New Emma video! ruclips.net/video/Wq9R2W3Kqtw/видео.htmlsi=KOrxZaV08vR8DJCw - It's an informal "interview" where she talks about Gastroparesis and bullying... and even does some singing in the car! Plus the captions are in English (and precise)... which is nice. 😉

      Hi @nickhiggsthesinger,
If singing techniques are your thing and telling a story in a song, then you should do an reaction by Floor Jansen, either solo or in the band in which she sings Nightwish.
I'm very curious what you think about that.

This young person is art in perfection!
Starting several times one bar before the orchestra alone proves a somnambulistic security in what they do.
She demonstrates incredible hearing and incredible tone stability. Her sensational holding of the notes, ending every word - not a wrong beat. Not a wrong note.
Her incredible swinging between her belly and head voice, her completely natural vibrato, her oscillation between delicate breath and powerful vocal volume.
"Ne partez pas, j'vous en supplie restez longtemps" - this heavenly and angelic fragility.
Her beat and tempo, her unearthly jump a semitone higher without orchestral help.
Her completely natural singing of Chancon's typical chant, only to unpack an unearthly vocal volume moments later.
And above all - her absolutely professional interaction with the audience and the orchestra, her phenomenal stage presence. the whole time she is talking to the audience - at 15 years old!!!! Many 50-year-olds can't do that.
This girl is a new Edith Piaf. But not the dark, black, hopeless and pain-tormented Piaf - but a fun-loving, thirsty and incredibly strong young artist.
In my opinion, Emma has lifted the French chancon into a new sphere. This girl doesn't sing music - she IS music.
And if there is a god - with Emma he has created a work of perfection! From the first note it leads the master, the orchestra and the audience. I've never experienced
anything like that. And especially not from someone so young.
That brief smile from the blond short-haired female violinist behind her sums it all up in a heartbeat.

It's no wonder that this video went through the roof in such a short time, because it's just so touching. The audience says it all.
To be honest, you couldn't wish for a better education with such a world-famous orchestra with Andre Rieu. Here she gets everything she needs for her future, for her future career, and she rightly deserves it.

I first saw this video very shortly after the performance which took place in Maastricht, July 2023. I have been following Emma's career ever since on RUclips and her social media. She is well worth looking into further. Her development as a vocal artist and performer is an extraordinary and compelling story. I could go on for paragraph after paragraph giving you information and my personal impressions of her, but I will resist that temptation and just relate some pertinent facts.
She is a musical prodigy who, in addition to her top-tier vocal artistry, plays violin and piano. She speaks 3 languages fluently, including English. She does not speak French ironically, though she performed 'Voila' in French as you are aware. She came into prominence in her native country, the Netherlands, in 2021 after winning the Voice Kids Netherlands at the age of 12. This performance of 'Voila' with Maestro Andre Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra has catapulted her to worldwide fame. She is currently in the midst of a world tour with Maestro Rieu and the orchestra as a featured vocalist. The response to her from audiences across Europe and the Middle East has been phenomenal. She is a rising Megastar.
I have seen well over a hundred reactions to this performance over the last 7 months. Most are good, but only a few are from professionals who actually have the expertise to breakdown a performance like this and relate its intricacies in a manner that the common person can understand and appreciate. Your's is one of those. So, thank you very much for that.
Here are a few of Emma's performances and covers you may wish to react to in the future. They are all exceptional and point to the fact that we are dealing with a truly exceptional and extraordinary talent in Emma: Laat Mijn Een Vlinder Zijn (an original release from 2022), Father (a cover of Demi Lovato from Sept. 2023), Voila (a cover of Barbara Pravi performed as a duet with Helene Fischer on the Helene Fischer Show from Dec. 2023) and Hallelujah (a cover of the Leonard Cohen song performed with the European Pop Orchestra, Dec. 2023). Emma's performance of Hallelujah is, in my opinion, an artistic masterpiece. All of the aforementioned videos are available on RUclips.
    Thanks again. All the best.

Skip the Helene Fischer performance - Helene is a popular performer and her voice is excellent, but in this case it was 100% technical perfection and 0% passion... and her hooha hugger outfit was embarrassing (or should have been) on stage next to the sheer grace and elegance Emma exhibits with her modest beauty.

