    I really love both, BR for realism, SCR for mass multiplayer and map size

  • @TheCup51
    @TheCup51 13 дней назад +122

    Well, honestly I love both SCR and BR for different reasons. SCR for its multiplayer, map sizes, amount of trains/operators, and different roles (DS/GD/SG), which BR probably won't have all (as Ollie stated: he is not planning on doing training/applications for any position in the game, not considering the dev team) and how the map is stylized. While in BR for an ever more detailed map, realistic driving systems, realistic trains, interaction with the community (suggestions for example), routes which are done much better than SCR's, and much more importantly: a fresh start, which means they can change/add/remove, and do anything they'd like because the game is fairly new.

      I agree, I think both games have their pros and cons and I feel they're both made to appeal to slightly different audiences. Which one people decide to play mainly comes down to what they're wanting to get out of it.

    • @TheCup51
      @TheCup51 13 дней назад +8

      @Draavo Yeah, and considering this, I think that BR is not as much of a threat. It's rather just another game with a similar idea, but a different approach, and as you stated, just another option for players to choose between more casual gameplay or realistic.

    Putting this simply, I don't think they are in competition.
    SCR seems to be mainly focused on being accessible to the wider Roblox audience who are less fussed about hyperrealism, whereas British Railway seems to be targeted more towards railway enthusiasts. I think it is this reason why SCR hasn't actually suffered any form of loss by the presence of BR. The two games can coexist perfectly fine without competition, and therefore be successful in their own right.
    That being said, I do love British Railway, the experience of playing the game is a breath of fresh air compared to every other railway game on the platform, and I hope its success sets a precedent for more railway games to pop up and thrive, but I also don't believe that this makes BR a 'threat' to SCR.
    There are MANY things I criticize for SCR, their supervisor/training system is not fit for purpose, their rules are unnecessarily harsh, and I've not had the greatest of experiences with a fair few of the former higher-ups of the game (even if some of that was from my own faults). And in the grand scheme of things, blocky rails and stationary level crossing barriers really don't matter that much to me. That being said, I also criticize a lot of things about BR (particularly the way that their staff and developers view SCR, the signaling issues and the point awarding system)

    • @dominustaker1651
      @dominustaker1651 12 дней назад

      It's not just BR's development team that thinks SCRs devs are a bit off. I've seen the same said for GCR. The issue with their team is the fact that they can't really communicate to the community alot. Take the longer trains controversy. Barely any form of communication on whether or not it would be a gamepass really made people upset, as many still held out hope that the 390 would be free. Another reason comes down to their insanely childish attitude when it comes to genuine community concerns and criticisms. Going back to SCR for a moment with the longer trains controversy, many of the devs shot down community concerns, and played off concerns surrounding the gamepass. As well as this, they also decided to criticise BR's player count, something of which during this time of extreme controversy was unexpected and needed.
      So whilst it is safe to say BRs dev team doesn't quite like SCR, it's also safe to say that SCR's dev team really need to work on community response.
      A solution to this would be to simply bring back the Q and A sessions. They used to do these a few years ago, but they appeared to have died out and personally speaking, I think they would be able to highlight a lot of the communities questions.
      Now, I'm not saying SCR is a bad game by any means. I've played it for the past 5 years, and I've seen the same issue occur a lot more, especially in recent times, where the communities questions to Directors and Product developers are shot down or simply ignored.
      I agree with you for the most part, but I thought it would be good to highlight so reasons as to why this distain for the SCR development team is prevalent in such games.

    • @RealMagmaDash
      @RealMagmaDash 12 дней назад +2

      @dominustaker1651 SCR's team is also incredibly secretive for little to no reason. More often than not when asking supervisors+ questions related to internal workings and operation in SCR (just general things out of curiosity or when forming an opinion on something), I've been told that they can't tell me or it's not for public knowledge. Really baffles me why they would decide to hide so much information about a train game on Roblox, and it's even suspicious however I won't go down that rabbithole in a RUclips comment section. It goes hand in hand with the poor communication and not much resonance with their community.

    I think something BR objectively did better was the point system. SCR's "5 per stop" doesn't really support faster operators like Express. Where as BR, while yes still does have optimal operators, it is not really an issue because you still get around the same amount per minute.

