Just discovered this band today. Was familiar with how the story ends, but didn’t know of the band. Well well well. Looks like I’ve got some catching up to do. Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable. Sat and listened to the first 2 albums back to back and as a 31 year old man, pretty much bought me to tears. Fucking incredible.
Thats the effect Harriet Wheeler had on me when I first heard the Sundays when I was 17 years Old.
The Sundays are one of very few bands... You can shuffle their entire discography and never want to skip a song. Amazing.
As an album enjoyer this feels uncomfortable to read
Her voice is just one of the best things in the whole world.
INDEED
It's a gift for us!
Yeah it is
Regret not seeing these guys....
You said it 🧡!
Harriet turns 58 this year. We likely will never hear from them again. But they shared their gifts with us for a short time and those memories and the music will stay with us forever. So funny, as this video is ending I feel the same as I did when I saw them live years ago and that show ended. A little sad but also a little happy to have heard them.
Guess what, words cannot describe the haunting magical quality conjured by the guitar and vocals.
Simply mesmerising.
Your acting she already dead
@@okirrama3587well, it seems like we won’t hear from them ever again
@@yeshuaortigoza5995David said they didn't stop making songs but never really released them. Wonder when will they decide especially now that many old bands are getting back together
Saw them, June 8, 1993, Sweeney Center in Santa Fe New Mexico. It was like a dream, especially that such a great band came to freaking New Mexico!
Is anyone else appreciating how impeccable this performance is. Her voice is outstanding and utterly in key at all times. Perfect harmony and pitch. I fucking love her, since I was 15! 48 now.
Absolutely...been in love with her for 30 years. Awesome band
Still love her...
there's no getting over it. the rest of the world won't get it until we are long gone - and they'll not have us around to explain what it must have been like in the 90's.
She's a bit pitchy in a few spots, but yes she is amazing. I've been listening since I was about ten.
My cousin introduced me to their music when I was 18, I'm 48 now, and one of my few regrets in life is never going to see them live back then. Harriett's voice is just perfection.
One of my all time favorite groups! Thanks for posting!!
They quit in 1997 never to be heard from again, to raise a family. Well their kids have to be in college by now. Can we get a reunion please?
Actually at least one kid is at the same college where her parents met. It's the circle of indie.
At least some reissues remasters with b sides and live cuts? And then a tour?
@@DJdext David Baddiel is great friends with them, and he said they would never tour again. But he did say they would probably release something at some point. It is also confirmed that they have been playing with Patrick Hannan and Paul Brindley.
Wish they were like Fleetwood Mac... keep splitting up and getting back together to perform live and spite each other
This should go in the frozen vault in Svalbard along with the seeds. It's that important.
The Sundays are one of the best bands of all time
Their cover of Wild Horses is better than the original. One of the best covers ever. The rest of the songs are very pretty, and you can hear the influence of the Cocteau Twins in the guitars.
I was a senior in high school, had a ticket to this show, then got grounded by my mom. So I sat at home while my friends went. 😩 Sincerely, thank you for capturing what I missed out on! 🙏
Even after all these years i still find Harriet's vocals to be simultaneously dreamy, child-like, ethereal, fresh and innocent, full of melancholy, spine tingling. Whenever i hear her sing and the band accompanying her it often leaves me in awe.
The Sundays were one of my favourite female fronted bands of that time. But there were so many bands with great or unusual female vocalists like: The Cardigans, The Cocteau Twins/This Mortal Coil, The Cranberries, Elastica, Everything But The Girl, The Fugees, Indigo Girls, Mazzy Star, Morcheeba, Portishead and The Sugarcubes etc. around at that time too.
Many thanks for sharing. 👍🏽👌🏽
Don't forget the Cranes
It was a wonderful era for women-fronted bands.
Hell- we’re lucky that they all are, nowadays.
To see Harriet hitting those notes live was impressive. The power and precision of her voice is really quite remarkable. Not that I ever doubted it, but her talent is undeniable. Thanks for uploading this.
I WAS THERE!!! Not on the floor, off to the side, in the 'stands'!! Thanks for this!
Me too with my then GF now ex-wife. About 12' from the stage
73 years old, and I've never heard a voice that could compare.
Liz Fraser?
