Once in a drunken rage my father said it takes EVERYTHING not to kill us. I remember begging my mom to leave him. He died 7 years ago and to this day I still run into people who knew him at work and talk about how AMAZING he was, kind and lo. But to mom and I he was a monster

Same. My dad was crazy and abusive, always threatening to kill people and bragging about it. We were waiting for the day he would hurt us. Everyone from the outside thinks he’s amazing and so helpful and nice… it’s sad to say but the day he dies will be the most freeing day I’ll experience.

It's been almost 6 years now but my husband was depressed. He would stay up late at night drinking beer and stuck in his head. I tried everything to try to pull him out of his depression. He would go to bed with me at night and then get up after I fell asleep and keep drinking. He was hopeless and negative about everything even though we had a pretty great life. I honestly felt I like he was going to kill me, our kids, and then himself. I would be sooo tired every night worrying about him and crying with him because of how negative his outlook on life was. I set up a doctor appointment for him on the 6th and he committed suicide on the 5th. Whenever I hear these stories they hit so close to my heart. Idk how these women felt or kids but I know what the fear feels like trying to help and support someone you love while fearing for your life and the life of your children. Mental health is not a joke and I hope it continues to get easier to get help!
I was a sort of similar situation. Married to an alcoholic, sounds a lot like your husband did. I always thought he or I would have snapped and we both would have ended up dead. Thankfully we never had kids. Crazy thing was, I was the one that didn’t want kids. He did, but I refused. I wasn’t going to let him destroy an innocent child’s life. He ended up dying too but it wasn’t intentional, just mixed downers and went to sleep one night and didn’t wake up.

I agree, I also do believe he only took the medicine at the point of which the police arrived and he knew they would be entering. I may be thinking too much into it but this way he would have known the police would have a responsibility to get him to an emergency room

A lot of people i feel dont understand why true crime IS important to hear about. Why want to hear about terrible things that are gross/scary? I like this channel so much because to me its about learning more about the patterns, to maybe stop furure catastrophic things from happening. We can't expect to change anything if we refuse to hear what's going on. I've learned so much since following this channel, and others. I really appreciate you making videos to share these stories.

We want to think life makes sense even when we are surrounded by proof that it isn’t. We are NOT watching normal folks ‘go nuts’, we see monsters who wear a normal face till something makes them drop the act, wiping away the life they feel was fake AND DESERVED to be eliminated for them to ‘live’.

Even the police officer was very emotional about how horrific this was. Oh, Tony blamed his wife? Same thing Chris Watts did. There’s a special place for people like those two.
No excuse for what they did. But women need to learn a few things on both cases. Dont put your whole life on social media, dont live beyond your means, dont have more kids than you can handle, So much peer pressure, social pressure, financial on the bread winner, then throw in extreme religious beliefs and one day they may snap!

Like with the Watts case, this family seems to have been living beyond their means and once they reach the point it can no longer be maintained, the father/ husband has a mental breakdown. I believe that the façade of being happy and successful is, in some cases, more important than life itself. Watts and Todt both chose to destroy their families rather than face the hard reality together with them that life is sometimes messy and humiliating.
there is nothing humiliating in admiting that you aren't handling the pressure of supporting your family by your own, downgrading to somewhere affordable to you and working with what you actually have instead of pilling on debt, it's the notion that if you can't have the perfect life then you've failed that drives people to do horrendus stuff like this sometimes.

@@korva_puusti Yes, I had a close male relative on my white side who overdosed. I don’t know if it is accidental or deliberate. He had been threatening suicide because he felt he hadn’t achieved enough by his age. Before that, that whole side of the family were always measuring achievements, and I would feel intimidated showing up at holidays if I hadn’t done anything amazing. Since the tragedy, 4 of us (that I know of) have been involved in addiction recovery, all of us are talking more, and it has felt more welcoming to go and visit, though attitude do crop up from time to time.
When the officer could barely finish reading Zoey’s birthday , my heart sank even more. Rest In Peace to this beautiful family who didn’t deserve this horrific end. 🕊
I appreciate how you included Breezy as a part of the family and not just a dog. Animals truly are a part of the family they belong to. Alot of people don't see it that way , and I'm glad to see someone who does. AND how the Sherrif included her, I was surprised to see that he was also charged with animal cruelty. He most definitely should have been! Unfortunately in my state to this day Animal cruelty isn't a felony , and people barely get jail time for it
My dog was my lifesaver when I miscarried. He never left my side and he was what got me through my grief. He was family. We lost him two years ago, age 11, and he'd been our boy from 7 weeks. Still miss my golden ball of fluff. We've recently adopted my son's 4 month old Pit Bull pup, as he had to move states. She's going to wiggle into our hearts just as deeply. 💕💯

Chris has blamed his mistress as well. He has even tried to blame her friend, insinuating that they used some sort of black magic to possess him with a demon to do their bidding. He's sick and his faith is exacerbating it.

My husband grew up with Tony and they played little league together for much of their youth. He was devastated when he heard about this happening. We live in WA state and my husband has been gone from Connecticut since he was 15 but he still had a hard time imagining how Tony or anyone for that matter could do that to their family. Gut wrenching.

My ex and my children have a cousin who was murdered by her husband. Ashley Maze Guarino and her two children were murdered. I'd love to hear you do their story. You are by far my favorite you tuber that I know you would do Ashley justice. And just for shits and giggles (SMFH) he takes police and stand buyers and the whole town basically 🙄 on a Oj Simpson like getaway attempt through the city. I'd really love to hear Ashley's story told with the loyalty and compassion that her and the children deserve. Her father, Steve Maze has done much to honor her and his grandchildren and I know he would love to hear you honor her too.

