Don't forget prot pally has a lot of interrupts via avenger's shield and you can help your healer out with some big protection/healing CDs. Massive utility that's very pug friendly.

      @rfjohnson69 4 месяца назад +8

The pug value for prot pally should not be overlooked. The interrupts will be huge with the new stop behavior as well.
As a healer I would much rather have a protnoally I need to heal but who is mitigating huge party damage with interrupts than the other way around.
The other utility is big too (blessings, etc.
This coming from someone who is in the 12-14 3k range. Higher keys are different of course

Agreed, if you are going to PUG to 2500+ rating, Prot Paladin is the way. You can compensate for the crappy 3rd DPS in the group, pull a garbage healer over the finish line and do 90% of the interrupts and mechanics by yourself.

Guardian’s simplicity is a strength, allowing you to focus on mechanics and still stay above 80% before even needing to press Frenzied Regeneration or instant Regrowths (which heal other party members for a LOT). It can deal great damage, has a lot of built-in damage reductions, the talent tree allows you to adjust damage profiles to be arcane or physical, and you can really choose how complicated your rotation will be

The best skill you can develop as a new tank is learning to use your classes full tool-kit and getting better at preemptive vs reactionary actions.
As a Blood DK, you take a lot of front loaded damage, so running into a big pack with a trinket or cooldown will make that initial mob gathering less painful.
Blood DK is more of a reactionary tank. You take big hits while building up Runic Power for healing back the damage. Think of Runic Power as a second health bar.

I'd like to add something to Blood DK. You said "the more damage you took recently,...". Blizzard kind of nerfed Deathstrike, so it only takes one event in the last 5 seconds, which means the highest income in the last 5 seconds. It isnt like in the past where you would sometimes press DS 2 times in a row in some situations, because now the second Deathstrike only would do the minimum amount not the highest from all sources in the past 5 seconds.
If you told that in the video, i maybe missed it, but thats something people need to get used to and have to take into account.

    • @Flummiification

is this true? because it isn't reflected in the tooltip EDIT: WoWhead says: if the first hit was higher than the minimum, the calculation window starts fresh. meaning the second one within 5s is likely to give munimum. the first one still seems to value all damge of the last 5s. correct me if that should be wrong. this would mean that you don't have to worry about saving runepower for two deathstrikes and get more value wif you space them a bit wich seems easier to me.

Word of glory is similar to death strike in the way it heals but in this case according to health level. It is almost like a short CD lay on hands. For a pugging beginner world of Glory should actually take priority over shield of rightneousness if your health is low. As you push to harder difficulties then SoR should take priority. But again WoG and kiting should take priority and a defensive CD if your healer is overwhelmed.

I have been tanking for some years and in this expansion I tried BDK in higher content for the first time. It is by far the most complicated tank. So many things to keep track of. Starting the first pull of the dungeon is always scary as you don't have any runic power or boneshields (later i learn that then its when you use dancing runing weapon lol, so get some free stacks of boneshield before the first pack). All those things you don't need to do with any other tanks. They are way more simple.

I started WoW as a brand new player (S3 DF, April) with a blood DK. I did slow progression by only questing (took a couple of weeks) because I knew WoW had a crazy learning curve. I have now cleared 2/3 awakened raids on Heroic and a few early bosses on Mythic. While I would like extra mobility, it's been incredibly rewarding and I'm looking forward to my first expansion. Shoutout to your Blood DK guide for helping me learn the rotation.
I will disagree with 15:11, DK gets Purgatory, which is a second chance if you make a mistake and run through somewhere you shouldn't have (it has saved me from causing a wipe numerous times).

Playing DH, BDK, bear and prot pala I must say the pala is king of PUGs. But DH is still king when it comes to big pulls, not just getting them all in control but also surviving. (having all dungeons on +10 in time, tyrannical and fortified).

