I admit I have never had the desire to own a Leica, but am sorry that your expectations and pleasure have been tarnished with the dust on sensor problem. Personally I feel as the camera has a fixed lens and this is a known problem this should have been checked for before offering the item for sale. All my cameras are @ 10 years old (Canon 60D, Pentax K5, Sony A6000, Fuji X-T1) and I get great pleasure from using the mirrorless ones with old lenses using an adaptor and focus peeking and taking the old Pentax out in adverse conditions with no worries of rain salt or sand (as I live on the Lizard, Cornwall, England.) I would derive no pleasure being out with a camera, especially an expensive one with the constant worry of dust specks I was unable to remove from the sensor with a blower. All 4 of my cameras are a pleasure to use for different reasons. I only take Jpeg and do no post processing. Suppose the X-T1 is my current favourite purely for the dials on the top. I even sometimes feel I am back in the old SLR days. Perhaps the purchase of a similar low cost elderly camera with few expectations (but some lovely forgotten pleasant surprises) and a return to simple basic photography would be worth a try. It sometimes helps to step back in time in this rapidly changing time, and especially in the pursuit of a hobby.
I agree with you sometimes simple and basic is best. Robert’s has offered to let me return the camera and they will look into timing and cost of cleaning. They have also offered to let me return for a full refund. I’m torn on what to do. I enjoy the simplicity of the camera but I worry about getting more dust in the camera. Right now it is a minor problem but it could get worse in the future. I have never shot a Fuji camera. I hope to try one in the future. Thanks for the comment.