    • @exeter1588
      @exeter1588 8 месяцев назад +1

I'll give you that. Helene's outfit was inappropriate at best. What was she thinking? Still, it was a magnificent performance by the two of them.@@Only1Shadow

    • @Only1Shadow
      @Only1Shadow 8 месяцев назад +2

@exeter1588 honestly I wasn't impressed with either of their performances in that video. Personal opinion of course.
Helene has a more mature voice and she was spot on from the sheet music, but that's what it was - from the sheet music, she didn't impart any feeling into it.
Emma just seemed distracted. She's supposedly a huge fan of Helene, and so may have been a bit star struck? Maybe felt a bit intimidated? I'd like to think she was disappointed in that dress as well - even when you see Emma performing at informal venues she's dressed respectfully. She seems to know she doesn't need skimpy outfits or crazy antics to gain attention.
Again, just personal opinion and a couple unanswerable questions. Lol

Yes, Emma is not just a 15- or now 16-year-old girl who sings something cute. She is a finished artist, without question. With her small height of 1.50 m, she is nevertheless quite a big one. She doesn't get special support because she has gastroparesis, but because she still gives great performances that need a lot of work and practice. The cover song is not by her, but it is as if it was written exactly and only for her. Please read the lyrics.

Emma chooses songs that she has a connection with. Her condition requires her to be connected to two small pumps 22 hours a day, one tube goes to her stomach and the other to her intestine. Her condition also affects her growth rate, she is much more petite than other 15 year-olds. When she was younger she could not carry the pumps around in school so she used a child-sized walker to hold them. Other children teased her, calling her "gnome" and "grandma". She still gets teased, I believe she stopped going to public school.
VOILA, by Barbara Pravi from France, was written for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 (it placed second). The song is about vulnerability, strength, and self-acceptance, saying "This is me. Here I am. Accept me for what I am, voilà. Emma does not speak French, she had someone teach her the song phonetically.

    Lyrics in English
Listen to me, me, the singer-to-be
Tell your lovers, your friends about me
Tell them about this girl with the black eyes and the crazy dream.
What I want is to write stories that will reach you.
    That's all
Voilà, voilà, voilà, that's who I am.
This is me, even when I lie open I'm afraid, yes
This is me in the noise and in the silence
Look at me, or at least what's left of me
Look at me before I hate myself
What shall I tell you that another's lips will not tell you?
It's little, but it's all I have; I put it there.
    That's it
Voilà, voilà, voilà, this is who I am
This is me me, even if I lie open, it is finished
This is my face, this is my scream, this is who I am
Voilà, voilà, voilà, it's right here
Me, my dream, my desire, how I go to ruin, how I laugh at it
That's me in the noise and in the silence.
Don't go, I beg you, stay for a long time.
It may not save me, no
But to live without you, I don't know how to do it.
Love me like you love a friend who's going away forever
I want people to love me because I can't like my outline
Voilà, voilà, voilà, this is who I am
This is me, even when I lie open, it's over
This is me in the noise and also in the rage
Look at me, and in the end also my eyes and my hands
All I have is here, it's my face, it's my screaming
This is me me, this is me me
    Voilà
    Voilà
    Voilà, voilà
    Voilà

André has said that they had to go through the song over and over in rehearsals even after Emma nailed it, because the orchestra kept tearing up^^
André also claimed in an interview that he has "secondary father feelings" for her, and that his whole 150-head crew/orchestra became "extended family" for Emma.
Also, Emma doesn't speak French. She learned the song phonetically and a family friend (who speaks french) helped her fine-tune the pronunciation. She performed it closer to the "poppy" original at first, before André suggested slowing it down to a Walz.

France has been submitting these modern chansons recently and I’m here for it. I would be elated if you listened to more virtuosic ESC songs in this season: “Tout l’univers”, “Mon amour”…

I have watched this performance more times than I care to admit and the live audience reaction shots perfectly capture this amazing moment in time. Look at the girls face at 13:29 ... She's asking herself what the hell is happening? and the lady at 10:09 looking up at her partner thinking the same thing...
I managed to get tickets for Andr Rieu's show this season purely on the back of this video and can attest to the remarkable effect this section had on the audience, particularly those who didn't know it was coming and thought they were just in for a night of waltzes and arias
It is beyond comprehension how such a small and delicate being is able to conjur up such power and emotion
    She is an absolute treasure
Great reaction my friend and excellent explanatory insight