I am so sorry to hear about that hun my cousin was stalked by this guy that was on probation in California and he came to Pa with a gun and held my cousin at gun point her friend escaped and the cops showed up before he killed her they could of saved her they watched him drag her out of the house and bang her head off her car door and it knocked her out he drug her up the little hill and behind the shed and blew her brains out then turned the gun on himself took the coward wat out

@Lissi Kat - It is a bizarre place FOR SURE. I walked around it for about an hour. Shopkeepers stood outside their stores and would "tip" their hat to you as you walked by. It had kind of a 1950's feel to it. Artificial is a GREAT adjective to describe it.
I was actually living in Celebration when this happened. It was devastating, seeing the house tapped off knowing what happened was terribly sad. Definitely changed the community. Very much reminded me of the Watts case.
My aunt and family used to live there for about 10 years the house was definitely beautiful, up until now they miss it. This is a heartbreaking case 😢 💔 so sad that these beautiful woman and kids lost their lives. I didn't know about this case.. we were there recently 😪 may these sweet kids and her mama rest in peace 🙏

Zoey was born a month before my Julianna. She’d be 6. Going to school. Socialising. Starting to branch herself out, like her brothers. They all deserved to grow up 💔
My Daniel was born the day after baby Conner Peterson was found, which turned out to be the day they found Laci. This May, I couldn't help but think of them at D's high school graduation.
The same month as my Journey also 6. She’s so sweet, so loving and so innocent. She still wonders into our room and crawls in between me and her dad in the wee hours of almost every morning. She feels safe between me and her daddy. I just can’t understand.
They all deserve to be safe and loved. This society has completely collapsed. The amount of children being abused and murdered is staggering. Now our government is murdering our kids via covid to top it off. Its absolutely despicable. Other countries reconstructed their classrooms with plexiglass and they do temp checks and other measures to keep their children safe but not America. We didn't do crap to protect our kids and now they are dying.

I lived in the bay area when the Peterson case was going on, I hated looking into the bay waters, knowing what was found there. I've since moved away, but it still haunts me.
It feels kind of silly, but you mentioning that Zoey was enrolled in dance classes is what broke me. I am going into my third year as a dance teacher, and I cant even imagine how heartbroken I’d be if something like this happened to one of the little girls I teach. I dont think I’d ever recover. I hope little Zoey is dancing in the clouds.
A dance instructor friend of mine had something similar happen to one of her students. Girl's mother was brutally beheaded Infront of her, that baby was 5 years old and was locked in that bloodbath for almost 2 days. My friend couldn't look at her students, see the gap where she used to stand without breaking down. Don't ever tell me teachers don't love their students, it's a job you do for the love of your charges
That was the part that finally made me crack and start crying, yeah. But I'm so glad that we can know and celebrate the lives of Megan and her children being knowing these things about them.

We had an "annihilator murder" in my town when I was about 8 or 9, the youngest son was one year older than me and we went to the same school. The parents were going through a divorce and living apart. The father shot his family in their sleep, I suppose he had a key to her new flat. He killed the dog as well. It was really bizarre, a week later they had a police man come and explain everything to us, and he told us the caliber of the rifle. I slept with my door locked for years after that bc I was scared that my dad would murder me in my bed (even though he would never do anything like that), it made us all a little less trusting, I think. He shot himself too after he called the cops though, so it wasn't like this. Good video as usual, thanks.

The man was obviously not trained in how to explain a murder to kids, and I think what we got was too much for 8-10 year olds to handle. I doubt the teachers expected it.

I'm from Orlando Florida and I went to SOOOO many birthday parties of kids who lived in Celebration and even back then at age 8 I always found that whole place really unsettling and creepy lol. Reminds me of one of those "perfect" neighborhoods from the twilight zone
I heard a condensed version of this story. When you talk about these people, I feel like I know them so well. You're an incredible story teller Stephanie! I've a friend who moved to FL because of Lyme disease. The weather makes a huge difference in how she feels.
My son is 14 and has had Lyme disease and it's impact since he was 10. It is not easy to "cure." Once it goes too far it's pretty much forever with you. We did not know what was making him sick for over a year. His bubbly, happy, outgoing personality has been destroyed by this not to mention the physical toll. I recognize this is just a footnote in today's story. I just can understand why she was willing to move so far and uproot the family just to feel better.
One of my best friends has been heavily effected by Lyme disease. He was diagnosed six years ago and still cannot eat red meat and is in and out of the hospital. Sending your family love!
I lived near celebration and experienced the fake snow one Christmas. It's soap bubbles that fall from a sprinkler type setup. It sticks to your hair, clothes, and skin. I couldn't get to a shower fast enough. Sort of the same feeling after listening to this story. :(
Yes, we have gone in past during Christmas time and did the whole little “train” ride and kids did the “ice skating”. It’s a cute scene, but we watch the “snow” from sidelines. We use to have our Xmas eve dinner at restaurant there too. Sad that this happened in Celebration or anywhere else. Just a tragic event

I have driven through celebration. The lawns all look perfectly alike, everything including where garbage cans are placed are the same, in some neighborhoods the houses look exactly the same. Celebration reminded me of the movie ‘The Stepford Wives.’
I've seen this case covered by another RUclipsr but the way you tell the story is 100 times better. I live in the Orlando area and I never knew the story behind Celebration. I love the detail you add in your videos. Thank you for being so good at what you do!
I am a longtime friend of this family.... I am 44yrs old and have been close friends with the family since I was 8yrs old. This whole situation still is so heartbreaking and devastating! I literally spoke to Tony a month before this all happened and had ZERO clue that anything like this would even happen. I can't believe someone that I trusted, and looked up to could turn out to do this. Meg was such a sweet person and the children were so amazing... I still cry over the loss and my heart still hurts for the families that I am still close with.... Just horrific...
Oh man, that's so sad and difficult to deal with. It always breaks my heart when people who knew the victims and/or perpetrators comment on these videos and it reminds me how far the ripple effects of a crime like homicide can travel. It's not just the immediate family that it touched by these acts of violence but friends, coworkers, acquaintances who interacted with them at some point in time... That's why it's so important for true crime content creators to be respectful, truthful, and honoring of the victims (I think Stephanie gets all this right.) Because any time someone who knew these people might come across the video. I'm sorry for your loss and hope you're doing ok.
Stephanie, I didn't think I could adore your channel any more than I already do, but when you included a description of Breezy's personality along with the rest of the family, that took it to a new level for me. I really appreciated that. The murders of Megan, Aleksander, Tyler and Zoe are heartbreaking and unfathomable, but when an animal gets killed as well, that is the last straw to my soul! Thank you for being a voice for Breezy too.

