- Homemade banana wine without using yeast | Banana wine in 14 days | Coorg style banana wine recipe
Homemade banana wine can be made using any variety of ripe bananas, sugar and small amount whole wheat. Wheat is used for fermentation instead of yeast here. Wheat can also be replaced by rice or ragi( finger millet) but fermentation days varies.
Our homemade banana wine recipe is illustrated with simple procedure in this video. Why not try this recipe and check it out.
INGREDIENTS:
Ripe Bananas - 200 grms(Any variety can be used)
Sugar - 1 cup(250 grms)
Whole wheat - 2 tsp
Water - 3 cups( 750 ml, boiled and cooled)
Instructions to prepare wine:
1. Chop bananas into small pieces and add it into an air-tight container.
2. Add sugar, wheat, boiled and cooled water and cover the lid.
3. Keep the container in the dark place for 10 days. Stir once or twice in-between.
4. After 14 days, strain the contents into a vessel and transfer it into a glass container.
5. Cover the lid tightly and place it in dark place for another 4 days so that it will ferment well.
6. After 4 days, banana wine is ready to serve. The taste gets better as it ages. It can be stored up to 1 year, just make sure you use good fruits and boiled and cooled water in this wine making process.

can i just use a couple of grapes instead of whole wheat?coz i dont have wheat nor yeast.thanks.
As long as you don't remove or destroy the outer whiter layer of grape skin, as this is where the yeast is.
So if you use grapes remember once crushed or sliced grapes ferment the sugar inside the grapes mix with the yeast layer on the outside, ta da 😊 hope this helps.

There's one thing I'm curious about..alcohol is made by starch being broken down into alcohol and sugar right? I read somewhere that some ppl eat green bananas because they contain more starch. But since they contain more starch, does it mean green bananas can be used for wine?

@@BelindaDonohueeven if we use glass bottle, will it not explode due to pressure build up?
@@arunc4248 I use glass for lots of fermented drinks. It will if you leave it longer then what the recipe says or you leave it in the sun, but generally we have not had a problem.😊
In my opinion plastic for fermented foods is not safe. When you buy wine or kombucha is it in plastic? No. There are reasons.🤨
If fact we get a lovely ‘fizz’ with this banana wine. Kinda makes it feel a bit fancy😆
@@BelindaDonohue am with you on using glass jar, plastic is not gud at all. But my question is, can we leave the lid slightly open for the co2 to escape? Will outside air to go in spoil d wine?
@@arunc4248 I’m sure you can leave the lid off slightly for the 1st ferment. As for the 2nd ferment (when you re bottle) I am not sure. I haven’t tried this. We tightly close ours because we like the fizz.
You could ‘burn’ the bottles daily easily enough if you liked.🙂