@TheBjarneBjarne j ai connu les sund2ys en 88 ...inoubliable.c etait "can t be sure" je travaillais a londre et mon voisin faisait cracher ca a fond ....depuis je kiff
Must’ve never heard about Whitney Houston🤦🏽♂️
@@melcivengLiz is a better singer but i much prefer harriet’s voice
@@malachijones705 i don't think overrated pop artists could compare either
And this guitar player is absolutely absolutely absolutely absolutely is absolutely really Brilliant
As a 50 yr old man I grew up with this, loved this band always, she is simply an angel and the band was a perfect compliment, being the only concert on tube or any where else I have watched this many x and cry every time I watch. Thanks bro for this masterpiece God bless utube.
Time flies
With ya man!
God bless the Sundays and Harriet Wheeler. One of the most moving voices ever to sing.
Harriet …. Sweet Harriet …. So loving … so beautiful … so … majestic. Where have you gone ….
I had the pleasure of seeing them live in Salt Lake City in 1993, the Blind tour, at the height of my teenage angst and they melted my heart with these sweet melodies and galactic guitar riffs. They are a breath of fresh air. This is music folks!

Fixed. Thanks!
Also here's where the story ends should be at 53:30 😅
Also fixed :)
Thank you for the time stamps!
This band was so on-target. While playing this video, sync each song to the one on the albums... precisely, every vocal phrasing, guitar lick, and drum hit is there. Just stunning. Never get enough of the sound - could loop all three albums forever. :)
I listened to RW&A every day for at least a year. There is something going on here besides your normal band crush
Bass player knows how its done as well
Such an important part of my life in graduate school, and then in my early career as an architect. I don't think I could have made it through without The Sunday's first two albums, and now in 2024, finding new inspiration once again in this amazing music. The song "Joy" is especially meaningful, even more-so now. Thank you David, Harriet, Patrick and Paul!
Hands down the best female front woman ever. In a decade dominated by the likes of Hope Sandoval, Shirley Manson, Nina Persson, and Bjork, Harriet is peerless.
Agreed 100% with Bjork being #2
Neck and neck with Dolores from The Cranberries
When Harriet Wheeler walks up to that microphone, she carries herself with the presence of an Angel and the voice of one too. So delicate but so strong. The rest of the band surrounds her vocals so well also. What a band.
They somehow passed me by in the 90s, just ordered all 3 albums. Better late than never.
Saw them in 1992 in Seattle. It was my first official concert. ...I've been mesmerized by Harriet Wheeler ever since. Like an old school mate that you've never seen since, it dang near feels like a lost love.
Little did this videoographer know he was capturing youtube gold.
@@markitaneight so Awesome...too bad she/he are atheists..hard to swallow cause that requires great blinding from the very real invisible enemy and our own sin condition.

Now I'm missing them even more... Thanks for sharing this, that was awesome.
Can we get a Sundays reunion? This song is amazing!!
ボーカルに全くエフェクト処理がかかってない
生の歌声のままでライブやっている
ハリエットの歌声はそのままですごい
響いてくる
日本で彼らのライブを体験したのは生涯最高の体験でした
Saw them in a club in ST in the early 90's. Waited after the show to get them to sign my CD booklet. So cool
I'm about to turn 45 and I'm so privileged I got to grow up listening to them! Missed their show in NY during this tour, so I drove with my girlfriend and another friend down to Washington DC 2 days later just to see them. So glad I did!!! This vid brings back all the memories. I will love these guys forever. Thank you Harriet, David, Patrick and Paul!
I come back to this roughly once or twice a year. Never disappoints. Ever.
''the finest hour I ever known was finding a pound on the underground''.........what a simple lyric but so brilliant
Never to be seen or heard from again.
How beautiful. How sad.
So wild! I was at this show! I can’t believe someone recorded this. I love RUclips
I think Harriet and David will live forever like this; young, beautiful, and glorious
Why did they have to stop? This band are sacred to me, till the day I die, they got me through so many good times and bad. The soundtrack to my life at certain points of my lifetime. If you're feeling down or at the edge of your life, just go somewhere into nature and listen to any of their albums. Thank you The Sundays, one of the most complete bands of all time. Never sold out.
The family life. That's what I've heard, Harriet and David wanting to settle down and raise their family.
My lads and I listen to The Sundays while we chop down timber in the forest.
Oh Dear...
Nice friends you got.