But I figure at least I'm on the right end of the spectrum--having too much empathy (if that's possible) and not the other, psychopathic end! Stephanie covered another case where a dog was locked in a hot bathroom after a son murdered his parents and that continues to haunt me to this day--even though the dog survived! Extra layer of evil indeed.
As someone who was born and raised in Orlando, we NEVER went to celebration. Worked for the mouse for 3 years as well, celebration always had creepy vibes and we never went there
I have to take my baby to a doctor in Celebration. Definitely very eerie driving through there. Tons of buildings and townhomes but you almost never see anyone outside aside from construction workers

@@shelleyconnolly5065 Sadly I don't think this case was about abuse as much as it was a about a man cracking under the pressure of trying to live beyond his means. He was spending so much money to live the picture "perfect" life, wound up in a hole of debt, theft, and an FBI investigation, and didn't want to admit his failure to his wife and kids. He's not the only prideful moron to do it either. It's the twisted idea that you'd rather slay your family to "spare" them from shame than admit you failed.
I live in the exact opposite of Celebration (house on a mountain, no neighbors for miles, what's a lawn, moose in the front yard kind of deal) and I think I'd go insane if I had to live in such a manufactured area

I remember in elementary school learning about ecosystems, our teacher took us outside to the field and woods to show us about ecosystems and how it all works. I thought that was pretty awesome and something I definitely remember 25 years later
I feel like I have to preface this by saying OF COURSE the murder of the family is the most important and horrifying aspect of this story. That being said, I truly appreciate that stephanie,and most other people telling this story, include breezy in the death count. Often in these stories the dogs or animals killed are a complete afterthought and honestly I think that just gives a little mercy to the killer. In my opinion he should be held accountable for every single life he took that day.
Here's another interesting fact about Celebration, Florida. Apparently one of the first families/ people to live in celebration was John Titor, as in "the time traveler"John Titor when his IP address was pulled from the Art Bell forums back in the day.
Stephanie this one is the hardest one for me to watch as I went to high school with BOTH Tony and Megan. My dad also worked for years with Megan's Mom. This tragedy hurts our town in such a way I can't express. (Yet, this is not the first tragedy like this to rock this small town. )

I wore it for 2 months then all of a sudden my underarms started breaking out and itching and stinging. I spoke to them and they said I am likely allergic to the bicarb soda. If I send them back they will send me the ones without bicarb. I just can’t believe I wore it with no problems for two months and now can’t. 😞

I had a bad experience with a controlling HOA neighborhood once and Celebration to me seems like HOA on crack and steroids!!! They OWN you!! You better have your lawn, hone, decorations, etc done right. Trim that grass with scissors. No Christmas bulbs out. No cars allowed to break down. No "life" stuff allowed to happen. I can't imagine!!! (Not to mention the cost)

@rachel ducey the entire trial is on RUclips it’s worth watching! He takes the stand and it’s the most unreal thing I’ve ever watched! He at one point tells the judge when objections were thrown because every question he had a 5 min story which every time it included how great he was and when talking about the previous nights dinner he even says “I didn’t eat because I had a shake I was watching my weight and had lost 10 pounds already” another point he is fake crying which all he does is scrunches his eyebrows and at one point he said “can I have a minute I’m just a mess I need to get myself together” I felt like Ashton Kutcher was going to jump out saying it was an episode of punked when it came to him taking the stand! It was insane! He talks one way on direct but when cross starts the female prosecutor starts her questioning he goes from so upset and unable to contain himself to an attitude from hell like 0-100 real quick but everytime he talks he has to praise himself! It’s insane
I just cannot with this case. It's heartbreaking, and this is something that I feel like I say for so so many cases. I just...started tearing up listening to this. Thank for also being vulnerable and open with us, it makes this all the more real and palpable. I love the way that you bring these cases to us, Stephanie, you are such a role model for me as a small True Crime RUclipsr, thank you for that.
Nobody really brings these stories to life and makes you feel such a deep sadness for the loss of these lives like Stephanie. It makes such a huge impact emotionally and I think it should. Too many youtubers almost make a joke out of horrible murders by making some cutesy theme around it or they just speak about it like it’s no big deal- or worse, they crack jokes while talking about these cases. The comments follow suit on those videos and are always full of jokes and disrespect; no empathy to be found most of the time. I find it so disrespectful and it makes me sad those videos get so many views. Glad to see Stephanie is doing so well because she truly does the victims justice.
Definitely educational & lessons learned here. Megan stays home in a "Disney Life Neighborhood"- not feeling well- not working- up scale life style- Yes baking & taking care of kids (which many women including myself do after a work day) But the man working two businesses, traveling back & forth, dealing with so much, desperate on finances, in over his head, Just might snap. My son does the same and I worry about suicide. They cant just divorce due to alimony and court systems. So sad But this is not the answer! Just a lesson learned

@@luolumen6816 Absolutely not! He deserves the death penalty. Watching cycles in this repetitive behavior all over the country and wondering why so many people snap. So many all over the country as partners go to such extremes. There are patterns that neighbors, friends & family could help acknowledge, maybe avoid and Lessons to be learned.
I’m sorry, maybe it’s because I’m a black woman, but any place claiming to capture the wholesomeness of the 50s just gives me serious “yikes” energy. I know what the intent is, but the idea that these “good values” prevent bad things from happening and fosters good relationships in the community rings false to me. The only way to get a real small town feel is to live in an actual small town and be invested in your community...like the one they lived in in Connecticut. I’m familiar with the area they lived in and it definitely is more of an authentic, wholesome town than Celebration. Just my opinion of course!
How about "neighbor- hoods" in Africa: Chad, Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia...etc. No community spirit. Just humans trying to survive their tyrant leaders.
Seems like everyone who has a ‘relationship others envy’ in these crime stories are always the ones who have the worst toxic dynamics behind the scenes!!!
Exactly it's like looking at FB where ppls lives are supposedly perfect. Nobodies life kids relationship is perfect...it's just ppl wanting to portray it that way or believe....what goes on behind closed doors and the amount of dysfunction ppl are prepared to accept to look like they are perfect is alarming. Such a sad sad story ...we must always use our gut feeling and see those red flags.
When I was teaching, at Parents Evening , it was always the really 'lovey, dovey ,perfect parents' whose kids would blurt out stuff about constant rows & obviously unhappy adults during day to day lessons & interaction. I guess the Parents Evening performance was an over compensating thing.
I have never known anyone to actually post on social media how depressed they are bc their family life is struggling. Finances are struggling, marriage is failing. Nobody is going to do it so nobody is ever aware bc social media presents what people only portray

