Im a beginner can you explain if i had a 6 or 7 card staight is it still just the same hand ranking as a regular 5 straight or say a flush with a pair would still be ranked as a flush ?
@@markamo2oo9 It's only five cards out of 7 that count. For example if your 7 cards are A2345KK this is a straight. The two Ks don't count for anything.
@@markamo2oo9 No it would be a split pot. As I explained earlier The Hand is the best 5 cards not 6 or 7. The Ace would be the 6th card and therefore would not count. A pair is a pair no matter how its made. If two different people have a pair, the pair made of higher value cards is the higher value one. I'm not sure what happens if the pair is the same, but I imagine it's something like a pot split
For the first scenario, the hand with triple 8s would win as 8 is higher than 7 (this is similar to how when two players have one pair, the pair that uses the highest cards wins e.g. a pair of aces would beat a pair of twos. In any scenario, highest cards wins). Similarly, for the second scenario, the hand that uses queens would win, as queens are higher than Jack's.
i only recently started playing poker so i already knew most of this but it you've never played poker before this video won't be helpful, you need to just learn the hands in order AND you HAVE to be paying full attention to recognise them and also think how likely is it that everyone has that hand as well?
no the responder here is incorrect, if the 5 cards in the middle equals the best you can have, then you have that, if the 5 in the middle is something no one can improve upon with their personal cards, then its a split
No, it does not matter if the cards are in your hand or on the table. What matters only is the number on the card. a pair of jacks will beat a pair of 10s for example. Aces are the most valuable
@@Daniel-gm4te I would love to see that hand as the odds of that are incredible but you would just have to choose the two highest psirs or you could get full house if you get three of a kind and a pair
only in a straight that Ace can be high or low otherwise Ace is always the highest value (Above Kings), in a straight Ace will only be low in A 2 3 4 5 straight (Also work in a straight flush), Ace will not be pair with any other value cards apart from Ace
So I was playing and 2 people got ace high straights but the ace on the table was off suit for the flush... Player 1 had JK (diamonds) suited and other player had JK off suit and the board was 4QT all suited to the JK (diamonds) and then it was 3 off suit and A off suit. Who wins? I am so confused.
Isn't it just the best 5 card hand you can make with your 2 hole cards and the 5 community cards? I.e, there's no particular significance to your hole cards. E.g., if the 5 community cards make a royal flush, my hole cards are A-A, and yours are 2-3, its still a split pot, right? (He talks about a "true" pair, with one in your hand vs a pair on the board; I don't get that distinction)
Indeed that is the case, but in terms of a heuristic for knowing what decisions to make as a game progresses, sets already presented solely by the community cards aren't really worth considering, since everyone has them in a sense, even if they end up not using them. As such, it's a lot more helpful to just take into account how *your* cards affect the game state at any given point in the game.
A true pair is that for example what is shown in the video. There is a pair of deuces (pair of 2's) on the table. It would be a 'true' pair if you would have one 2 and the other 2 is on the table.
@@paulfernandez3146 What about the other players ? 2-2 is on the table, no-one is holding 2 or any other pair, how comes I have pair with 3 and 4 in mu hand ?
No one ever explains what to do when people have similar or the same type of hand but not exactly. Which Full house beats which full house, when kickers coming to play, etc.
2 pair beats 1 pair you gotta understand that you never really only hvae 10 10 you alwys have the best 5 cards between yours, and the communtiy cards so for example imagine there is a 10 in the comunity you have a 10 and a ace in hand and i have a 10 and king you win, because we tie with the same pair, but then you have a bigger card in your 5 best cards (the ace) anotehr example imagine in the table there are 3 spades you and me have 2 spades, but you have the ace of spades and i have the 10 of spades, you win, because your flush as the highest card last example, imagine on the table are 5 diamonds and you have a pair of aces on your hand, one of spades and one of clubs. in that case your pair doenst count, you simply have a flush, because your 5 best cards are the flush, all fo the community cards i beat you if i have a higher diamond in my hand, if i dont, we tie and split the pot
Summary: a poker hand of any players consists of the best 5 cards combination. Thta's why you can have 2 pairs but not 3 (you'd need 6 cards for that) The best is the royal striaght flush all down to the high cards.. just google the hand ranks it's clear who wins when the players have diffrently ranked hands (like a pair vs trips, or a flush vs a striaght) it only gets trickier when 2 players or more have the same If no one has anything, the highest card wins (of the 5 cards that compose each players hand) do they have the same 5 highest cards as one another? split pot if you have 2 pair vs 2 pair, highest pair wins. The same? 2nd highest pair? The same? The 5th card, which will be the highest, breaks the tie. It's the same? Split pot In a flush the highest card of the suit breaks the tie. Or second highest.. or third.. In a straight vs striaght, highest straight wins.. the same? split pot. Can you have a straight and also a pair in your hand? No. Because your hand is 5 cards, the ones that make the straight, hence the needed card for the pair would be a 6th Etc etc

If the suits, spades, hearts, clubs or diamonds don't matter. You both have a pair of jacks. Then the high cards value is best. You have to make the best 5 card hand possible. So you will have JJA65. Your friend will have JJA76. Meaning your friend will win because his 7 beats your 5.
