Thank you for the reply. I’m more interested in Munster since I’ll be commuting to Chicago. I want to know what the growth is like in the real estate market there, rent values as well. I would be looking into a multi unit investment property where I would potentially live in. What are the benefits of Indiana versus staying in Chicago and investing here?
Any advice on how to find the best suburb to fit a family moving from out of state? Moved to a new state 2 years ago and we should have done more research 😬. Thanks!
@@amyschmidt6082 Hi Amy! Everyone forgets about the lake life in NE Indiana. There are lakes of all sizes here, some very large, and full of fishing, boating, water sports, canoeing, and kayaking. We have some lakes so large that restaurants have lakeside access. Most of these lakes also have public access ramps for boats, so you can place your boat on a trailer and drive to just about any lake you like. So we’re not just depending on the little bite of Lake Michigan we have. If you have a business near the state-line, you will get a huge customer base from Illinois residents. Great video with a lot of truth in it. I've lived in MA, WA, FL, NM, IL, IA, and IN. They all have good and bad qualities. Being a blue dot here in Trumpiana, I keep my mouth shut and realize my vote means nothing here, but the people don't talk politics and are 99% super friendly and salt of the earth. Nobody's in your face, but if you ask, you're gonna hear things that make you wonder if it's still the 50's. Stuff people complain about: Worst-of-all-worlds weather; suburban complacency; aspiring-to-basic attitudes; cliquish, intolerant small towns; lack of advancement opportunity and low wages if you don't live in Indy; housing prices getting ridiculous; medical, artistic, and intellectual underdevelopment; boring, more boring, and cornfields; long drive to "civilization"; expanding "Two Americas" dynamic, some towns made up entirely of churches, bars, and Dollar Generals... Stuff people like: Generally decent people who go out of their way to help someone in need (and WILL let you in in traffic!); relatively low violent crime; prices still slightly below national average; never "too crazy"; active small-town sports culture; an Applebee's within driving distance of every town, Olive Garden for special occasions... Yeah, you could do worse, but you definitely could do better. You live a small life here. Most people move away after college and move back when they have kids. They're still bored and stifled here, but at least their kids don't get shot at on the daily (unless you're in Indy). Indiana is where you go to "settle down"--when your dreams have died.

