That knife does look great and probably one of the best products to come out of Russia, and they should be very proud of it at the company making them.

Thanks for another great video, and another knife to be placed on my RADAR... as far as the age test... it was John Cameron Swayze who made "it takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'" a household phrase for the Timex watch company. Keep up the good work.

John Cameron Swayze said it for Timex watch commercials. He was right by the way. A great line for a "working man's" watch which wasn't expensive. If your dad or granddad has a Timex in an old shoebox or drawer, chances are it still works. That is a killer blade Bryan. I would say more survivor than bushcraft, but a good bushcrafter could make it work and look easy doing it. Thanks for showing it. I remember when you found that piece of fatwood. You left some fatwood there for later use. In another year or three you will have to harvest some more.

I'm not a fan of batoning and I certainly like several Kizlyar blades a lot, however one has to be aware and careful that sometimes this can happen, in cold weather:
      ruclips.net/video/C47epuVdkhE/видео.html
      ruclips.net/video/IjMLud4oKeg/видео.html
Certainly can happen to blades of any brand anywhere, so be careful what you ask and when your knife to do.

Bryan, very nice knife but it screams for a leather sheath.
The phrase Takes a licking and keeps on ticking was used in Timex Watch Commercials in the 70’s. The man who said that Tag line was John Swayze aka Time Swayze. I’ve pretty much worn a Timex watch of some kind all my life. After I learned to tell time, my Grandma gave me a new one every year for my Birthday

Pgk isn't similar to D2(way different composition), its made by Latrobe or Lohmann and it's their version of Cru-wear/PD1/Z-wear. That should make it great stuff and Kizlyar says its heat treated to about 62hrc (depending on the model, this one I saw 62hrc, others I've seen 61-62 or 62-63 range)which is pretty good for that class of steel. It should still have a lot of toughness and at the same time have very high wear resistance.

It's not a traditional tanto shape. The point and the whole proportions of the blade look more like a tanto-length wakizashi than anything. Most traditional tanto had a full-flat or very high sabre grind. Hardly any of them had what many westerners consider a "tanto-point" - instead the width of the blade tapered along the whole length terminating in a very acute point.

Also, in half a century of knockin' around the mountains, desert and jungles of the world in all seasons I have never had to baton anything. I'd probably make life miserable for anyone using a knife of mine to do so. It makes me cringe to see it. Like using a handgun for a hammer.

John Cameron Swayze. I just looked him ☝SARASOTA, Fla. -
John Cameron Swayze, a pioneering television journalist who later delivered the famous line “It takes a licking and keeps on ticking” in Timex watch commercials, is dead at 89.
The newscaster and announcer with the folksy voice died Tuesday at his home.
After becoming host of the 15-minute “Camel News Caravan” on NBC in 1949, Swayze developed into one of the first popular TV personalities.
The show, sponsored by Camel cigarettes, was the forerunner of the modern newscast and boasted presenting “today’s news today.” It replaced a straight newsreel format with live shots, interviews and commentary.
Swayze, who was host for seven years, was known for the opening line “hopscotching the world for headlines” and the carnation on his lapel. His sign-off was also fondly quoted by the public as a farewell phrase: “Glad we could get together tonight.”
“When he signed off [with that phrase],” said his son, John Cameron Swayze Jr., “he really meant it, and I think people understood that he meant it.”
During the 1950s, Swayze held other broadcasting jobs, serving as a panel member on the NBC quiz show “Who Said That?” and was emcee of a children’s educational show, “Watch the World.”
After “Camel News” folded in 1956, Swayze went to work for Timex and was featured in its commercials for 20 years.
The ads showed the watches being subjected to various kinds of abuse, always emerging intact. Elephants stomped on the watches in one commercial, and another showed a watch strapped to the pontoon of a plane landing in water.
A Wichita, Kan., native, Swayze began his career as a reporter with the Kansas City Journal Post. He later switched to radio, and did a brief stint on pioneering television in Kansas City in 1933.
He permanently moved into the new medium in 1948, when it wasn’t considered a plum assignment. Many journalists referred to it as the “thing,” Swayze recently recalled.
Even as television began to grow in the 1950s, Swayze saw it in conservative perspective.
“Newspapers are necessary if one is to have the complete story of what is going on in the world,” he said in an address to the Los Angeles Advertising Club in 1952. “Neither radio nor TV can give the background of a news story the way a daily newspaper can.
"[But] television . . . has the extra dimension of the pictorial to aid it in telling a news story. Television more than any other medium brings the story to the public and lets the viewer make up his own mind.”
Last year, Swayze moved from Connecticut to Sarasota, which had been his winter home since 1986.
In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife, Beulah Mae; a daughter, Suzanne Patrick; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