Lol...
Lmao
Harriets voice was so effortless and never forced. She was just angelic and gorgeous vocally and physically. No one else has ever sounded like her and the entire band for that matter. Better than The Corrs, Cranberries, 10,000 maniacs....Every single song they recorded is brilliant.
Thank you for posting this concert. Never got to see them. Would still love to. I figure they are well nigh done performing, recording or even playing/practicing. Still crushing hard on Harriet. Her voice and phrasing bring me extensive joy and relaxation and inspiration. How interesting it would be to meet her and her family. You know, to de-mythologize my fascination with her before I die a "peaceful death."
Thanks for posting this.
Such great energy from them.
Miss them lots.
Im 55 and currently bingjng their catalog in my car. Thank God for MTV and shows like 120 minutes that turned me on to The Sundays and Harriets phenomenal voice as well as bands like The Smiths and R.E.M. etc. Travesty The Sundays blessed us with only three albums. One of the greatest bands ever to come out of England
Brings back such fond memories. Got to see their NYC show with a couple friends. I was just 19. We were close to the stage and I got a great picture of Harriet while she was singing. Simpler times and such great music. I wonder if they know how deeply their music has impacted their fans. Thanks for uploading this show.
Angelhood at its highest level. Brilliant songs that illuminated every stage and still all of them as anthems in our minds and souls forever and a day!
obnoxious fan: "God Made Me...."
Harriet Wheeler: "I'm very pleased for you."
the money i would pay to see the sundays live
I cannot think of any band that I would like to see do a reunion tour more than the Sundays.
Her voice absolutely kills me
Even with a shit recording quality her voice shines. So sad there isn't decent footage of their live gigs - but that was the time, and we are grateful for what there is.
I went to this Atlanta tour. Damn. I was SO in love with her ... threw a letter on stage telling her just how much she meant to a teenage girl in South GA ... how I had to quit my job just to be there ... hours of driving. Told her she should know what she is ... some kinda bizarre angel to people like me. Yeah. I'm still into this idea.
I wasn't into going to shows at the time. Wish I had gone to the Atlanta show. I'm sure I'd have loved it.
Right there with you. Great story!
Love this story! Thanks for sharing.
@@RyanScottGraham love this...nice.
Can I have Friday off?? NO !!! Fine ok !!!Friday afternoon drive bye work with middle finger out the window FU Going to the show!!!!!You Definitely made the right decision,,Plenty of other jobs but only 1 Sunday’s
I just discovered this and I'm wrecked. LOVE IT!
What real chops and musicianship sounded like before the age of Autotune, drum machines, and samples. The Sundays went away as fast as they arrived it seemed, just a fleeting moment in music history. But what they gave us were three iconic albums that sound just as timeless 25-30yrs later. Their sound will never age ugly like disco or grunge.
Actually they first started playing music with a drum machine.
They never played live with it, but that's how they began.
This is amazing! Thank you so much for uploading this. Harriet’s voice is so magical, soothing, and perfect! She’s so beautiful as well and David is amazing with that guitar! I would of had goosebumps the whole night. Those little screams on Medicine were so perfect 😍.
Amazing vocals and the band was perfect behind her. Great show. Wish I saw this live.
thank u so much man. Im from RUssia. Originally frome Siberia....Far away,,,,,,Just want u to know u did a great job uploading this amazin band,,,,,Harriet is just one of those who are to fly forever in our hearts, Dolores O Riordan is the same for me, I think for most of us. ....So small amount of such a great bands now ....its a disaster. So lets save what we have!
Wow! Great memories, glad I was lucky enough to see them twice back in the day!
Harriet's voice is gorgeous, but it's the way she expresses with it that's really miraculous. A great vocal stylist, nobody was like her
Harriet was the end all be all of female brit pop in 1989 and 1990. I remember hearing "I kicked a boy" in a Gap sometime around then. And of course we all loved her and the version of the song "Here's where the story ends".
Thanks for sharing this! Saw this show in person and I'm so, so happy to have found it here all these years later. Great memories.
The Sundays' music is one of a very few human cultural expressions of art that permanently lives in my heart. ❤
The lead singer harriet has one of those voices that really pierces the soul. She doesn’t need technical riffs to get you to tears, and paired with her simple relatable lyrics and thick and complex background instrumentation, it makes for a very introspective but pleasant sound scape. I discovered the sundays in high school, now I’m in college, and will probably love them until the grave.