    • @Jo-Jo8vs
      @Jo-Jo8vs 4 месяца назад +2

So, if you play a tank such as a DBK or a melee to plan your resources carefully, playing a DH tank should be too difficult for you. But I played Prot Pala for years before, and it took me a while to get used to the DH tank. So, switching might be a good idea if you are already familiar with the content and can concentrate more on the rotation. Also, choose a more defensive skill at the beginning, especially the cheat death option, because, as a DH, you can easily be killed if making an error, especially at the beginning of a pull.

I wanna give prot warrior another chance. I was a top 1% M+ tank in season 1 and 2 in Dragonflight and I tried all the tanks (not getting 1% with every tank ofc), but warrior never really clicked for me. Especially in tyrannical weeks on hard hitting bosses I felt VERY helpless. I was rage starved from only attack one mob (the boss) and having to spam ignore pain while keeping shield block up. Every 7 seconds a shield slam and every 5 seconds a thunder clap doesn't really generate much rage.
Is feeling helpless just part of the prot warriors life at some point? Should I embrace it and blame the healer? Or can I magically pull more rage out of my ass?

I'm likely to have tank off spec this time around, just because pugging as dps can get painful towards the end of each season when numbers start dropping, especially if the dps spec being mained doesn't end up being meta etc.
That said, as I'm planning on maining Unholy DK, casually dropping into Blood Tanking towards the end of the expansion could be tricky. Especially as by that point, I'll likely have decent gear etc, but lack the tanking experience to jump straight into tanking the same key levels I have been dpsing - which in turn also skews learning, as naturally one decides to start tanking in lower keys to give a bit more leeway, but then you're just carried by your gear and don't always get a grasp of what is or isn't dangerous lol

I have played all tanks at top 1% and i'm surprised prot pala is not one of the hardest to play. If you don't play around consecration, you are dead. If you fuck up you cd's (one of your 6-7 defensives), you are dead. If you heal too much, you run oom and die. If you do not keep your armor stacks up, you die. If you spend your holy power at the wrong time, you die.
I guess prot paladin is easy to get started with, but is considerably harder to play effeciently at higher key levels. VDH is so much easier to play. You can even spec into a decent build where you can have your spikes up permanently. Just use it whenever it's ready and you can literally walk through the dungeon without pressing anything else.

I agree on DK being the hardest to master , but I don't agree on DH being the second hardest :D I think Brewmaster is way harder than DH to master in tanking , with DH you basically have 3 main things going on , keeping demon spikes , fiery brand , and jungling your meta CD with Fel Devastation that's about all you have to worry about as a starting DH , as a starting brewmaster you often fuck up the stagger purify that's like the one and only toolkit you have to survive properly that's it , if you are new you will often get way more dmg than you need to , putting a lot of stress on the healer. Also for guardian , while being the easiest to learn , it is still the middle of the pack while being in the pug world cause of reliance of cooldowns and leech mechanics , in the pug world the easiest tank to learn is warrior , the only mechanics you have to learn is mitigate damage and you pretty much have a 3-5 buttons rotation.

If this was a hardest to master ranking I'd absolutely agree with it. Okay lets say agree for the most part, ppal really doesnt have a lot of skill ceiling going on unlike pwar and guardian. However, with the purpose in mind of getting a fresh tank starter to cap his vault with as little learning as possible, both BDK and VDH are literally the top choices. Why? As long as you follow one simple rule - dont get in naked and rp/fury starved looking for back scratches - youre literally unkillable, 100% self-sustaining and can play recklessly offensive in a +10 since zero cooldown and resource management is involved. VDH complexity ramps up drastically as soon as the key level and your comp require you to use your gigantic CC portfolio, while with BDK things get spicy as soon as physicals can global you through your mitigation baseline. Both is not gonna happen in a +10, even if youre severly undergeared.

The good thing for Monk is, that your standard attacks, your standard rotation, it doesn't really matter that much what skill you press or in what order. There's some synergy, but not it's not like a warrior where you use revenge just one time too much and suddenly you're rage starved and can't use shield block or ignore pain - or paladin, where you have clear "generators" and "spenders" even with a choice how to spend your holy power.

Prot Paladin is the hardest to play for a newcomer by far, but when you really get it it’s in many ways the easiest. You have a lot of healing you can distribute to the group, major utility for yourself and others, and high DPS potential for a tank. Prot Paladin is for the player who will embrace having many keybinds and use the whole utility package, including BoS and BoP. And they’re rewarded if they can master it.

