe makes the Cenobites into "middle management" for God and gives them a "boss" who can veto their plans, when the whole point of the Cenobites is that by opening the box you are making an agreement with them that you want to "taste their pleasures, an agreement that they will enforce whether the recipient was aware of the deal or not, as long as the recipient was driven by desire to solve the box.
      Also turning Pinhead into a human was moronic, as considering it was God who transformed him back into a human, it means that that decision is irreversible now as even if he reopened the box (which were made obsolete by Tunnicliffe anyway) God would just click his fingers and turn him back into a human again and again until the end of time or until Pinhead just dies of old age as a human.

    • @davidarbogast37
      @davidarbogast37 6 лет назад

      I agree. Connecting the Cenobites to the ever pervasive realm of Christianity really soiled the Hellraiser experience, and is as you say, extremely cliche and over done.

    • @HetAtef
      @HetAtef 6 лет назад

      Jeff Allen no the former pinhead was played by Doug Bradley, they got a new guy for the recent one. I still thing Doug is the best.

    • @HetAtef
      @HetAtef 6 лет назад

      Jeff Allen seems I may have your misinterpreted your question. In the latest movie it seems Elliot Spencer was thrown back into his human form so, since he is pinhead then pinhead is gone back to being human. So time will tell who will take the mantle of head hell priest. Perhaps the Auditor?

    • @jeffallen9883
      @jeffallen9883 6 лет назад

      See this is where I am confused, I thought Pinhead was sent back to human back in Hellbound and Hell on Earth, so I was thinking that the Pinhead in Judgment was different from him and assumed the mantel. Since Doug did not return, I assumed they had some other human fill the Pinhead role, it was never stated in the film.
