@@angiesalais Not all homes in the Indy area have basements. This has nothing to do with winters, rather it’s more to do about the home builders not building homes with basements because either they weren’t popular at the time, or to keep costs down.

You are first RUclips channel I have seen read negative reviews about a city. Most channels will talk about their city as if they are love-bombing it . What I am finding is every city has its pros and cons. Sometimes it is the weather or lack of shopping or a bad public transportation (Bus) but it will also have some pros like being affordable or friendly communities. I haven’t found a place that is my favorite at this point but I often wish you can combine two cities into one place. I love the Oregon coast and a small town that is affordable with sunny weather in the 60s and 70s all year.

Grew up in Indy area, moved away. I’ve lived in S.Florida, North East & Kansas City. Also have often traveled central US & east coast for biz. Cost of living is better than most, Midwest weather is extreme. Availability of fresh produce can be seasonal, seafood can pricy & limited, good affordable beef & poultry. Most Midwest is chubby to fat, so lifestyle is a personal choice. Indy has some good gyms. Downtown - has changed since pandemic, crime has increased. Hopefully that will be turning around. Outside that, great place to raise a family, interstate is easy to navigate….and last time I checked Indy does have good libraries! Indy is more conservative, but I’m trying to escape a liberal crime invested , over taxed crap hole. So Indy is looking pretty good 😂

Parts of rural Indiana (not just southern Indiana) do have their issues, but I'd say a lot of the cities that surround Indianapolis are nice places to live. Where I live is not dirty, nor run down, but does have strip malls, used car lots, churches and bars just like the rest of equally-sized cities across the USA. But just because it has those things does not make it a bad place to live. More than one million people live in the Indy and surrounding cities, and a lot of them love it here.

Property tax rates in Carmel are the same as everywhere else; it's the high property values that cause the property taxes to be perceived has "higher" than surrounding areas. Generally speaking your annual property taxes are around 1% of your property's assessed value if you live in the home (owner-occupied), or closer to 2% if you rent out your property (non-owner occupied).

Winters are long and last from November to May? Not even close. You must have an odd definition of winter weather. The really bad winter weather usually lasts 3-4 weeks. The rest of winter is chilly but not unbearable.

Sometimes it remains so cold in the spring that it can feel like winter; sometimes we still get snow in April and morning temps in May can still be in the 40's. Brrrrr 🥶

@@geesamanhomes 40s in the morning is NOT winter. It's normal for spring. And, yes, it occasionally snows in April. In the 10 years I've lived here the latest it has snowed is April 19th but that was unusual. Then the sun comes out and it's gone within 24 hours. The winters here are not bad at all and if you like warmth 12 months out of the year, the Midwest is not for you.

I live here. Too backwards. Roads are horrible. Cost of living is decent which is the only perk. We rank low on so many metrics.

Right now the low cost of living is the largest perk for most people that are moving to Indy from out of state. Definitely not a bad place to live, but could always be better.
