Drongo, I want to really congratulate you for putting out this tournament. This was very enjoyable and made my nights a very good routine of drinking some wine and watching the games after a stressful day.
I hope you are getting recognition from Microsoft an the other stakeholders involved for making the game so much more popular and interesting.
I'll see you on the next one.
This was such a great series, cant wait for outback octagon 3
Hopefully with a new civs!
it wont happen , oktagon mod admin is gone @@michal4736
Great competition. Top notch casting. Marred by puppy and wam clearly working together in the finals. Puppy moving completely across the map to attack beasty after beasty attacked wam in game 3 made it very obvious.
no
@@quantummight2972 yes
It was so obvious after the 3rd final, and I don't even play AOE4.
Not if you have been giving attention to the previous games of the tournament.
If the 3 people together fight each other, they always just get cleared all at once by the next untouched player, which was beasty in game 3.
So puppy had 3 options:
1. fight mlord together with wam, and then get cleared by beasty without getting a kill, and woulda definitely been called teaming
2. fight wam, and then get cleared by beasty without getting a kill
3. fight beasty and let wam and mlord fight it out in a "who kills their opponent first kinda wins it all" 2x 1v1style, which gives him the best chances to win, simply because there is no danger of being sniped by beasty.
It may seem suspicious, but only the most stupid option to take would have not been suspicious, and the decision he made simply gave him the best chances to win. This decision actually showcases why he is and deserves to be winner of this tournament.
That being said, FFA is never fair and is just supposed to be fun and entertaining. Expecting, or even implementing rules for fairness seems kinda stupid to me.
@@benjaminnagl6623 Go watch game 3, when puppy went all the way across the map to attack beasty after beasty attacked wam. There is no WAY puppy knows to make that move if they aren't teaming. It's completely obvious to any unbiased observer.
Just so everyone is aware, Wam wasn't make a lewd image with the towers/walls, if you look at the minimap it says OO2, as in Outback Octagon 2.
noticed when wam spotted beastyqt at 02:00 he texted: awesome, lmao? also: 16:45 take a look on the minimap and see how unnatural pappypaw goes with his troops first to the west and goes directly to the king. (ref has to check if he activated treason, otherwise its a clear evidence of cheating because he doesnt have that map information) regardless of the very obvious teaming in the beginning, its another proof that wam and puppypaw wanted to exterminate beasty before he could become a threat. (just a theory, but in context could make sense) But regardless: thanks drongo for the great hosting, and the good evenings
I saw another person comment this and if you look back, puppy’s knights actually werent going for the king, they were going towards beastys base. However, on their path there, they found his king running away. If you watch closely, the knights are not locked onto the king, meaning he didn’t click for the knights to attack the king, likely because he didn’t see it till it was right in front of him.
@40:48 lol. Same shit in this match. Beasty gets sandwiched by wam and puppy (although don got the kill, it was literally outside his base). Then Don gets sandwiched by brothers and gets eliminated. Then brothers goes for Anotand while sharing resources. (The only reason why puppy got back to kill Wam's vills is probably because whole world was watching them?, and drongo himself even said at @42:20 “reluctantly killing the villagers of his brother”). How obvious do you wanna be of teaming? Twin brothers: Yes.
Anotand even gave up on attacking puppy because Wam won’t let it happen lol. I was a fan of Puppy but honestly the brothers killed the fun out of this series in finals. To top it off, they probably were playing from the same room as well. For instance, look at rest of the players, they were continuously battling against every other player while twin brothers were almost attacking same person at any time in this game.
To be fair, they did have small battles with each other, but personally I did not see any intent of killing each other.
I disagree with drongo’s comment at the end, yes the games were entertaining until game 3 of finals.
TL:DR: There should be a way to ensure players are not communicating other than via in-game chat; maybe a Discord call where all microphones must not be muted.
This series is amazing, I am absolutely looking forward to Season 3, that is, as long as Wam and Puppy play it honestly.
You may call all that ganging on Beasty strategy to take down the strongest opponent, but I haven't seen Wam or Puppy gang up against one another even when one of them was clearly the biggest threat.
PUPPY destroyed Wam trading in the middle in finals. Wam retaliated. They were suss during first games with all of their naps, but in finals definitely tried to kill each other
@@jan-bo When it did not matter, wam01 could not win, when they did fight the outcome would not of changed anything. wam01 always targetted beasty - go watch the games. Beasty even called him out in one of the rounds.
Game 23 puppy comes from across the map and trys to get the kill on Beasty along way to go for the kill.
Then game 24 was dumb - two players just sitting there whilst one persons army was across the map???
Game 25 was sus, basically puppy and wam01 picking on beasty with Don in the mix somewhere there.
