  • Newer footage of the live steam railroad my dad built that circles his property. Since the old footage, much of the train has been completely rebuilt, and there are a couple completely new cars. My brother is the engineer in all these shots.

I wish you lived next door to me! Loved live steam since I was a little boy. I saw the last unassisted run of a live steamer pulling the Baraboo, WI circus train near Devil's Lake state park. We actually have video of it!

I was at your Dad's one time years ago, when I was working the East Pool out of Greybull. He fired up the engine and after a couple laps around the house, the Piston came loose on the rod, and it came to a screeching halt. That was the end of that day's running. I have been retired for 12 years, and I haven't seen your dad in probably 15 or 16 years. I'm so glad he's still doing this!!! He's one fine machinist for sure!!!!! Lots of fun to work with too!!!! I have a model RR friend in Casper that is modeling the Q back in the steam era, and I have been trying to find out how to get in touch with your dad. This friend has a million questions about the old Q back in the days of steam. I know your dad has a mountain of information that would really help my friend. I don't know how to go about finding your dad. Is there any way you can help me?? Thanks!!!! Love the video by the way!!!!!

    • @biruboto

If your friend in Casper knows where the train house is, he's definitely more than welcome to stop by basically any time. Dad is retired and spends most of his time out in his shop, he'll be out there with the doors open most days, always accepting guests. Let me know if that doesn't work and maybe we can arrange something else.

    • @dmcry600

@@biruboto Thanks so much for your reply!!! I knew your Dad was retired, and I'm glad he is enjoying retirement, as I am as well!!! My friend, nor I know where your Dad lives. I was only there the one time, and can't remember how to get there. I would enjoy seeing your Dad again sometime. I ALWAYS enjoyed his stories and his antics. I was coming into Casper one morning, and your Dad called and asked me what my power was like. My response was It's like an 0-1-0. There was a pause and then a belly laugh from him. He knew what I was referring to. Not real good power.
Your Dad was at my house one time when he was working the Casper/Greybull Pool, and I had a yard built in HO, and we could kick cars. He thought that was the coolest thing he had ever seen. He might or might not remember that.
If there is some way to let me know how my friend can find your Dad, without telling everyone in the world, I would really like my friend to meet your Dad. I'm sure your Dad still has a fantastic memory of the "Q" and of course steam. And when I come to Casper, hopefully next month, I would love to stop in and see your Dad again. Tell him I say HI!!! Thanks again!!!!

Thanks for the video. You did a great job of building 3007. How long did it take? I have been around railroading all my life. My father was a third generation engineer and I was a forth generation engineer. I hired out on the Texas and Pacific shortly after my father retired from the T&P. I retired from the UP, through two mergers, in New Orleans in 2000. I got involved with LASTA near New Orleans shortly after I retired and I am their COO. We have SPX-3007’s big brother in standard gauge. SPX-745, a Mikado 2-8-2, was built in the SP Algiers shops, across the Mississippi River from New Orleans, in 1921. One of 11 built there and she is the only surviving Louisiana built standard gauge steam locomotive in existence. She was rebuilt to FRA standards between 2000 and 2004 and operated around Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri until April 2019. She is now undergoing her 1472 day / 15 year inspection / rebuild. We were hoping to have her fired back up for her 100th birthday in February 2021, but CV19 has probably delayed that. But I think we will throw her a big birthday bash at our yard in Jefferson, LA any way. If interested there are several videos of her here on You Tube running in our yard and out on the main lines of several class ones, regional, and short line railroads. Search SPX-745 to find them.

YES! I've been waiting for a new video of this Engine and Railroad for so long! That SP Atlantic is gorgeous and she runs as good as she looks! It appears that she's 7.5" gauge but closer to the 2.5" scale mark, which I like because everything is a bit bigger, more stable and less fragile! I Love the No Diesels Sign in the Shop! Your father's commentary is very wise and he's a very knowledgeable man! I'd love to visit this railroad someday and meet him. How old is the Engine? Depends on whether it's a standard gauge or narrow gauge model. Standard gauge models are 1.5" or 1.6" to the foot, depending on whether the model was built to gauge standards or with a focus on scale accuracy. Narrow Gauge models tend to be 2.5" or even 3.5" to the foot depending on what gauge the full-size version is built for.
