I'll be going sideways at my current depth but only to make a utility alcove of about 1 cubic metre. When the shaft reaches 7 metres I'll start the actual tunnel for the bunker itself.

Get a socket weld it onto a chisel bit for a jack hammer/masonry drill. Use that to drive the rods in. Save you hours and hours mate.
