Aliens are not invisible. If we chose to follow the wrong path, we prove Satan's point that we are not intelligent enough to be considered sentient beings, and thus become food. If we chose the right path we prove we can handle the responsibility of eternal life. Until that matter is settled, the aliens will remain in hiding. Our elites are constructing a prison planet with an AI controlled economy, a human farm where the product is meat for export. We have 10 years of war ahead of us, the matter will be resolved around 2030 when they offer us "peace and security" in exchange for all our freedoms and rights. After that, if we chose to agree, the demons of Hell will be released. All those Hollywood films are just a test to see how many get what's going on. The Matrix, Hunger Games,.....they are documentaries about how our future will be. Men in Black even stated it was based on a true story. @@blahblahblah4544 The director, John Carpenter, is definitely not a conservative, but modern day liberals would call him “problematic” or perhaps even “toxic.” The movie is most often viewed as a critique of the Reagan era, but that hasn’t held up in retrospect. Nobody needs subliminal ads to make them procreate. However, you might need such ads or related media to convince them that having a family isn’t worth it. A remake of this movie based on today’s cultural conflict could be really good.
Interesting video as always. I slightly disagree with this one though as I see a clear difference between capitalism and the culture of consumerism. I am a very staunch free market guy but I also think there is a very important critique to be made about how our desire to consume can be unhealthy for people and the earth. That being said, I think some of the blame should be on the consumers themselves and not only the people giving them what they want.
I just read it as anti-consumerism. Walk through a shopping mall with a bunch of apparel stores and see tiny dresses made in China or India, 100% cotton going for $250. And you see photos of celebrities and politicians wearing the brand. I can feel the "CONSUME" "ASSIMILATE," and "FASHION" signs in my peripheral vision. I should mention I don't believe in authorial intent.
You know what else really grinds my gears about all the anti capitalism movies? When you really look at fictional worlds like Blade Runner, They Live, Running Man, and the like, this whole "a world where the rich get richer and poor get poorer" not only makes no sense, it's mathematically unsustainable. How are the rich making all that money if almost everyone is so poor they can't even afford to bathe? Yeah sorry but the "evil corporation" trope fails every time you think about it on a mathmatical level. "Oh companies only care about money and not people and will penny pinch and do anything to make money". So... spending millions of dollars on a private army to run natives off their land will make money how? Now it makes sense for a government to do that but not a corporation. Again I think the problem with a lot of these directors is that they think the American dream is all about "Equality and democracy" but it isn't. The American dream is about pursuing your own goals and happiness.
Congratulations on finding out that capitalism indeed is mathematically unsustainable. Could already have gotten this from the fact that the our wealth rises (but does it really?) all while we're in never seen gloabl debt. Could it be that debt = prosperity and that as long as we increase debt we could prosper under any system? Could it be that the bad thing about capitalism is thar it increases debt not to fuel prosperity into the hand of the general population, could it be that they increase debt to fuel the wealth into the hands of a small capital owning elite all while the rest of us in comparison to our massive wealth increase still is as bad or worse of than people centuries ago?
@@errorcode6168 surplus value is a tax workers pay to capitalists for their kind gesture of letting them work on their property but no only guberment is bad and can impose taxes. Reminds me of something that is highly political now in schools is competitions and trophies. The idea of competitions is to encourage everyone to do their best, and whoever does the best gets rewarded (handsomely, per se). You managed to get children to work harder than they've ever worked before. However, the downside is that some kids (if not all) are going to be losers who didn't get to win. So to protect their feelings there should never be competitions, or everyone gets a trophy. 0 If you look at it from that sense you can see where capitalism is being questioned. Capitalism naturally will reward people who do their best, at the same time engage in the envy of everyone who didn't do as well. We need people to do their best, and the reason why socialist countries collapse is because nobody is allowed to do their best - or at least be rewarded for doing so, which basically deters them from doing it in the first place.
I think that's why union workers tend to suck. The employee that excels gets treated the same as the one who does just enough to not get fired. What's worse is the shitty employee will actually get treated better as long as he started first.
The idea of people being manipulated into consuming goods and feeding into big corporations' wealth is such a lie if you just ask individuals that complain "why do you buy their stuff?" Is it necessary to have a wardrobe filled with clothes? The newest apple products? how about going out and buy your stuff instead of ordering it through amazon? The only thing that is driving this kind of sentiment is envy. You don't look at how good your society is, rather, you only look at how good the richest people in your society are compared to you.
@William Loudermilk They are free to buy. It is call responsability. If you are a idiot, that is your problem. If life give you lemons, you make lemonade. If life give you idiots, you make a society (and it isnt slavary if they give you all in exchange of little).

