I love the big grin at the end of each song she sings when she knows she has 'nailed' it!

The meaning of this song is the wish to be free as a butterfly without any restrictions which suits so well to Emma’s health condition

Another very nice reaction to Emma, thank you.
The arena shots in Emma’s video here were filmed in an empty Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam in early January 2023. Exactly one year later Emma was on the same stage singing to a 15000 audience.
The butterfly metaphor is important to Emma, the ability to escape the cocoon (or the constraints of her pumps) is something she leans on. You may notice in some of her performances where you catch sight of her custom made In Ear Monitors they have a butterfly logo on them.
There is a live version of this in the town square in Houten. Her interaction with the crowd is beautiful to see.

Hi Chris,I tried to find an english translation on the internet, but did not find it, so I gave it aa try myself. Not perfect, I think, but the song is worth it. Here it is,
    Greetz Jacques
Lyrics “Laat mij een vlinder zijn”
English “Let me be a buttyerfly””
Written specially for Emma by Tjeerd Oosterhuis
    Dutch singer/songwriter/producer
If I could change for a day
Than it seems very nice to me
To be just as so many others
For once not to be afraid, but be free
If I for a moment able was to do everything
I would get quickly out of my cocoon
Fly through the clouds towards the sun
For a moment be able to move freely
    Live without fear and worries
    Let me be a butterfly
    Let me be a butterfly
Never have to wear a mask
    With my wings spread wide
    Let me be a butterfly
    Let me be a butterfly
    I thought I was loosing
But I stood up and conquered
And only by the fighting I found out
How much I still was able to do
    But sometimes there are moments
That I badly want more than I can
    And always dream of
For a moment be able to move freely
    Live without fear and worries
    Let me be a butterfly
    Let me be a butterfly
Never have to wear a mask
    With my wings spread wide
    Let me be a butterfly
    Let me be a butterfly
    Na na nananana …….
If it was only for today
    Or even for 10 seconds
    I would really like to
see the world as somebody else
    music
    Let me be a butterfly
    Lety me be a butterfly-y-y-y-y + chorus
    Let me be a butterfly
    Let me be a butterfly
Never have to wear a mask
    With my wings spread wide
    Let me be a butterfly
    Let me be a butterfly
O, o, ohohoho yeah (chorus na na nananana…)
    Let me be a butterfly

    Hello,
Thanks for your reaction on one of Emma's own songs.
The lyrics have a much deeper mention for her due to her circumstances.
    Hereby the Lyrics in English:
Laat Mij Een Vlinder Zijn (Let Me Be a Butterfly) is a heartfelt song by Emma Kok. Here are the English lyrics for this uplifting track:
[Verse 1] If I could change a day Then it seems very nice Just like as many others Once not afraid, but to be free
[Pre-Chorus] If I could do everything for equally Then I quickly crawled out of my cocoon Flew through the clouds toward the sun
[Chorus] To move freely for a moment Living without fear and worries Let me be a butterfly Let me be a butterfly Never having to wear a mask With my wings spread wide Let me be a butterfly Let me be a butterfly
[Verse 2] I thought I was losing But I stood up and conquered And through the fight, I discovered How much I could still do
[Pre-Chorus] Yet there are moments When I wish for more than I can And I always dream of
[Chorus] Being able to move freely Living without fear and worries Let me be a butterfly Let me be a butterfly Never having to wear a mask With my wings spread wide Let me be a butterfly Let me be a butterfly
[Bridge] Na-na, na-na-na-na-na Na-na, na-na-na-na-na Na-na, na-na-na-na-na-na Even if it’s just for today Or even for a mere moment I’d love to see the world From a different perspective
[Chorus] Being able to move freely Living without fear and worries Let me be a butterfly Let me be a butterfly Never having to wear a mask With my wings spread wide Let me be a butterfly Let me be a butterfly
    [Outro] Na-na, na-na-na-na-na (Oh) Na-na, na-na-na-na-na (Oeh, yeah) Na-na, na-na-na-na-na-na

Of course without the lyrics the song can be interpreted in any number of ways, all of which are perfectly valid. For Emma, I think it is simply about being free to soar above the terrible impositions forced upon her by her condition. When the butterfly emerges from its cocoon and flys away, it is released from the constraints of its earthly bounds (think feeding tubes and pumps), and is now free to soar above and towards the realization its dreams.
Emma has the talent and the range to sing any genre of music, but in her heart, I believe, she is a pop singer. All of her musical idols are female pop singers like Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Loren Allred, Sophia Carson, etc. She loves to perform live shows and engage with her audience, often inviting them to clap and sing along with her. Her confidence and performance skills are far beyond her years. When she performs she is, like the butterfly, free.
Thank you so much for reacting to Laat Mijn Een Vlinder Zijn. I'm very happy that you enjoyed it, and am looking forward to your reaction to 'Hallelujah'.
Be careful my friend. You're coming very close to going down the Emma rabbit hole like so many of us. I can tell you however, it is not a bad place to be. This young girl is an emerging megastar. The world's reaction to her on her world tour with Maestro Rieu makes that very clear.
    All the best.