I mean, one could simply send a message on the phone or something. It is hard to stop it completely
@@RyanMoreau beasty started on puppy in final game. Even puppy was What the hell dude you got 2 players near you and you go for me. Stop being delusional beasty fan
@@gratka8301 yes that's because of previous games
that was a freaking great tournament! watched every game here on YT from first to last second, thank you so much drongo and your whole team. and huge props to all the players, they are all amazing. thanks every single person making this event happen.
The chat at 1:20:16
Puppy: If wam wins I win
ML: ik. as you want
Puppy: Am I allowed to not attack?
ML: dunno
Puppy: It feels a bit dirty
Wam0: I won’t win just attack me
Puppy: if I attack them you will
ML: ahah
ML: I think he’s holding
Puppy: not if I attack him
ML: Ye. I think you will kill su
Wam0: yeah but it’s 500 dollars worth chat malding. Idk.
Don't play AoE4, just watch Drongo a lot. These last 2-3 games sure looked and felt like there were teams. I had to talk myself into watching the last 90 minutes of this one. Everyone knew the brothers had won.
I am in the same boat as you. I don't play AOE4, but I come from original AoE/AoE2 days (Gaming Zone). It's obvious what's going on and the comments here back up my suspicions.
I think the next octagon should be anonymous as possible. Thats the only way to keep people from targeting someone else just based on scared of their skill level
Hmmm..... They probably intentionally chose to show names, and I can see why.
1. Live spectating. As a viewer you're going to have players you're rooting for so I think it's important that we know who players are.
2. Cheating. It probably makes things worse if people check streams or have coms because they'll be the only people with that information.
3. Strategy: it removes balancing mechanics and strategy like trying to prevent someone from winning, or by shooting for a play that will benefit you (perhaps helping kill someone that's above you in score, or not killing someone with a wonder because one of the other players is a more serious threat to you in points).
4. Social value. Players having beef with other players can also be good for spectatorship.
Overall it would be a more fair show of skill but potentially more vulnerable to cheating, a lesser viewer experience, and more snow ball prone/less strategic.
I am a big Beasty fan so it is disappointing how things happened. And I wouldn't complain about an investigation into if puppy and wam were playing fairly (I haven't reviewed past clips and what not) but FFA is partially about the social dynamics and it's perhaps a necessary evil.
maybe they could require final 8 to stream their keyboard and screen to admin like a behind the player view... so they know there's no communication and then overlay the real names on the stream.. maybe even include the player streams on the tournament stream in tiny boxes 4 on each side... only problem is someone could do a movement pattern with their scout in front of each player to signal who they are and find their partner if they really wanted to collude... but at least they wont know who everyone else is
@@ChaseAnderson5k Drongo as a commentator could know it and say this to viewers. Once said, we could know who is which color while players still didn't know it as clearly as it was so far.
@@michal4736 it's possible yes. But I think it requires making all of the players change their names, and then messaging them all on them during the lobby. For a multi day event that's pretty tedious. And that doesn't address the other problems like cheating.
I was really enjoying this tournament until watching these last two games. Puppy and Wam were clearly playing together and only attacking each other when they were forced to like building a wonder. Players need to be anonymous, with as many rules in place to prevent teaming. Very sad to see it end this way after 25 games. Great job Aussie though with your commentary.
Really disappointing finish to an otherwise great series. This game PROVES they had private comms. (16:30 - 17:10) Watch Puppypaws army movement. No king ability used.
Indeed. Just like at the end when Puppy deleted his wonder but nobody destroyed him when they were in his base, even if he was at 1st place in the tournament. It felt like everybody gave him a free pass for the win, or am i wrong?
@@HausOfMorgoth They know that they will have a hard time getting rid of Ourks wonder without the 300 pop from puppy and since puppy isn't a threat to anyone in the tournament anymore they let him live. If they kill him they get 1 point. If they let him live to get rid of the other wonder they can go for more than 1 points in this game.
Well, Wam's timing on that surround was on point, some might say weird.
Fitting that the last game had so many wonders. Had a laugh at Marinelord for not doing the basic duty of putting a wall around his wonder and Don malding in disbelief at that.
35:55 Drongo small PP!!!!! hahahha
Just an idea for season 3 - give double points for killing the current point-leader during the finals (i know that might lead to bullying in a sense but what happened to beasty just because they are scared of him isn't better either). And make the last game give double points, all the 0 points players didn't have a intensive to play anymore, getting a 16 point game is almost impossible especially on Megarandom. In the end I think this would create more drama and make the finals less akward. Also since I haven't watched live, players need to see the scoreboard before every finals Match.
i think player bounty should be a thing for sure.
I think puppypaw’s transport ship loss may have been the single largest loss of resources in the tournament so far (excluding wonders).
The only way to stop this "sibling teaming" is before the season starts Puppy and Wam play a best of 3 1v1 whoever wins is entered into the tournament. Then during the tournament everyone's names are hidden.
