This is correct and was an error in our opener. Thanks for pointing it out! We meant to say that various parts of Africa, not South Africa, have some of the harshest LGBTQ+ laws in the entire world.
Wow, such an amazing and moving conversation. The way David lives out and talks about the beauty of sacrifice is so inspiring. Thank you so much for your content.
I'm 50 minutes into this video, and I'm genuinely moved by the dialog between these guys. Thank you for sharing their stories and creating this space for loving and compassionate conversations ❤️
Grateful for the honesty and humility and vulnerability expressed by each of these three men -- their willingness to lean into this conversation is so wonderful and rare.
A big thank you to the four of you and also the team behind scenes for bringing such inspirational and needed conversation to the table. God bless you all.
How I love these conversations and how much nuance is allowed in this podcast. Honestly as an SSA individual I don’t use the label gay but I really do appreciate all these people‘s perspectives as a Christian man who does also live a celebrate lifestyle this is something that I really resonate with and appreciate and this conversation was really needed.!!!❤
Great thoughts and stories. I do have a problem with the one dude’s definition of “gay rights” being “liberation” and “freedom from oppression”. As far as I know there will always be opposition to anything but there’s always gonna be people out there who hate ya. If you try to eliminate opposition, you end up becoming the oppressor to be successful at that. To actually remove oppression without becoming the oppressor, all you can do is pray for them and love and respect them till they don’t want to oppress.
Thank you so much for sharing this conversation and giving it the time and space it needed to breathe life into these complex topics. So refreshing to find people who hold different beliefs being able to listen to and support each other. 🙏
I would like to know where you get your information about being gay in South Africa is punishable by death. Gay marriage is legal here. Which parts of South Africa are you referring to
South Africa's constitution is one of the best in the world. It recognises and includes *all* people, across all identity lines. Please add a pinned comment under this video reflecting your mistake made in the opener. It's destructive to leave errors like this publicly uncorrected because perceptions of African countries are already tarnished and distorted enough. Thanks!
Hey there! We replied to this on another comment, and acknowledged this was an error. We meant to say that various parts of Africa, not South Africa, have some of the harshest LGBTQ+ laws in the entire world.
@@MightyPursuit That's not enough. Please leave a pinned comment to correct this as was requested. South Africa was amongst the first country in the world to give equality and legalise gay marriage. Your mistake is very damaging.
“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what good will it do a person if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a person give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:25-26 Jesus called it the narrow way. Both the radical liberal left nor the radical conservative right is the narrow way. It’s funny that both radical left radical right is actually two sides of the very same coin. Both want all the rights all the authority all the power all the freedom. In the narrow way of Christ God calls us to give up our idols to not always be comfortable or be in power to love our enemies to love our neighbor as ourselves do you know how hard that is?! Lol. But it’s the only true way to live that’s where we meet the true living Gods presence . As Toni Morrison said when you encounter the presence of God you know that you know that’s their truly is a God. And we may disagree Toni, and I agree with David he’s worth it all to give up these certain desires to live within his created design o Gloria a ti Jesus we love you we worship you Jesus
It took a lot of evangelicals to convince me that there are reasons people think the Bible is not ok with homosexuality. And I am not in line with David B. But I wish him all the best and pray for his fortitude if for no other reason than to make Rosario Butterworth be shamed for her meanspirited and I believe deceitful claim to be engaged in the self same witness which for her is all about telling cruel Christians that they are doing good, (that was Catty my bad).
Surprise the guy from glad while getting that the oppression gay people encounter in our society is felt on so many levels and in so many settings but is unable to see that transition and especially medicalized transition being extended to include so many younger people reflects systematic anti gay violence and dehumanization expressed industrially..
Or if Christians said we are made in God's imagine we would love our selves more and not be promiscuous by getting the quantity of men to loves us which was wrong and didn't help the Aides crisis Plus gay churches could have helped by helping gay men
I think that the issues that non hetero people face, from the church and hetero people, is caused by extreme differences in both groups. Meaning, hetero people have a way of life. Non hetero people have a way of life. And both sides have members who push the idea that their way is better. Which causes disagreements, resulting in a sort of I'm better than you, your way of life is inferior, etc, and bad behavior ensues.

Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.”
@ God made man and woman for a reason. Going against his design is prideful and selfish. Same as any sin we glorify. It’s all pride thinking we know better than God.
@ God gave us free will. Are you saying that God also made pedophiles so they should be allowed to act on their desire? We all have our own sins we struggle against. You can choose to wilfully live in sin which will bring death. or live for the life giver, Jesus
That's like saying "Gluttonous Christian" is oxymoron, or "Ex-Adultarer Christian" is Oxymoron. It is not our orientation away from Christ that is the issue (the inclination we all have to sin, turn away, serve self) but our actions. If a Gay (orientation) is turned more toward Christ than their sexuality, and is living pure of heart and action...
If you listen to the first 10 minutes, he shares that what he means by that is that he is same sex attracted, but has committed his life to celibacy due to his faith convictions

In South Africa you are not executed for being gay! It has the most liberal and open Constitution on the continent!

Matthew & the Mighty Pursuit crew, thank you for your bravery! This pod is a modern-day letter to the American Church today - bravo.
This conversation is such a treasure. Thank you for your bravery. This is such a blessing. Will definitely be sharing this wealth.

I wish Beckett Cook was included.
However,if men of the 1980 were told.God loves you men would not continue with our self hatred.Right.
That was gay
Where is the atheist ???? Or is it a gay believer round table ?
I felt like it was quite obvious 😅

If u are gay dont ask others to become like you. Then u'll be respected n nobody shall judge ur choice but God.
If you are straight, don’t ask those who identify as LGBTQ+ to become like you.
Living in wilful, unrepentant sin is the definition of being an enemy of God.
How are we called to relate to the “enemies?”
