      @@user-hs2hd7wp9g I don't understand how are they childish? I never looked at cars with American plates and thought "ugh this car looks like beaver" never. They are small and cover little space on the bumper often allowing more air into the radiator and intercooler and they don't make your front bumper looks stupid and nonaerodynamic. Font on them is also good looking not like European plates which are so into your face with big ugly looking letters. Every state has its own style plate which makes some of them even better looking. That is why American plates are better than standard European ones. If I could choose I would drive without front plate but I can't and that is why I have small american sized number plates on one of my cars

    • @koolyman
      @koolyman 5 лет назад +1

      @@Gizawar Your assumption is wrong. All USDM cars use motorcycle sized plates, and European countries have those too. So if the mounting point is too narrow they can add an appropriately sized plate in the correct European format. The large letter sizing is to ensure the plate is highly readable by ANPR systems in all weather conditions (if the car got stolen etc); unfortunately US plates are so small and gaudily stylised because no such practical considerations were taken.

    I'm surprised you didn't mention this in your video but a big reason so many BMW have a Euro plate is because of BMW's Euro Delivery program. You buy the car from a US dealer but go pick it up in Munich at the Welt Center and then drive it around Europe for a few weeks before putting it on a boat back to the USA. While there the car has full Euro plates front and rear, and when the car is put on the boat it clears customs with both plates still installed. The rear has to come off, of course, because you replace it with the USA plate. But unless you're in a state that requires matching F&R plates, there's no reason you can't just leave the front Euro plate in place. So it's not even an "accessory" that people are adding, it's the actual plate you use when you pick the car up in Germany. People just leave it on when they pick the car up from their US dealer after the car is delivered again stateside, either because it looks good or is a nice reminder of a very memorable Euro Delivery vacation with the car.

    European plates do look better because the cars were designed to fit them, and i also think the format of our plates lends itself better to be integrated into the design.
    They are also far sleeker and more „business“ looking than your plates, that do look a bit like comics with all the different colours and such.
    Over here, having front and rear plates is just the norm...so no matter how much better a car would look like without them, everyone has them, so you do not lose out on style compared to others.

So my uncle (my mom's brother) kept the British plate on the car until finally after a few months, a local cop said you've been back a while now I think it's time you remove your fancy English plate. You can get Euro plates in Australia, I have them on my car because the euro plates fit better on european cars than our different sized plates, especially on the front, as the standard plate is too tall to fit in the space without overhang, and slimline plates already cost extra...
    Only ours do not have the Blue band or country letters/letters each state reserved a series to use with them, in Victoria the V series is used for it and the state crest sits between the first 2 letters.
    They also make Japanese spec plates, for the same reason.

      Philip Anderson I’m pretty sure the Victorian ‘Euro-style’ plates have the blue band on the side, only with the Southern Cross on it (and VIC). But yeah there’s US-size/style plates and Japanese-style/size plates in addition to the Euro and standard Aussie ones.
      www.vplates.com.au/euro
      When grey import Skylines and the like were all the rage here, the old Aussie plates had to be bent to fit, so I can understand why you’d want the plates that fit the bumper cutout better.

My car was delivered to the states with the front German plate still glued on but I prefer a cleaner look so removed it when I got home and it now sits on my garage wall as a souvenir. @@hardcorehardo Look at the coupe Mercedes in the US. Because of the silly US plate design, it ends up with the most hideous plastic shroud on the rear bumper. The US plates are just not proportionate to the proportions of a car so they never look good. The more rectangular Euro plates are better. We use the same in South Africa. Either black on white or blue on white. Looks so good. These American ones make me sad.

    States around Australia sell plates that are the design of other counties (Euro style, US style, Japanese Style) that are fully legal.
    In fact some dealerships that sell BMW's, Audi's and other euro cars where I live , sell them with euro style plates.
    The euro plates specifically, where the euro star and country code are just say (3 state code) eg
    T
    A
    S

      I like that we do this honestly, for some cars our standard plates just look a bit off as they hang a bit too low or they're not wide enough. Getting a plate the same size as the plate the body of the car was designed for just looks better in my opinion.

    • @Ziogref
      @Ziogref 5 лет назад

      @@ruggjay agreed. I have white letters and a black plate (slim front, full size rear)
      Looks heaps better on the black plastic front
      Also I noticed a lot of euro cars have number plate brackets that are designed for euro plates, they look weird with stock standard aussie plates.

    I know we have Euro/JDM/USA style plates available here in Victoria Australia, and generally said the plates are different size and fit better on the cars they put them on with out needing to drill out new wholes for mounting the plates. An example would be euro on BMWs or JDM on a Skyline or even the USA plate on the Mustangs/Camaros that have only just started to be imported

      At unemployment, migrant camps and being occupied by the US since 45, then yes you are right lol.
      Also, I lived in America my whole life, how many euro plates have I seen? ZERO, not one. Euro plates in the US are really really rare, no one gives a fuck about little bitty Europe. That's why most educated Europeans move to AMERICA. LOL

    A lot of cars I used to see with European sized plates are European, and there was once a company that made Euro sized duplicates of your DMV issued license plates, and in Puerto Rico it was such the demand, the DMV there started issuing official Euro sized plates, being the only US jurisdiction to do so.

    Did you notice, that you’ve put the back plate to the front?
    That little thingy in the middle, the TÜV Plakette, is supposed to be on the back side. It shows, when you’re supposed to get your car checked. It’s required every 2 years in Germany.
    Also, on the Front you can find a thing in the same shape where the logo of the state is (Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, etc.) showing.

    In states that does NOT require front plates, to cover the license holder, bumper space or the holes, people will put sport teams plates or European plates according to the car manufacturer

    One other thing to note is I've seen people with temp euro plates under their regular North American plates here in Canada. When I worked at Mercedes benz, I found out more about this trend, if you buy a new car, you can go pick up your car in Europe and drive it in Germany. When your car is shipped back to North America after you're done zipping around the autobahn and Nuremberg ring, some people choose to leave the original Euro temp plates on (these look similar to regular Deutsch plates, except the country background color is red). However, since in my province you must have the official issued plates visible front and back, and you cannot have ANY other plate visible, they cover the Euro plates mostly with the BC plate, but leave the edges of the Euro plate sticking out. Would I do it? Not personally, but it's kind of a cool tribute.