Might sound unfair but after this season there clearly is a conflict of interest having 2 brothers playing together
that is ridiculously unfair to the point of being a nonstarter (in my humble opinion-- i don't find it unreasonable to disagree with me here). if they qualify, they should get to play. change the rules however necessary to make it work. having a rule that only applies to two entrants and no one else directly because of who they are just feels... undemocratic, or something. anti-meritocratic. anti-competitive. something like that. but yeah, iono how one might change the rules to reduce the conflict either.
@@MVPhurricaneI know right lol, imagine that in any other sport where its common to have brothers or sisters compete in the same sport, tournaments and for the same titles. And why stop there? Your childhood friend that you grew up with since you were both 2 who is basically like a brother to you? well, only one can play! how about cousins? parents? and so on. It just gets silly
Not even close to being "the only way". Literally in the 2nd half of your comment you listed a way: everyone's names are hidden
Beasty went full on Octagon 2: this time it's personal.
I love the energy, the organization, and the sheer passion behind Outback Octagon, but i'm on the verge of losing any faith in OO3 if the Puppy/Wam team isn't brought to justice.
Wam and Puppy brotherhood is a problem to the competition.
completely agree
Nahh
Absolutely agree, it was blatantly obvious across a few games they were avoiding each other
I disagree. They never teamed up on anyone like other players did, and they only very briefly shared that gold node until puppy noticed.
If anything i think they miss opportunities to kill each other for points, or sometimes miss an opportunity to gank another player together for fear of being accused of teaming.
Not a problem imo. They followed the rules.
Honestly, Drongo, I love the tournament but at the end it was marred by Puppypaw and Wam teaming up. It's just clear that they colluded with each other, intentionally or not.
If its not intentionaly then its not teamming. Lol. Its ffa buddy. Alot of things happens
@@gratka8301 I bet without Wam Puppy got not chance to win any of these fffa.
@@g3prataksha78 well, for me it's pretty bold opinion after puppy won both octagons. If he only win the last, then MAYBE I could atleast think it migh be possible, but both octagons? That's too much.
35:54 look at the chat xD xD xD
That was overlay from Szalami's screen, right? :D
@@NikhilSonii Exactly xD
What a blast this season was. I don't really enjoy the meta-strategy aspect of it though. An idea for next season: disable in-game chat, and make the players anonymous (but include some sort of overlay so the spectators do know who the players are).
In the previous game, Wam01 and 1puppypaw decided not to attack each other and excuses on how attacking neighbors is detrimental were made. This game Wam01 directly attacks Beasty? This feels like teaming, or at the very least, colluding.
Could be that beasty being the topG is harder because no one wants to 1v1 him in an FFA. But yes next year I hope we don’t see guys doubleing the better players out of fear. That’s just bleh
I think the map plays a huge difference. In the last one they had a river acting as a natural border with only one nearby crossing. Also Beasty was already weaker because of Dons towerrush. We have seen people go for the weak in a lot of games from everyone. A lot of people die in the end to 2-3 people with knights from everyone in their base.
@@mauriceweber9840 what you said is right but they are teaming on beasty and puppy wam are 100% teaming see all the final games you will know.
@@johnspartan8312 I did watch them and in my opinion they were not teaming. However I played the game for a total of about 10 hours so my opinion doesn't matter anyways. I just enjoy watching AoE4 FFAs.
@@mauriceweber9840 lol that explains why.
Watching match after 1 year you might see the difference.
I wonder if a system where you have a random target (bonus points if they die before you) and/or a random ally could mix things up in an interesting way. But i guess itd be complex from a specating perspective (since everyone has different targets and stuff).
Put this comment at top! please, Everybody!
two brothers, odd behavior, beast gets short stick... feelsWeirdMan
Yep, i felt that too brother. That was kinda sneaky. I mean, since game 4 puppypaw shoul've been targeted to stop him from winning easily but felt like a plot against the beast.
I mean, he had two neighbors competing for his king, and he went off to lure in a third guy in.
@@Maradiaga23 That's exactly what puppypaw did in the previous game but his brother didn't even touched him.
@@luciusnorman last game the situation was more like a triangle than a sandwich. Also, MLord and Wam were fighting each other from time to time, and Puppy was very heavily fortified, Mlord and Wam couldn't team against puppy because that's against the rules, so it was sort of a Mexican standoff. On top of that, just like this game, players have felt a bit aimless not knowing what to do.

The wild and misfortunate tale 🅁🄴🄻🄰🅃🄸🄽🄶 Beasty, Don and 🅃🅁🄸🄰🄽🄶🄻🄴🅂
Game 23: Three players, Beasty, Wam0, and Don, spawn together in a close quarters 🅃🅁🄸🄰🄽🄶🄻🄴 with ML a full map distance away. Beasty begins the first fight with his neighbor Wam0 [10 min]. After fighting Wam0 for a the next 10 minutes, Wam0 is essentially done. In the last 2 minutes of this fight however, ML sends a small group of cavalry not to his neighbor, but all the way across the map (it takes 2 full minutes to get there) and snipes first blood and dips. A few seconds later, a group of horsemen from Puppy is sent on a 4 minute journey across the map towards sacred and a weakened Don and Beasty. By the time they arrive, Beasty is in yet another conflict, now with Don, and is sniped by Puppy's horsemen. The horsemen dip, following, and eventually sniping Dons fleeing king shortly after. Puppy wins big in the most uncontested ending in OO history.