I just wanted to tell you that you are really good at what you do.. I am not moving anywhere, but this video just came up in my video feed and I decided to watch it. It was a joy to watch. Thanks.
I left sunny San Diego for obvious reasons and moved to a cold part of Arizona. Now I'm old and alone and considering moving outside of Evansville, only to be in reasonable distance to family in the Chicago metro, but I'm still trying to avoid the cold. My relatives refuse to move somewhere warm, but it's no fun spending holidays alone.
first of all I apologize in advance for not watching the whole video I got bored, however I had to make this statement in the comments before I go. Just about anywhere in the world your going to find pretty bad reasons to or not to live there. What ever bad there is here in Indiana for me, the good way out weigh the bad by an insane amount. Weather everywhere has goods and bad, but for me it would be stupid to leave because the politics are pretty tame compared to other areas, and in the right areas here in Indiana the people are very friendly and respectful and you will never had any problems. Quite literally the only people I have ever actually had problems with where I live is my family. I have experienced absolutory zero discrimination issues being one of the common types of people that could experience that problem. I am actually pretty terrified of the idea of living anywhere else in the USA outside of my city I currently live in. Especially with lot of the issues currently going on today. The north central areas of Indiana has some of the most amazing people!
I've lived in Fort Wayne since '97. The reason it's cheap is because it's a soul-crushing place to live. Summers are hot, winters are cold, people are reserved and highly opinionated, overweight, and they think it's still 1950. The outdoors are boring. Leave the city and it's just farmer's fields. The cheap living is disappearing because more people are moving here. Home prices have doubled.
I am a floor installer currently living in northern Idaho. The flooring stores in the area use subcontractors. Do the flooring stores in Indiana use subcontractors or employee installers? Thank you for any help!
Some have installers on staff but they use subcontractors if they are overwhelmed. Buying flooring at Home Depot or Lowe's will guarantee subcontractors.
Southeast Indiana is a well kept secret..The beautiful rolling hills, four seasons, casino's & even a ski - slopes at Paoli Peaks & if your a deer hunter it's paradise..Been here for six years from Nashville Tn & Daytona Beach & I'm not moving back.
Well I was surprised I moved from CA and live in Indiana. I noticed in in an modern shopping entertainment type of Mall in Avon had many empty store that was surprised by this very popular area. The economy has been rough on every place in the country Indiana isn't immune to this.
Thank you, This is a great video. Food diversity really is bad in Fort Wayne. Exactly what we needed before moving but had to for a job. TX was much more political so appreciate the toned down politics here and weather is much better than TX but agree that it’s cold much longer than we expected. Good overview and Thank you!
I looked at home prices in Indiana and almost cried. I live in IL and let's just say this...Indiana real estate is so cheap it's almost too good to be true. Imagine prices twice as high and property taxes 4x as high and you have IL real estate. I'm moving to Indiana.
If you watched any of my other videos (in addition to this one) you would see that I LOVE Indiana. The point of this video is to let people know that Indiana may not be for everyone. Thanks again for watching, and I hope you have a great day!
I was in the army in the 80s. Did my training at fort Ben Harrison/ chanute Air Force Base. They had a real beautiful civil war museum in downtown Indianapolis. I wonder if it's still there?
To the best of my knowledge, it was relocated and is now a part of the Indiana War Memorial and Museum, just a few blocks north of Monument Circle. Thanks for watching, and more importantly, thank you for your service!
I grew up in Evansville, lived in Ft. Wayne for 4yrs, and then moved out of state (MD, GA, MO, TX). 10yrs later, and I'm back. I actual prefer the 4 seasons. It makes for that nice "in-the-middle" climate. Lots of complaints about my bumbkin-ass state. But it's MY bumbkin state..lol Ft. Wayne, Bloomington, and Indy are about the only decent places anymore, unfortunately, if you're fresh from out-of-state.
I’m from Illinois and I’m thinking of moving after college, or just finishing school at one of your fine colleges. Goodness gracious this state is brutal. Your videos are great. Thanks for all the information!!!!
Born and Raised in Kansas. Lived in Hawaii, Washington State and currently Florida. So, the weather isn't unusual to me. My girlfriend said that Indiana is Hot and Humid in the season, Brutally Cold in the Winter. Still doesn't deter me. 😊
Im from Marion Indiana, ive lived in most of the cities and towns around it. Fairmount is the birthplace of James Dean and Jim Davis (Garfield). Gas city, Jonesboro, Huntington, Upland, muncie, Kokomo, and even Ft. Wayne i have never lived in a town or city in Indiana i have disliked. The only complaint i have is winter 😅
Lafayette has seen its housing prices soar. West Lafayette's Purdue admits far more students than it can house and demands freshman stay in the dorms...if renting, you compete against 5000 students, mostly used to California prices. We are gerrymandered as badly as Illinois, but their crooks sometimes get caught. It also means we are chasing Ohio rightward. At least we don't force ten year olds to become both mother and sister. Our low living expenses are balanced by low wages. Indiana wages and DC rents match badly ..and our tenant protections are weak.
If you are considering moving to Indiana: leave your screaming me me junk at the border, I left Chicago, IL.and moved to Indiana to enjoy a conservative Christian lifestyle, with lower prices all the way around. This is due to great leadership, and, the conservative lifestyle. There are problems sure, but most of the people are good, and many, many churches, Gary J.
Hello, I will own race horses at the horseshoe & a club on Penelton Pike, Hope I can find a place to live with in 15 min. from both of these places that is safe.?
Your budget will probably be the biggest deciding factor on where you will find a house. Send me a text or email with your details and I’m happy to help you find a new home here in the Indy area.