I grew up in Connecticut my whole life (my sister now lives in Colchester) and recently moved to Florida a little over a year ago (I go to Disney very often) I feel very connected to this case! I happened to be in the area this weekend and drove by the Todt house in Celebration…VERY eerie in a “picture perfect” neighborhood. Just so sad & heartbreaking

i usually don't cry with true crime videos as i've experienced loss in life and it has numbed me a bit but hearing you describe the personalities of the kids and their awesome momma broke me. I will never understand why bad things happen to good people
You do such a great job of humanizing the people you speak about. I think it’s easier for people to see these stories as just stories but these are real people not characters for entertainment. It is so important to see the human within the victim and realize this could be any of us.
I was at Celebration in 1999 or 2000, it was so beautiful, they have this magic fountain where the water shoots out of the ground in all different places and the kids can run in and play in the water. We had a great time in this town, the shops and restaurants were amazing too, would love to have lived there but it's so expensive.
I lived with Lyme for at least a decade before they even bothered to test me for it. By the time they caught it, it had progressed to the point that it had caused fairly significant joint and nerve damage, a heart murmur, all kinds of GI and cognitive issues, and my bloodwork was showing early signs of organ failure. A 1 month course of doxycycline did NOT relieve most of my symptoms, but I was told that's the standard treatment and there was no reason I should still feel like shit, so it must all be in my head. It forced me to drop out of college my junior year, ruined my finances, and years later I'm still struggling to be independently stable and dealing with daily symptoms that flare up and worsen for any number of reasons. But it's all in my head, so... 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
5 years ago I was in perfect health, then I got bit by a tick. Two weeks later I had tick paralysis and face planted at the top of my stairs. I knew very little about Lyme, but I knew of it. I got all the proper testing and came back with Lyme and 3 co-infections. I did the antibiotic and antiviral regimen twice. Did one “alternative” treatment. Did one herbal protocol and I’m starting a new one. I’ve changed my diet and everything else in my lifestyle and I’m still battling every day just to get out of bed. I have arthritis in every joint, my organs have various issues, GI problems, neurological issues, nerve damage, and I have compromised immunity because of this disease. But if you ask any one of the many doctors I have seen…I am completely cured of Lyme. It is an absolutely horrible disease and very expensive because health insurance companies will not cover Lyme treatments beyond the antibiotics. I hope your journey gets easier.
You are not crazy and it is not in your head. I also suffer from the after effects from Lyme's. It took 5 years before they even treated me for it so I have nerve damage. It affects the mind and the body. I am now 1 year post treatment and PT, OT and cognitive be able to process the losses I have had and an unknown future with this disease have helped but I am always at least a 2 1/2 on the pain scale. Lucky for me I have a family support system that have been educated on the syptoms and problems I have and that I will have after effects my whole life. I wish for you all the recovery possible. I am now a Fibromyalgia Warrior due to the Lyme's but I can do hard things and so can you. Love and support girl you got this.
I'm so sorry you are going through this! I do believe that some doctors forget that their isn't one solution to one problem because everyone is different. It's easier to put blame on the patient when basic treatment doesn't 100% work and not deal with any side effects left behind. Instead of looking for something that might help. I've had doctors like this and its one of the things that motivated me to want to pursue a career as a Doctor. Trauma surgery is the main interest but includes LOTS of aftercare and I can't understand how some doctors just become careless regardless of their speciality.
The intuition is amazing in close families - particularly when family members feel that it’s not their person writing - though it’s also just breaking of patterns that they pick up on. If only we could go to the police with our intuitions. Such a sad story - I can’t even imagine.
Crazy how you don’t have to know a family on a personal level to feel the sadness and heartbreak for their loss. I cried with the watts case and now am crying for this family 💜 May they rest in paradise

aww man seeing that sheriff reading out that statement really choked me up. We always of course feel sorry for the victims of the crime but it has to be sad that i feel so sorry for the officers that have to deal with the aftermath of these crimes such as finding the children and having to relay what they have seen have to carry that trauma forever. They are so brave and do such an amazing job to bring justice to the perpetrators of these crimes. Bless those people i hope they can heal from what they have seen.

I'm 33 & have lived in Connecticut my whole life, albeit different areas. I lived in Andover (population: ~3,000😶) for ~15 years until a few years ago, which is only one town away from Colchester & you 100% nailed your description. I think a lot of people can relate to rolling their eyes every time someone "gets it wrong," which seems to happen more often than not. I know it's a smaller detail in this video, but it made a difference to me. Thank you for getting it right!

It’s tragic, unfair, madness and heartbreaking! But it’s the victims story that deserves to be told and bring much need awareness of the tragedy. This is already breaking my heart and its only the first part 😭 it is absolutely terrifying to know that this is something that happens to "normal, happy" families. I haven't even heard of this case so this is wild for me, all I keep seeing is the Watts 😥 I don't even have all the info yet (I'll wait for the next part) but I already don't think Megan did this, if she did why would you live inside the house with your decomposing children if you were a loving father? I hate it when they do these horrific things and then blame their wives who firstly aren't here to defend themselves, but more importantly were victims themselves. 💔💔 I am terrified of whats going to come in Part 2, but I'm here for it.
Because there's no such thing as normal. The more people chase a facade of normal, successful, happy, etc the closer they are to the facade falling apart and becoming a perpetrator or victim themselves.