Game 24: Three players, Wam0, puppy, and ML spawn together in a close quarters 🅃🅁🄸🄰🄽🄶🄻🄴 and now Beasty is a quarter of the map away. Beasty and his neighbor again start the first fight [15 min]. Meanwhile, a new 🅃🅁🄸🄰🄽🄶🄻🄴 spawn variant forms, one that is 🄸🄽🅃🄴🄶🅁🄰🄻 to the fate of the entire game. The ever powerful, coveted and controversial 𝕋𝖗𝖎𝖆𝖓𝖌𝖑𝖊 𝖔𝖋 𝕃𝖔𝖛𝖊 emerges. Wam0, Puppy, and ML don't attack each other until 𝟜𝟘 𝕄𝕀ℕ𝕌𝕋𝔼𝕊 of villagers gathering next to each other in each others base, even while Puppys army, who is once again, half way across the map in beasty's base, trying to take advantage or snipe a weakened Beasty, who has been in yet another >10 fight with his neighbor that he's just about to close out - and again misses another first blood. The state of the game is 🄰🄻🄴🅁🅃🄸🄽🄶 to even Drongo and the audience alike, but the controversy is apparently dismissed or justified on the terms of its members being in a very legendarily unique situation -- the never before seen (by judges apparently) 'close quarters 🅃🅁🄸🄰🄽🄶🄻🄴 spawn'.
Game 25: Three players, Beasty, Wam0, and Don, are now back to game 23's situation - spawned together again in guess what? That's right! A close quarters 🅃🅁🄸🄰🄽🄶🄻🄴! Now Puppy is a quarter of a map away. Will Beasty, Wam0 and Don imitate the last game and create their own controversial 𝖙𝖗𝖎𝖆𝖓𝖌𝖑𝖊 𝖔𝖋 𝖑𝖔𝖛𝖊 together? Will they get to farm in each others farms, chop trees together, maybe have the villagers pat each other on their 𝖇𝖚𝖓𝖙𝖎 𝖇𝖔𝖙𝖙𝖔𝖒𝖘 as they walk past each other for 40 mins? No. Beasty and his neighbor start yet another first fight [off camera ~10:09]. But they aren't alone. Beasty finds himself in the 🄶🄽🄰🅁🄻🄸🄴🅂🅃 3 v 1 within 5 minutes, involving two of the previous game’s ℂ𝖔𝖚𝖓𝖈𝖎𝖑 𝖔𝖋 𝕃𝖔𝖛𝖊 members, wam0 and puppypaw (who's again sending horsemen to snipe Beasty who is again, already in a conflict) and Beasty gets killed at 17:02. As in game 23, Dons king is killed by members of this 𝕃𝖔𝖛𝖊 ℝ𝖊𝖕𝖚𝖇𝖑𝖎𝖈 shortly after [20:02]... again. Members of the council don't seriously attack each other for the next 25 minutes [44:32] and even agrees to share gold with one another at 40:11, even as PuppyPaw strolls 5 great bombards, 2 mangonels and an army through firing range of ~45 of defenseless and isolated wam0 villagers 40:23 (one mangonel eventually is pulled, takes makes a single shot at the villager, and the rest are chased out by horsemen and archers. ~1/4 of the villagers are lost). The council then later holds a quick 𝔻𝖊𝖑𝖊𝖌𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓 𝖔𝖋 𝔸𝖕𝖕𝖆𝖗𝖊𝖓𝖙𝖑𝖞 𝕁𝖚𝖘𝖙𝖎𝖋𝖎𝖊𝖉 𝕃𝖔𝖛𝖊 in the chat [1:20:15], looking for clarification on if PuppyPaw really has to fight another member or if he can just let another member win. At this moment, by a twist of fate or odd superstition, the original council of love from the previous game have form their magnum opus -- a perfect, sturdy, full map 𝕃𝖔𝖛𝖊 𝕋𝖗𝖎𝖆𝖓𝖌𝖑𝖊. Three players -- nay -- three beasty-less vertexes equilateral to each other once again.... Coincidence? Natural order? Or perhaps, a calculated arrangement to display domination? Maybe a cultic reference to the back of US Dollar bills? Or a worship practice of the ancient Egyptian Ra, in an attempt to grant favor for more DLC from Relic? I'll let you decide.
Now I'm not really sus believer at all, I don't think there is any collusion or bad faith plays personally. BUT. Coincidence/bad luck or crazy collusion, as an observer, this is WILD.
