    America’s only 2 seater roadster? Ever hear of this car that was around for 40 years the Corvette?

    • @joedude9954
      @joedude9954 3 года назад +1

      I agree . Roadster is a misname . A roadster traditionally didnt have glass roll up windows. The allante was really jist a 2 door convertible, which is really what the corvette was. Caddy tryimg to distingush themselves.

      Why not keep the northstar and get the cam and tune package from northstar performance. Then port and polish the heads and new custom exhaust and you are at 450 hp

      In their defense, out of the box it was a great engine. When Northstar came out almost every review talked about Cadillac finally getting an engine to compete with Lexus and MB. Issues (And there were some big ones) usually didn't show up until the fourth or fifth year of ownership. And then it was hit and miss.
      Unfortunately, if you owned one that had dealt with heat issues or the owner didn't have maintenance done on time. Or preferably earlier. You were screwed.
      They did make a kit that fixed the Northstar's problems. But it cost $4-$5K, had to have the engine removed to install by a professional (Not a DIY job), and subsequently rarely installed.

      @rob61j55 Год назад

      @@christopherconard2831 Good points, all true. They were initially smooth and powerful engines, and the show producers had no way of knowing the underlying problems at the time. With that said, I probably still wouldn't buy one that's had the stud repair kit upgrade.

    It's funny to watch this video 27 yrs later and know the worst part of this car was the NorthStar engine that plaqued GM because of its cylinder head failure. If the engine swap was easy, I'd love to buy one and swap the engine. Still a stylish car

    • @TeeroyHammermill
      @TeeroyHammermill 4 года назад +2

      Nope. HT series was way worse than Northstar. Northstar was in production for 18 model years and made up to 469hp with a 100,000mi warranty. Not bad at all.

    Typical GM wanna be failure. Admittedly, however, a very good looking car and it would be the inspirational basis of the Cadillac look for years to follow. The desire to compete with the likes of Jaguar and Mercedes, but not having the wherewithal to do it right, (commitment and quality). Over priced and under engineered. Close to 60 K a copy, and it had a manual top??? And by the end, which was decided in late '91, just as is GM's way, once they "started" to get it ironed out, they cancelled the program. Complete with cheap interior appointments. and Front Wheel Drive........... Really ??? ,....in a sportscar. And yes, the N/S engine?? What a joke !!! It was prone to leaking oil and head failures, requiring a substantial cost to correct. Sad....like so many other tries.....just another write off for the company.

      Even at $60K GM still lost money on them. But it was probably intended as a halo car from the beginning.
