Alan was looking for a strange car to buy and found the perfect candidate - the Cadillac Allante. When he decided to feature it at his tongue-in-cheek concours, the owners' club didn't take it very well.
Ed recently tried the Armor Shield IX DIY Kit on his Porsche and was impressed.
He also very shrewdly negotiated $25 off. Enter code CANNONBALL for $25 off your complete Ceramic Coating Kit. Visit avl.kg/vinwiki-cannonball

Allante owner here...I laughed when the owner's club took such offense to the invitation. Wish I could have been there!
Kinda wish you two had ganged up on them and trolled them with pictures at the car show. I would have even had a trophy built titled "Best RUNNER-UP" to see how offended they really get. 😁😂
PS: My theory is these were the people who paid the full $55-60,000 for them when it was in production. As the British would say "Bloody fools..."
The Cadillac allante owners are coming! Not very fast but they are coming 😆
Dammit, Jim! They just won't die! Better take a few corners and hope we lose them.
Luckily the head bolts are backing out and popping head gaskets as quick as ever...
LMAOOOO 😂😂
@@SWOhioSirens yup, missed that.
@@SWOhioSirens I think we found one of the people he was talking about...
Allante Owners: You are trying to drive down Allante values!
Alan: Joke's on you, guess what I just paid for this thing!
Gus Kipper I saw an Allante when I was car shopping I was wondering why they’re so high my dad said they were rare I bought a convertible Mercedes and still spent less
I almost had a Cadillac Cimmaron as my first car. It was dead mint condition, 20k miles on the clock, from a car collector, and he was only selling it for $3,500. Fully documented paperwork, and he was the 2nd or 3rd owner.
@@MrWolfSnack That would have been awesome!
I think that featuring a car in media is most likely drive up Allante values.
@@RemygunzxxTV I saw one locally in mint condition for $2500. Looked like a nice car but I'd rather have a buick reatta over it.
The love of the Cadillac Allante is a unique passion. I have witnessed it firsthand and I can attest, it is fervent. Well done, as always, Alan.
Hello Ed, I hope you have a fantastic day, please check your vinwiki email account and look for an email with the subject "Thanks for creating VInwiki", I know you and your team get a few thousands every day, i would really appreciate it, if you took 5 minutes of your busy schedule to read my email
Don’t tell me someone tried doing it as a trade in on a lp640
I've seen the same passion from Saab owners.
Ben Marvin lets not fail to mention amc owners. Particularly the javelin.
Lexus owners aren't much better, they tend to be members of the religious right.
61 dislikes now, I think all the remaining Allante owners have checked in now! 😂
There were a few more left apparently.
I’m sure hoovie owns a good 3% of them. The ones that didn’t rust away cuz you know Italian steel!
Now 105!
The moral of the story? All car owners should not take themselves too seriously
As a former owner of a MINI Cooper, the MINI community is FILLED with arrogant douchebags like these.
The 11 Cadillac Allante owners who disliked this video have no sense of humor.

Exactly!

37* guess the values are going down🤷🏽♂️
42* bloody idiots
“Passed it around like a bottle of Boones’s Farm at a high school party” that’s classic!
I’m sorry, there’s an Allante community??
Andrew Lang, right?!?
There is a community for EVERYTHING.
Mitchell Radford I’m starting to realize this.
There's a club for pretty much every car imaginable. I am a member of the Lincoln Mark VII club. Not something you would expect to exist, but it is surprisingly big.
Hahahaha
MTV jacket and a brick phone.. sounds about right for driving a 90’s vehicle
allante's were made from 88 or 89 to 1993
@T Web do you know how good it was back then.
he clearly has old mtv confused with new mtv. typical gen z kiddo.
For some reason I can see him saying. "Does anyone have some grey poupon"?
Totalllllly.... 😜😜😜
Miami in the 90s.
I have a ‘91 (it’s in my profile picture...) I always try to avoid other Allanté owners. I would’ve loved to made it to the Concours!
Don't hate us all. I've got a 92 I love and drive almost daily.
You'd be mad too if you'd been saying the Allante was going to be serious collectors car for the past 30 years and it still hasn't happened
2 more weeks!
Not for another 2 years I want to find a clean one 1989-92 for no more than 6k bucks.
@@buzuxi blast from the past, 3 years on and they're still a bargin bin convertible
@@buzuxi Im looking at a couple 92s that have like 14K miles on the clock, for around 14 grand cash, this is probably high tho?