More 🄰🄻🄴🅁🅃🄸🄽🄶 to me, is what is the moral here? Is local first blood cursed? Is eco booming in your other two neighbors bases the new strat? Is sending horsemen into outer space to snipe a weakened Beasty and then follow up with a weakened Don the new meta? Are 🅃🅁🄸🄰🄽🄶🄻🄴🅂 OP? Do they justify open and obvious 🅃🅁🄴🄰🅃🄸🅂?
I'm not saying there was teaming but... clearly preference.
Thanks Drongo and all participating players for entertaining the AoE4 community with this great series, appreciate the time and efforts
And we’ll be waiting for S3 ;)
20:35 : After puppy kills Donartie, Maw asks in chat "Why did you go out?" "I was killing his units" "And you moved outta the tc"
Puppy responded "Pretty sure I get it either way"
Is this not pretty evident of them teaming? It's been pretty clear that hey have been teaming most of this series. Really should be a retroactive punishment here
wam is saying he is killing puppy's units and asking me why i hopped out of the tc before it burned down
So basically wam was attacking don Artie, then puppy came to steal the kill and wam started attacking puppy instead of don. This is because if wam kept attacking don, puppy could have more units and take the king kill himself. So once wam started attacking puppy, don for some reason jumped his king out and it some how died to puppy. That’s why I wam was asking “why did you get out of the tc” and puppy was telling wam he would have got the kill reguardless of dons king jumping out, as puppy would’ve killed wams army.
Puppy sends his horse army to pick off Beasty's king, but he never spent the 400g to use the king's vision ability... more fishy business.
That’s because puppy never actually sent his knights to the king, but rather they were just going in the direction of where the king was. That’s why they didn’t immediately lock on and charge the king. Besides puppy didn’t get that kill anyways
@@thatfrenchpinnapple2252 Right, and that is exactly what would happen if his brother said "Hey puppy, come get Beasty's king in the top left of the map". He would generally send his horsemen into the area (since he doesn't have exact coordinates) until he found the king, and then lock on as soon as he was out of the fog of war, which is exactly what happened. It doesn't matter if he didn't get the kill, it is still be cheating if his brother was on voice chat trying to help him secure first place over Anotand.
@@Drew_H. I mean, it’s skeptical and a bit pushy of accusation, but that’s your opinion and you are totally entitled to it. I personally didnt see that play by puppy as cheating, or anything more than coming across a runaway king while patrolling with his knights. The judges may think differently and that’s up to them 🤷🏼♂️
@@thatfrenchpinnapple2252 Right, which is why I called it fishy and not blatant cheating. It certainly could have been chance, and there is no way to prove otherwise. But in a series where collusion between the brothers at other times IS blatant, it isn't a far fetched conclusion. It's all subtle, and most everyone likely did a bit of cheating themselves. Even Beasty in that very play moved his king in a way that greatly increased the chances of the kill going to Don, which, if blatant, would have been against the rules. But, done subtly enough, nobody can prove otherwise.
@@thatfrenchpinnapple2252 hes a beasty fan. Leave him with his delusions
Loved the tourney, liked the maps from the first one a little more with the island maps but with the king and the starting scout that complicates it so I see why you used some pre-made maps this time. Seems like the new rule set fixed a ton of problems from the first tourney but the 2 main problems I see and am yet to think of a solution to are Wam and Puppypaw basically always passively teaming and the potential that people are in a voice call together. I guess the only solution is to have all participants have a forward facing camera recording their face and audio.
1. @aussie_drongo you should absolutely make a video replaying the winners of best moments..... that would be awesome
2. This brother thing is mighty lame. Lots of weird things going on and others are getting short changed because of it. I get they're both really good but they absolutely benefit from each others presence. If I'm beasty, I'm not participating anymore until its sorted out because he was the clear loser in multiple games because of those 2.
They both are good enough to get into this tournament and also get into finals. You wont let one of them play because they are Brother? Lol. If they thought beasty is a real threat they just focus him. Whats wrong in that? There was not a single one OBVIOUS teamming on him if you get rid of biased being beasty fanboy you will see that clearly. All of these teories are just bullshit.
That was amazing tournament Drongo. Cant wait for 3rd instalment! But man, i feel sorry for Beasty. The ammount of gangbangs he experienced is inmeasurable. Also brothers playstyle is kinda sticky for me.
Working on a more strict and explicit ruleset on teaming for Octagon 3 would be appreciated. Non-aggression isn't defined well by the current ruleset but it's incredibly impactful when neighbors can just safely boom and then collectively curbstomp a player across the map.
i watched all the games that where posted here in yt. Wam and Puppy where teaming a lot of games. The next one has to be with anonimacy of the names. And some control over the streams.
It is strange. Generally when there is a threesome in a base. The 2 outsiders generally contest each other for the kill. This gives the base player (3rd guy, the guy getting attacked) a bit of a breathing room. However blood is thicker than water.