You have definitely found your "calling" You're a natural born storyteller, and have a fantastic way of sharing & explaining horrific situations, & accounts while being so extremely, carefully respectful of the entire subject matter, the victims, the surviving family members & loved ones. I how you always try to find that sometimes elusive "why" the situation happened in the 1st place. You are careful to let the facts of the case speak for themselves while trying to give as much life to the facts as possible so that everyone who listens to your podcast/video are so immersed in your storytelling abilities that somehow almost magically & virtually transports us into sort of like flies on the wall & being able to watch the whole real life scenario unfold...well too a point without be extremely unnecessarily graphic or invasive moments in the victims final most private personal moments. I truly hope that all of the family and friends of ALL of the victims stories you have told over the years realize how much respect and dignity you try to give them, and their surviving family members/loved ones. You aren't one of those content creators who is just chases sensationalism & unnecessary graphic content all for clout attention & followers and ultimately money Please don't stop anytime soon. If you find that you need time away from investigating, amassing forming & telling all of these very important but also very emotionally mentally sensitive & draining stories, then take the time you need to recharge repair reinvigorate yourself. I know that I for one understand as I'm certain countless of your other followers understand as well, that if you need "you" time to recharge your mental emotional health and well-being..then take it!! It really can't be easy doing what you do, especially at the level you do it at. With the compassion consideration respect dignity & professionalism that you bring, instill, portray in every case. It has to take a toll on you. People need to remember & realize that if you're just as human as they are. If you're not at your best mentally & emotionally then you can't possibly do what you do to the best of your ability... Please remember to take care of yourself, your emotional and mental health. It's important not just for your work here, but for you yourself and your immediate private personal & family life. Once in a drunken rage my father said it takes EVERYTHING not to kill us. I remember begging my mom to leave him. He died 7 years ago and to this day I still run into people who knew him at work and talk about how AMAZING he was, kind and lo. But to mom and I he was a monster

Same. My dad was crazy and abusive, always threatening to kill people and bragging about it. We were waiting for the day he would hurt us. Everyone from the outside thinks he’s amazing and so helpful and nice… it’s sad to say but the day he dies will be the most freeing day I’ll experience.

@@hannah_gurumi5426 Same here. Police officers see so much devastation on the job, so to see them break down, you know it is incredibly heartfelt & gut wrenching for them.
It's been almost 6 years now but my husband was depressed. He would stay up late at night drinking beer and stuck in his head. I tried everything to try to pull him out of his depression. He would go to bed with me at night and then get up after I fell asleep and keep drinking. He was hopeless and negative about everything even though we had a pretty great life. I honestly felt I like he was going to kill me, our kids, and then himself. I would be sooo tired every night worrying about him and crying with him because of how negative his outlook on life was. I set up a doctor appointment for him on the 6th and he committed suicide on the 5th. Whenever I hear these stories they hit so close to my heart. Idk how these women felt or kids but I know what the fear feels like trying to help and support someone you love while fearing for your life and the life of your children. Mental health is not a joke and I hope it continues to get easier to get help!

I was a sort of similar situation. Married to an alcoholic, sounds a lot like your husband did. I always thought he or I would have snapped and we both would have ended up dead. Thankfully we never had kids. Crazy thing was, I was the one that didn’t want kids. He did, but I refused. I wasn’t going to let him destroy an innocent child’s life.
He ended up dying too but it wasn’t intentional, just mixed downers and went to sleep one night and didn’t wake up.

I agree, I also do believe he only took the medicine at the point of which the police arrived and he knew they would be entering. I may be thinking too much into it but this way he would have known the police would have a responsibility to get him to an emergency room

A lot of people i feel dont understand why true crime IS important to hear about. Why want to hear about terrible things that are gross/scary? I like this channel so much because to me its about learning more about the patterns, to maybe stop furure catastrophic things from happening. We can't expect to change anything if we refuse to hear what's going on. I've learned so much since following this channel, and others. I really appreciate you making videos to share these stories.

No excuse for what they did. But women need to learn a few things on both cases. And where do you come from, when you say "too much chidren"? Megan had only three, which is a pretty normal 'amount' to have in modern familys. Like with the Watts case, this family seems to have been living beyond their means and once they reach the point it can no longer be maintained, the father/ husband has a mental breakdown. I believe that the façade of being happy and successful is, in some cases, more important than life itself. Watts and Todt both chose to destroy their families rather than face the hard reality together with them that life is sometimes messy and humiliating.
there is nothing humiliating in admiting that you aren't handling the pressure of supporting your family by your own, downgrading to somewhere affordable to you and working with what you actually have instead of pilling on debt, it's the notion that if you can't have the perfect life then you've failed that drives people to do horrendus stuff like this sometimes.

@@korva_puusti Yes, I had a close male relative on my white side who overdosed. I don’t know if it is accidental or deliberate. He had been threatening suicide because he felt he hadn’t achieved enough by his age. Before that, that whole side of the family were always measuring achievements, and I would feel intimidated showing up at holidays if I hadn’t done anything amazing. Since the tragedy, 4 of us (that I know of) have been involved in addiction recovery, all of us are talking more, and it has felt more welcoming to go and visit, though attitude do crop up from time to time.
When the officer could barely finish reading Zoey’s birthday , my heart sank even more. Rest In Peace to this beautiful family who didn’t deserve this horrific end. 🕊

I appreciate how you included Breezy as a part of the family and not just a dog. Animals truly are a part of the family they belong to. Alot of people don't see it that way , and I'm glad to see someone who does. AND how the Sherrif included her, I was surprised to see that he was also charged with animal cruelty. He most definitely should have been! Unfortunately in my state to this day Animal cruelty isn't a felony , and people barely get jail time for it

My dog was my lifesaver when I miscarried. He never left my side and he was what got me through my grief. He was family. We lost him two years ago, age 11, and he'd been our boy from 7 weeks. Still miss my golden ball of fluff. We've recently adopted my son's 4 month old Pit Bull pup, as he had to move states. She's going to wiggle into our hearts just as deeply. 💕💯

We live in WA state and my husband has been gone from Connecticut since he was 15 but he still had a hard time imagining how Tony or anyone for that matter could do that to their family. And just for shits and giggles (SMFH) he takes police and stand buyers and the whole town basically 🙄 on a Oj Simpson like getaway attempt through the city. I'd really love to hear Ashley's story told with the loyalty and compassion that her and the children deserve. Her father, Steve Maze has done much to honor her and his grandchildren and I know he would love to hear you honor her too.