I always try to be as accurate as I can, but I may have overreached here. Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word 'idol'. The artists that I mentioned are just a few of the artists that Emma has covered. While she clearly likes their music, I really have no idea how she feels about them personally, so perhaps 'idol' was the wrong word to use.
Also, I really don't watch reaction videos except for Emma. Not that I don't like other artists, but I have little interest in what other people think about them. Emma is different and I don't even know if I can explain why, except that, like yourself, I am a veteran and have a predisposition to people of courage. Emma fits that bill in spades. She has adopted the warrior ethos in her battle for survival and talks about it quite openly. She knows her life is tenuous. People with her condition do not tend to live normal life spans. Her grit and determination is worthy of being honored and admired. That is why I speak of her as I do, and have taken an interest in her life and career. All the best to you. @@courageousMedia

I have to tell you that something seems strange with RUclips and your channel. There is a legion of Emma fans and supporters out there that can normally be counted on to comment on any Emma reaction, so only two comments at this point appears unusual. Since the 'Voila' official video was released back in Aug. 2023 it has over 40 million views and Emma has become one of the most searched for artists on RUclips. I have seen hundreds of Emma reactions over the last 7 months, and commented on many of them. I know the people who regularly comment on Emma from this personal experience. Many of them are European.
In my own case, I have my search filters set to bring up any new Emma reaction video, but that is not how I found your channel. I was doing a general unfiltered search with her name and happened upon your channel after scrolling down quite a ways. I don't know what to make of this. Perhaps there is nothing to it at all. I just don't know.
Anyway, I hope you are able to grow your channel. Hopefully the word will get out as you react to other artists in addition to Emma. I'm looking forward to your reaction to Hallelujah.
    All the best.