However the main thing is there isn't really a solution for it that would keep everyone happy.
You know, thinking about how to prevent some of the runaways that happened this Octagon for the next one, a simple rule adjustment might be to award +1 point if you kill a player with more kills than you. Would encourage people to jump on players who get kills, making going for early kills or trying to runaway very risky.
This 100%
You know you've done a good job when people like me (who doesn't play AOE) watching outback octagon. you've done a great job at hosting Drongo, and to the players who put on a wonderfull show. 👏
Thanks for this series Drongo. Been loving it. Keep up the austism!
Wam and puppy being brothers seems like a conflict of interest to the competition and shows in this game and the last 2…
Massive conflict of interest
facts, and Beasty was at the wrong end of it multiple times
Beasty may have got double teamed or the player closest to him given license to attack by the brother, but despite that Don & Anotand went into this game with a shot at winning and had it taken away from them. Banter has its value in ffa but there was money on the line (and the integrity of the comp moving forward). Wam went into the finals with as much chance as anyone but once Puppy had a lead to defend it was clear that his priorities changed. I hope neither of them are allowed to compete again, because until the last 3 games this was fantastic content.
@@wbunnage amen.
Wam said himself - “if puppy wins, I win.”
@@kohnjack When did he say that?
I just saw puppy saying "If Wam wins, I win" (probably because wam had to few points to contest the tournament win)
However, I do agree that there was teaming to some extent, making the last few games not as enjoyable to watch.
Maby the next Octagon could have hidden names so the players don't know who's who.
40:30 OH COME ON, THIS IS JUST BLATANT TEAMING!!!
Great series drongo! Outback octagon is by far my favorite series so far. The chaos,, the drama, youre casting, its all perfect!
Thank you and microsoft for this, i hope there is more to come.
I do hope that puppy and wham didnt betray the other players to much. It would be a shame if players would team up before the games. It clearly works, if trust is broken its hard to connect. Good luck on youre next series! Looking forward to it. Also good luck on all the accusation stuff, i can imagine for you this is not a fun position to be in
Epic series, well done dude! I haven't paid any attention to AoE ever, just happened to click on a video of yours that popped up and shit, 25 videos later.. You made this Drongo, thanks for the entertainment!
Gooday Drongo
This is an absolute action movie. Felt like I was watching a historical empires clash movie with so talented players.
Can’t wait for outback octagon 3 (hope there is an announcement for it).
I must say that puppypaw got lucky few times for his sneaky king kills. As for beastyqt, unlucky.
One thing to mention, Drongo you are the GOAT commentator for AOE -despite you missing in few kings kills-😅
Anyway I had great time.
I play this game casually, single player campaign and skirmish only but this is a real joy to watch. I learn some things and your commentary is amazing
1. Make the players anonymous as to where only casters know who is whom.
2. Monitor each player so it is clear that “twins” aren’t talking off the game chat irl.
Outback Octagon 3, waiting 👍
Well done making this a great OO! Designing rules to make a game fun to watch is no mean feat, and this was a great success!
Just finished watching this after discovering you a few weeks again! I cant wait already for Outback Octagon 3 with all the newer civs!
How was that not teaming against beasty?? 3 vs 1 and they all attack at the same time like come on Drongo?
To be fair, you're allowed to king snipe. I do feel like everyone targeted Beasty all the time and for some reason nobody ever went hard on puppy ever even as prior champion and point leader. But I'm that scenario I do think wams move was the correct move, and within the rules. The problem I have is more with the pattern of not really attacking each other. (Assuming it was a pattern - I wasn't paying attention earlier to puppy and wam). Also why does Don arty all in Beasty so hard whenever he's near him. It never goes well for don it just cripples both of them.
@Chase Anderson it worked great for me this game tho, I got the 3 points I needed to make an extra $500 and potentially $1000 if somebody other than ML had won this game
To be fair, Don was fighting Beasty from the start. Secondly, Beasty only lost to Don that hard because he spent the entire early game harassing Puppypaw. You could tell Beasty was tilted (with good reason) from previous games. Even with Don attacking him and towering him the entire time, he just kept sending his knights to harass Puppypaws base.
I also think the tournaments rules are too loose. Like, players don't know if/when they can team sometimes. The admin needs to set hard rules on what can and can't be done. There are far too many grey areas which lead to the complaints that happened in both of the Outback Octagon Finals this year and last year. They also go too hard on punishment when they do see an infringement. For a small tournament like this, just saying they don't get the point for that is enough ya know, or that point goes to the person they infringed (obviously need solid rules to outline that though).
We are seeing double salt and honey trade networks coming out from our Ottoman players today... A change in the meta indeed...