I think what amazes me more than how great she is, and a sure in as a super star. However getting 12500 people to come to this concert is increadable of course she deserves it all, but it is amazing that she brings such a n audience, and this is her first concert, the only thing she has done before is the Voice Kids in Holland and won 1St place, and this was in 2011 when she was 12 years old. She is what perfection sounds like, Yeah Emma

One of the things some may not know is that Emma has a fantastic vocal coach who is a very accomplished singer yet is a charismatic warm teacher..you can find Cheryl Porter who has a channel also go through vocal exercises with a younger Emma..Cheryl has also been coaching Loren Alred of the greatest showman & bgt & agt . You can see now two examples of what a vocal coach can do, Loren on RUclips & Emma. This is how good voices with good work comes into beautiful results.. Coaches help you pick after learning words & tune where to shorten, end a phrase, take a brearh, do vibrato, do pure tone. You start to get a sense of what sounds nice to itntensify resonance. Someone like Andrea is a master at classical folk orchestration arrangement..a beautiful result

Ive seen this dozens of times, just like most people who became infatuated with it. After all that time what truly gets me is her power. Such a tiny physical package of all the things we call human, but then look at that demeanor that bravado. During this song she rises up above herself and becomes a warrior, a force to be reckoned with. A freight train drumming through the night, stopping for absolutely no one. And when she's finished...that confident and demanding look on her face. She could bring a viking to his knees with that look. On top of the world. And then it happens... She hugs Andre and says "Dankjewel" in the most vulnerable voice possible... Her voice breaks and she's a kid again. Transforming back from a natural phenomenon, a hurricane, an earthquake, a roaring tsunami....back to a kid. Not completely phatoming what she just did.
Even if she never sang for an audience again. This performance will write her name in the annals of history. She did it. She made a difference.