Cost of living here is perfectly fine. I live 50 minutes from indy. Unless you like traffic don't move close to the capital. Rural areas are the best for families. Weather is good here. Guaranteed she's in the city and not strong enough to last elsewhere
Are you saying I live in the city? I don't live in Indy, but I do live in the suburbs. And honestly, I'd love to have a home with some land and a bunch of chickens, some bee hives, and a large garden. A girl can dream...😉
I just came across your video. I work in ag. I can't believe the negative comments you said about the herbicide, fertilizer usage. Ag must be a easy target. Look at all the other industries in Indiana. Your a realtor. Look at all the homes with the beautiful green yards. In proportion they use more fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides then farms do.
Wow with all those comments surprised you even sell any homes. If someone wants a blue county to live in try Lake and Porter counties, Indianapolis is now blue (the reason I moved out of Marion county and into Johnson county) Allen county which is Ft Wayne has been blue forever. I grew up in Lake county and it's a democrat stronghold so to the person asking about Munster Indiana...it's a nice place and easy to commute to Chicago to work. I lived in Hobart IN in 1977 and drove to the Prudential building everyday for 18 months only time it was long was when it snowed. If you are looking for good housing for decent prices, Indiana still gives more home for the buck..take a $300K home here and put it in most other states and it will be $500K not to mention property taxes in Indiana are still below the national average. Can it be boring here..oh yeah, lived here for 66 years and yes I do get bored but then again you can be bored anywhere. A state doesn't make a healthy lifestyle that is a person's job to do that. I do agree there are more healthy options here than ever and more on the horizion. I have wanted to move out from Indiana for quite some time but other states all have their pros and cons and this state seems to be like a middle ground that is affordable, people are nice, and generally the state stays out of your business. Long rant here but in the end "to each their own".
Indiana is a wonderful state! Living in Indy or a suburb of Indy is expensive. But smaller towns are great! And yes, I am a republican! And proud of it!
I just realized why everything is so Indy-centric: air travel. If you need to go anywhere it's either Indy or Chicago. And that means you have a long drive ahead of you if you wanted to travel.
Yes, there are a lot of flights that go in and out of Indy, primarily because it is centrally located in the midwest. As far as traveling out of town goes, if you want to drive to the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic Ocean, it's about a 12 hour drive.
Yeah, I came across your video. It’s a year old but if you read this, is there anything you could do to keep the people from California moving here seeing how L. A. has burnt down to the ground
Thanks for watching! But no, I won't stop people from moving here. Indiana is a great place to live (if you can handle the downsides). The people in California that lost their homes are the people that most need a new place to live, and if Indiana suits their needs then all Hoosiers should welcome them with open arms.
We moved to Indiana from Princeton, NJ three years ago and I have so much to say - mostly negative - about the experience. I mean - I can carry a gun around without a permit in Indiana whereas NJ's draconian gun laws would never allow that - but that's about the only positive thing I can say (though many would call that negative). Car insurance is higher, home owners insurance is the same, food, gas is higher. Clothing is more expensive (NJ does not charge sales tax on clothing where Indiana does), car registration is MUCH higher. in Indiana Utilities are the same. Home prices have skyrocketed recently to the point they offer little to no cost savings when compared to other parts of the country. Open space - forget about it. NJ and most of the Northeast has done such a wonderful job of preserving open space whereas Indiana can't build homes fast enough, using up every last inch of farm land to build cheap (in terms of build quality - not cost) homes. The variety food is just awful in Indiana....just absolutely awful if you're outside of Indianapolis. For decent bagels and bread, go to Panera Bread - that's your best option. That's it. We have found that the people in Indiana rate food based not on quality or taste but by the size of the portions. The more food they get, the better the place. Anyway, I could go on and on but it wont change anything so a my wife tells me - it's time to move on!
Can't agree on the food. Maybe if you only use Google or Yelp to search for places, you might have a hard time finding places. The best ethnic food is definitely in Bloomington. The pandemic killed off a lot of family restaurants, and county staples unfortunately.
All of those things' prices skyrocketed everywhere during/after COVID, are you sure you aren't mixing up an issue with Indiana for an issue with nationwide inflation? Of course it's going to affect certain areas more than others, and how heavily you feel the effects depends on where you live and your lifestyle. Maybe we should double check today's NJ prices vs today's IN prices? Also I second Bloomington having a wonderful variety of food places, I went there specifically so that I could try Korean food. Most of Indiana just isn't particularly ethnically diverse, so you're going to have to go to a decent sized town or city to find a wider variety of cuisine. And of course so many hole in the wall / mom n pop shops and restaurants closed down within the past few years because of COVID as well.. it's definitely muddied things up so it can be hard to tell.
Ya this is everywhere in the country right now, it's not just a indiana thing. Though a little research before you move somewhere helps from making mistakes
I love Indiana because it’s my home state & lived here all my life but i absolutely hate the 4 seasons & winter mostly, if it could be just summer & fall here year round then I’d love it.
I'm curious, what city or town do you live in? The Canadian wildfires definitely didn't help the air quality earlier this year, but for the most part the air quality in Indiana is above normal. Thanks again for watching!
Mostly from michigan. China causes twice the pollution a year than the entire world put together 🤷♀️ you wont find air anywhere thats not polluted lol.