Excellent! 😍
Sadly I never had the chance to experience The Sundays live... 😭
Like so many others have said, their music is inspiring, joyful, meditative, deep. Harriet said in an MTV interview that they don’t write songs for a specific topic but instead write songs based on a feeling at that time. I couldn’t be happier that you guys did!! Wishing them all happy lives 😎
The most beautiful voice i’ve ever heared.
So Grateful for this. THANK YOU!! for sharing this Wonderful concert. World class, and Timeless.
What a voice. Summertime, my favorite. The band was on spot. Great band. And , what a voice!
I saw them the night after this in Washington,, DC. I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to see them then. They performed only 4 more concerts after that and then have been silent ever since. I will always love Harriet's voice and the three wonderful albums they released.
45:39 - Is heavenly. What a voice.
Oh as the heavens shudder, baby, I belong to you.
Speechless! 99.9% live accuracy, wow!
"I kicked a boy" never fails to make me tear up. Just the opening...
The crowd is catatonic through this whole performance
No smartphones... is beautiful...!❤
just beautiful, just music, just a voice, just musicians playing instruments, no filler
Thanks so much for posting this!!
What an absolute treasure this bootleg is! We’re so lucky it was filmed, and I hope the band are ok with it…. ❤
oooooh my gosh....love this voice and band to much....!!! awesome!!!
Saw them in their only Denver appearance. Transcendental. The band, the sonics, Harriet's voice.
Played their CD's incessantly.
every single minute of this is beautiful
I have all their albums - loved them from day one back in the day - even hearing Harriet recorded so poorly live (no fault of the poster etc, just the tech at the time) makes you realise how wonderful and naturally effortless her voice was. And yeah, the arseholes talking and laughing during the performance - yeah, you're arseholes.
Magnificent band - I saw them on all of their US tours.
Lucky audience. Thank you for this!
Thanks for sharing! Awesome show, hope they release something new next year.
My gosh they’re absolutely pitch perfect! Why didn’t they keep going?!
Love Harriet's voice! Especially at the end of "My Finest Hour" at 41:45.
Thank you for uploading this!
I absolutely love The Sundays. So in love with Harriet💙
nothing can beat this band to me !!! love them
Thanks for uploading this... she is spectacular. And the band is good as well. Cheers yo.
One of the best bands Britain has produced. Our Joni Mitchell I think. For me they are very English. The themes, a strange connectedness to the place but wanting to escape too. A kind of interest in the understated, of what goes unnoticed.
One of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard, aside from Elizabeth Frasier’s. So bright and clear and vivid. There’s such a divine freshness and sparkle to it that’s always helped me during some pretty dark moments. It’s just magic. 🙏🙏
Right on man! Both Elizabeth Frasier & Harriet Wheeler are heaven sent angels 👼 that up lifts all of our souls when they're singing.
Peace, Love, & Happiness 💙
Great footage! The music sounds so raw and so beautiful!
Thanks for sharing this live! Harriet's voice is so amazing. This band follow me Since 1990... always the same pleasure ...welcome to heaven !
41:45 - One of those moments when singing is the most preciuos gift. Many Sundays fans in Perú.
Sadly I've never been to one of their concerts. Luckily you are the only one in the land of youtube who has a full concert video! Besides a couple noisy concert goers this was an awesome video. Thank you for uploading this bad boy!
It is sad that more people didn't get to see them but these are some good recordings. I was lucky to see them and it was the best concert I've ever seen in my life. Every note and song was perfect. It was pure bliss for the entirety of the set. I think they were just overwhelmed at how popular they were becoming and decided to retire into a simple lifestyle.
I wish they would come out with some new music.
and when you hear some of the "B" sides you have to think "what the F@!# were they thinking taking this song out?!?!!?"
Ty
watching this and knowing i will never be able to experience anything like it (born in 2008) is heartbreaking 💔
As the heavens shutter baby,,I belong too you,,,,,as a subscriber!,,,Thank you so much markit aneight!!!!!!
thankyou from the bottom of my heart for posting this thing of beauty
The drumming gave their songs such unique character
Their 3 albums were simply flawless. It's only my dream to see their live.. Philadelphia you were such lucky :)
