- Hey guys! So I was looking at a few videos and I saw people saying their fps was like in the 20's whenever they step outside. In this video I fix that problem. Mine was 30-40 fps on max and now it's around 70fps with the added tweaks.

I have about 45 fps in dying light when im looking at horde of zombies, my card is GIGABYTE R9 280x and im asking how many fps did you have before this tutorial? i had problems with this card about month ago and i dont know if its not broken.
It's the game dude. It's really poorly optimized for PC. I had about the same but with this I get 70fps, never goes below 50 though.

No. Nosteam. That's where I go for all the triple A games to see if they're any good. If they're not, then I know I haven't just wasted £40 on a game that's broken, unfinished or buggy. I believe everyone should do the same.
the only way that i found and is still a tradisional way to increase FPS in these games are to turn shadows as low as possible

Nah dude, this cpu is amazing! There is no bottleneck what so ever in this pc. Search up i7 4790k vs pentium g3258 and when overclocked to 4.5Ghz (Mine's at 4.4Ghz) it performs just as good. There won't be a bottleneck, even if I get a 980. I picked my cpu carefully brooo!! :D

ok after doing a bunch of tests i have come to the conclusion that it is the fire that is causing the fps drops. everytime i come across fire it drops. now my question for you is there a way to turn off the fire animations in a similar fashion as to what you did in this videoo? i was going through all the files but i couldnt find the fire folder. could you help?

First solution works, but it makes the game ugly. Like, really ugly. So ugly that I would rather play on min. settings. However, the high priority thing works on pretty much all my games, so the video was still worth watching.

Bacon Boy Greaaaat. First go into device manager, click video adapters and tell me what it says. Then click the start button, right click on 'Computer' and click properties. Tell me the CPU and the RAM there. Should be 'intel core...' something or 'AMD...' something.
im upgrading my pc soon with a 8 gb ram stick and an SDD 500g and ill see if if works then.
Bacon Boy RAM is needed, SSD isn't. I would upgrade your GPU or CPU first.

At first I kinda had doubt, but once I tried it and opened the dying light, I was like really surprised... I used to have problems in zombie hordes cuz the lag in that situation was so bad, but now just like a calm flowing water ✌

@@udiitBh No, that was 3 years ago, times change, and I play the game on a better PC now, but I'll tell you what happened.
I went into the config files and changed the display resolution to 896x504 (extremely pixelated 16:9), shadow resolution to 128 (very crap, but I also didn't want to completely disable them)
Then I made use of some Dying Light Manager's magic and disabled some post processing effects like film grain and chromatic aberration, and then disabled intro videos.
Those options were implemented into the game at a later update however and I just didn't find a use for it anymore. And the intro could be skipped (forgot how, but I always skipped it)
And, well.. That's it, the game ran like shit on 4GB's of ram and integrated Intel HD 4400 graphics, I just lived with 20-25 FPS, 30 if underground or in some story specific area that didn't load many things, it is playable, and not as bad as the video, it's not "stuttery" and more like a "slow motion" type of lag.
Trust me, I've finished that game more times than I could remember on the hardest difficulty at those specs. Dying Light ain't that expensive if your eyes are fine with slow frametimes.

You must have done something wrong then. Works for me and everyone else that's tried it. Repair your game.
Safety precautions:-always make a backup folder of any game before testing these steps.

You would be dumb if you gut the paid version. These devs spent no time at all optimizing this for pc gamers, especially for AMD customers. I'm not going to let them steal my money for something that shouldn't have a £40 price tag on it, when the beafiest systems with 980's still have trouble running this game above 30 fps sometimes. It's disgusting and more people need to do it too.

SideswipePrime Someone else had this problem, they fixed it by playing around with the shadow mapping or something in the graphics options.

Hello, i have a problem, my game has random fps drop for a minute or so and then comes back up, I have a NVIDIA 860M and I tried to do the task manager fix but it isnt very helpful. Please help!
HELP! When I turn on fullscreen it says cannot display this video mode change computer display input to 1366x768@60hz but the resolution is on 1366x768 but idk how to chance the hz cause I don't find them on options!!

Keeps saying the file can't save because in use by another program.. This is coming up even after a reboot.. I did everything exactly as you, only difference being im on win 7.. not sure if that matters.. Does anyone know why this file change wont save?

well I have a problem I was able to run this game no problem on 40 frames but when I installed a new drivers for my graphics card it runs on 50 but mostly when I turn around or walk it drops to 3 fps.But if I look 1 direction I get back up 50 fps. Do you know what is the problem and I don't want to roll back my drivers.(btw I have an r7 260x 1gb)

THX dude this really helped me, the only bad thing about this method is just the game looks weird without shadow sun. BUT at least is really playable i get like 50 avg and 35 minimun.

Actually it did ! I still had minor fps drops when entering different areas(loading) but after few secs fps are calm again. I played for 5 hours and it was all fine. We beat the game. ^^ Thanks for the tutorial.

any idea how to keep it from reverting to windowed mode when I specifically tell it to go to full screen. I tried Notepad++ video.scr setting it to full and disabling Oculus, when I reboot windows, it just goes back to the default.

okaaay using these instructions, ive broke my game, now im going to have to reinstall. but i was using winrar not winzip, and i tried to replace the modified files with the old ones in the archive. is that not necessary? i just dont see how it would read the modified files in a custom folder made in my documents. help plz someone. says data is corrupted and wont start.

Thx for the video bro. Improved my frames by like 3 fps.(no sarcasm). But I'm still having some major lag. At the main start screen the cursor and the game lags at like 10-20. I've been able to run pretty much all my games fine but this one.I have i5 8gigs ram thx.

yo help! my monitor refresh rate is 60 hertz and I get 70 - 80 fps but for some reason it feels terrible it feels like 30 fps.

Yes, everything the same. I still have shadows. I have actually done this exact thing before and it greatly improved my FPS but it won't work this time. :/

People complaining about performance and Im here unable to find an actual working fix to the constant crashing every 10-15 minutes while in mid-game.
+Luna Grey I know this is a pretty late reply, and you probably don't even care anymore, but patch 1.3.0 fixed my crashing issues (crashed ever 10-15 minutes)

visiøn if you bought the game on steam or in gamestop get them from steam if you torrented the game (im not gonna blame you if you did. but then you can get the updates from piratebay or nosteam start with the first update 1.2 move on to 1.4 and then to 1.5 and then to 1.6 and your done.

When I started dying light on epic games It was working amazing but then I changed some settings in video and it started lagging like hell when I returned to my resolution

I have a PS4 instead of a PC, but I am hopeing someone can shed some light on my problem. Every single time I try to run somewhere in the game, it starts to lag. It doesn't matter if I am trying to run down the street or across a rooftop. I have committed suicide several times trying to run and jump from building to building. I am currently trying to beat the Tobias Ultimate Weapon final mission, but I need to be able to run. Ugh! It's so irritating! Please help.
+KD Hoot The thing is, people think badly optimized games only go out to PC users. But when the console has problems, you just can't fix them. You will have to wait for a patch or, if it really is that bad, take up Sony's customer support services and see what's going on if this issue is not gameside. However, there are a lot of people on console, both Xbox and PS4, who are having frame rate issues.

Here's a tip. When you're sharing a useful bunch of fixes and talking over your video...ditch the background music.
I agree, the music should have been a little quieter but I don't think I'll ever take it out all together unless I deem it necessary. Thanks though! :P