At least the movie still shows that a lot of humans decide to side with the aliens, and I like the open ending where we don't see what exactly is gonna happen next after the aliens are revealed (will the aliens be defeated, or there's gonna be a Civil War between humans vs alien-supporting humans?). I didn't get the feel that these aliens can do much without their human allies, so I don't fully believe the film is scapegoating the aliens as the source of ALL troubles.
I always heard that the 1980s was an amazing time for America and American morale. I suppose it depends on who you ask. The politics of this country seem to be a pendulum swing. When conservative politics comes in, the people get annoyed with it and push for leftist ideals. When the leftist ideals are popular and mainstream, the people get sick of it and promote more conservative ideals.
Yah that seems to be the case. And bc of our representative democracy we see those swings in 2-4-6-8 year increments depending on the whims of the people. A peaceful overthrow of the previous regime. I’m sitting on the bird like, if you both flap your wings at the same time and work together maybe we can get this bird to fly! But if the bird can’t get off the ground, it also can’t crash so 🤷🏼♀️ dunno where this metaphor is going
At one time the importance of consumerism in capitalism was taught in school. They gave you the information for you to decide if you wanted to partake or not. Now they just teach we are helpless to it and it needs to be destroyed for Mama government.
Nowadays we realised consumerism works only if you have unlimited resources and there are no negative byproducts of it otherwise it is a systemn with tendency to self destruct as we are seeing today not to mention it lead to some pretty bad market practiceses such as planned obsolesence. Or possibly you comment comes from confusion about the use of the term today( which I am reffering to) and the one before 1970s.
"Nada" for an unnamed character, nice...... means literally "nothing". Applied to a drifter.... they are actually calling their main character a nobody. Classy. We regulate peoples' lives through laws because people sometimes misbehave and cause harm. Businesses sometimes misbehave too, so their regulation is absolutely necessary. "They Live" shows a world where "free enterprise" has truly been implemented. i.e. They can do whatever they want, and the common people were the ones that bled for it. We don't have "free enterprise" here in the US though, and I pray we never do.

I always enjoy how optimistic your videos are. I like things that present such a positive message, and I quite liked your acknowldgement that we can't just blame our problems on "big government". As you alluded to, that would be simply saying "if only we can rid the world of this evil, the good can prosper". As Solzhenitsyn famously wrote, the line of good and evil runs straight down the middle of every individual's heart. The world is not made up of the categorically "good" and "evil".

I think that the problem is not capitalism or evil ET's. The core of the social, economical and political problems, at least in my opinion is the central bank controlled money system. If we had a monetary system that would serve the people instead of the other way around, most of the problems in the afore mentioned fields would vanish.

On your commentary: "How things are portrayed on movies and TV Shows has really skewed people's understanding of reality". I can confirm on that. I grew up watching TV and movies. When confronting reality, I discovered how bad I was on understanding reality. I know its a bit out of FEE's usual purview, but I'd like to see a video analyzing the idea put out and shown by the recent indie videogame No Straight Roads, particularly regarding the stuff that happens in the final act. The story and writing at the end comes across as an interesting and well-communicated critique of central-planning, the problems of government oversight, the dangers of tribalism, and the importance of the freedom of expression and competition in not just markets and society as a whole.
This question has been asked and answered correctly for at least 250 years. To reduce corporatism, reduce the power government has over the economy. As long as the state controls what people are allowed to produce, sell, or buy, and as long as they have the power to regulate or subsidize companies at their discretion, there will always be corporatism. Take that power away and there is nothing to lobby for. No subsidies or regulations for big corporations to capture. No way to benefit at the expense of smaller competitors.
David Icke has talked about this movie. Everyone has banned him but there are still some interviews available and he has his own website. For the curious.
It really took off in the 60's. I mean, Jack Nicholson goes on a diatribe about communist aliens in Easy Rider. Dalton Trumbo actually blocked the novel Darkness at Noon from being adapted to film because it made communism look bad. I don't think you came to a clear enough conclusion in this video. You intrigued me with the 80s but didn't explain exactly what was happening back then.
Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher both moved their respective countries into a more "hands off" economic stance. They believed in capitalism and small government. While it meant good things for many, for some it was detrimental. The closing of factories in northern towns in England, less regulations for corporations in America, etc. It meant already big businesses were able to get even bigger, and to many it seemed as though the common man got left in the dust. That's what Nada embodies in They Live. He represents an itinerant worker who gets repeatedly kicked in the teeth by the system. That was the "Reaganism" that Carpenter was railing against.
@@blahblahblah4544 The director, John Carpenter, is definitely not a conservative, but modern day liberals would call him “problematic” or perhaps even “toxic.” The movie is most often viewed as a critique of the Reagan era, but that hasn’t held up in retrospect.
Yeah, I noticed the anti-capitalist bias from They Live as well. It was still an enjoyable movie, but their take on economics was AWFUL.

"How are the rich making all that money if almost everyone is so poor they can't even afford to bathe?"
Taxation of course!
@@JMObyx Taxes go to the government, most of it FROM rich people.

