    I just picked my last canalope... Fall is kicking in hard I picked six Mellon's that didn't Ripen, they were the size of tennis balls. I cut one open and tasted it and guess what? They taste like a sweet cucumber. I'll be adding these to my salad's from here on out.

      That's so cool! I'm actually obsessed with growing cucumber melons (C. Melo) which are exactly what you experienced and there are loads of heirloom varieties from southern Italy and India to choose from. Check out cucumbershop.com

    "I don't know where to put it, I'm stuck in the cantaloupe patch." Funny gardener problems. I am only growing cantaloupe for the first time this summer, but I've been there with flower harvesting, amd other vegetables. Thank you for this content.

    Very informative vid. I suspect one of my cantaloupe plants sudden dry out death due to diseases. Is the fruit safe to be consumed?

      Thank you! You may not know if the fruit is good until you cut it open, but if it is undamaged, firm and smells good then it is likely ok.

    I'm going to start me some this summer. How do you preserve your cantaloupe to keep them longer

    • @newgardenroad
      @newgardenroad  2 месяца назад

      Harvesting early in the day is best and then I keep them in the fridge because my little Texas house isn't very cool in the summer. When I have an abundance I will cut it into chunks and freeze it. I have to admit I love it fresh from the garden when it's still warm 😅

    So how long from the time they were fertilized to the time they're ready? Ballpark?

    • @newgardenroad
      @newgardenroad  2 года назад +1

      I fertilize them throughout their growth, and they’re generally ready in about 79-90 days from direct sowing.

      @@newgardenroad the reason I asked how long is because I hardened of my Cantaloupe, and planted in raised bed on April 24th. Which put my plant at 70 days on July 2nd. It is the size of a small child's Bowling Ball, but has been for maybe 2 wks? I'm wondering why it's growing has seemed to be stunted? There are 2 other fruits on the same Plant, one a small "Elongated" type golf ball, and the other a larger size baseball, but still stunted growth? I'm feeding it Freshwater Aquarium water from my fish tank every 2 weeks. Any suggestions....Or is it just a matter of patience at this point?

      I can't say that I have. Once we get steadily over 105 they all seem to struggle.
