The shots in the empty auditorium were filmed at the 17000 seat Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam at the beginning of 2023. Exactly one year later Emma was interviewed by ‘De Telegraaf’ at the same venue in her dressing room before going out to sing to a now packed arena. She said it felt bizarre she was allowed to do that - is she kidding 😂😂
This is an indescribably beautiful video and song in which Emma expresses her deepest longing to be free of the restraints imposed upon her by an unfortunate fate.
Using the metaphor of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon to soar above the everyday difficulties of her life and toward the realization of her dreams, she paints an image of sadness and despair that ultimately transforms into hope and triumph over severe adversity. It is a timeless story, but it bears Emma's very unique and personal stamp.
This is the creation of a born artist of extraordinary talent and ability. I shed a tear every time I hear this song.

There was a subtitled version of this video on RUclips for quite a while, but for some reason, the uploader deleted it, along with several others, and I don't think it was a copyright issue, and it's a huge shame, as the deep emotion in one section is lost a little without the translation, the section between 2:02 and 2:40 is a deeply emotional section, Emma sings, 'If only for a day, or even for a count of 10, I'd just like to live as another', the expression of her desperate longing to be free of the ties and restrictions of gastroparesis, to be able to soar like that butterfly, and as she sings it, her eyes close, she gently shakes her head, and then her head goes down, and she becomes silent as she contemplates her situation, and then has to face the numbing reality of her illness, for which there is at present no cure, but then, she decides that she cannot and will not let her illness define her, she is going to rise above it, to live her life to the full, and become the singer she so desperately wants to be, and her voice soars to a new high note, and she rises and makes it clear that she is going to fight this disease.
Without the translation, this sort of slips by for anyone who doesn't know Dutch, but given the awful circumstances of Emma's illness, which we're becoming more aware of with time, it's clear that she has been deeply troubled by the effects of her illness, and by the bullying and other problems caused by her small stature, and being different, having to use the trolley to move her feeding pumps, and by the implications of her illness for her life, I desperately hope that the present treatment she is on is stable, and that her illness won't change, or cause her problems in the future, but we are aware of a close friend, Angela, who died, last year, not long before she appeared in Maastricht, and the song she recorded at the time, a capella, no music, it's incredible, the depth, the emotion, and she finishes with a line that's devastating, she's having an imaginary conversation with Angela, and she asks a question, 'Is there a place where we can sit and watch the sunset', and then she answers her own question, 'Yeah, I know, you'll tell me when I get there'.

I can't begin to imagine the mental strength she found to sing that line, given her awareness of just how devastating gastroparesis can be, I've seen several reports of teenagers killing themselves because they could no longer cope with the pressures and problems of every day living, for now, fortunately, Emma's disease seems to be well under control, and being well managed, which is a huge relief, and it's very clear that Andre Rieu is being very careful to not over tax Emma during the world tour, we know that some days, more than 2 flights of stairs while carrying the equivalent of a boat anchor, even walking long distances such as through a large airport, they are a challenge, and Emma has on occasions used a wheelchair to reduce the pressures on her, the effects of gastroparesis have left her with reduced stamina, but as I said earlier, she's decided to fight every inch of the way, and not let this awful disease define her.
This first single, released 12 months before Voila, it's is expressing a deep and desperate desire and longing to be be able to soar like the butterfly emerging from the chrysalis of the cocoon, and to be free, and when she performed Voila the first time in Maastrict, the video that's been viral for months, and now has almost 50 Million views on RUclips alone, that first night, it was the start of the fulfillment of her dream, becoming a super star singer, and it was even more mind numbing for her, after that first night, the very next day, Andre invited her to join him for the concerts in Malta, and to then perform as a guest in the Christmas concerts in Maastricht, and then even more unexpected, to become a part of the world tour of 75 concerts during 2024, and I would like to hope that Andre will be happy to keep her involved in his organisation beyond the end of 2024, it's clear that they have a close relationship, he's said that he feels almost like a second father to her, and it's also clear that Emma has a very close and comfortable relationship with many members of the orchestra, as well as others in the immediate family, Pierre Rieu has also said that she feels like a sister to him, and there are regular posts on social media that are very complimentary to Emma a recent post said that she has been a helpful influence in Andre's recovery from the recent severe flu attack that caused the cancellation of a number of concerts in Mexico City.
Emma has very much got to you, along with a very large number of other people, me included, there's a group of us that all watch for videos relating to Emma, and the same names regularly are visible in the comments, and we all seem to have similar feelings about the incredible performer that she is, and the wonderful way that she lives, even becoming a mega star, and rightly so, her personality is still so open, so powerfully vulnerable, she is so far above seeking sympathy, and she's taken her experiences, good, bad and (her words) just weird, and built them in a positive way into her personality, and she uses that vulnerability to give her performing ability a stronger and deeper edge, which allows her to get into the hearts and minds of the audience that hear her songs, it's a power and ability that's way above and beyond most singers, and one of the factors that allows her to stand out so wonderfully.
The comments by Exeter1588 are so relevant, and appropriate, I don't need to repeat them, in the last 7 months, I freely admit, Emma has well and truly got to me, in ways I never expected, and at 73, it's surprised me that she's had such a deep effect, but I think that's down to the incredible determination she is showing to achieve her goals, and there is no doubt, she is also incredibly talented and gifted, and has also worked very hard at improving herself, and that's something that's so rare in young teens these days, and I guess that's what's touched me, and why I'm doing whatever I can to promote her, and to promote her foundation, in the hope that they will be able to improve the treatments available to people like Emma, or even better, find a cure that will liberate her from the limitations of being on the feed pumps that she is dependent on to live.

'Ein Bisschen Frieden' a song in German, in which she's fluent, she starts it with a cheeky smile and a raised finger for quiet, and then a capella for the first verse.

Another recent song, made even better because it was her 16th Birthday, and Andre got the entire audience to sing Happy Birthday for her, and then impromptu, the audience then sang a Greek version for her, before she then sang a Michael Jackson song, 'Heal the world', a song with deep meaning given the world situation at the moment.

I close with what's becoming my signature when talking about Emma, she deserves as much support as it is possible to give her.

Please, if at all possible, join me in making a (regular) contribution to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease that has affected her from birth, and requires her to be tied to the pumps and feeding tubes since she was 9 MONTHS old, for 22 hours a day, hopefully, the work of her foundation will find a cure.
One of their main people is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in dealing with gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day.
It will be so good if the work of Emma's foundation can lead to a better treatment, or even a cure, which will free her to do more singing, and it may be people here who make that possible.