Chris, this song specially written for Emma is so deep, in that her illness, which you are aware of, imposes so many restrictions on her life, she was put on tube feeding at 9 Months, but the medical profession didn't properly diagnose her until she was 10 Years old, and in the interim period she suffered from wrong diagnosis, and procedures that didn't help her, one of which damaged her gag reflex. she can no longer vomit, which is a big deal with a paralysed stomach, and then if that wasn't bad enough, she has suffered delayed growth, which has been an issue, when she was still tiny, she didn't have the strength or the stamina to carry the pumps, so had to use a trolley to move them around, and was badly abused by her peers, and they also taunted her for her size, calling her gnome, and grandma, she ended up needing professional help to get through the trauma, and cope with her own feelings about her illness, the pumps are a bit like a boat anchor, so the 2 hours a day where she can be free of them are more than precious, and singing is her therapy, she pours all her feelings, good bad and (her word) just weird into her singing, and that emotion and intensity gives her an extra depth to the ability she has to get deep into the heart and soul of people listening. I have described her singing as powerfully vulnerable, she exposes her weaknesses, not for sympathy, but to make it clear that she recognises them, and is rising above them.
There's deep emotion in the song, from 2:02 to 2:40. she sings 'If only for a day, or even for a count of 10, I'd just like to live as another', and the other she's referring to there is someone free of the constraints, limitations and pain of gastroparesis, we know a bit about what she endures, but there are times when her stamina fails her, and she has to have help, more than 2 flights of stairs when carrying the pumps, or even long walking distances are an issue, she will occasionally use a wheelchair for that reason, and there are regular procedures to replace the 'Mickey button', the interface through her abdomen wall that gets the tubes into her stomach and intestine, and she refuses anaesthetic, as it affects her voice, so has to endure at least 30 minutes of intense pain, longer if there are problems, every time they perform the replacement, for a long time, she wasn't able to talk openly about these procedures, but in recent times, she's been more able to let them be seen on social media.
In the song, during that point where she's desperately and deeply searching for and wanting a change, you see her eyes close, then a gentle shake of her head, and then her head goes down, and in that moment, she's facing the reality that for now, and for the forseeable future, there can be no change, there is no new treatment, or a cure that can free her of the daily regime with the pumps, if she wants to live, then she has to live with the situation that she knows only too well.
Then, her head comes up, she's made the decision that she will NOT let this illness define her, she will NOT let it defeat her or hold her down, she WILL rise above it, and she is going to live life on her terms, and fight every step of the way, and in the song, she rises to a new high note, and makes it very clear, she is going to soar like the butterfly of her dream, soar to new heights, and become what she knows she can be.
The dream became a reality for Emma when she was invited to sing with Andre Rieu in Maastricht in July 2023, Andre became aware of her winning Ministars singing Barbara Pravi's song, Voila, and after meeting Emma, they decided that it was the right song for her to sing on his Vrijthof stage. Andre, his team and Emma significantly changed the song, they slowed it down, changed the tempo, added the key change and repeat of the third verse, and all of those changes gave Emma the time and space she needed to not just perform the song, because of how deeply the words fit her life experience, she LIVED the song on the stage of the Vrijthof, and it's hard to recognise that this was Emma's first appearance with Andre, and it was the first ever live performance of this version of Voila.
As well as changing the song, Andre also worked with Emma, he had 4 dresses made for her, and they both chose the stunning black dress when they saw them, Emma's reaction was that when wearing it, she felt 'strong and powerful', and that was very much the case. In every previous video before Maastrichts, Emma is very much the strong, capable and poweful girl singer, but at the end of Andre's touching introduction, Emma physically walked out onto the stage, but mentally, she was soaring like the butterfly of her dream, emerging from the cocoon of the chrysalis, the New Emma, the Emma that Andre recognised was ready to emerge, didn't just walk out, she soared to a new height, the New Emma, wearing the black dress they both chose, she put 5" heels under the dress, the result was that she was no longer the still tiny young girl as she walked out, she was transformed, she walked out on to that stage visibly and emotionally a beautiful, strong, powerful, serene, composed, competent, driven and dedicated young woman, and that mental change meant that with the new version of the song, she gave what may become defined as the performance of her life, and at the end, as she threw her arm up and punched the air in triumph, the cheeky smile on her face said it all, she knew she'd nailed it, and then a few moments later, the 15 year old girl emerged for just a moment, she turned to her mentor Andre, threw her arms wide, and the look on her face said it all, 'How was that?'.
Andre's eyes, his smile, the embrace and kiss, the one word from the maestro, 'Fantastic', they all said it so clearly, as did a minute of standing ovation from 12,500 people, the call back to acknowledge the audience, it was clear that this was something special.
To crown that, after only the first of 12 appearances, Andre was confident enough in Emma to invite her to join him in Malta for two concerts, to guest star in the Christmas concerts in Maastricht, and then to become a key performer in the world tour of 75 concerts in 2024.
She is very close to Andre, he has very much taken her under his wings, and he is looking after her very well, he arranged a surprise for her recently in Athens, he flew the rest of the family and some of her close friends in for a party with her, and then surprised her during the concert, by announcing her birthday, the orchestra played 'Happy Birthday', which the 13,500 people there joined in with very enthusiastically, with more applause, and then impropmtu the audience sang a Greek song for her, before she then sang her other piece, Michalel Jackson's 'Heal the world', it made her 16th birthday very special, and Emma won't forget it for a very long time to come,
Two other songs that have deep meaning for Emma are a cover of a Miley Cyrus song, 'The Climb', recorded for Tube feeding week, which is a subject close to her heart, and it also expresses the problems of having to constantly rise to meet new challenges, new issues,
    ruclips.net/video/dOhzlDEuCBg/видео.html
Another deep meaning song for her was a Disney film song, from 'The Little Mermaid', and the song by Halle Bailey, 'Part of your world',
    ruclips.net/video/itxs-aNyRJY/видео.html
Ariel is expressing a deep desire to move from her life in the water to living on land, walking on feet, and streets, a desire to completely change her life, and that of course resonated with Emma because of the restrictions she lives with.
in September 2023, Emma was 'honoured' to be asked to participate in an annual commemoration concert to remember the 8000 Americans who gave their lives to liberate Holland in WW2.
There are 4 videos, the first is an introduction, and then 3 songs, the most poweful is Father, and even the sound engineer was caught off guard by the incredible power that Emma puts into the song, a deeply emotional song where Emma holds nothing back.

People who know me will know what's coming, and I make no apologies for repeating it on a regular basis,
A closing heartfelt plea to everyone reading these comments.
Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl
If at all possible, please join me in making a (regular) donation to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease, and hopefully find a cure.
At the moment, they are a small group, and one of their main people is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in dealing with gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day.
It would be wonderful news to hear that they have been able to change the outlook for Emma and others, it would be tragic if Emma were unable to continue to sing like she does, while she looks stunning on stage, her stamina is not good, so it is a very delicate balance to maintain her health, it would be so good to hear that the situation has been changed by the work the foundation are doing, Emma would then be free to spend more time doing what she loves so dearly.