I am so sorry to hear about that hun my cousin was stalked by this guy that was on probation in California and he came to Pa with a gun and held my cousin at gun point her friend escaped and the cops showed up before he killed her they could of saved her they watched him drag her out of the house and bang her head off her car door and it knocked her out he drug her up the little hill and behind the shed and blew her brains out then turned the gun on himself took the coward wat out

@Lissi Kat - It is a bizarre place FOR SURE. I walked around it for about an hour. Shopkeepers stood outside their stores and would "tip" their hat to you as you walked by. It had kind of a 1950's feel to it. Artificial is a GREAT adjective to describe it.
This case takes the air out of my lungs. I just don't understand. So much light, that the world desperately needs, snuffed out.
I was actually living in Celebration when this happened. It was devastating, seeing the house tapped off knowing what happened was terribly sad. Definitely changed the community.

My Daniel was born the day after baby Conner Peterson was found, which turned out to be the day they found Laci. This May, I couldn't help but think of them at D's high school graduation.
The same month as my Journey also 6. She’s so sweet, so loving and so innocent. She still wonders into our room and crawls in between me and her dad in the wee hours of almost every morning. She feels safe between me and her daddy. I just can’t understand.
They all deserve to be safe and loved. This society has completely collapsed. The amount of children being abused and murdered is staggering. Now our government is murdering our kids via covid to top it off. Its absolutely despicable. Other countries reconstructed their classrooms with plexiglass and they do temp checks and other measures to keep their children safe but not America. We didn't do crap to protect our kids and now they are dying.

It feels kind of silly, but you mentioning that Zoey was enrolled in dance classes is what broke me. I am going into my third year as a dance teacher, and I cant even imagine how heartbroken I’d be if something like this happened to one of the little girls I teach. I dont think I’d ever recover. I hope little Zoey is dancing in the clouds.
A dance instructor friend of mine had something similar happen to one of her students. Girl's mother was brutally beheaded Infront of her, that baby was 5 years old and was locked in that bloodbath for almost 2 days. My friend couldn't look at her students, see the gap where she used to stand without breaking down. Don't ever tell me teachers don't love their students, it's a job you do for the love of your charges
That was the part that finally made me crack and start crying, yeah. But I'm so glad that we can know and celebrate the lives of Megan and her children being knowing these things about them.

We had an "annihilator murder" in my town when I was about 8 or 9, the youngest son was one year older than me and we went to the same school. The parents were going through a divorce and living apart. The father shot his family in their sleep, I suppose he had a key to her new flat. He killed the dog as well. It was really bizarre, a week later they had a police man come and explain everything to us, and he told us the caliber of the rifle. I slept with my door locked for years after that bc I was scared that my dad would murder me in my bed (even though he would never do anything like that), it made us all a little less trusting, I think. He shot himself too after he called the cops though, so it wasn't like this. Good video as usual, thanks.

@@DeniseRene407 I have no idea, I suppose the school thought it would give us closure or something to know. It makes it even more nonsensical when you put it like that. The man was obviously not trained in how to explain a murder to kids, and I think what we got was too much for 8-10 year olds to handle. I doubt the teachers expected it.

I'm from Orlando Florida and I went to SOOOO many birthday parties of kids who lived in Celebration and even back then at age 8 I always found that whole place really unsettling and creepy lol. Reminds me of one of those "perfect" neighborhoods from the twilight zone

I heard a condensed version of this story. When you talk about these people, I feel like I know them so well. You're an incredible story teller Stephanie! I've a friend who moved to FL because of Lyme disease. The weather makes a huge difference in how she feels.
My son is 14 and has had Lyme disease and it's impact since he was 10. It is not easy to "cure." Once it goes too far it's pretty much forever with you. We did not know what was making him sick for over a year. His bubbly, happy, outgoing personality has been destroyed by this not to mention the physical toll.
I recognize this is just a footnote in today's story. I just can understand why she was willing to move so far and uproot the family just to feel better.

I lived near celebration and experienced the fake snow one Christmas. It's soap bubbles that fall from a sprinkler type setup. It sticks to your hair, clothes, and skin. I couldn't get to a shower fast enough. Sort of the same feeling after listening to this story. :(
Yes, we have gone in past during Christmas time and did the whole little “train” ride and kids did the “ice skating”. It’s a cute scene, but we watch the “snow” from sidelines. We use to have our Xmas eve dinner at restaurant there too. Sad that this happened in Celebration or anywhere else. Just a tragic event

I have driven through celebration. The lawns all look perfectly alike, everything including where garbage cans are placed are the same, in some neighborhoods the houses look exactly the same. Celebration reminded me of the movie ‘The Stepford Wives.’
When Stephanie said they played fake bird sounds in the summer, I got super creeped out.

I am a longtime friend of this family.... I am 44yrs old and have been close friends with the family since I was 8yrs old. This whole situation still is so heartbreaking and devastating! I literally spoke to Tony a month before this all happened and had ZERO clue that anything like this would even happen. I can't believe someone that I trusted, and looked up to could turn out to do this. Meg was such a sweet person and the children were so amazing... I still cry over the loss and my heart still hurts for the families that I am still close with.... Just horrific...

Oh man, that's so sad and difficult to deal with. It always breaks my heart when people who knew the victims and/or perpetrators comment on these videos and it reminds me how far the ripple effects of a crime like homicide can travel. It's not just the immediate family that it touched by these acts of violence but friends, coworkers, acquaintances who interacted with them at some point in time... That's why it's so important for true crime content creators to be respectful, truthful, and honoring of the victims (I think Stephanie gets all this right.) Because any time someone who knew these people might come across the video.

Stephanie, I didn't think I could adore your channel any more than I already do, but when you included a description of Breezy's personality along with the rest of the family, that took it to a new level for me. I really appreciated that. The murders of Megan, Aleksander, Tyler and Zoe are heartbreaking and unfathomable, but when an animal gets killed as well, that is the last straw to my soul! Stephanie covered another case where a dog was locked in a hot bathroom after a son murdered his parents and that continues to haunt me to this day--even though the dog survived! Extra layer of evil indeed.

