  • well friends, you might be as surprised to hear this as i am to say it.
while music will continue to be my main creative work, i have officially taken a position at gracepointe church as director of content & curation.
i’m thrilled to be working alongside my great friend josh scott & the incredible staff there to help in their mission of building a community where even in doubt & unbelief, in all of our integrated complexity, everyone belongs.
i’ve always followed coordinates as i found them and trusted my gut. these are some strange & wondrous coordinates, indeed. i can’t wait to see where they lead.

He’s an atheist yet took a position in a church? Makes me wonder what kind of a church this is because this guy is not a believer in Christ.

@@aaronwright7111 yeah, that’s not what that lyric is about. and, it’s a church for two reasons. the first is because it declares itself so.
second, because unlike other so-called ‘churches’, our community is in almost constant trouble with self-righteous, religious types for radically loving, welcoming, and celebrating people who are typically marginalized and rejected. in other words, the same exact kinda trouble jesus was almost always in.

@@derekwebb A Church is a place for born again believers to gather and worship God and be fed wit the word of God, the Church is the body of believers in Jesus Christ, those who have been born again. Anything else is just a deception,. You either believe in the God of scripture and you put your trust in the work of Jesus on the cross or you dont. We cannot have it both ways. Submit to God or don't, but don't try and have a church when its not.
We are not to create our won ideas of God and salvation, that's unbiblical and a waste of time to be honest.

@@BloodBoughtMinistries wow, bud. you clearly have no concept of church history. your definition of "church" fits a very specific template unique to modern evangelicalism. blue jeans have been in the mainstream longer than the term "born again." what, you think early Christian worshipers were gathering in buildings and listening to a pastor speak for 45 minutes then ending with a call to salvation?
it's also comical that you say church is strictly for "born again believers" which means that skeptics and (by default) most non-evangelicals are unwelcome. your ignorance, arrogance, and simplistic rhetoric is a significant factor in the slow death of the American church. i'm sure Jesus really appreciates that, man. "guns, God, and Trump," am i right?

i never declared myself anything, actually. but i'm permanently uncertain about invisible (like god) and unknowable (like the future) things, as are most of the folks at gracepointe. that's what makes it such an interesting community.

i get what you’re trying to do, the semantic snare you’re trying to catch me in. i receive it as an expression of care and have no further response.
in the future, i would invite you to consider not calling someone’s opinion a “virus that’s invaded your mind”, as it’s neither winsome nor persuasive. that is unless you’re intentionally trolling or antagonizing, which is just a rhetorical waste of everyone’s time.