I think its funny that when you talk about Indiana you act like South Bend, Fort Wayne, and Evansville are not really included. I like Indianapolis too and their suburbs. But there is more to the state. Maybe you should be saying central Indiana 90%+ of the video.
Yes, the majority of my content is based in central Indiana, and I make a lot of my points based around that area. Thank you for watching and taking the time to write a comment!
Your preaching to the choir. I was "shocked" that people like this exist other than on horror flicks. The "Walking Dead" series was supposed to be fantasy! People in Indiana live it!

We do not rely on the federal government, or any other entity! We are very strong-willed people! If this isn't for you? Move somewhere else! I've been to every state except for Alaska and Hawaii I would never move out of Indiana when the corn and soybeans dries out ready to pick all those chemicals are evaporated.
Thank you for watching! Unfortunately the pesticides/chemicals used to treat crops do not "evaporate" from the plant once it dries after being sprayed. Pesticides are harmful to humans, and their effects have been widely documented.
Soneones weight is a choice amd shouldnt be listed. No ones forcing amyone to eat fried foods. Theres plenty of options. Itd not indianas fault if people cant stop shoving food down their throats. Js.
I didn't say anyone is forcing people to eat fried foods, only that Indiana has a lot of fried food options, most of which are available at the Indiana State Fair. I'm making people that don't live in Indiana aware that there are some parts of Indiana that don't take healthy living seriously.
I've lived in Indiana most of my life, and I love it here! The point of the video was to show that Indiana may not be the best fit for everyone. Thanks for watching!
My name is Marc and I'm a Democrat but I've lived in Indiana my whole life and I've had no problems with Republicans they always treat me with respect this is a problem with people like you you have no idea what you're talking about and as far as the weather goes once you move up to Chicago and see bad weather Chicago gets four times more snow than we get should start getting your facts right
Hello Marc the Democrat, thanks for your comment. Generally speaking, Indiana is a republican-voting state. There are clearly pockets of democrats that exist throughout the state (clearly you’ve found one) just as there are pockets of republicans. As far as weather goes, Chicago definitely has worse winters than Indiana, but Chicago is not the focus (or point) of my video. It’s also colder and more snowy in Michigan than in Indiana in the winter, and hotter in Kentucky than Indiana in the summer, but again, neither of those facts are really the point of my video.
Did you actually watch the video or are you just reacting to the title? Because if you actually watched it you would already know I love living in Indiana, and the point of the video is that living here is not for everyone.

Since Indiana has a state income tax, do they have a health insurance mandate where you pay a penalty if you were uninsured?
No, Indiana does not have a state-specific law requiring residents to have health insurance.
Sorry, I didn't read your comment, it was too long. But thanks for (kind of) watching!

I live in the countryside of Indiana and it is the best place if you like the outdoors and a LOT of cows
There are definitely pros and cons to every place. Thanks for watching!
I am a floor installer currently living in northern Idaho. The flooring stores in the area use subcontractors. Do the flooring stores in Indiana use subcontractors or employee installers? Thank you for any help!
Depends on the store.
Some have installers on staff but they use subcontractors if they are overwhelmed. Buying flooring at Home Depot or Lowe's will guarantee subcontractors.
@@slowboywhiteboardv4 Do you happen to know what installers make per sq ft for lvp/laminate?
@@530dynasty1 $3.80 - $5 per sq ft

