Well i guess this is better than nothing. Definitely sounds good for replayability. Getting closer to Vermintide. But I was hoping for improved crafting.
At some point during verm’s life cycle they talked about on a dev stream how incredibly complicated removing and replacing their crafting systems are and how long it would take them. They did say we’re gonna be getting a revamped crafting system, but from that comment they made years ago I doubt we’ll be seeing it anytime soon
Crafting or more accurately "an overhaul of our current itemisation process" is apparently next after the Penance rework: (From the "What’s coming up in Darktide?" - 13th March) "Our first update will focus on a comprehensive revamp and expansion of the penance system.... Following this, we are working on an overhaul of our current itemisation process. With the new system we want to remove a lot of the unpredictable grind that came from an RNG heavy system whilst giving players more agency and a steady manner to progress toward specific loadouts, blessings, and stats refinement."
My favorite part of this update is the renaming and re-customizing of my characters. I had previously re-leveled some more characters just so I can RP or enjoy some of the other character lines.
Agreed. However, changing your character's name, voice etc is something so basic, it should have been in the game at launch. And now they're adding this feature as if it's rocket science. Same for the crafting lottery, something like this should not have been in the first place.
I think fixing the penances and then the crafting system to remove the RNG (what's next apparently). AND THEN releasing a bunch of new content to actually draw people back with might work well. As Penances and Crafting are the two foundational subsystems of the game that people seem to have the most problems with. (As we've had the Auric & Malestrom missions in Patch #12 and the Class & Talents Overhaul fixed many of the problems with missions and classes). By which time the Honeymoon period will be over with Helldivers 2 will be over and instead new players will be posting about the IMPOSSIBLE SUPERCREDIT GRIND! to earn their backlog of Premium Warbonds. The Honeymoon period might also be over for Space Marine 2's launch as well...
Im afraid by the time they do that it will already be too late (if it isnt already). Games still not in a finished state and alot of gamers recognize that kind of thing immediately.. which is why 99% of them left in 1 month, and will not return The only people who will buy this are the people who see it on sale on steam for 7$ long after the games prime; like VT 2. Theyre the ones oblivios to all thats happened so far.
A good start for 2024 (finally !) but I hope we won't have to wait another 5 months for the next update for just a rework of an already existing mechanic. New maps, new weapons and new modes need to follow as well.
Honestly, I wanted a decent optimization in the game, okay, a whole new way to get skins without having to pay is welcome, a rework is welcome, but the serious crash and optimization problems are frustrating my experience, I wanted something to really change that.
That will most likely be the new faction they add in the future. Here's hoping that unlike the beastmen in vt2 the gene stealers will be balanced and not busted
I'm glad they're adding a new enemy and status condition, but I do hope that they can add more stuff like that affects actual game play rather than cosmetics. Cosmetics are cool but more stuff to do like a new boss or map would be great.
And if they ever get the chance to add more voice lines that use more of your characters background, that would be awesome. However unlikely that may be.
I agree. I'm not going to come back for cosmetics just to do the same content over and over again. Plus, I'm pretty much done experimenting with every weapon in the game because, well, we've only received new "variants" of weapons, but no new actual weapon classes.

God forbid we get new maps or new bosses or new weapons. So what we get this in two weeks and then wait until june if were lucky or maybe even july or august for more content? @@For_the-Emperor there are dozens and dozens of people who work there but the way they operate would lead you to believe its 3 guys in a shed working on darktide and apparently its been that way forever. The fact that the last time we got content we got two maps and a bunch of reskinned variants of weapons we already had is insane. There are so many data mined weapons in this game that we dont have it is mine boggling to me they arent pushing this stuff out. Also i think because of the console release people forget that this game has been out for almost two years and we truly havent gotten but like 4 maps and a dozen different variants or new weapons. Thats piss poor in my opinion and especially because the ogryn is dying for new weapons and the psyker is dying for a new staff. Every update im like oh the higher ups over there really truly dont care about any of this and it sure feels that way.
I wonder if the new bomber’s gas will work like the gas during the twins boss fight, just to make it a bit more interesting than a reskin of the existing bomber.