Alan always has the best stories. I would like to see him on here more. He is so laid back and knows how to tell a good story.
Here where I live the Allantes sell for $6000 -$12,000 . I bought one with original 60,000 miles for $7,000 . WELL WORTH THE MONEY ! Great car 4.5 is very reliable ! Very luxurious & sporty ! I have a lot of other Cadillacs & Mercedes . But The Allante Has A Special Place That Cannot Be Replaced !
So Cadillac Allante is an American version of Morris Marina.
What hated by the elderly and not known to young people?
@@willharris8632 can't stand when a piano falls on their roof
shit looks an awful lot like a torana
i just posted a comment about how the two have similar owners club
Yes I can attest Allante owners are strange. Here in Ohio I see them for sale quite a lot but never for $2000.
In fact I've never seen one for less than ten grand and if you ask the seller if they'll take less, they act like they're doing you a favor by already asking way less than it's worth. Plus I've never seen an Allante that wasn't full of problems from day 1. That said, XLR owners are even more strange and basically the 1st words out of their mouths are, it's a Corvette for grown-ups or it's a Gentleman's Luxury Corvette.
I have to confess that XLRs are really cool though. I had some minor involvement in that program when it was still in production and got to visit the line a few times. They didn't go down the regular Corvette line and were as close to "hand built" as GM is going to get in the modern era.
Last year's corvette with different body panels .
I always loved the look of the XLR but the fatal flaw was using the Northstar V8 instead of an LS.
@@E.Asinus XLR-V
The xlr-v is a corvette just without an ls motor
Having dealt with Allante owners in the past . They are classy on a budget (sipping cheap champagne from a plastic glass) , and get easily offended when you bash their beloved bastard Caddy. JR Ewing is the only man to make them remotely cool. Fun Fact....... When they first came out the only option was a factory cellular phone.
FYI: The Allante was also featured in the 1989 Sylvester Stallone movie 'Tango and Cash'
@@johna.4334 I remember that movie! I loved it. It was fun, exciting and hilarious all at the same time.
That's because it had every option available as a standard feature.
Last time I was this early, Rob Ferretti still hadn't made up his mind on Aston Martins.
Allante owner - "You're crazy, I daily drive my Cimarron just so I can maintain value on my Allante".
🤣🤣
Corvette owners be like...
Proves that the ad tagline for GM "Nobody sweats the details like GM," should be "Nobody sweats the details at GM" most times....
Easiest way to tell Allante owners have no sense of humor is the fact they drive an Allante.
Sir Bader and they have poor taste!
This guy tells a good story.
Alan, you're the man. I went to the Amelia Island Concours d'Lemons, and it was awesome. I love what you're doing with those events, and I can't wait to go to the next one.
My local Craigslist has 3 Allantes, none cheaper than $7,500. What is wrong with these people?
“ out on the road today, I saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadillac...”
J.W Berger I can see you...
I had an Allante that was a 91 and I loved the damn thing, even with a convertible top that never worked right, or the annoying beeping it makes in reverse, or the terrible mix of cheap aluminum heads on a cast iron block. I mean it was good enough for a 17 y/o me to say I've owned a caddy
Now these are the kind of stories that deserve attention. The level of execution and depth of the humor is near perfect. Well done.
Allante owners being totally humorless!? Say it ain't so.
Love the Dead Head sticker on a Cadillac
Lol
I caught the joke...
I saw it and a little voice inside my head said "Don't look back, you can never look back."
Nevermind a pre 1993 Allante, a Northstar Allante would have to be a nightmare to maintain.
The northstar engines from 93-94 are the absolute worst, 95-99 were "fair".
Whenever I hear Cadillac Allante I immediately think of the free-fall scene in Terminal Velocity.
indeed and it is the only GM car that don't feel sad about because it was damage in a movie :þ drop piano on them all.
I think of Cadillac Man. One of Robin Williams lesser appreciated movies.
@@TheBrokenLife well if you do a google search top movies 1989 and another one top movies 1990 you see why it come out in the wrong year 1993 would have been a better year for it
@@1BigBen It's a drama/comedy so... Not sure that the year was so important. He just drove one in the movie.
Yes.
