Ahhh thank you great tips I love hearing to stop waiting for the perfect time to use or wear something. My youngest daughter reminded me to go ahead and do things while I can and not to worry about the cost. She’s right after scrimping and saving for decades I decided to spend money on doing what I enjoy now! None of us is promised tomorrow. Anyway I try to be especially kind to others as I’ve needed a kind word very often and it means everything at times.

I have learned that just because I’m single, never married, no children, that does NOT mean that I’m lonely. Just because I’m working my shift at my busy grocery store, at a concert surrounded by 30,000 people or more, OR, with family or so called friends at a packed restaurant, that also does NOT mean that I’m not ALONE.

(This is my first time here.) Thirty-five years ago, after 20 years of marriage, I left my first husband. I was and am an introvert, but, even so, that first year was horrible. I had never lived alone in my whole life. My parents and sister (we had never been close) were not at all supportive -- they were Catholic, and I was the first divorce in three generations, on both sides (mother's side and father's side). For over 10 years, my ex and I had been great friends with three other couples, but when I left my ex, those friendships unraveled. However, in a year or so, I was just fine again. Five years later, I married again -- someone I didn't really love but he had lots of family. Yeah, that wasn't right -- LOL -- and three years later I left him (with no regrets). LOL And I didn't go through "that first year" again. This time I knew what to expect. //// I realized the other day that I've been living alone now for almost all of the past 35 years. I do get lonely for a brief while every day. I do get very lonely once in a while. But some bouts of loneliness are pretty normal, and those bouts aren't going to kill us (I think) as long as we're not very lonely all of the time every single day. //// I have had a great life (not without tragedies like everyone else). And I'm still having a very good life. And I think that's what really saves me. Every single day -- several times a day -- I am spontaneously grateful for my past and present life. The gratitude just wells up inside me. I have loved and been loved by people who literally changed my life just by knowing them for a while. I've had many wonderful experiences in my life. Having and raising children. Good men friends. A lot of traveling (when I was in my 20s). A great job (same employment for 30 years). Great coworkers. A lot of volunteering. Going to plays, musicals, theatre, concerts. Even the tragedies (just two examples: I was raped -- TWICE, my only daughter was murdered) -- they have made me a better person (I think). //// As I said, there are still times on some days when I feel so lonely that sometimes I cry. But, again, I am so very grateful -- every single day -- for having been born, for being alive, for the experiences in my life (even some of the bad ones) -- that I am doing well. I was a Hospice volunteer for 17 years (off and on), so, even though I am more than likely going to die alone, I am prepared and not afraid -- not thrilled at the thought of dying and death, but still prepared. //// Thank you, Louise, for you and your video blog. I think I'll stick around for a while. And I promise to NEVER write NEARLY this voluminously again. 🙂 I PROMISE.

@@FromStabletoHome.DiaryofMyBarn LLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL I've been told, all my life, that I "should write". Started in 9th grade (US) -- my 9th grade teacher told me that I should write, and it's never let up. Many people have told me that. All my life. That doesn't mean I need to take it out on innocent RUclips blogs. LOL And I DO know that brief is almost always better. And if people want a book, they'll read a book. On a most serous note: it is kills me that there are so many 65+ (both women AND men) who are SO lonely and who have no or little idea of how to navigate getting old. We are encouraged all our adult lives to save for retirement. But NO ONE prepares us for everything else related to old age. And, now, COVID and inflation have hardly made life easier. smh

My 17 year old is with me but out all the time and he's missing his brother and his dad is isn't giving him enough time or support him with driving lessons like he promised. I feel guilty as I can't afford things for him like that not a holiday for years for them yet ex goes away without them with partner every year.

    I couldn't function.
