Hi, I bought a RENAULT MODUS PRIVILEGE last year 2008 it was the most lovely car ive had double sunroof scenic view 5 seats 5 door absolutely perfect has been looked after. Im disabled and was able to get an automatic.
The 1.6 16V is a great car, 111 BHP, I have a petrol automatic with a massive panoramic roof. The car is so fast (and I own a 94 2wd Lamborghini Diablo so I know fast), you can switch it to semi automatic, and because of its lightweight is takes off like a bullet, you can leave most cars standing, the funny thing is this acceleration is only super fast for about 150 200 metres by then the sports car trying to race you will pass you, but the beautiful thing is that in our world of traffic and speed cameras, they never get the chance, so you will always 'win' your race as by the time they can pass you they will have to slow down because you will have already reached traffic or a speed camera, it's great fun, my little white renault once beat a Bentley GTC. The gear change selector broke so we had to send it in to be fixed, it took a long time, within that time they supplied us with three different hire vehicles, all of them were shite in comparison, the modus is 2007, but the quality, feel, sound insulation were incomparable to the tinny cheap noisy, pathetic 2018 cars they supplied us, and they were top of the range. I think the quality of cars has deceased, I think they churn them out now quickly and cheaply, the 16v renault Modus is honestly a luxury small car. The suspension is beautiful, the panoramic roof is huge, just the feel it's like a small rolls royce in comparison to the tin cans they are producing now. Also please go ahead try and find a 111 bhp small MPV, go and have a look there is nothing. I too had to change a bulb, this was £110 it was infuriating as renault intentionally made it difficult so as to be able to extort money from you, so that is a very ugly aspect of Renault. Apart from that the Modus is amazing, also it is huge inside, and tiny on the outside, wing mirrors fold in electrically too, awesome car. The one we have is my wifes I am thinking of getting another, there is one I saw 2006 20K miles, 16V 111 BHP auto (inc semi) and pano roof @ £2600 :-O I might get it, add some retro cromodora alloy wheels and a new stainless exhaust, maybe chip it, if I can get 160 170 bhp it will be a small agile bullet and I can keep embarrassing people in new sports cars.
Agreed this car is a wolf in sheeps clothing gets a lot of criticism for looks from those who have not got a clue I owned two of them 54 and 08 reg the 54 reg was 1400 engine sometimes I felt I was sitting in a sport coupe touching gas pedal would let of a deep growl from the engine and that car could shift very racy feel unusual front lights and tall cabin but boy that engine when tuned could fly.
Other than the inconvenience of changing headlights, I'd recommend the Modus as a cheap to run runabout. IMO 1.4 is the way to go, cheaper on fuel and not a huge decrease in power. Plus no dephaser issues like the K4M.
Have had two modus 54 reg 1400 and 08 1200tc old peoples car was a regular comment, but looks is decieving feels quite sporty to drive nice gearbox and deep throb on the 1400 engine gave it a lot of power and 1200 with turbo very effective around town.
@@bestgameplay831 apparently they have an inherent problem with the belt or something. needs to be replaced often. also the electronics are not reliable. but its just luck apparently. thats what my local garage owner told me.
@@Buurbachi1 eh ig I was doubting between this and a c1 but since the Citroen c1 is way cheaper in gas, insurance ,tax and it self second hand I bought that since it's my first car (they are super reliable btw)
Can acutally tell you a little about the Modus. It's acutally a really good car. Gasoline engines are all fine as long as you stay away from the 1.2TCe unit. The diesels are fine as well EGR-Valve was said but again that most likely happens if you have a diesel that was driven mainly in the city. The electronics in Renaults around the early to mid 2000's are a little niggly that's right. Power windows, the filler cap look motor is also a problem if that one wasn't changed. Other than that it's just that you have to change the timing belt when needed don't joke around with the interval when you should be fine. The last thing to look out for are broken springs, Clios II and Twingos I have the same problem. Overall it's an ok microvan, not as good as the Ford Fusion but for me it takes second place in this segment ;)
@@chriskonte1909 What's wrong with the 1.2 TCe engine? I'm asking because I'm looking to buy a Modus and that's the engine all of the reviews tell you to go for.
Good car my mechanic changes front bulb in couple of mins,in the past an issue not on updated car, turbo on 1200tc gives it a very fast take off sport coupe feel to unusual look mini people carrier.
So I had one 1.6L petrol between 2009 and 2015, so 6 years. I had the pre-facelift version wich was very ugly IMHO, I was almost ashamed during my first time to drive it. Anyway what where the problems? Well the elctric windows broke and fell down, after a quick fix it would cost 1500€ to fix them so for the last three years I could never pull down my front windows, very nice dyring the summer. My bulbs in the front broke that many times that I became an expert at taking off the bumper, approxametly every 3 months a bulb broke. So I had to go in the middle of winter and lie on the ground for 20 minutes and fix my bulbs many times. Also the sparkplugs in the engine died about every 6 months. The good thing was that it was pretty quick and quite fun to drive for it's size and look... but it was a major headache for many years of my life. None of my friends ever wanted to buy a Renault after this.
A friend's dad had a Renault Laguna, dated around 2005. When I asked him how reliable it was, he replied; "Every electric bit that could break down, did eventually break down". If you have your own workshop, it's fine, they're fun to drive, much better than German or Japanese cars and they're usually better equipped than those two. But most people don't have their own workshop...
You just had some bad luck I have owned two of them 54 reg the electric steering went on it had it repaired glad I did went on to be great reliable car,now on second one 08 1200tc feels sporty,no one likes the look of them but I know different.
Looks Like a good upgrade on a clio, if you need more space. Electronics are not difficult for me to fix so I am considering buying one. (Renault Clip dealer level diagnostics)
Voorlampje vervangen? Trek maar een avondje uit! Kortom; NOOIT KOPEN!!!
@@ZosZ4 Except the (Grand) Modus is actually really reliable. Most Renault cars are now reliable since the mid-2000s (excluding the Clio 2 which was already a reliable car).