Porsche 914 are kinda the same way. I had a 2.0 that I saved from the desert, polished the patina, covered it in stickers. Mechanically perfect, no rust, no body damage, truly an ideal driver's car, but when I went to a club event; other 914 owners were not happy about it. Sold that car a number of years ago, and now I "ruin" Ducati superbikes... and there is nothing more fragile than a purist Ducatista when confronted with a stickered-up 748R or a Panigale with road-rash.
Ain't lying!! 😅
My dad had an Allante, he had a great sense of humor lol
Happy Monday, I hope your Monday has not felt too much like a typical Monday and that your week is off to a good start.
FINALLY!! A venue for my '82 Lincoln Continental!! 😅
GoofyLeo3 Looks like I better bring my ‘82 along as well😂
So YOU'RE the other one! 😅
I'll sneak in with my '87 Cadillac Fleetwood lol
Wet Lettuce Just a few more and we can have our own boat show lol
Admit it, guys. Cruising down the highway with that huge hood stretching out in front of you and riding on air is just AWESOME. 😎
Why does the Allante remind me of James May?
Great story, and a great sense of humor. Well done
"We passed it around like a bottle of boones farm at high school party" LOL that's a classic!!!!
Remember hearing about the Allante owners through the LeMons recap, glad to hear a bit more background about the story.
Have you realized a lot of car guys are like, "Being the idiot that I am..." or "That's a sensible choice... Me... I'm dumb..." I think to be an awesome car guy, stupidity is a requirement. LOL
Hey, that's me!!!!!! But in my case, it's really true.............I must be awesome??!?!!
This should have WAY more views. What a great story!
I just bought an Allante to play with and do an engine swap. I asked an owner's club about finding body and interior parts. When they found out I was swapping the 4100 for an LS4, you would have thought I pissed in holy water. They can be a little intense.
"Im dumb, so Im not gonna do that..." love this quote haha
As much as I love going to the Revival Radwood sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. And holy crap! I have seen THE Cosworth Vega Dakar car. Funny how things come full circle.
I fell Asleep , Thank you :)

Make
Allante's
Great
Again
that would imply that they were great at some point
Charlie Williams your obviously unaware of Cadillac's sponsored legislation of the 1990's "A" status Dream Act- henceforth enacted upon the inception of the Allante. Each variant brought upon into existence will be classified into "Great" status........We hope.🤗
Leo yeah, some things just are not possible.
Just another Leo chiming in. We're rare. 😆
Feature an early 80s citation. “ borrowed” one from a friends parent for booze fueled road trip. Pegged the speedo for several hours cranking the stereo the whole time. Upon return the son said the car ran better than ever and the stereo even sounded better!
Larry Hagman drove 1 during the last season's of original "Dallas".
I see 19 Cadillac Allante owners already here now
Update I think there are more Cadillac Allante owners
I have an 1990 Allante and it runs perfectly. I love driving it. Has the original cell phone.
This is one of the few Vin Wiki's where I didn't think that the speaker was an asshole. Great story! in 1986 There was a Cosworth Vega in the Junkyard that I used to go to to get part for my 71 Lemans. I really wanted the 4 speed transmission out of it to replace my 3 on the tree, but the junkyard wanted $200 for it which was only about $100 less than they wanted for the whole car. It was parked next to a 68 Firebird Sprint. Both cars could have probably been made driveable without too much work and I could have bought both for about $500 total. Since I was working for about $3/hr at the time it was just to rich for my blood
If I remember correctly, Kelly Bundy (Married with children ) was working on commercial for Allante in episode.
Ikr? Now I gotta look it up. All i remember was her repeatedly saying "the newwww alantayyyyy" because she couldn't get it right, iirc
I had one. For three months. What a pile of crap. Electrical fires, heater core, digi dash issues, locked up brakes, all the understeer. And every domestic part was rusty as all get out. Pininfarina's body parts all looked amazing though. got the car in exchange for installing a boiler and made 4 grand off of it after repairs. Never again lol
It's so rare to even hear about the Allante. My grandpa bought one years ago that he was super proud of. Polished it up all the time, was very careful about who got to ride in it, but he let me drive it once and insisted I put my foot down (yeah, grandpa, its.... great). When he died my mom inherited it and it has been nothing but a money pit ever since. The radio is a gigantic cluster of electronics called the Driver Information Center.... the DIC. My mom had to purchase 2 new DIC units for the car. Not cheap! She is not looking into trading it for a nicer, newer drop top.
87, 88?