Southeast Indiana is a well kept secret..The beautiful rolling hills, four seasons, casino's & even a ski - slopes at Paoli Peaks & if your a deer hunter it's paradise..Been here for six years from Nashville Tn & Daytona Beach & I'm not moving back.
Thank you so much your video was soo pure and informative ❤it really helped

Well I was surprised I moved from CA and live in Indiana. I noticed in in an modern shopping entertainment type of Mall in Avon had many empty store that was surprised by this very popular area. The economy has been rough on every place in the country Indiana isn't immune to this.
Yes, Avon is a great place to live, and sorry to hear of the mall struggling. The struggle is real everywhere. Thanks again for watching!
Avon doesn’t have a Mall
Thank you, This is a great video. Food diversity really is bad in Fort Wayne. Exactly what we needed before moving but had to for a job. TX was much more political so appreciate the toned down politics here and weather is much better than TX but agree that it’s cold much longer than we expected. Good overview and Thank you!
Thanks for watching, and I appreciate the feedback!
Bagle what's a bagle? This is indiana bagles and anchovies are NJ items move back
Hi from Indianapolis Indiana
I looked at home prices in Indiana and almost cried. I live in IL and let's just say this...Indiana real estate is so cheap it's almost too good to be true. Imagine prices twice as high and property taxes 4x as high and you have IL real estate. I'm moving to Indiana.
I hear this a lot from people moving here from Illinois. It's wild the difference in prices between the two states.
You live in a very beautiful place and you should be very proud! its gorgeous!
Thank you so much!
You claim to be a moderate, but the way you worded and delivered your opinion you sure sound liberal. If you hate Indiana so much please leave.
If you watched any of my other videos (in addition to this one) you would see that I LOVE Indiana. The point of this video is to let people know that Indiana may not be for everyone. Thanks again for watching, and I hope you have a great day!
Republican places aren't that great anyway
I’m from California and my aunt lives in Indianapolis Indiana she was born and raised there in her whole entire life.
To many people!
My personal tips
1: be careful
2: don’t be dumb
3: be brave
200 k for a home is cheap
I grew up in Evansville, lived in Ft. Wayne for 4yrs, and then moved out of state (MD, GA, MO, TX). 10yrs later, and I'm back.
I actual prefer the 4 seasons. It makes for that nice "in-the-middle" climate.
Lots of complaints about my bumbkin-ass state. But it's MY bumbkin state..lol
Ft. Wayne, Bloomington, and Indy are about the only decent places anymore, unfortunately, if you're fresh from out-of-state.
Hopefully you scared most of the liberals away who might have been thinking of moving here lol
That was certainly not my intent; I just want to educate people so that they can decide if Indiana is right for them or not. Thanks for watching!
Please no snowflakes
So everyone should be a lemming and be the exact same? No thanks. Diversity makes everyone better. Thanks for watching!
As someone who lives on Indiana, I think people should take thos seriously. For real, our cost of living is skyrocketing and id like it to stop...
Cost of living is up everywhere, not just Indiana. Thanks for watching!
@@geesamanhomes Yes but the housing prices have been sky rocketing because of folks from Illinois. Within a couple years, housing has doubled.

You rock! Thanks for watching!
It snowed one year at the 500, that would be on Memorial Day. It was in the late 70's but not unheard of.
Yes, a late spring snow is not unheard of in Indiana. Thanks for watching!!
Extremely rare
Hardly snows anymore though
Indiana wages and DC rents match badly
..and our tenant protections are weak.
There are a lot of people fleeing Illinois and moving to Indiana.

I'm glad you're happy in your new home!
Yeah, in Indiana you just get yelled at not if you don't live the " Christian lifestyle". At least the Christians are free to discriminate.

You’re not wrong! Thanks for watching!
We need less traffic lights and more freeways with rest areas
Agreed.
Thanks for watching, and I appreciate you taking the time to write up a thoughtful comment!
Monroe county is blue also, that is why I moved there

Thanks for taking the time to write out your thoughts, and I feel bad you've had such a bad experience moving to Indiana!
Yep move back. New York and New Jersey people think their shit don't stink. Lived in Indiana for 73 years 😅
I love Indiana because it’s my home state & lived here all my life but i absolutely hate the 4 seasons & winter mostly, if it could be just summer & fall here year round then I’d love it.

I think you should move