helldivers is a waste of your time and money. I got it, expecting gameplay that if not similar was at least comparable to darktide in practice and what I got was 40 dollars of game that looks just good enough to convince people it was worth the price. The only 2 good things I can say about helldivers is that it's extremely pretty and the sound design is top tier. other than that, the gameplay is as fun and interesting as a visual novel where the dialogue options are "explosion" or "no explosion" whenever you are presented with an option.
Why does every game franchise now have to use this whole "carrot-stick" unlockable rewards system to keep people engaged? I don't want to grind for unlockables in every game I play. How about new story content, new maps, new enemies, new tactics, new weapons, etc? I guess those things take more work, and generate less revenue, than the psychological hook of adding stuff to grind for?
FWIW, they have done that too. We’ve gotten something like 4-6 new maps, a monster, a new boss event, they drop little lore nuggets via YT about once a month, new mission modifiers and environmental stuff, new music, and handful of weapon variants and new weapons (pistol, crusher…etc). This all on top of fixing the game and listening to player feedback (weapon RNG is still iffy). As someone with hundreds of hours into this game, having some new penances are cool for me. They’re something to work for while enjoying the game. It’s not a grind for me, bc I’m not trying to get them before others.
Yeah totally, none of this new penance stuff sounds appealing. i just want to not play the exact same guns and classes for so long doing the same things modifiers to those things are just placeholders for actual new stuff
the emotional rollercoaster that has been darktide's development from the pre-order beta to now has been excruciating at times but I really feel like every update they've put out since the talent tree overhaul has been taking the game in exactly the direction it needs to go. The addition of this new system is really promising and if they make it an ever-evolving reward system like you said I think darktide can really make a comeback! Maybe I'm a lil delusional in thinking so but it never hurts to be hopeful.
The single thing they promised before the launch of the game that I'm still really wanting them to add, is a solo mode. While I love playing the game with others, I shouldn't have to use a mod to play by myself if I want to do missions at my own pace.
Im so sad. This is just like Vermintide 2, the train has already left the station and while there will be an influx of returning players when this releases I don’t see how Darktide will not go down the same road as V2, with a small, loyal but ultimately dwindling playerbase.
Speaking of collecting achievements, im sure everyone knows the true level mod. Unfortunately it shows only the level of your current character, and i got no answer if an account-wide counter could br added. As playing all classes can't get you such a high level as focusing on a single class. So i hope there will be some account -wide counter coming with the patch.
All I wish is for them to totally remove RNG BS aspect of the grind. Let me tinker and craft what I want however I want. Sure, make it under some grindy resource that lets you tweak stats on the weapons or whatever, but let me have some tangible progress towards weapons that I want aka respecting my time. Not RNG BS. V2 had shitty rng system too, but once you got enough powders, you could make whatever you wanted. I got builds that I made years ago that I still play to this day - not because of some stupid progression, but for the gameplay and how they are played differently from each other.
I think just adding all those extra penances will add a lot of things to chase after to the game, which I am all for. Now if only we could just get some new maps and a reason to kill or avoid Daemonhosts.
If you've been out for a year then you've missed the biggest and most important change that was the class overhaul in october or so. Also missed the cool carnival missions and the special assignment boss fight which came out in november and december. I got a bit bored and stopped playing somewhere around february/march last year but since the class overhaul darktide's been pretty much the only game i play. 😅
@Terentios have done that at least, but that's really the only kinda significant thing they've done so far. I don't hate the game, got plenty of time in, but they've not done much atm.

My guess is that they have been a bit too divided between Vermintide & Darktide because of the vermintide's versus mode and the upcoming story mission. Hopefully they shift their focus fully on dt after this spring crunch. But as a fan of both games I'm just happy they both get some love 😁
Wish they would focus on their new game Darktide and slow down support on Vermintide 2. Vermintide's great but I feel like they haven't even given Darktide a chance.
I was really hoping for some new weapons, I like playing ogyrn but there’s just a severe drought of options for his primary’s. I am also not a huge fan of his melee selections either, the shield is fun but seems to be the best pick in every situation. Overall I’m hopeful to see where this goes but it seems this update will miss the mark for me.
jtcLive! Your videos are always such a Joy! I'm breathig deep of the hopium for this update, I really hope it improves player numbers and of course the game. Most of all I want FS to remove the excessive rng of crafting, but any improvement at this point is very welcome. New Penances aren't that important to me but I know it is to others so sure, throw it in there it'll make people happy. An extended progression track is something I look forward to though.
But what's the point in grinding to level 150 though? You don't get anything, not even new title's. At least with this new penance system we get something.
Honesty until they rework the crafting system I’m not reinstalling. It’s why I stopped playing in the first place and the grind was ridiculous. Too much time for so little back to then be at the mercy of RNG. Nah I can’t. Shame because there’s potential there but I don’t understand why they’re not addressing crafting when this has been the biggest issue players have complained about.
I'm more interested in new maps! New enemy is nice but the maps are repetitive and really there feels like only 2-3 unique maps on harder difficulties plus a special operation. On difficulty 3+ there should be at least 8 completly unique maps with better objectives. The objectives and maps feel both lazy and overused reused map content.
New maps / conditions and enemies is what I want. This game already has so many weapons - can’t say I have used that many after 100s of hours. Best game ever - hope it gets more content as the game play its self is amazing
Thats it? I mean those are some HUGE quality of life changes that Im so glad to see FINALLY get added to the game. A win for Fatshark. However I was hoping for new maps at this point. Compared to Helldivers, the Darktide Maps are so linear. Dont get me wrong, the Fatshark maps have always been wonderfully immersive, but replaying the same missions over and over again compared to Helldiver's almost MMO style. Maybe thats just personal taste, but I figured after all this time we'd get at least 1 new map with a few variations of it.
If this penance thing is seasonal/FOMO related I'm never playing the game again. Not just out of "voting with my wallet" or whatever. But these systems literally give me ulcers from the stress they are designed to create in players. If they do it, the game is now a health hazard.
The game is dead for new players, there's nothing new really from when powers over haul update. Game is bit more stable now & is a really good fps, I play it every day. I'm a zealot main, but want to play other characters but means I got to grind out easy games to get better powers 😢. Maybe 1 day I will
This is so disappointing. I check in every couple of months hoping fat shark would have taken its finger out its a**. They had a perfect recipe. All they had to do was keep adding planets and maps with new enemies and lore from 40k. I was expecting us to have orcs and xenos and all sorts by now. All we got was recycled assets. I have no faith for the future of this game because they have dropped the ball at every hurdle and this seems to be the exact same, glacially slow, lazy development cycle that vermintide had. Which was told to me by many people in the community. This seems to be there Modus operandi. Ill not buy another one of their games untill its way into its life cycle and has more conent than 10hrs of repetitive gameplay.