I have to wonder if this being Nomad really brings anything to tournament besides a slower start to the action and unfair spawns. I know all the talk is about teaming right now, and rightfully so, but if players spawned equidistant with more balanced starting resources I can't help but think it would be more fun to watch. Anyways still enjoyed OO2 overall and looking forward to the next one. It's getting better each time!
i think nomad should be true nomad with diplomacy tbh where teaming during the game is allowed but only one can win and points are only awarded for winning a game. that setting incentivices backstabbing a whole lot more and also gives players spawning close another option than just failing together and instantly fighting. the way the tournament is right now they might aswell not play nomad.
has wam and puppy ever goes against each other in the beginning in the whole series ? sus
Not gonna lie, that timing on the surround from Puppy and Wam01 on Beasty kinda sus, especially on Don, they both attacked practically at the same time. Weird.
Hey DRONGO, very new fan of the whole casting thing. My first video I watched you cast was viper winning some tournament and I was fuck that guy is good. And you helped me be a one stop viewer to now a kick back and cheer beasty and zalami on cause the viper don’t ply much aoe4.
Anyways thanks man you dumb this game down a lot for beginners and it’s super fun to hear and see the enthusiam you have within you of the competitive scene in aoe4. ✌️
As a rookie viewer I accidentally watched outback octagon 2 before 1 and I loved 2 a lot more with the king etc. it was so fun to have you share casting with Lidacore and the others they are great.
Can we have a 2v3 the viper and beasty vs 3 up and comer players. (The kid) and OURK and someone else. It was be really interesting to see how beasty and viper go at a disadvantage..
Now you have to make playlists for each of the outback octagons
Do the twins play at same location or talk not on game chat? This event is awesome, next season only one entry per family please.
I thought the rules early on had a pretty good impact on the teaming issue but unfortunately the finals with puppy and wam brought them all back. The amount of times they avoided fighting eachother and sometimes even targeted the same players at the same time.. sometimes crossing the map to do so.. hard not to see it any other way.
The problem is that i dont know how to avoid this without excluding one of them from the tournament which i dont want either. I just want so see fair competion but dont know how we get there. I mean, what, make a rule that they have to be in separate rooms, no contact between eachother with anonymous names? Lol that cant be enforced.
Congrats to puppy in any case, hopefully someone smarter than me can figure out some more ways to avoid the quiet teaming for OO3
you could balance it that the names would be anonymous for the players (also colours), not sure how this could be made bullet proof, but for oo3 with the help of mods possible. this is imo. essential for a tournament like this
@@Shiro.1291 I think Drongo could select colours for each match and secretly inform each player (minutes before the match) and then inform us via the stream who is playing with what colour. Of course Wam and Puppypaw could still tell each other but that's on them.
@@billypilgrim1 i thought more about it and they also need to be on stream with monitor(s), audio and camera, not for everyone but you need a referee to just keep an eye on them. if they are anonymous and cant communicate within teamspeak or whatsapp for example it is "safe". also it is forbidden to go to the toilet for example while alive, extreme yes, but if you want a real ffa, this seems the best executable way. what do you think about it?
Honestly, with Wam and puppy there is no way to stop teaming with those two, they need to have a 1v1 before the series and whoever wins gets to play, I'd much rather only have 1 of them than this crap again.
Also just my own bias but if either of them are in the next OO I hope everyone teams them from the start of the game
I think this tournament needs the anonymous name mod. Also, ngl, the king got old real fast. More often than not, the person who won the fight usually didn't get the kill on the king due to it running towards some other players base who had boomed all game, and they'd get the easiest lucky snipe of their lives. If I was a player, losing those points like that to someone who did none of the work would piss me off majorly. At least with static win conditions, you have to go out of your way to earn the snipe kill.
I think at a certain point having an "unfortunate spawn" is inexcusable. I get the whole point of random and for casual pvp it works just fine. But a tournament of this caliber should level things a bit more because as someone else mentioned, we saw some players consistently get bad spawns. In addition, making players anonymous only fixes half the problem. Players can still make a truce with communication outside the chat. It would only help protect those on the hit list like Beasty. I really think there needs to be a solution to that. At a minimum, anonymous players and evenly spaced out spawns to start.
i enjoyed watching this and you do a great job commentating, but watching the way puppy and wam played the last 3 games is infuriating and this can NEVER happen again.
The puppy and wam thing could be pretty historically accurate for feudal empires! Brothers that inherited different holdings by marriage could end up finding themselves on the opposite sides of a conflict between their respective counts or dukes. They would still fight each other, but never fully commit. Or each waits for the other to trip up and then backstabs them.
The final was over in minute 20:00. And Ourk baking out after Puppy's wonder made zero sense somehow...
But overall, they handed the win to PP
Looking forward to the next tournament now, teamgames would be awesome though!
Great game again. Thanks for the mild distraction & background noise during work and or shores around the house for the last few weeks! See you in Outback Octagon 3
F for beasty. Had a blast to fan for you haha
What a comeback from beasty last game
After binge watching the entirety of OO1 and OO2 I can say this is easily the most entertaining AOE4 tournament there is. Awesome job! I can't wait for OO3! However, it definitely needs some small tweaks.