The dislikes are from guys who lost to an alante
One vote for Vinwiki top 10 stories! Very entertaining and interesting! My neighbor has a Cadillac Allante out front, 3 tires hold air & engine doesn't run. I couldn't get the HOA to tow it away. Oh, well. How could Pininfarina make such a disaster.
I bought a red 1988 drop top Allante in 1993 for $1500 bucks at auction. They were very much considered a lemon but definitely thought they were good looking back then and even better looking now. Nobody wanted a used Allante back then. They had so many electric components that went wrong that no one had a 3 year old Allante without a handful of issues already!
As a connoisseur of fine automotive turds, I'd be honored if anyone invited any of mine to a show. If I wanted to go to the "cool" show I could go to Mustang week, aka, any parking lot in America. Quirky weird stuff is where its at.
Don't know the origin of this quote, but it fits well for the Cadillac Allante owners club, I feel. "It's a joke, not a dick. Don't take it so hard."
This video had me looking up used Allantes on Autotrader, for the fun of it. I found one that would allow me to drop in on a high school classmate if I went there to buy it. I always liked the looks of this car, and if Cadillac had been more serious about it, they might be perceived more seriously as a luxury brand. After all, Mercedes has stuck with the SL through thick and thin. There has been a SL, there is an SL, and there probably will always be one. The SL, as far as I'm concerned is one of the real Mercedes Benzes. It is a shame that Cadillac couldn't cultivate anything (besides the Escalade) long enough to let it grow in the marketplace.
Shame the owners seem to not realize that the failure of the car in the marketplace isn't the failure of the car itself. Anything that can survive two 24 hours of LeMons is not to be trifled with. I don't know who else has managed that, but still...
100%. Those 90s SLs aren't exactly impressive these days, but they're timeless, and comparing them to the competition (the Allante, the Reatta, the XJS, etc.) you realize how much of an icon they were when no one else could compete even when they tried.
Lmao that don Henley reference was pretty good.
As a 23 year old member of a Cadillac Club, I can attest that there is very little humor going on there. Maybe it's because the people tend to be older, or that it's a small community? I'm not sure, but when I find somebody at the meets who also likes FWD burnouts it's always a good time.
What use is a big block if you ain't gonna do burn out with it lol.
Which FWD is yours?
Can we just hang out? Alan sounds like a huge blast to hang out.
Allante owners: Hey man, we're trying to Ed Bolian the Allante...they are RARE and sought after and the prices are (eventually) about to go UP! :D
I worked at a Cadillac dealership in SoCal about 10 years ago. The Drivability/ Diag tech (worked there for decades) told me the Allante club had him on speed dial for side-jobs. He also said they would spend serious money on their cars. But I was advised to never work on their cars since they are notoriously fanatical and would hound me till the day I died. 😂
Oh man I remember the boons farm days. Those were some good times.
It's actually kind of amazing that these cars haven't garnered more of a following. I mean how crazy is it that the bodies were assembled in Italy and FLOWN to the US for drivetrain. What was the cost per body? If it didn't have an absolutely horrible drivetrain they'd be collectable. That and the interior kind of sucked. But ignoring all that, it's a cool story.
Hilarious! Remember Kelly Bundy from Married With Children? - The neeewwwww ALLANTE!!" The Bundy bounce. YES!
This seems like a pretty cool event, good for my 85 Cutlass supreme 4dr with a factory 305 Chevy engine
Happy Monday to Ed and vinwiki. God bless.
That mullet wig lol
Y’all need to do one for the Pontiac Fiero. I had one in college...not exactly a high end sports car, but lots of fun. If I still had one, I’d be the first one to put my tongue firmly in my cheek, in my Don Johnson white Miami Vice outfit 🤣
If you still had one you’d probably be burnt toast in the drivers’ seat. Lol
Aaron Wallace mine actually did catch fire 🤣. It was one of the early ones where that was popular. It was only a “small” fire in the engine bay, and no damage, but I did trade it in soon after that!
Because the engine wiring harness was within an inch of the exhaust manifold. Don't ask me how I know. 😆
I saw an Allante when I was car shopping I was wondering why they’re so high my dad said they were rare I bought a convertible Mercedes and still spent less
Cadillac Allante’s Sale for over $10,000 at the moment ! You can definitely get one for $4-8 grand but will have issues . I’m a car dealer I’ve been trying to look for this car for 6 months now & even at the auction it goes easy over $3,000 with over 100k miles . Car is great ! But has a small market ! But worth every penny !