But that also just could be me playing ppal for way too long and pwar feeling dumb af in comparison. Especially when TWW launches and people get to max level the difference will be a bit bigger too as pwar is staying at same level of dumb(you just spam thunder clap a bit more) while ppal is getting new ally buff or another layer of Can i spend holy power on this(hammer of light) instead of sotr. Vengence Demon Hunter is so hard. I struggle to remember the two buttons I'm constantly pressing while tanking. Sometimes when I get in a bind I have to remember the other three buttons for my defensives and mitigation. I don't know how I manage. I'm thinking Vengence DH should be on the other end of Prot nearer to Palidian who have more migitagtion/defensives the DH. Not to mention to two charages of essentially Heroic Leap on faster cooldowns that allow them to just choose where they want to be at any moment making dodging a breeze. If ask me the list goes easiest: Vengence DH, Prot Paladin, Bear, Prot Warrior, Blood DK, and Brewmaster. Saying you have to pop a defensive before the big pool is like verbally admitting that the biggest difficulty with Vengence is remembering you have to pop before pull. Seems simple enough if ask me and certainly easier than managing stagger, squishness, defensives, mitigation, and stunning with leg sweep all at the same time just to stay alive! Vengence 5 button tanking has got nothing on the 12+ button convoluted differed damage juggle.

I'd say that tanking in low keys (maybe until 12-13 or so) it's one of the easiest and chill tanks to play. You don't care about healer you can do everything yourself. But when going to push more on high keys it tends to be a lot more difficult: resource management, 1 shots and proper cd manangement is crucial to stay alive, especially when you don't want to kite ever 2 mobs around cause you insta die.
At least from my experience on higher keys you either get a really good BDK or a really bad one, didn't really find something between :)

I think it's a bit misleading to rank tanks from easy to hard, because the difficulty is different for "learning" to play or "mastering" to play.
The DK for example is probably the easiest tank to learn with how much self-sustain he has. Very forgiving overall, even if you don't have your mitigation or def CDs up, you can just heal yourself. Playing DK in high keys on the other hand is a constant reaction time check with how bouncy your HP bar is. Being one if not the least tanky tank also doesn't help in every other regard in high keys.
Monk on the other hand is hard to learn, but once you understand stagger (and get a WA) it's fairly easy to play in my opinion. He has enough def CDs to make your life easier and it's not THAT important which attack you press as long as you press something.
Paladin is also easy to learn. Maybe not as easy as DK, but it's straight forward and you have good selfheal. Mastering on the other hand can be tricky. Chosing between a (self)heal and your mitigation always feels bad. Having to stand in you consecration also feels bad. Keeping an eye on your team to support them with blessings and heals while trying to survive a high key, feels like playing a healer on hard mode.

      2) What Quazii and apparently you as well dont know is: The stacks and therefore armor gains through iron fur are not capped. However, your maximum physical DR is, at 85%. Considering youre endgame geared for the season, you'll reach the 85% cap against a 3 level higher elite boss at 5 or 6 stacks. If you dont believe me, feel free to take that topic to Dreamgrove, all the theorycrafters and highio players will confirm this.
      3) The damage gain through thorns of iron is evenly distributed and square root scales beyond the 4th stack, so dont even try, it doesnt justify overstacking as well.
      4) The art of tanking is and has always been to find the sweet spot in mitigation, selfsustain and throughput. Its funny that you mention 'keep playing like you only do low keys'. Because the higher you go, the more offensive you literally have to play. For one, because the timer forces you, any additional dps matters. And two, the higher you go, the better performing your dps mates will be, forcing you to keep up with the threat. Which is especially true for prepatch with classes like Frost DKs and Furywarriors easily ripping threat worth of 1million+ tank dps. I'm a regular high tier booster at Nova, and if I see you mindlessly stacking furs while my dps toon is getting pummeled from AA leashers, youre gonna 100% get the smoke for tank malperformance.