I lived there. It’s not creepy. Materialistic maybe, but not creepy.
Definitely has a similar feel to Harmony near Kissimmee. I feel like they go to great lengths to make it seem perfect and promote the community aspect

He was spending so much money to live the picture "perfect" life, wound up in a hole of debt, theft, and an FBI investigation, and didn't want to admit his failure to his wife and kids. He's not the only prideful moron to do it either. It's the twisted idea that you'd rather slay your family to "spare" them from shame than admit you failed.

I remember in elementary school learning about ecosystems, our teacher took us outside to the field and woods to show us about ecosystems and how it all works. I thought that was pretty awesome and something I definitely remember 25 years later
I took Ecology in high school and we did outside study and creek studies. It was one of the best courses I have ever taken!
I feel like I have to preface this by saying OF COURSE the murder of the family is the most important and horrifying aspect of this story. That being said, I truly appreciate that stephanie,and most other people telling this story, include breezy in the death count. Often in these stories the dogs or animals killed are a complete afterthought and honestly I think that just gives a little mercy to the killer. In my opinion he should be held accountable for every single life he took that day.

I had a bad experience with a controlling HOA neighborhood once and Celebration to me seems like HOA on crack and steroids!!! They OWN you!! You better have your lawn, hone, decorations, etc done right. Trim that grass with scissors. No Christmas bulbs out. No cars allowed to break down. No "life" stuff allowed to happen. I can't imagine!!! (Not to mention the cost)

This has me shook. I just finished part one and I’m sitting here in silence trying to process this tragedy. Literally no one can be trusted, damn.
@rachel ducey the entire trial is on RUclips it’s worth watching! He takes the stand and it’s the most unreal thing I’ve ever watched! He at one point tells the judge when objections were thrown because every question he had a 5 min story which every time it included how great he was and when talking about the previous nights dinner he even says “I didn’t eat because I had a shake I was watching my weight and had lost 10 pounds already” another point he is fake crying which all he does is scrunches his eyebrows and at one point he said “can I have a minute I’m just a mess I need to get myself together” I felt like Ashton Kutcher was going to jump out saying it was an episode of punked when it came to him taking the stand! It was insane! He talks one way on direct but when cross starts the female prosecutor starts her questioning he goes from so upset and unable to contain himself to an attitude from hell like 0-100 real quick but everytime he talks he has to praise himself! It’s insane
I just cannot with this case. It's heartbreaking, and this is something that I feel like I say for so so many cases. I just...started tearing up listening to this. Thank for also being vulnerable and open with us, it makes this all the more real and palpable. I love the way that you bring these cases to us, Stephanie, you are such a role model for me as a small True Crime RUclipsr, thank you for that.
Nobody really brings these stories to life and makes you feel such a deep sadness for the loss of these lives like Stephanie. It makes such a huge impact emotionally and I think it should. Too many youtubers almost make a joke out of horrible murders by making some cutesy theme around it or they just speak about it like it’s no big deal- or worse, they crack jokes while talking about these cases. The comments follow suit on those videos and are always full of jokes and disrespect; no empathy to be found most of the time. I find it so disrespectful and it makes me sad those videos get so many views. Glad to see Stephanie is doing so well because she truly does the victims justice.

Megan stays home in a "Disney Life Neighborhood"- not feeling well- not working- up scale life style- Yes baking & taking care of kids (which many women including myself do after a work day) But the man working two businesses, traveling back & forth, dealing with so much, desperate on finances, in over his head, Just might snap. My son does the same and I worry about suicide. They cant just divorce due to alimony and court systems. So sad But this is not the answer! Just a lesson learned

@@luolumen6816 Absolutely not! He deserves the death penalty. Watching cycles in this repetitive behavior all over the country and wondering why so many people snap. So many all over the country as partners go to such extremes. There are patterns that neighbors, friends & family could help acknowledge, maybe avoid and Lessons to be learned.
I’m sorry, maybe it’s because I’m a black woman, but any place claiming to capture the wholesomeness of the 50s just gives me serious “yikes” energy. I know what the intent is, but the idea that these “good values” prevent bad things from happening and fosters good relationships in the community rings false to me. The only way to get a real small town feel is to live in an actual small town and be invested in your community...like the one they lived in in Connecticut. I’m familiar with the area they lived in and it definitely is more of an authentic, wholesome town than Celebration. Just my opinion of course!

Exactly it's like looking at FB where ppls lives are supposedly perfect. Nobodies life kids relationship is perfect...it's just ppl wanting to portray it that way or believe....what goes on behind closed doors and the amount of dysfunction ppl are prepared to accept to look like they are perfect is alarming. Such a sad sad story ...we must always use our gut feeling and see those red flags.

When I was teaching, at Parents Evening , it was always the really 'lovey, dovey ,perfect parents' whose kids would blurt out stuff about constant rows & obviously unhappy adults during day to day lessons & interaction. I guess the Parents Evening performance was an over compensating thing.
I have never known anyone to actually post on social media how depressed they are bc their family life is struggling. Finances are struggling, marriage is failing. Nobody is going to do it so nobody is ever aware bc social media presents what people only portray

I grew up in Connecticut my whole life (my sister now lives in Colchester) and recently moved to Florida a little over a year ago (I go to Disney very often) I feel very connected to this case! I happened to be in the area this weekend and drove by the Todt house in Celebration…VERY eerie in a “picture perfect” neighborhood. Just so sad & heartbreaking

i usually don't cry with true crime videos as i've experienced loss in life and it has numbed me a bit but hearing you describe the personalities of the kids and their awesome momma broke me. I will never understand why bad things happen to good people