Why would a person want to replay the same levels for 2 years straight with only content fixes not new content? Games still almost in the state it should have been at release? And no crafting fix? Even if they did fix it id feel a little ripped off after grinding hundreds of hours for the 3 god rolls i got so far... Sad they really keep dropping the ball.

One can only wonder how arrowhead brings about weekly updates to hd2, while fatshark has more employees and a much lower frequency.

Early april is not almost halfway. I mean you're right, fatshark are embarrassingly slow at this, but chill out its only been three months

The dreg bomber probably won't do as much damage, but will do corruption, basically a sidegrade like the other scab/dreg variants currently are.

I just want some more fully enclosed helmets. I find it so dumb that we are fighting nurgle cultists and getting a gas mask is such a big deal.

On difficulty 3+ there should be at least 8 completly unique maps with better objectives. The objectives and maps feel both lazy and overused reused map content.

New maps / conditions and enemies is what I want. This game already has so many weapons - can’t say I have used that many after 100s of hours. Best game ever - hope it gets more content as the game play its self is amazing

Thats it? I mean those are some HUGE quality of life changes that Im so glad to see FINALLY get added to the game. A win for Fatshark. However I was hoping for new maps at this point. Compared to Helldivers, the Darktide Maps are so linear. Dont get me wrong, the Fatshark maps have always been wonderfully immersive, but replaying the same missions over and over again compared to Helldiver's almost MMO style. Maybe thats just personal taste, but I figured after all this time we'd get at least 1 new map with a few variations of it.

If this penance thing is seasonal/FOMO related I'm never playing the game again. Not just out of "voting with my wallet" or whatever. But these systems literally give me ulcers from the stress they are designed to create in players. If they do it, the game is now a health hazard.
The game is dead for new players, there's nothing new really from when powers over haul update. Game is bit more stable now & is a really good fps, I play it every day. I'm a zealot main, but want to play other characters but means I got to grind out easy games to get better powers 😢. Maybe 1 day I will
Bots and solo content?
This is so disappointing. I check in every couple of months hoping fat shark would have taken its finger out its a**. They had a perfect recipe. All they had to do was keep adding planets and maps with new enemies and lore from 40k. I was expecting us to have orcs and xenos and all sorts by now. All we got was recycled assets. I have no faith for the future of this game because they have dropped the ball at every hurdle and this seems to be the exact same, glacially slow, lazy development cycle that vermintide had. Which was told to me by many people in the community. This seems to be there Modus operandi. Ill not buy another one of their games untill its way into its life cycle and has more conent than 10hrs of repetitive gameplay.
Yeah... no. Im not playing the same 5 maps over and over to get some useless trinkets that dont effect gameplay whatsoever. Why would a person want to replay the same levels for 2 years straight with only content fixes not new content?

And no crafting fix? Even if they did fix it id feel a little ripped off after grinding hundreds of hours for the 3 god rolls i got so far...

Sounds like a nothing-burger to me. Game lacks gameplay content and crafting is atrocious. When those things would change, I'd care again.