  • @RBMapleLeaf
    @RBMapleLeaf 12 дней назад +10

    As a former long time player on SCR who is currently at a GD rank since if I'm not mistaken V1.7 (I don't fully recall when I became a GD all I know it was a very long time ago) and a long time driver on SCR. I've always felt the controls generally felt arcadey and just not to my liking. Like I felt it was unrealistic to fly into stations at 75 kph (45 mph in imperial terms) and stop on the dime. Now I've not played the new driving system in SCR but witnessed my brother play it. It still is a far cry compared to BR but if anything I can understand what they were trying to do.
    Ever since BR came out at the start of 2023. I've been there since the start. Although I wasn't there for V1.0 and joined around the time of V1.1 I've been there since BR's 1st or 2nd week. The 14th of January, 2023 if my memory serves to be of any help to me 😅
    But yeah the driving experience is surreal and it definitely feels more like my driving style and realism. Like in trains such as the Class 90 and Loco haul consists I tend to find them you need to brake almost a mile from the station if you're travelling down the Cuffley Mainline particularly the section between Leaton to Norrington.
    What I love in each game
    SCR: I think the training program from my experience and theory is fine and brings in people, the amount of content in game, the signal system is generally I don't find trouble.
    BR: It's the game you want to go to for a surreal experience, better scenery and although there are substantially less trains in BR compared to SCR they are built to a high standard.
    But mind you BR has done everything it has done in just over 2 years which isn't an easy feat compared to SCR which has been around for nearly 8 years. There's a 6 year gap between both games so in some ways I feel like it's unfair to compare both games in some areas but definitely I would generally say I enjoyed my experience in BR than my time in SCR

    I think SCR is better in many ways when it comes to gameplay. Especially when it comes to the driving system. I thinks its much easier to understand and its easier to control (however the change from the old system to the new one was a hard time for all of us). When it comes to the map id agree that BR looks better. A developer from SCR once said that the focus on the SCR builds is to sepreate the game from others. I understand this point but I still think that some thing are allowed to change though. But the main thing why Inthink SCR is better in general is the fact that it runs on poor devices smoothly (more or less). You cant say that about BR at all. In addition to that i think SCR has one of the best desinged UIs on the platform not because it looks good (I don't like the look tbh) but because its easy to understand and to use, the Ui-instances are not too small or too big. You are not overwhelmed with 6 buttons in the start menu like in BR. Instead you have 3 and everone exactly understands where to start the game. I think BR has is on a good way to become better but for now they arent. Long story short message: I like both games but BR is more complex and realistic while SCR is more user-friendly.

    BR: More realistic, complex gameplay mechanics and driving experience for people who want a more challenging and realistic feeling with good models, extra features and a big map to explore and enjoy.

    @TransportwithDan 13 дней назад +6

    For me BR would be perfect if it wasn't for the signalling, coming into Leaton on the fast lines from Norrington the signal is usually red, however if you start slowing down on full brake from the first AWS warning for the double yellow you still wouldn't stop in time for the red.

  • @spottymaxy1628
    @spottymaxy1628 13 дней назад +18

    11:22 the signaling system is (apparently) currently being worked on. It should improve the current signalling with the addition of automaticly assigned priorities.
    It's quite unfair to hold this as a plus for SCR and a flaw for BR when they have the same issue as well. Areas such as Westercoast viaduct have too many clustered signal blocks that give too little time to brake for red signals.

Personally, I would've chosen a different title as "SCR's BIGGEST Competitor" makes it seem like a video on the release of BR, and the video doesn't revolve around that. Something along the lines of "Does BR beat SCR in 2025? - A Comparison" would've been better, in my opinion. Overall I'd rate it 8/10, apart from the afformentioned title and some small mistakes it was high quality and interesting. Nice to see you making content again.

In retrospect SCR is not perfect, but its generally gotten better and they clearing up lots of annoying glitches. British Railways is simply the next step in train simulator evolution. The realistic nature makes it my personal favorite. Here to, in the last couple of weeks, improvements were made at Avonhill with all the switching going into that terminal. Trains no longer collide as frequently, which is annoying. It seem, lots of time, now you will wait for a clear signal before departure if another train is entering. On a personal note, they need to get rid of ghosting. You dont lose points for being late, but you lose them for speeding.

    BR is good because of the extreme realism that you don't expect from a Roblox train game.
    SCR is good because there are more options for players to choose from. More trains, more routes, more stations, more everything!