I loved this story and you can definitely see Ed’s influence on his story telling as he ended with the “shrewd negotiator” line
Hey neighbor waving hi from Mission N Geneva!!
Just remember the Allante from Tango and Cash. Think I have only seen one in person. I lived in SoCal during the era. I have seen more F40, Contachs, and Diablos than the Allante. LOL
So fancy, but yet so Doug
He needs to be on here more...he is super funny complete opposite of rabbit but I need more of his stories
Love this channel...wish the lighting was better on the story teller in this one.
Literally was looking at an allante yesterday 22k miles original owner they ‘re actually decent cars and you never get that with the 90’s lol
I know this is an older video, but happened upon it. We have a 1993 Cadillac Allante, and it has its fair share of hooptie car issues. If something like this was to happen again and I could get the time off, I'd go regardless of what others think. I love the car, its quirks, but have no grand illusions as to it's potential value as a collector. Hell, despite being a 1993, it's so over the top 1980's, we even created a 1980's soundtrack for it. By the time we have all of it's foibles and issues sorted, including having the infamous Northstar leaks, and getting the too small head bolts replaced with a stud kit to prevent the virtually guranteed head gasket failures that hit these engines. Have fun, have a sense of humor and for those who are mad at everything, learn to laugh at yourself. Life is always better that way.\
Wow I'm surprised those Allante owners are like that. Seems like a car show like that would be a lot of fun
First time I went to Vegas in 1990 there was an Allante at the aladdin up on a pedestal surrounded by slot machines. If you got three allantes in a row you won the car. At the time I thought it was one of the most beautiful cars I had ever seen. So I played the meager amount of quarters I had trying to win the thing. No luck of course but I swore that one day I would own one....thirty years on I still think it's a good looking car but it's no longer on my bucket list.
Also I predict the Allanté wave is coming.
this is no joke, the PRESIDENT of the Allante club is my neighbor.. ALWAYS has at least 4 of them on the street or in the driveway...can’t say i’m surprised at his response to you gracious offer...
Allante jihad, i lost it hahaha
Last time I was this early Pininfarina was still designing Cadillacs and not drink machines
Last time I was this early Cadillac made solid and respectable luxury cars. Today it's one or the other.
Rad wood is awesome , I've been to one in Austin
Every time I see a Cadillac allante I think of Christina Applegate
I just think of Christina Applegate at the end of Married W/Children and I'm happy, full stop. 😆
Not a Boomer, I was in my teens when these came out. They were unattainable for most anyone in my age group and most people for that matter at that time. It's just kinda cool to be able to own something on the cheap that you couldn't have had back then. I think that's the draw for most people who own these (I have a 1993 , awesome condition with 125k miles). We're not trying to be pretentious, maybe just reliving our youth if that makes sense. Maybe that's why owners get angry when people make fun of the Allante, since it owned/occupied a space and time that meant something to many and represented a time when GM would actually take risks. I always appreciated that about GM, I also own an 88 Reatta btw, which was another dreamer car of mine, completely unattainable back then, damn well ahead of it's time in terms of technology.
Who else remembers the "Married with Children" episode where Kelly invents the bundy bounce to introduce the new allante
Right here, ah yes butt hurt Allante owners that i'm sure forgot it was featured on a great show with no class. I have the Sony pictures complete series of Married with Children on dvd and it's currently on hulu.
Wooo the only part of Monday i like. P.s. Miata lol. Happy Monday guys let the week begin 🤙🏼🤘🏻🤘🏻👌🏼
I think the Allante is screaming for a LS or LT swap!
when I worked for Cadillac, there were two of us trying to get both the hard top and the convertible top to not leak. After a year of this they send a team of engineers down to show us how its done. they worked with us for a week. At the end of the week I had the pleasure of holding the hose on the car while the engineers got soaked. They immediately
left after that.
regarding trhe ad at the end for ceramic coating. you should do half the car. then a long trip. are you saying if you didnt have it, the bugs wouldnt blast off with a pressure washer? i put a ceramic coating on my car. i still just dont know if its snake oil or not.
I just love the idea of doing this stuff. Wish I had more money and room for more cars. Thinking of getting a cheap runner of some cool car I can work on. Stipulation is it can’t be common but it needs to be cheap as a base to start with. Throw me some ideas lol
Brick phones are for gentlemen
Owner of a 1990 allante here, too bad the club didn’t bite on that. They take themselves too seriously