Nick, that's a really good and nice reaction to Emma, and when you know a bit more about her, it becomes even more impressive, and yes, tears are in order.
This video was the first ever live performance of this version of Voila, Emma learnt it a year earlier because the words meant a lot to her, but as she doesn't speak French, she had to learn it phonetically.
Not only is it the first ever live performance, it is also the first time Emma was appearing on Andre's stage, they met at the beginning of 2023 after she won Ministars, singing Voila, there's a video of that version at
    ruclips.net/video/rOKVK4o-vf4/видео.html
and when they met, 'they clicked', and Andre invited her to join him in the summer concerts in Maastricht, scheduled for 12 concerts during July, and every one of them a sell out with 12,500 people at them, he's been doing them now for 17 years, only stopped during Covid lockdowns, and he also tours widely the rest of the year, 2024 is 75 concerts across the globe.
Andre, his team and Emma significantly changed the version as she'd learnt it, they slowed it down, changed the tempo, added the key change, and the repeat of the third verse, all of which gave Emma the time and space she needed to do more than just perform the song, she LIVED it on that stage, her life experience with gastroparesis means she has an extra dimension to her singing, I've described it as powerful vulnerability, she takes all the emotions that she feels, good, bad and (her words,) just weird, and builds them into the performance, with stunning results.
Her ability to perforrm live on stage is very limited, she can only be off the pumps that keep her alive for 2 hours a day, and her stamina is limited, some days, more than 2 flights of stairs carrying the equivalent of a boat anchor, or even walking long distances can't happen, so her times off the pumps are precious, and mean a lot to her.
As well as changing the song, Andre also worked his showmans 50 plus years of experience to help Emma make the difficult transition from being a good, powerful and strong girl singer into the beautiful and glamourous young woman that walked out onto his stage at the Vrijthof, he may not have known it at the time, but that first night singing Voila was the start of the fulfillment of one of Emma's dreams, she released her first single some 12 months earlier, LAAT MIJ EEN VLINDER ZIJN , let me be a butterfly, written for her, it expresses her deep and desperate desire to be free of the limitations and restrictions of her disease, she wants to be free, to be able to soar like the butterfly of her dreams, to be able to soar and rise above it.
It's in Dutch, and there is a translation to English in the notes that are with this,
    ruclips.net/video/Zcxan9R5s4E/видео.html
It's deeply emotional, especially in the section from 2:02 to 2:40, where she sings, 'If only for a day, or even for a count of 10, I'd just like to live as another', and when that happens, her eyes close, she shakes her head from side to side, and then her head goes down, and she goes quiet, as she has to think about her situation, and then face the grinding reality that for now, there is no way out, there can be no change, as there is no cure at present for her disease, and as she realises that, her mind is made up.
After a few second, her head comes up, and in the song, she soars to a new high note, and it's clear that she has made the decision that she is NOT going to let this disease define her, she is not going to let it beat her, she IS going to rise above it, to become the singer that she knows she can be, and not be a victim of her circumstances.
In July, she walked out on to Andre's stage, but mentally, she was in a different place, she was the butterfly of her dreams, and she mentally soared above the stage, above the orchestra, and the audience, and by sheer strength of her personality, she dominated them all, from the moment she launched into the song, before even the orchestra played a note, she was driving that whole time, Andre was guiding the orchestra based on getting his cues from Emma, as she put all of her being, all of her emotions and feelings, into that performance, and it's hard to realise that this was the first ever live performance of this version of Voila, and Emma's first appearance on a stage with Andre, there's no evidence of stage nervousness, or concern, far from it, at the end, as she hits that top note, and punches the air in triumph, that cheeky grin says it all, she knows that she has nailed what is for now the defining performance of her life, its had over 45 Million views on RUclips alone, and it's on other social media sites as well, it's still viral 9 months after it went up, along with other songs that are also in multiple millions of views.
Andre had also worked his magic as as the consummate showman that he is, he had 4 dresses made for Emma, and when they saw them, they both made the same choice, the stunning black dress, and Emma's comment was that when wearing it, she's 'Strong and powerful'. Andre helped Emma make that difficult transition from being a very capable and good girl singer into the young woman he knew was ready to emerge, as she walked out on to that stage, mentally, she was the butterfly emerging from the cocoon it spent so long in, and the New Emma that walked out onto Andre's stage emerged and soared, she was visibly and emotionally a beautiful, strong, powerful, serene, composed, competent, driven and dedicated young woman, but at the end, just for a moment, the 15 year old girl emerged again, and she turned to Andre, threw her arms wide, and her look said it all, 'How was that?'
Andre's eyes, his smile, the hug, the kiss, one word, 'Fantastic' and the call back to acknowledge the ongoing standing ovation from the audience, they said it all, Emma had massively achieved a new high, she truly had arrived, and despite this being the first of 12 appearances, Andre had the confidence the following day to invite Emma to join him in Malta for 2 concerts, to be a guest artiste in the Christmas show series in Maastricht, and to then become a guest star for the 75 concerts of the 2024 world tour, and we're already seeing how much trust he has in her, she's performing songs that are very different, and in ways that in 15 years of watching Andre, I've not seen happen in the way they are with Emma, and we know from other videos on RUclips, Emma has a place in Andre's heart, he is being very protective of her, to avoid causing any health problems, and I won't be surprised if she is still working with Andre beyond 2024, she certainly is very much loved by the extended family that is the orchestra, and seems to have slotted in very well with them.
Two recent songs from the world tour, the first is in German, another Eurovision song from 1982, Ein Bisschen Frieden, she starts it with a finger for quiet, and then a capella for the first verse.
    ruclips.net/user/shortsi-eX4AGKbIM
    ruclips.net/video/aC-QtYbGRoE/видео.html
The first video is a short, so repeats, the second is the rest of the song, they're both audience captures so not the quality we expect from Andre, but they're OK, and give a clear indication of Emma's performance ability, between A capella starts, and then a verse of counter harmony, they are both special.
Another big ticket song in recent weeks has been a Michael Jackson song, 'Heal the world', and Emma gives a very good performance of this song, alongside the rest of the chorus and singers, it's a very powerful number.
There's a reasonable audience capture video from the Abu Dhabi concert at ruclips.net/video/bhRz0HMu-yY/видео.html
Another special event in which Emma's strength is so clear was a concert in September 2023, a special commemoration of the 8000 American lives lost liberating Holland in WW2, there are 4 videos, an introduction, and 3 songs, the first, Father, a Demi Levato cover is so powerful, and emotional, Emma destroys the sound engineer behind her, he clearly wasn't ready for what was coming.