    You guys are wrong about signalling. BR signalling is automatic, meaning it detects any train beyond 100 meter. But the signalling problems you said is actually your data or weak PC. Certain parts of SCR is one of the disaster. Signalling is fun for SCR fans. Although, it is very confusing and hard, especially those playing with signalling. Also, weekly store is always weird considering British Railway them self knows that every store only needs coins. The only way in BR getting coins is grind or buy the coins. However, SCR don't have stores considering they are the only game with points. The hardest thing to get in SCR is trains and operators as well as points. Some longer railway routes in SCR are one of the worst one. Earning those points is a massive job. It could take a year just to get everything where as BR takes months just unlocking everything. SCR is pointless...

      @arieldominik 10 дней назад +1

      • I didn't repeat everything Draavo said - I wrote my own script for the video, and I elaborated on things that he briefly mentioned earlier in the video
      • The only reason why I would sound petty is because I was a little sick when I recorded the script, so my voice sounded unusual. I was not aiming to sound biased - I was stating what SCR does better than BR, and what BR does better than SCR, which is the aim of the entire video
      • It's not just quality. If you fully watched and understood the video, we talked about much more than quality; the number of trains, the ability to dispatch and signal, the great station designs, the signalling; these are all reasons why some people would choose SCR over BR, but yes, you are right in saying that in general BR does have better quality trains
      • I had to change my script a few times because it ended up sounding too biased towards BR; I am introduced in the video as a long-term player and contributor to BR, which is why I felt inclined to make a fair comparison to not sound like I'm glazing BR
      • Draavo is a long-term SCR player, I am a long-term BR player, we both have different opinions and views, so we decided to come together and talk about all the pros and cons on both games. You cannot really say that you "don't understand how this is even a conversation" when if you look at the comments, they are very divided between SCR and BR, so the whole point of this video is to start a topic of conversation about the two games, and how they differ

    BR is way better in terms of realism in most aspects, SCR has better realism in terms of operations though, like mentioned the signalling is very good and there are dispatchers and guards like BR though the guards in SCR are less realistic than the one in BR, I think its a good idea for players to have to do trainings to unlock roles though SCR should be more strict since you need to mess up quite a bit in order to be demoted which leads to situations where you report a user and 2 days later you see them in game doing the same thing you reported them for, SCR has terrible realism because they are focused on other aspects, not sure which aspects though as their dev team seems quite lazy as not many new features have came out while BR has lots of realism, a smaller dev team but still seems like it has had way more content added in the same time

    Can we stop directly comparing an arcade style game to a realistic style game?
    My thoughts:
    tl;dr - Neither of them are directly "better than the other", they're both good in their own way.
    I really like both games, I really enjoy the realism of British Railway and I enjoy the more simpler style of Stepford County Railway.
    Personally, BR quickly gets dull, especially with the TTS announcements, the repeated monotone track joint sounds and occasionally i get tired of the dull coloring.
    SCR sometimes also gets boring, I especially get tired of the sounds and get annoyed with the sound glitch that happens with door sounds, whistles, horns, and onboard announcements.
    Driving in SCR isn't worse than BR, but it's not better either. I don't mind the 2.0 driving system in SCR.
    I also one time experienced in BR where every single train around me was either broken in pieces or completely still on the track with the train sound still happening, even though I had smooth gameplay for myself with no issues, I've never had this problem with SCR, even on a big server.
    The gamepass in SCR does feel like a "Woah seriously?" moment. I was a bit surprised myself, but it's fine, really. The entire situation the gamepass caused feels like a massive overreaction over such a little thing. The game has worked perfectly fine without the gamepass and in no way should the existence of a gamepass change that. Playing the game now with the gamepass released, it's the exact same, nothing has changed, the only difference is the occasional long train, the game is just as playable as before.
    The statement on the gamepass from the Operations Director is also ignored in this video in favor of just saying "it's so the devs can get more money".
    The BR devs giving out a Robux gift card after the SCR gamepass released is fine, but immediately following that gift card announcement with the suggestion of using it to "get yourself some longer trains" was NOT needed. It's funny, but seriously?
    The recent "weekly item" feature in BR just feels like a feature they added to keep players playing, these rare or unique liveries are not cheap either. These things, as far as I've seen, are as expensive as the train itself! They aren't of a similar price of other liveries in game, they're not even just double the average livery price. I get that they are oh so rare! and oh so unique! but the price tag on them still makes it feel like a feature that is meant to keep players playing or to get players to purchase points. But that's just what I think.
    Those were my loser thoughts

      That's not what I meant. What I meant was that, for example, you cannot terminate at intermediate stations unless you buy a separate route to terminate there, even though both routes serve exactly the same stations. In BR, you can buy an area "pack", meaning you unlock all possible routes to that area from anywhere in the map that you currently own.