You do such a great job of humanizing the people you speak about. I think it’s easier for people to see these stories as just stories but these are real people not characters for entertainment. It is so important to see the human within the victim and realize this could be any of us.
I was at Celebration in 1999 or 2000, it was so beautiful, they have this magic fountain where the water shoots out of the ground in all different places and the kids can run in and play in the water. We had a great time in this town, the shops and restaurants were amazing too, would love to have lived there but it's so expensive.
I lived with Lyme for at least a decade before they even bothered to test me for it. By the time they caught it, it had progressed to the point that it had caused fairly significant joint and nerve damage, a heart murmur, all kinds of GI and cognitive issues, and my bloodwork was showing early signs of organ failure. A 1 month course of doxycycline did NOT relieve most of my symptoms, but I was told that's the standard treatment and there was no reason I should still feel like shit, so it must all be in my head. It forced me to drop out of college my junior year, ruined my finances, and years later I'm still struggling to be independently stable and dealing with daily symptoms that flare up and worsen for any number of reasons. But it's all in my head, so... 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
That’s crazy! I didn’t know Lyme disease could affect you that badly 😳
5 years ago I was in perfect health, then I got bit by a tick. Two weeks later I had tick paralysis and face planted at the top of my stairs. I knew very little about Lyme, but I knew of it. I got all the proper testing and came back with Lyme and 3 co-infections. I did the antibiotic and antiviral regimen twice. Did one “alternative” treatment. Did one herbal protocol and I’m starting a new one. I’ve changed my diet and everything else in my lifestyle and I’m still battling every day just to get out of bed. I have arthritis in every joint, my organs have various issues, GI problems, neurological issues, nerve damage, and I have compromised immunity because of this disease. But if you ask any one of the many doctors I have seen…I am completely cured of Lyme. It is an absolutely horrible disease and very expensive because health insurance companies will not cover Lyme treatments beyond the antibiotics. I hope your journey gets easier.

You are not crazy and it is not in your head. I also suffer from the after effects from Lyme's. It took 5 years before they even treated me for it so I have nerve damage. It affects the mind and the body. I am now 1 year post treatment and PT, OT and cognitive be able to process the losses I have had and an unknown future with this disease have helped but I am always at least a 2 1/2 on the pain scale. Lucky for me I have a family support system that have been educated on the syptoms and problems I have and that I will have after effects my whole life. I wish for you all the recovery possible. I am now a Fibromyalgia Warrior due to the Lyme's but I can do hard things and so can you. Love and support girl you got this.
I'm so sorry you are going through this! I do believe that some doctors forget that their isn't one solution to one problem because everyone is different. It's easier to put blame on the patient when basic treatment doesn't 100% work and not deal with any side effects left behind. Instead of looking for something that might help. I've had doctors like this and its one of the things that motivated me to want to pursue a career as a Doctor. Trauma surgery is the main interest but includes LOTS of aftercare and I can't understand how some doctors just become careless regardless of their speciality.
The intuition is amazing in close families - particularly when family members feel that it’s not their person writing - though it’s also just breaking of patterns that they pick up on. If only we could go to the police with our intuitions. Such a sad story - I can’t even imagine.
Crazy how you don’t have to know a family on a personal level to feel the sadness and heartbreak for their loss. I cried with the watts case and now am crying for this family 💜 May they rest in paradise

aww man seeing that sheriff reading out that statement really choked me up. We always of course feel sorry for the victims of the crime but it has to be sad that i feel so sorry for the officers that have to deal with the aftermath of these crimes such as finding the children and having to relay what they have seen have to carry that trauma forever. They are so brave and do such an amazing job to bring justice to the perpetrators of these crimes. Bless those people i hope they can heal from what they have seen.

I'm 33 & have lived in Connecticut my whole life, albeit different areas. I lived in Andover (population: ~3,000😶) for ~15 years until a few years ago, which is only one town away from Colchester & you 100% nailed your description. I think a lot of people can relate to rolling their eyes every time someone "gets it wrong," which seems to happen more often than not. I know it's a smaller detail in this video, but it made a difference to me. Thank you for getting it right!

This is already breaking my heart and its only the first part 😭 it is absolutely terrifying to know that this is something that happens to "normal, happy" families. I haven't even heard of this case so this is wild for me, all I keep seeing is the Watts 😥 I don't even have all the info yet (I'll wait for the next part) but I already don't think Megan did this, if she did why would you live inside the house with your decomposing children if you were a loving father? I hate it when they do these horrific things and then blame their wives who firstly aren't here to defend themselves, but more importantly were victims themselves. 💔💔 I am terrified of whats going to come in Part 2, but I'm here for it.
Because there's no such thing as normal. The more people chase a facade of normal, successful, happy, etc the closer they are to the facade falling apart and becoming a perpetrator or victim themselves.

You're a natural born storyteller, and have a fantastic way of sharing & explaining horrific situations, & accounts while being so extremely, carefully respectful of the entire subject matter, the victims, the surviving family members & loved ones.
I how you always try to find that sometimes elusive "why" the situation happened in the 1st place.
You are careful to let the facts of the case speak for themselves while trying to give as much life to the facts as possible so that everyone who listens to your podcast/video are so immersed in your storytelling abilities that somehow almost magically & virtually transports us into sort of like flies on the wall & being able to watch the whole real life scenario unfold...well too a point without be extremely unnecessarily graphic or invasive moments in the victims final most private personal moments. I truly hope that all of the family and friends of ALL of the victims stories you have told over the years realize how much respect and dignity you try to give them, and their surviving family members/loved ones. You aren't one of those content creators who is just chases sensationalism & unnecessary graphic content all for clout attention & followers and ultimately money
Please don't stop anytime soon. If you find that you need time away from investigating, amassing forming & telling all of these very important but also very emotionally mentally sensitive & draining stories, then take the time you need to recharge repair reinvigorate yourself.
I know that I for one understand as I'm certain countless of your other followers understand as well, that if you need "you" time to recharge your mental emotional health and well-being..then take it!! It really can't be easy doing what you do, especially at the level you do it at. With the compassion consideration respect dignity & professionalism that you bring, instill, portray in every case. It has to take a toll on you. People need to remember & realize that if you're just as human as they are. If you're not at your best mentally & emotionally then you can't possibly do what you do to the best of your ability... Please remember to take care of yourself, your emotional and mental health. Thank you so much for covering this. I have not found hardly any podcast coverage on this case and it happened about 10 miles away from me. I used to work in the community, which is a very high-end established community and everyone was shocked and devastated.