In Serbian and probably some other slavic languages, "nada" means "hope"
Reminds me of something that is highly political now in schools is competitions and trophies.
The idea of competitions is to encourage everyone to do their best, and whoever does the best gets rewarded (handsomely, per se). You managed to get children to work harder than they've ever worked before.
However, the downside is that some kids (if not all) are going to be losers who didn't get to win. So to protect their feelings there should never be competitions, or everyone gets a trophy. 0
If you look at it from that sense you can see where capitalism is being questioned.

Is it necessary to have a wardrobe filled with clothes? The newest apple products? how about going out and buy your stuff instead of ordering it through amazon?
The only thing that is driving this kind of sentiment is envy. You don't look at how good your society is, rather, you only look at how good the richest people in your society are compared to you.

John Carpenter has always struck me as somewhat confused.

We keep talking about how bad corporatism is, when we should be talking about how to stop it.

@@christophermoonlightproduction their manifostoes rarely even mention capitalism at all. Its mostly much more personal and your Idea that this movie is somehow responsible for mass shootings is absurd.
@@marekvincibr5884 No, the mass shooters are responsible for mass shootings. However, do not underestimate the power of ideas. They are the birthplace of all things manifest in the human race from coffee tables to trips to the moon. To believe that does not hold true for acts of violence is what's really absurd.
@@christophermoonlightproduction wtf you trying to prove. You Are now talking about irrelant truism about ideas. While I was pointing out absurdity of your original comment that this relatively niche movie led in any degree to mass shootings which btw existed before this movie even came out.
I listen to Austin Wintory on Alanah Pearce’s podcast!!! Super cool dude!
Here's hoping you analyse more of Carpenter's astounding filmography with reference to how he had to face studio interference and worked on very little budgets.
We, the viewers want a video on Aquaman, the Atlantic on real life and so much
It is better to correct a flaw within yourself than to find a thousand in another.
Dang , I just remembered i watched this movie in VHS when that still was a thing .
It's still one of my favourite movies 😁
"... replace the bad thing with the good thing..." while showing Trump and Biden. That takes some serious disconnect with reality.
Jordan Peterson lives in your message.
It’s a good thing I didn’t realize that about 80s horror. I loved them all. The message didn’t penetrate my brain. You know why? Because they were movies. I lived through the 80s and it wasn’t bad.
I was watching the Movie called Hotel Artemis which is pretty good but I flipped out when they were saying the people were rioting because water became privatized and expensive. I'm like that is ass backwards
Personal responsibility as a solution!?!? How dare you!!!!
Amazing video!
It's interesting that the main character is named Nada, Nada in spanish means "nothing".
I personally prefer to point out that the story requires the characters to put on glasses that will "reveal the truth of the world to you" but instead of revealing anything they may be masking everything but lies from you.
Personally, I've always found Hollywood's social messages to be overly preachy, and brainlessly idiotic. A simple google search would be more informative than the average flick. Don't try to _teach_ us anything. You're not smart enough.
Capitalism is evil
Now give us money
Hollywood in a nutshell
I don't think you came to a clear enough conclusion in this video. You intrigued me with the 80s but didn't explain exactly what was happening back then.
Reagan was fucking economy of USA with his idea of trickle down economics.
Obviously there's a lot more to it, but I hope this kinda elucidated on the basis of it.
@@TH3F4LC0Nx by the way the trickle down economics never worked if you aren´t already rich. Its the kind of socialism the rich man would want. The one where he gats the goverments money. And all the antisocialist comments (such as inflation is forgotten) are forgotten. Is much worse because money doesn´t trickle down as Will rogers said in 1932
This election was lost four and six years ago, not this year. They [Republicans] didn’t start thinking of the old common fellow till just as they started out on the election tour. The money was all appropriated for the top in the hopes that it would trickle down to the needy. Mr. Hoover was an engineer. He knew that water trickles down. Put it uphill and let it go and it will reach the driest little spot. But he didn’t know that money trickled up. Give it to the people at the bottom and the people at the top will have it before night, anyhow. But it will at least have passed through the poor fellow's hands. They saved the big banks, but the little ones went up the flue.
@@marekvincibr5884 "trickle down" was always just a name critics used for their caricature of supply side theory. It doesn't actually exist.
fee.org/articles/there-is-no-such-thing-as-trickle-down-economics/
And Reagan certainly wasn't nearly as much of a free market guy as advertised.
mises.org/library/myths-reaganomics
That said, the economy of the early 80s was largely a product of policies from the 70s, and not anything to do with Reagan anyway.
But yes, some people have always been mad about "Reaganomics". Unfortunately, most could neither define nor explain what that actually meant.
You need to make a video on John Carpenter's The Thing, it would be perfect for the times of pandemic
The statute of limitation may have expired.. nice quote