There is so much more, a search of Emma Kok finds a lot, and I am sure you will be as impressed as I have been with her laser like focus on being the best she can be.
I close with what's becoming my signature when talking about Emma, and yes, it means a lot to me to be able to do this, she is a very special individual, and she deserves as much support as it is possible to give her.
Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl
Please, if at all possible, join me in making a (regular) contribution to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease that has affected her from birth, and requires her to be tied to the pumps and feeding tubes since she was 9 MONTHS old, for 22 hours a day, hopefully, the work of her foundation will find a cure.
One of their main people is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in dealing with gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day.
It will be so good if the work of Emma's foundation can lead to a better treatment, or even a cure, which will free her to do more singing, and it may be people here who make that possible.

Mr Kleenex should probably be sponsoring her concerts! And, of course no artist, particularly no teenager, wants to get 'pity points' about their medical condition or disability, whatever it may be, but to be judged simply on their performance - just like anyone else!
Yet; when you think about her power and voice projection, and what kind of hard work and determination it has taken to build her diaphragmatic strength, her lung capacity, in spite of her paralysed gut... The whole gut... It's more than impressive. And that due to her nutritional deficits, her body is more that of a tiny 8-10 yer old, than 14... AND, we later learn that she has to remain hooked up to her feeding machine 22 hours a day, has only 2 hours of freedom... PLUS battles full time challenges with very careful waste management, and painful replacements / change overs of her feeding tube, which 24/7 poses a serious infection / sepsis risk... It's... Well, courage seems too small a word to describe our Emma.
    I say 'our' because I'm a Dutchie too, but, in fact, the whole world has now claimed her! Deservedly so! { And kudos to Andre too for sharing her and mentoring, helping her shine.}

Our dutch girl is going ways !!!
    English translation
    Listen to me
    Me, the wannabe singer
    Talk about me
To your loves, to your friends
Tell them about this girl with black eyes and her crazy dream
Me, what I want is to write stories that reach you
    That’s all
Here, here, here, here I am, Here I am
even if stripped naked I am afraid, yes
Here I am in the noise and in the silence
Look at me, or at least what’s left
Look at me, before I hate myself
What to tell you, that another’s lips won’t tell you
It’s not much but all that I have I drop it there, that’s it
Here, here, here, here is who I am, Here I am
even if stripped bare it’s over
It’s my mouth, it’s my cry, here I am too bad
    Here, here, here, here
I am my dream, my desire, like I’m dying, like I laugh at it
Here I am in the noise and in the silence
Don’t go, I’m begging you stay a long time It may not save me, no
But to do without you I don’t know how
Love me as we love a friend who goes away forever
I want us to love me because I don’t know how to like my outlines
Here, there, here, here I am, Here I am
even if exposed it is finished
Here I am in the noise and in the fury too
Look at me, finally, and my eyes and my hands
All that I have is here, it’s my mouth, it’s my cry
Here I am, here I am, here I am
Here we are, here we are, here we are
    Here

I am yet another Emma Kok - Voila fanatic, and have watched at least fifty reaction videos, all of which were very positive about her and the performance, as you were. But here, unless I am too late to comment under this video, I would like to offer a suggestion: a duet by Ekaterina Shelehova and Nathan Pacheco entitled "L'Assenza," on her channel, EkaterinaShelehova. If you're not familiar with her, I suggest listening to her studio version of "Beyond the Quiet River."

I listened it again and again. My reaction deserves more. WOW. WOW. WOW. This is WOW. Emotional and Mind blowing. I was really touched by your reaction too. so sweet. I am still emotional every time I listen to this song. It fits the situation of Emma. I am Dutch and no comments really tells. But the most heartbreaking thing is at the end. Andre saying "Fantastisch", and emma responding "Dank je wel". She there is so humble, vulnerable and delicate. You realise she is just a kid. She did her version of Hallelujah with orchestra in december still being 15. It is an amazing arrangement. She maid it her own and she really gets to you. Two weeks ago she had a new original song out “Dancing on the stars”. Her whole being was in to that. I broke.... again. love to hear your comment on the development of Emma. ruclips.net/video/Ll1uR_HUOP8/видео.htmlfeature=shared.

Emma owns this song. How often do you see a 15 year old young lady hold the audience in her hands.