Points should be 4 for a win and 1 for each eliminated player. Simple. Having 4 for a win plus 1 for each person remaining at the time of the start of the win condition plus an additional point if you kill said person during the win condition is confusing and inflates points. This allowed PP to win with that awful 13 point game when ML won 2 games and generally played better imo.
Teaming needs to be addressed. It was obvious PP and Wam were working together.
The king is WAY better than landmarks. Transport ships and king running is fine. If you are attempting a king kill and not accounting for them to run via land or water that is on you. With a simple strat, you can catch the king easily.
Amazing tournament, congrats to PP for securing the bag even though he cheesed OO1 with the way too high kill points and teamed in the second. Thanks for coming to my OO ted talk.
Did don finnish school? Like why would you attack beasty when your biggest contender for 1st spot, puppy, is his other neighbour? Does he understand basic math?Just kill him first and you still have a chance.
But it kinda looks like everybody's after beasty, no mather the points.
Then we have the two canadian brothers who, once again, weirdly attack at the same time. Wham even needed to cross the lake for this manouver but they still manage to hit at the same time.
I liked this series until the finals but out of the 5 finals, 4 games were sadly just bad.
do you have a brain? do you understand basic math that me getting 3 points for first blood here made it so I got extra money for finishing third? When my spawning location is unlikely to win. Also if puppy or wam wins (which was likely) I would've finished 2nd
100% teaming and yes the point that they are not even trying to target the point leader is true as well.
Teaming against point leader is fair game, cause it should be skills and Improvisation. But teaming against a non leading player with bad spawn is just unfair and stupid.
Look at the chat, they where 100% teaming, wam protest against his brother, for sniping his kill, in a suspicious way.
What a OO2 season. This was very entertaining💜 Thanks for casting drongo! Amazing work
I'm not the biggest Beasty fan, but i think the finals games were really biased to him, each game Puppypaw or Wam attacked him without attacking each other. They are brothers it's alright, but it feels slighty like teaming for me, i mean look at 20:10, clearly they refuse to attack each other.
Anyway can't wait for Outback Octagon 3 !!
Thank you Drongo, and everyone else involved. Great games!
Szalami getting more cash rewards then the champion Puppy 😂
7:07 the fact that Drongo paused and did not say "that's what she said", made me laugh even more
hhahaha that random drongo small pee pee in the chat
kinda loved when then chat section got "hijacked" around 36 mins. kinda heartwarming too honestly.
Don Artie had a crazy spot first TC spot resourse-wise
I've said this on like the last three videos so sorry for the spam but maybe if you're awesome enough and available enough to make another brilliant series, Drongo, the scoring could be:
If you kill a player, gain 2 points.
If that player has killed another player, gain 1 point extra per kill they have. It would massively incentivize killing strong players.
35:50 Very interesting message for Drongo in the chat there
god I love these players lololol
The brothers are quite clearly colluding.
this format of ffa is great. thanks for great games and casting
cant wait for the next series love this show!
btw don was malding hard :D
been a pleasure watching every single game, keep the good work up.
the octagon been amazing and i love every second of it, everyone is so amazing and it's just very epic to watch them play
1:16 lolz my money gotta be on Ourk from those spawns! If he's not scouted out he's boomin!
Nah the final 3 games have all been very trash in this otherwise great tournament. Allowing Puppy and Wam to play together is wack af. Some rules definitely need a rework as well because it feels like everyone that actually plays the game is punished for it.
Thank God Wam and Puppy didn't win this game even though blatant favoritism from admins.
Please tell me there were others who noticed the words being put into Drongo's chat box during all this. From whoever he was chat sniping from.
Just watch minute 17, puppy knew the direction of beasty, hes knight was going to that direction!!!! without any scout or info he knew!!! should ban one brother even without name they can tell each other the direction
even if you team random people will back stab but brother wont!!!!!
Thank you and this had a much better point system than in Octogon 1, therefore better games.
Newbie here, watched most of the matches, loved it, especially that defense in game 6. What I didn´t like is the randomness which spells doom for some players caught in the middle, it should be down to skill, not random map placement.
Random spawns killed this tournament for me.
A lot if not the majority of games wer3 heavily influenced by bad spawns that messed people up and snowballed others
That last meme with 80 bunti just destroyed me 😂😂😂😂
Beasty turning into John Wick for Outback Octagon 3, or the next 1v1 Tournament for sure
This is my first game watching I think Pink and Red guy are kind of teaming.
Are they friends in real life ?
brothers
@@billypilgrim1 twins haha
I didn't knew this game is like 2 weeks ago
I love the blatent teaming against beasty every game. Also stop mentioning brothers @drongo no teaming is NO teaming. Competition period.... disgusting tbh. And yeah i
I do really like the Outback Octagon but I think names shouldn't be revealed. Maybe I like Beastyqt too much, but it seems like he is always teamed on.
