If you want realistic damage model, go download BeamNG and stay the fuck away from this game. Dirt Rally is for guys who like driving cars and not destroying them.

All of you. This is the most realistic game of all. I tried all rally games and this is the best. Damage? Yes damage in vidogames are bad but Dirt rally has new update with more realistic damages.

but this game doesnt give me that speed feeling like you can compare go watch real rally from 1st person and this game in real one you can see that everything happens so fast and in game speed shows me 140km/h but it looks like im going 80 or so when car gets crashed and flips it moves like in space i mean very slowly and that should be fixed people should feel the real speed and experience it

This fucking series is out for 20 years and they still haven't figured out how to create realistic crashes
despite how hard the game is using the xbox controller, its still fun for being really hard to race.
People complaining about crash graphics in an almost hardcore rally simulator perhaps shouldn't play it. This is not a game where you should be looking at crashes.

Wow!! If you freeze the vid at 0:08 the focus clearly hits an invisible wall. It was nowhere near colliding with the stack of logs there. Lame!! The crash physics definitely need more work and not enough parts are falling off of the vehicles.
+sohchx Look closer, it never was suppose to hit the pile of logs. It hits other debris before the logs.

another race game that doesn't give enough attention to the visual damage of the cars. Also another race game that doesn't give attention to the exhaust flames. Also another race game that doesn't give attention to the fans arround the track. In a few words this is also not the perfect next gen race game. If you see the graphics from dirt 3 on the playstation 3, they look more natural then this graphics. I cant believe it...
Its true that it doesn't have the best damage physics but you need to know that the cars are licensed cars and manufacturers don't like to have damage on their cars so thats why most games don't have a good damage system
+Feyenoord Till i die No one has said this is the perfect next gen race game... And you don't even see the exhaust whilst driving, and generally graphics don't matter much at all in a race sim that DiRT Rally is, as long as they have the track detail, that's enough.

Less important than actual physics of the game. Which is where majority of their time making this game went. sure, Dirt 3 may have looked better. krazyhippy it is.. i am a big fan of motorsport and i just need a perfect race game. I will buy this one but i was expecting more of this game. How difficult it would be for the producers to create a perfect looking backfire flame, everytime you see it you will think wow the did everything to make the fans happy

In this game damage looks good, it is realistic game of course. But still it lacks that feel of plasticity, weight feeling when car is dropping. Now it looks like empty idk plastic car that has no weight and can't be damaged as in real life. Of course games improving very fast and I believe we will see a lot of realistic games in 5 or 10 years that we will just won't be able to see difference between real life and games. p.s I didn't played this Dirt rally yet so who cares about my opinion.

The damage model is incredibly underwhelming. XPand Rally, a little known game circa 2004 has tons better damage both cosmetic and simulated than this.

Dirt rally isnt anything like real world rally driving. Tarmac physics is shocking and on loose surfaces the 4WD cars behave like theyre weightless. Thats why you have to use the handbrake so much to induce oversteer, rather than braking into the bends with the foot brake to induce oversteer like real world rally drivers do. I doubt you know anything about SLRE since it was horribly broken on the pc. Dirt rally allows you to simply stamp on the brake and stand on the throttle. No progressive input required. Almost impossible to spin out. It may be fun, but it isnt simulative of real world rally driving. Thats my opinion anyway, and ive uploaded videos to try and back up what i say. In SLRE cars behave like heavy objects, and braking into bends to shift weight forward and induce oversteer feels spot on.

No its not. Watch some onboard rally videos with foot cam, or listen to when the driver is on and off throttle and watch for foot-braking to induce oversteer into bends. Rally drivers induce the oversteer with left foot braking into the bends, on loose surface stages. And believe me that is simulated far more effectively and accurately in SLRE. Most people prefer Dirt because it looks and sounds great, but the physics are not realistic. Theyre pretty shit to be fare. The fact that you need the handbrake so much, even on faster bends proves that weight shifting is garbage in Dirt rally. 90 percent of pc players can't get SLRE to run well enough on pc anyway. It was badly ported over to pc and it had fucked up steering optimization on pc.
Dirt is hard because of the force feedback is pure garbage and because if you so much as run over a 3 inch high mud patch or a twig, the car flies up into orbit.
Its not simulation. The cars are lighter than air. Its not realistic. I like it. I play it. I play SLRE too. And SLRE is a more accurate to real world rally driving. Both games have faults. But SLRE is more sim thabn Dirt. Try it. Stick with it, and upload some videos. Most people chat shit about SLRE yet dont, or can't even play it.

Cosmetic damage not being realistic is the least of this games worries. The physics are not realistic in my view, so who cares about the cosmetic damage.
Its got atrociously bad force feedback and the cars behave as though theyre totally weightless. Weight transitioning is almost none existent, making it extremely difficult to judge or predict what the car will do and how it will react. Its only a slight step up from Codemasters other arcade rally games, physics wise. It doesn't feel or play in a natural way. Crashing out on the first bend even when knowing a stage very well is not uncommon in Dirt Rally. Simcade in my view. Real rally driving is about manipulating the weight of the car. Braking to shift weight forward to oversteer through corners. That action is terribly simulated in this game. Because the cars behave like theyre lighter than air.

Guys, the makers don't really choose for the damage model. The car industry doesn't want to let their cars get totally rekt in videogames. Because they think that people will think that the cars in real life will be unsave.. kinda weird but thats how it is sadly.

+Plug And Play lol no, almost all race games have it. Just look at project cars, grand turismo, forza etc. It doesn't matter if it is a racecar or not. As long as there is a badge on it from a real life car manufacturer, the car won't get damaged too heavily.
